Let's talk about Huggle

As Wikipedia's number 1 Huggle user, and being a developer, have you ever looked at the source code? I have. As a developer myself, I have found trying to get a mac development environment up and running very frustrating, and as yet I have not been successful. The main reason, the use of Qt. (I had never heard of it before) So I downloaded the latest version (5.7), but I could not get the libraries to link when using Xcode. I then used the Qt IDE, which enabled me to link the libraries, but I couldn't get one of them to link. After some researching I discovered (to my horror), that Huggle was using a deprecated version of Qt (version 4.8)(Well I think it is, I may be wrong). Probably when Qt changed their API it was just too difficult to update. So, this is what I would like to propose, or wish. What I would like to see is a fully native Mac version of a reverse engineered Huggle, written entirely with Swift. Crazy eh. What I think would be great is if there was some sort of community project to achieve this, headed up by the best Swift developers that Wikipedia can muster. The end result, a project that you can download, double click the Xcode project file, and bang, you are locked and loaded. There just seems to be nothing out there to help a newbie to get a Huggle project up and running. I would really appreciate your input, ideas, suggestions. (If YOU have got it running I would really like to know how you did it, or if there is someone lurking out there reading this, come to my talk page.) Many thanks. David.moreno72 - This is a response to acknowledge your message. I've been meaning to get back to you, but have been busy or just tired lately. But yes, we should talk. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:08, 30 July 2016 (UTC)
Hi David.moreno72! Sorry for taking so long to get back to you! The reason for doing so was because I wanted to actually sit down and give you an in-depth response. Indeed I have looked at the source code for Huggle :-)! I'm actually working to try and study all of the code so that I can fix a few things and create a pull request to have my changes merged. In short, they didn't add shortcut/hotkey mapping programmatically for the drop down items for revert, warn, and revert-and-warn options after the 10th item, so adding hotkeys to "failure to provide a reliable source" is impossible right now. But anyways, I'm getting off-topic. Qt is something I've touched, but not in a very long time. Have you discussed your thoughts with the project members of Huggle? They may be able to confirm your findings and/or help you with linking everything to Xcode so that you can improve the code. Why is your overall goal to migrate Huggle to a swift project? If I recall correctly (from my off-wiki experience with iOS and Xcode), swift is only used to develop mobile apps for iOS, not for the development for desktop apps for Mac OS. I could be wrong; perhaps this may have changed since I last worked with Xcode and iOS. I've only so far studied the C# code for this project; there's a lot to go through and I've obviously been busy with real life (lol). Let me know if you contact any project members and what they say. I'm quite intrigued. Good luck! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:29, 1 August 2016 (UTC)
@David.moreno72: In the interim, it might be possible to use MacPorts, Homebrew, or Fink to properly install an old version of QT that does not interfere with the current one (each project installs binaries and libraries into its own sandboxes, like /sw, /opt/local, etc.).  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  01:45, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

Iron Order Motorcycle Club Edit

You removed my edit to Iron Order Motorcycle Club page. However, I only added what their very own Webpage referenced in the article states. Nearly verbatim. You should research your edits before changing well documented edits. Dtwenty7 (talk) 03:08, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi Dtwenty7! Thanks for leaving me a message with your concerns. I still believe that your edit here may not be in compliance with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, as this article is completely unreferenced. Can you provide me with the exact reference or source that you're referring to in your message? Remember that, according to Wikipedia's verifiability policy, the burden of providing proof or references to support the content being added to an article lies on the editor who is adding the content being challenged, not those who are challenging it. Thank you. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:17, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi.

Hi, sorry for that "edit" from this IP address. It looks like someone else made it since this is a shared IP from a local library or random WiFi address. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.10.241.242 (talk) 05:17, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

2016–17 Manchester City F.C Season edit

Hello Oshwah I hear that you reverted my deletion of an event regarding a friendly football match between two Manchester based football clubs in china the reason why I deleted it was the fact that the aforementioned football match was cancelled due to the football pitch not meeting professional standards I do apologize if my actions were misconstrued as an act of vandalism — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.166.196.86 (talk) 00:22, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

No worries! In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. This helps other editors to understand what you're doing and why, and will avoid confusion such as this :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:41, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Constructive

Hi there,

I didn't realize it came across that way. I just made a few different contributions. Having more than five years in the public BDSM scene, I don't feel like I'm ignorant of the issue and find the article in its current state to be in severe need of help. I also fixed obvious graffiti - that the "roleplaying" link forwarded to generic mental disorder instead of to Role-playing as it should have.

I also wanted to include asexual BDSM as it is absolutely a thing and seems a shame to be left out of the discussion. It would probably be better if I logged in and engaged on the talk page though. Do you think that's a better way to approach this?

Thanks,

Victor (vasalmon) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.172.71.147 (talk) 01:00, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi there! If you have an account, it's always encouraged that you use it. This way, you can use your account to build experience and better reference your changes rather than having to refer back to IP addresses to look back. If you believe that the content is legitimate and should be added, by all means you're welcome to take that first step and have at it! Just remember that other editors may have different thoughts and opinions, and provide feedback with your changes. Remember to assume good faith and collaborate with them constructively; we're all here to build an encyclopedia, and we're all wearing the same team jersey together! Please let me know if you have any more questions or if you need assistance. I'll be happy to help! Best of luck, and happy editing to you! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:51, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Request for comments and opinions

Hi there Oshwah, I came across your page in search for some outside opinions and comments regarding an ongoing dispute on the talk page for the country Eritrea [1]. The issue involves what naming is prefered to describe the location of the country Eritrea in the lead and the geographic section of the article. I have argumented for restoring the use of the term East Africa or Eastern Africa which used by international organization such as United Nations[1][2], African Union[3] and African development bank[4][5] to mention a few, East Africa was also recently used in the article until the other part in the dispute changed it to Horn of Africa. One of my suggestions was to include both since Eritrea is part of both East Africa and Horn of Africa, even though the latter being a less recognized region and a less used term to describe the country's location by international organizations and media. At the moment it only mentions Horn of Africa. I think it could mention both or only East Africa. The sources from the international organizations are being overlooked. It would be great to get some opinions from an experienced user like yourself. Would you mind taking a look and leave some comments? FYI ive also opened up a case on the disupte resolution notice boarding in trying to resolve this. See [2]. I also belive that the article needs supervision by admin since some users on there are trying impede changes leading to possible breach of WP:NPV and WP:RS, see the section "content dispute" on the talk page [3].Could possibly suggest one? Barry Stevens edits

Hi, thanks for getting in touch. I did not intentionally delete any content from the entry for Barry Stevens. In fact, I was adding valid info. The original entry was put together in a strange and possibly confusing way. There was an initial section on "Life," about her early years, then a later section on "Personal life," which was wholly focused on her son, now Steve Andreas, and his career. In my editing of the "Life" section I mentioned her daughter, Judith Sande Stevens, then cut the "Personal life" section and pasted its content (on Steve Andreas) into the expanded "Life" section. All the substantive content was retained, and valid new content was added. Is it possible now to restore my edits, all done in the interest of improving the Barry Stevens entry? Furfortman (talk) 23:17, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi Furfortman! I apologize; I see that you were making modifications to the article, and you provided a reason for removing the content (it looks like you were just trying to move it?) - it was my mistake and I have restored the article back to where it was after your last edit. Please feel free to ask me any questions or express any concerns. Otherwise, I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:33, 30 July 2016 (UTC)

More on Barry Stevens

One more detail: in the Barry Stevens entry, in the "Life" section, there is a note that "Fritz Perls described Barry as a "natural-born therapist." I had put that line in the intro paragraph, where it belongs, but with your cancellation of my edits it is back in the "Life" section, where it is out of place. Furfortman (talk) 23:28, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi Furfortman. If you take a look at this diff, it shows that the page has been restored to the exact state that it was after you made your changes. If content is in the wrong place, can you verify that you may not have moved it yet? If you can provide a diff of you having moved that content, that would be of help as well. Thanks. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:06, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Dean Tuza - proposed deletion review?

Hi Oshwah, I saw that you proposed deletion of a 'Dean Tuza' article. To be honest, I'm not incredibly familiar with adding/updating wikis.. but from what I ve read i think you prosposed to delete it because there wasn't any sources/references. I've added a couple now, which reference Dean Tuza's work as a professional music producer. Hopefully this will suffice, but I'll keep looking for some more and add them if I think they're suitable. Let me know if there's anything else that you believe is missing in order to remove this proposed deletion. Many thanks, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Stclairjon (talkcontribs) 03:00, 30 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi Stclairjon! If it's a biography of a living person and I proposed deletion on the article because it was unreferenced, then you can remove the PROD tag if you've provided one. That's perfectly fine to do. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:56, 30 July 2016 (UTC)

Endorsements edit revert

Hi -- you reverted one of my recent edits at List of Hillary Clinton presidential campaign endorsements, 2016 due to it not being constructive. Can you please elaborate? Thanks in advanced. MrVenaCava (talk) 04:20, 30 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi MrVenaCava, and thanks for leaving me a message with your concerns. Looking at the edits I reverted, I'm honestly not sure what happened. I might have accidentally reverted your edit in the list instead of the one that I intended to. I went ahead and have stricken out the warning I left on your talk page. You're more than welcome to restore the content I reverted. If you need help doing so, let me know. I apologize for the mistake and the confusion. Again, I'm not sure what happened and how. I very much appreciate you for bringing it to my attention. I hope you have a great day, and I wish you happy editing! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:25, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi Rogerrabelo! Welcome to Wikipedia! What article are you referring to? Is it Nandana Lokuwithana? If so, then it looks like the last edit you made was reverted because the editor felt that the references you cited were not reliable. I recommend that you review Wikipedia's guide on identifying reliable sources. It will provide you with everything you need to know, and it should answer all of your questions. If you still have questions after reading this guide, you're welcome to either ask me, or you can ask JJMC89 (the editor who reverted your change). I know JJMC89 well, and he'll be more than happy to assist you as well. Thanks again for the message, and happy editing. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:19, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Trump University

I don't understand why you removed quotes from Trump "University." Upholding a neutral point of view does not require us to pretend that a business that sells real estate seminars is a university. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jeffreystringer (talkcontribs) 02:31, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi Jeffreystringer! I think you should read your message to me again (but do so aloud to yourself); I will answer your question and hopefully it will make sense. You're close, but I'll correct you on a few key words here. Upholding a neutral point of view requires that we do not make or imply analysis "that a business that sells real estate seminars is a university". That is not up to us to do, and adding those quotes does just that -- which is not in compliance with the policy. Please take some time to review the policy, and I'll be happy to answer any questions that you have regarding it. Thank you for leaving me a message, and I wish you happy editing :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:29, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Name spelling needs correction.

Hi,

My name is POOJA GOR. There is a page with the name POOJA GAUR. The last name spelling needs to be change. I myself am the person in reference. there are enough articles on the net to prove the spelling. please tell me a way to prove it. thats also the reason i changed/edited the content on the page which was removed. I need my name spelling to be correct. Thats all i have to ask. I have a facebook page and instagram page verified. At least the verified accounts should assure you that the spelling of the last name is GOR not GAUR. Please see https://www.facebook.com/ppgor09 , and https://www.instagram.com/ppgor09 Please change it. Thank you so much in advance.

POOJA GOR Pjgor09 (talk) 14:07, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Pjgor09: I have moved the article. However, you may not be notable, as you do not have coverage in multiple reliable sources. Notable doesn't mean famous, it just is the standard that Wikipedia has to determine what gets an article. Also, you should not edit the article yourself, as you have a conflict of interest. Propose changes on the talk page. I may put this article up for deletion, after a thorough search. ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 15:49, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

Editing of the Kasumi Dead or alive article

I wish to remain anonymous but between us, I am the one who made that review. Therefore I can assure you that the review is from a reliable source.

I tried putting that detail (that KBP scored a 1.5/10 citing 140 flaws in a 34 minute movie) but the data got repeatedly taken down. The reason I did not post a link to the actual video is because the video contains sexual content and I was unsure about the policies here about posting a link to an xhamster or pornhub or xvideos page where I conducted a very thorough review. You can see its existence for yourself, just type "kunoichi broken princess detailed review" in google videos and the 43 minute video is my one.

Please do let me know if I am allowed to post a link that takes users directly to the xhamster, pornhub or xivideos page. I feel if you can make a reference to Studio FOW, then surely a reference to some work that specifically reviews movies from Studio FOW must be included.

Trump Tower (New York City) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_Tower_(New_York_City) 203 m is equivalent to 666.01 ft.

Good evening Oshwah

203 m is equivalent to 666.01 ft.

The source that I am citing is math pure and simple.

Unit: foot = 1 (ft) = 12 inches = 304.8 Millimetres = 0.3048 Metres

1 m equals 3.28084 ft. 3.28084 x 203 = 666.01 To be exact it is 203m = 666ft 0.1259964in.

If you want a source use this links.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conversion_of_units https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foot_(unit) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Acceleration_conversions https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_units https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metric_system

Please put back the correction the math is precise. I have also confirm the architectural drawings for Trump Tower and it measures exactly 203 m in height. I am also keeping a record of this conversation like wikipedia is keeping a record of my IP and I am sharing it with all my colleagues in architecture and engineering. One thing is to have in wikipedia erroneous facts about other disciplines but math is for lack of a better word precise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.33.103.12 (talk) 00:09, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Oshwah I try to change it once again providing my my sources link and it wont allow me to do it. Is my math wrong? I do not think so... Are my sources wrong? I can use the Speed of light standard if you like but the math will be a bit heavy and only change the result slightly. Why is putting the correct number in ft for a building such a problem in wikipedia? Or is this building in particular... Ill try to find another building with a mistake to edit this one is some how protected... Steve Byrne's birthday is wrong on Wikipedia - it is July 21, 1974 not 1984

IMDb is the source, and Steve Byrne's last special on Netflix from May 2014 aired when he indicated during the show that he was 39. If he was born in '84 as incorrectly indicated on Wikipedia he would have said he was 29. July 21 is not contested. Both Wikipedia and IMDb agree there, and that is also roughly supported by his comment in May 2014 that he was 39, and not already 40.

I only left a comment to support my update as I did not see how to cite an IMDb page.Eshawger (talk) 10:18, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi there! Sorry, but this constitutes original research, which is not allowed on Wikipedia. Please review this guideline, as well as Wikipedia's guidelines on identifying reliable sources. If you find an external source that meet Wikipedia's guidelines, you'll be set to go. Remember that biographies of living people undergo strict scrutiny with content that is added. If content is unreferenced (especially if it is negative, controversial, or contentious), it must be removed on-sight. 15-year-old David Tiant as an 11-year-old

This situation is never mentally safe for a 15-year-old David Tiant character to be an 11-year-old type in WB's Greetings from Tucson. Even if you have a reason why it is made, then that reason is never mentally safe at all to deceased actor Pablo Santos, who played David at all. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikicavsteel (talkcontribs) 23:33, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Monday wasn't a good day

Sorry I bailed after you said Happy Monday. My computer started overheating. I think my CPU cooler stopped working correctly. — JJMC89(T·C) 02:36, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

JJMC89 - Sorry, man. If it makes you feel better, my SSD died (AGAIN!) and I had to RMA the thing for another one. Third SSD I'll be sent since I ordered it. For a Corsair Neuron XT, I'm quite surprised. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:39, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
Corsair's just disappointing then. My cooler is the H80i GT. I really hope the cooler is the issue. I ordered a Noctua NH-D15 as a replacement. I was going for silence, so hopefully it is quieter. — JJMC89(T·C) 02:58, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
JJMC89 - Really?!! I have the 110i GTX cooler. That thing works like a dream. I'm sorry you're having problems with it. Corsair has been quite a good brand to me. I'm shocked that my SSDs have been failing at the rate they have been. I'm on my second RMA. :-/ ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:16, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
I had a H100i in my last build and it worked great too. I'm hoping it is the cooler. If it isn't then I'm in more trouble. It was working without issue the day before. When I boot it now the temperature just rises until it gets too hot and needs shut it off. — JJMC89(T·C) 03:21, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
JJMC89 - It could just be as simple as re-applying thermal grease and re-tightening the cooler base in order to make solid contact. You should give that a try before investing money into different parts. If the pump and the fans are working, you might just need some simple elbow grease to fix the issue ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:24, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
I did that yesterday. It didn't help. :/ — JJMC89(T·C) 03:27, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
JJMC89 - Are the pumps and fans functional? What's your temperature spike actually like? When does it happen? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:28, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
It was in the high 90s. It happens anytime the computer is on. The temperature will start to climb as soon as it starts up. I monitored from the BIOS to make sure there wasn't an issue in Windows. The fans are working; they ramped up to 100% making causing me to notice the issue. The pump might not be working. The loop felt cool, like it wasn't moving any heat off the CPU. — JJMC89(T·C) 03:38, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
JJMC89 - Ah, well pump malfunction is definitely no bueno. If you're within the 5 year warranty (I think it's 5 years?), definitely RMA that bad boy. Coming from someone who just did it the other day, they make it easy and they'll take care of you. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 03:41, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
I got it recently, so it is still under warranty. — JJMC89(T·C) 03:48, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

I was actually trying to link to the article on meta wikipedia, called don't be a jerk. Yes, it is called that. I think I recall, a long time ago, when it was still called Don't be a dick, but that has apparently changed. Choke vs coke

I'm trying to find a good source for the claim in Staged Combustion Cycle, but "coke" is the right word. Hydrogen doesn't coke, or produce sooty particles, whereas kerosene does coke. Appable (talk) 07:51, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Appable - Ohhh. The article appeared to be about an engine (hence "Staged Combustion Cycle"), which does use the term "choke" (used to refer to a method to get the motor to start). Hi Oshwah! While you're not an Admin (yet!), you're good at stuff like this – is this user page kosher?!... TIA. --IJBall (contribstalk) 19:22, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) That looks to be a WP:NOTWEBHOST violation there, tagged it for U5. Also the talk page is a duplicate of the user page. (I'm not an admin, but I play one on TV) RickinBaltimore (talk) 19:25, 3 August 2016 (UTC)
IJBall - it looks like confusion by the user and an attempt to write an autobiography, or the user was completely confused regarding account creation and just wanted to write an article about that person. While tagging for deletion surely is a way to solve (there's plenty wrong with it), I'd suggest also talking to the user and inquiring about the content to see if we can possibly help. If the content is an autobiography (which it is, lol), the subject isn't notable, then... well... that's that. It just never hurts to try and help if we can. :-) But yes, there's plenty wrong with it. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:37, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Hello!

I work for MUTTS and we were recently reviewing the MUTTS Wikipedia page and noticed you had added some uncited information about the actors and actresses to play the voices in the MUTTS film. Can you tell me where you obtained that information and why it was added? The voices for the film have not yet been decided or released. We will make sure to update with the most recent information in the near future.

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.114.168.236 (talkcontribs)

Hi there! I didn't add the content to the article myself; I simply reverted a change where someone removed content but didn't explain why using the edit summary. If there are issues with the content and it should be removed, I recommend that you discuss it on the article's talk page or ask someone who is uninvolved to do so. The reason is because (from your own words above) you have personal ties with the article subject, which represents a conflict of interest. Editing or even participating in discussions or votes involving articles that you have a conflict of interest with is discouraged by the community, as any edits to the article usually do not reflect a neutral point of view. I hope that I've answered your question and provided you with the assistance you needed. If you have any more questions, please let me know. Cheers -- ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:46, 3 August 2016 (UTC)

Warnings on removal of speedy deletion tags

I see that in this edit you removed the words "a page you have created yourself" from a warning about removing a speedy deletion tag. I fully understand why you did that, but it does have the disadvantage of appearing to say that it is unacceptable to remove any speedy deletion tags, not just ones on pages the editor has created, which is a misrepresentation of policy. In this situation I think the least bad option is to post a message telling the editor not to remove speedy deletion tags from a page he or she created, but without naming any specific page or suggesting that they have already done so. The message I use is at User:JBW/Speedy, which I "subst" into the relevant talk page. If the editor who removed the tag was the creator of the page, as is no doubt almost always the case, then they will know what it's about, and get the message just as effectively as if they get the standard templated message. If, on the other hand, it was someone else, then they have just been warned about something to avoid doing for future reference, without being accused of anything. Obviously it's up to you what messages you post, but you may like to use either the same message, or something similar in your own words. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 12:38, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi JamesBWatson! It's great to run into you and see you again. I wanted to thank you for leaving me a message here and for discussing this situation and how you, yourself, handle the issue of the warning and its exact wording. You hit the nail on the head; I removed that section because, while I (quote, unquote) "know" that a user logged out (or even in the situation of sock or meat puppetry), I'm not in a position to make or even imply that kind of accusation, and I really don't want to. I think that you're right and it's something that has crossed my mind on several occasions. While the efforts I've put fourth to soften and tailor these warnings to new users, suspected meats and socks, and COIs are a good start and should happen -- it's not enough, and they can be miss-translated by new users to mean something differently. I definitely don't want to imply that they can't remove any tags at all, but define a fine line between "not being the creator" and "brand new account/IP removing the tag with no explanation". Even though the tag removal guidelines are not explicitly defined in this current situation (or really much at all), putting the tag back and warning them not to remove the tag without an explanation is what I've seen us do, as well as done before. It's a weird "grey area", really... a line between "well I know it's you", but "I can't prove it and I need to AGF and not bite". I appreciate you for providing me with your template; I think that I should just take some time and create my own to tailor to this situation. It's the right thing to do. Thanks again for your message. I think it's a good area of discussion :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:31, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
There is no perfect way of dealing with this situation, but I think the one I use is a good compromise. I am reluctant to just say something like "don't remove a speedy deletion tag again without giving a reason", without mentioning "from an article you created", because that way in the more than 90% of cases where it is the same editor trying to be deceptive, he or she is likely to think they have got away with it, so there is little or no discouragement to do it again. When I started posting messages of this sort, I thought there would be a risk of angry complaints that I was implying that they were socking, even though I hadn't actually said so. However, I have been posting messages of that sort for years, and by now I must have posted hundreds of them, but as far as I remember I have never once got that kind of comeback. (If you check the editing history of the message I use, you will see that I created it a few months ago, but long before that I had been posting similar messages by copy-edit-and-paste from the standard template messages.) The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 20:06, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
JamesBWatson - This is very good stuff that you've just provided me. These were my primary concerns, and I think you've really helped to address them. Thank you :-). It just comes to show you... it's possible to put extra time into making sure that your warnings are correct and have it do worse than if you didn't. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:23, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Page Edit

Hi, i just edited a page and deleted a paragraph but it says you reverted the information stating "reason for removal doesn't make sense..." There wasn't much space in the 'edit summary' box so i couldn't explain it properly - my apologies. The paragraph i deleted spoke of a criminal conviction in 2011. If you google/wikipedia search 'Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974', you will see that it "enables some criminal convictions to be ignored after a rehabilitation period. Its purpose is that people do not have a lifelong blot on their recordsItalic text because of a relatively minor offence in their past." After a specific period of time, the convicted person is to be treated as a person who never committed the crime. In this case, the period has passed and therefore I don't think it is fair to have that information on wikipedia. Just my opinion. Thanks for your time. Matty80 (talk) 23:56, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi Matty80, and thank you for reaching out to me with an explanation for the removal of the content on John Taylor, Baron Taylor of Warwick. Wikipedia's policies on content differ from what you may find on Google or other places. We follow our own rules and guidelines, and we don't remove content based off a principle that a country establishes. A Wikipedia policy (in a way) that can somewhat apply in this situation is the fact that Wikipedia is not a bureaucracy. We also don't remove content simply because someone "doesn't like it". All edits must reflect our five pillars, as well as our policies and guidelines. I recommend that you review these guidelines, and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again for your message. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:22, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for taking the time to respond. I understand your point completely and i will review the wiki guidelines and policies in detail. Cheers! Matty80 (talk) 19:00, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi again, Matty80! Thanks for getting back to me. You're very welcome; I'm glad to hear that you plan to take time and review Wikipedia's policies and guidelines and use them to contribute and help expand the project! Remember, if you have any questions regarding any of those policies and guidelines, do not hesitate to ask me them. My talk page is always open to you and I'll be happy to help you! I hope you have a great rest of your day, and I wish you happy editing. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:12, 5 August 2016 (UTC)
Many thanks, my friend, you are a gentleman. I have gone over a lot of material on the wiki policies and guidelines (especially Biographies of living persons ("BLPs")) and i wanted your expert opinion on a matter in respect of the article I tried to edit. The Biographies of living persons ("BLPs") guideline clearly state, '("BLPs") must be written conservatively and with regard for the subject's privacy. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a tabloid: it is not Wikipedia's job to be sensationalist, or to be the primary vehicle for the spread of titillating claims about people's lives; the possibility of harm to living subjects must always be considered when exercising editorial judgment.' Now, if you go through the wiki page of John_Taylor,_Baron_Taylor_of_Warwick, you will see from a neutral point of view that every section has been written 'conservatively' with 1-3 lines BUT the 'Controversy' section is built on 3 LONG paragraphs which contain extreme detail almost identical to what is to be found in newspapers looking for publicity. To me, this looks like a violation of the BLP policies and defeats the whole point of having Wikipedia as a neutral encyclopedia. I'd like your expert unbiased opinion on the fact that the controversy section kinda reads like a tabloid. If you agree, I'd like your blessing to go forward and condense the 3 long paragraphs into a few short lines so the article does not appear biased. Hope you are having a great weekend! Matty80 (talk) 01:54, 7 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi Matty80, it's good to see you again! Thanks for taking the time to review the relevant policies and guidelines. The bread-and-butter of Wikipedia's BLP policy boils down to the sources that the article provides with the content. If the references are not reliable or if they're not referenced at all, the content should be removed. Sure, we always try to give respect to privacy of BLP's; that's why we don't publish their address or phone number (even if there's sources about it), or publish anything that isn't supported by sources that are reliable and secondary. Examine the sources that support the content you're questioning; if they're not reliable, or if they do not directly support or cover any content that the section is inadvertently claiming that they do (i.e. content says this, but the references cited don't make any such supporting statements), then by all means... remove it. I'd also leave a section on the article's talk page discussing the removal too. I hope my response has answered your questions. If you have any more questions or if I missed something, please let me know. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:57, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Competition and Consumer Act 2010

Hi,

You keep rejecting my edits to this page and I am of the opinion that you are incorrect in doing so. In Australia, Australian Consumer Law (more specifically, Unfair Contract Term Law) has been reformed and the Wikipedia page does not reflect that. As we speak, businesses are in a formal 'adjustment period' which allows them to adjust their contracts to reflect the unfair contract term laws applying not only to standard form consumer contracts but also to small business standard form contracts. However, that adjustment period ends on 12 November 2016 and any contracts entered into or varied on or from 12 November 2016 will be subject to the new amendments. The Wikipedia page should reflect this because it is, right now, a misleading source. Assuming that businesses would actually use Wikipedia as a source (which I highly doubt) without legal advice, you can understand that this would be extremely detrimental.

Warm regards, Stephen Klimis

P.S. see google; also, https://www.accc.gov.au/business/business-rights-protections/unfair-contract-terms

Mistakes were made

recently made an edit to a page, which I'll admit myself, I did make edit while still in a blind rage and should have cited my sources. having little respect for the individual, I even made the mistake of changing information that I should not have. My sincerest apologies. on the subject of the page that was being edited, the included information that the user is a known spammer is actually information that should be known. here is just a sample of what other users in the Youtube community have discovered https://www.youtube.com/user/nitroneonicman/discussion I may not be the best with words, or be able to put the most accurate description for the situation at hand. but this is known information that should be stated on a page that promotes deception. even if all that is added into the description is: "Known Spammer" or perhaps there may be a better description... all I ask is that the truth be available and the deception not continue. wikki page in question: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Green_Raver — Preceding unsigned comment added by SwampMonstertruth (talkcontribs) 03:39, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

I recently edited the page for Yeshiva Zichron Yaakov. My edits contained no bias. I was a student of the school, and all events I reported were true and factual (as I experienced them). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.127.127.163 (talk) 23:47, 5 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi there! Unfortunately, your experience and your personal knowledge of events and with article subjects constitutes original research (which is not allowed on Wikipedia). Be careful not to edit article subjects where you have a conflict of interest, as it is highly discouraged behavior by the community. For example: I do not edit articles that involve where I went to school, my place of employment, the city I live, or other articles where I could be seen by others as having a conflict of interest in (even if I feel like I don't). It's important, because editing article where I could be seen as having a conflict of interest in can lead others to question the neutrality of the changes I made to them (which having a conflict of interest with the article subject would be a valid reason to question neutrality). Please review the policies I gave you, and let me know if you have any questions about them. Thanks for understanding :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:06, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

lol ...Huggle syncs your local settings with your huggle3.css file each time it open and it closes. Huggle, by default, sorts your list chronologically; change your filter settings to sort by rating and you'll start seeing vandalism pop up much more often. Use the menus to revert and warn. DO NOT use the keyboard hotkeys until you become familiar with the tool using your mouse. No joke. And, as always, assume good faith. Now go dig up some treasure! ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 06:09, 6 August 2016 (UTC)
Most edits listed by Huggle are constructive. Do you also see constructive edits? As edits without "edit summary" made by IPs are not always vandalism. Marvellous Spider-Man (talk) 07:13, 6 August 2016 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @Marvellous Spider-Man: If all of the edits Huggle found, or a very high percentage of them, were vandalism, then we might as well just get a bot to go through the feed automatically revert every edit. The threshold is deliberately quite low because the most obvious vandalism is already reverted by ClueBot NG. Most edits listed by Huggle are constructive, and it's the job of vandal fighters to go through all those edits and find the unconstructive ones. Hope that helps. Omni Flames (talk) 07:25, 6 August 2016 (UTC)
Going off of what Omni Flames has said, you will find (just like with any tool) that most of the edits you see are constructive and not vandalism. There is no silver bullet; if we had a way to simply click "find only the vandalism" and have it do so perfectly, ClueBot would already be programmed to do it. The best thing we can do is filter results by behavior which is most likely attributed to edits that are vandalism (i.e. diffs with addition of content matching certain words, edits by new users, diffs that contain a large amount of removal or vice versa). It's up to us to go through those filtered results and manually identify which edits are in good faith and which are... well not so much. There are many edits by IPs and new users that contain no edit summary (such as content removal). Before you revert such edits, press 'H' to view the article's history. You'll find that many of those edits are part of other edits by someone that is simply re-organizing the article in an effort to improve it. Simply reverting that edit will revert all of them, which isn't good. In this case, it's best to simply press 'W' to warn them for the removal of content but without reverting the change. They'll get the message, and not be interrupted from their constructive work. If you have any more questions or need advice, you know where to find me! Don't hesitate to ask me any questions you have. I'm here to help! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:41, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

About my article

I want some help about bringing my article to the article space. As I'm a beginner its being difficult for me to bring it in the right space. So would you please help me in this case. Starry Angelina Edwards (talk) 07:47, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

Starry Angelina Edwards - Looking at your contributions so far, it looks like we need to set you up with some tutorials :-)! I'd start with The Wikipedia Adventure, a place where you'll about all things "Wikipedia", as well as how our Five Pillars work! You can then go to the Wikipedia tutorial called "Your First Article", where you can learn about how article creation works, as well as our notability policies (which is very important to know and understand). If you have questions about these policies and tutorials, please let me know. I'll be happy to assist you. Good luck and happy editing to you! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:52, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Help!

I was trying to archive my talk page, and everything went alright until the end. I created the archive 1 page, added the archive box on my talk page, saved-and then found the archive box didn't recognize I had any archives on Wikipedia. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Joel.Miles925 (talk) 19:47, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

Update-I managed to deal with it myself. Anyway, I guess this will serve as another section for your archives. Cheers! Joel.Miles925 (talk) 20:01, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi Joel.Miles925! I'm happy to hear that you figured out your issue. If you saw that your archive box wasn't linking to your archive page because the link was red, it's usually just because your talk page cache just needed to be purged (this forces the Wikimedia servers to create a new copy of the cache, with everything updated). Just purge your page, and you'll be fine. Please let me know if you have any questions in the future. I'll be happy to help you. Have a great rest of your day, Joel.Miles925! :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 13:45, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah, I was about to revert that edit as well but you beat me to it. I think you missed some though. It was more than just that one edit. GustavoRomeo68 (talk) 01:38, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

Cupping Therapy

Subjective in every way. Recent media stories should more than highlight this. Proper eastern term or Chinese should be used as header for the article in Wikipedia. The use of the term cupping therapy is a symptom of the West's continued corruption and ignorance of Asian culture. I can go on but for now I will cite Edward Said's Orientalism. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smunkyslap (talkcontribs) 02:13, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

Smunkyslap - It sounds like there may be some neutral point of view issues here. I highly recommend that you review Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy before you continue editing the article. I'm afraid that your edits may not have been, nor might they plan to, adhere to such (which is required). Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:54, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

Saint's Prophecy

I copied and pasted the description given by Catholic.com. However, the first sentence in the entry is strictly factual (Pope John Paul 1's birthplace) as is the Latin translation. And as such, it has no tone. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:3204:8730:E985:1B23:27AC:6287 (talk) 03:51, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

Yikes, don't do that! Copying content directly from outside sources constitutes a copyright violation, which is a very serious violation. Rather than copying content directly from external sources and using it as content here, you should write it in your own words (or directly quote it if it's short), and cite the source in-line. Please review these policies and guidelines and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:57, 9 August 2016 (UTC)

Stronetta

Hello you have the spelling of this page wrong. I tried to edit it. It is "Stornetta". It is our family name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.27.197.98 (talk) 00:03, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Hello O. I typed Stronetta into Google search and everything came up Stornetta except the little map on the right side of the page. It looks like a page move might be needed. There is this WikiP article as well Clover Stornetta Farms. It might be worth asking at the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject California though there is a note that the project isn't very active anymore. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 00:43, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi MarnetteD! Very interesting... I'll have a deeper look at this. I appreciate you for messaging me and bringing this to my attention. :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:45, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi MarnetteD! So, I took a few minutes and was able to find Stronetta, CA and at the exact place the article describes. It looks like the current spelling is correct as-is. What do you think? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:55, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
I am just not sure O. Since it is a Google map I would expect it to have the same name as the one that is in my link to the search page. As well you know if a typo happens in data entry it quickly becomes the only version that anybody sees :-) You will notice that to the left of the city are the "Arena Stornetta Public Lands" It is also weird that if I type "Stronetta" without using California the only sites I find are ones with maps with that spelling. In this day and age even the smallest community seems to have a website but I don't find one for this city. I tried another angle and looked up "Mendocino County cities" The only site that mentioned it was this one. The others didn't list it so it might be a very small town indeed - channeling my inner David Attenborough with that line. The article uses this ref which is probably definitive for WikiP's purposes. I'll ping Binksternet and Drmargi. Although they live southern part of California they might be able to help in untangling this. I also hope they will forgive me if this is an unwanted intrusion into their editing. I wonder if the OP's family is involved with the article about the Clover Stornetta Farms that we have the article for. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 01:58, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
There was a situation a bit like this back in February as seen here Talk:Pleasant Valley Grange Hall. Hopefully we can get enough editors to track down "what is what" so that things get straightened out as happened with that one. I think that is one of the times when WikiP is at its best. MarnetteD|Talk 01:58, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
Forgot to leave this set of links Stronetta, California (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) for the benefit of any editors who try to help. MarnetteD|Talk 02:17, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

That's a little town way up north. Let me do a bit of research, but city names tend to morph for a variety of reasons. For example, here is sunny SoCal, San Dismas is now San Dimas. It's possible something similar happened with Stronetta. That's very definitely the name of the area near the Pt. Arena Lighthouse. --Drmargi (talk) 07:36, 10 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi Drmargi! Thanks for stepping in and for helping us out! Keep us updated and definitely let us know what you find from your research :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:18, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
I think I may have found a pretty good clue to which is right. I'm trying to lay my hands on the ACSC Mendocino County map, since the Auto Club is about as reliable as it gets, but for now, I found this, which originates with Mendocino County. Note the history on the second page. There's also this website, which also originates with Mendocino Cty. They appear to confirm that Stornetta is the correct spelling, and that Stronetta is the alternate spelling. I'm wondering if Stronetta is a local pronunciation that's evolved into common use; it strikes me as the easier of the two to say. I see that all the time, with our Spanish-origin names.
Interestingly, both Stronetta and Stornetta will yield good results via Google. It appears Google has made an error with spelling that influences their search engine's output. --Drmargi (talk) 17:19, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
To me, it looks like a recent misspelling by Google. I'm not convinced that there is an alternate pronunciation to Stornetta, and I don't remember seeing a sign in the area that said "Welcome to Stronetta" or similar. (I've been to Point Arena Lighthouse three times.) There are no local businesses with Stronetta in the name. Binksternet (talk) 13:11, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Oshwah, it's 99. You restored a heap of promotional and poorly sourced content. I've no desire to leave a warning here, but the article is a pure press release. Where to now? 2601:188:1:AEA0:6984:3659:65B8:7B8 (talk) 00:02, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

The article's talk page is the next place to go. If you feel that your content removal is sufficient, you should start a discussion first and get input from the community :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:03, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
I disagree. A bold reversion of the content was well within reason, rather than starting a thread at the talk page of a rarely read article. Will seek a higher profile venue. 2601:188:1:AEA0:6984:3659:65B8:7B8 (talk) 00:05, 11 August 2016 (UTC)
Being bold is perfectly fine to do, don't get me wrong :-)! But if others disagree with your removal and wish to discuss it first, that is also reasonable. I hope you choose to discuss your reasoning on the article's talk page, but I obviously can't make you. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:08, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

The Gt350R time does not meet the requirements to be posted. All sources indicate the worDS "according to..." and lead back to Evo Magazine who stated they would post the confirmation as soon as it was received. 18 months later, no confirmation has been posted. The Wiki article states:

For new entries, this list requires an official manufacturer’s press release for manufacturer-conducted tests. If the test has been conducted by an independent publication, an article in that publication is required. New entries require an original, uncut on-board video, showing the lap and the timing from start to finish. A statement that OEM tires have been used is required.

Which literally zero criteria has been met. This has been discussed on numerous occasions on the talk page as well as discrediting one of the sources used multiple times. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BlueEyedSuicide (talkcontribs) 00:22, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Ibinabo Fiberesima

Hello there,

I was the one who made the edit on Ibinabo Fiberesima. I am Nigerian and what I am writing is factual. She contested for Miss NUGA competition in 1990 held at Unical and placed second. That same year, she contested for Miss Wonderland and won the contest. In 1991, she contested for Miss Nigeria and took the second position. The winner was Bibiana Ohio. The following year, she contested for the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria contest where she placed third, (2nd runner-up) with the winner being Nike Oshinowo. Read the below statement cited from Miss Nigeria that lays to rest the controversy of her being a participant in Miss Nigeria in 1997

"English Literature student Ibinabo Fiberesima was unable to name the vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan which she attended.[23] Fiberesima has claimed in numerous interviews and on her former website that she had competed in 1997,[24][25][26] but this statement is questionable because no contest was held from 1994 to 1998; she had actually been a contestant in 1991, finishing second behind Bibiana Ohio." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Nigeria — Preceding unsigned comment added by 38.99.34.6 (talk) 01:17, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Oshwah. I noticed the warning you left on Union de Genghis' talk page. Hi Linguist111! Trust me, I know of this LTA very well. I report his sock puppets as soon as I see them. I had already reported that sock user to AIV; I was quickly cleaning up his troll edits and accidentally had Huggle automatically warn him instead of just reverting, hence the reason that you see warnings on his talk page in "good faith"... lol. I just didn't care to remove the warnings given that he was reported and a block was definitely going to happen; the warnings I accidentally left essentially didn't matter at that point. So I just left them. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:09, 11 August 2016 (UTC)

Improper attitude on your part.

I did not vandalize your article, rather it is you who is committing atrocities against me. My data was refused because you didn't want to accept my reference using IMDB. Yet the line before uses that site "a biography of tennis star Maureen Connolly.<ref>[http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0003981/ Lydia Cornell profile], imdb.com; January 19, 2016.</ref>" If my data that comes from a few TV documentaries and TV interview and that is backed by IMBD, which is used by the article and other articles, is rejected, then the data in this article and other articles using IMDB must be removed immediately. It is just because that I am not of your inner circle, or kiss your butt. Don't slander me by saying I am vandalizing your article, when the reference site that I gave is used in many articles as substantial, or I will begin to to sue Wikipedia and seek you out for personal suing, which I believe you have had faced many times. Vandalism is a crime that has not been committed here by me, but you have perpetuated a fraud by rejecting the factual verified data leaving half truths and innuendo. So, shut your mouth and quit your bigotry against me and other by rejecting references used in many Wikipedia articles. you oligarchical piece of trash. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paul Retinue (talkcontribs) 22:58, 12 August 2016 (UTC)

English

Hi there, BRITISH English... is LITERALLY ENGLISH... all other forms of English are NOT English... The term British English deligitimises the origin of the language... It's bad enough American English is over-riding the actual language, but the internet reinforcing that it is secondary by needing the classification of 'British' is insulting, there is no Scottish English nor Irish or Welsh English... ALL these regions speak ENGLISH despite regional dialects. The variations on ENGLISH are: American English and Australian English. The Americans are removing themselves from the English language one word at a time and destroying ENGLISH, the Australians are actually ADDING to the language. 81.106.106.129 (talk) 00:37, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi Stinghornet12899! Welcome to Wikipedia! I believe you're asking about your account in regards to your question here (which you removed?); Nope, I am not a Wikipedia Administrator. I'm simply a user whose been here for some time :-). Having 12 edits and an account that is a day old (depending on different circumstances, of course) means that you should be autoconfirmed. If you weren't then, you should definitely be autoconfirmed by now (seeing that you now have 31 edits and an account that is old enough). Don't worry about user rights right now; instead, you should find areas on Wikipedia that interest you and contribute and work towards improving them. The rights will naturally come later, you'll see what I mean eventually. If you have questions or need help with anything, please do not hesitate to message me and ask. I'll be happy to assist you. Oshwah,

Greetings, i am Les from Brisbane post punk band Mystery of sixes mentioned in your Brisbane Punk forum, i'm responding to YOUR message to me.

Some history i think is important has been emitted and incorrectly worded.Mystery Of sixes formed in 1981 and went until 2002 ( we played the Behind the Banana Curtain for 4zzz in 2001 . When the page moves on to mention the later punk bands, namely late 80's / Mystery Of Sixes played along side ALL those bands mentioned during that time frame in the venues you mentioned. We were also the ONLY original outfit to have a residency at The Aussie Nash ( Stanley Street )for 14 months ~ every Friday and Saturday night from March 1983 right up until May of 1984 we had to remain prolific and APRA have 87 recorded works on file ~ we moved to Randwick Sydney for two years after that returning to Brisbane in late 1986 ~ the issues i have mentioned are fact and can not be confronted ~ we have been discredited / it would appear some one doesn't particularly like us, but don't you think it should be kept honest and non ~ bias . — Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.2.127.186 (talkcontribs)

"Neutrality" on this site

I have had my addition to anti feminism removed due to the fact it wasn't neutral, but feminists can have there opinion on a page. An example of this is the gender page where it says gender is socially constructed, which by the way is not true. Sort this out please and make this site actually neutral. — Preceding unsigned comment added by The logical Gamer (talkcontribs) 07:30, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi The logical Gamer! If you see content on an article that doesn't appear to meet Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, or if information is wrong and you have a reliable source showing otherwise, you should remove any non-neutral content and leave a message on the article's talk page. If there are issues with articles that you can't edit, discussing your concerns on the article's talk page is (again) the best solution. Please let me know if you have any more questions. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 07:50, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Please do not make changes to others' user pages, such as what you did here, here, here, and here. I also note that you're on a final warning basis as well; please consider asking on relevant talk pages whether your changes to templates are justified before simply making them. One such change you made here puts the size out of consistency with others. While you may mean well with these ideas, changing them after being reverted and asked to stop is disruptive. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 09:49, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Two articles on Prof. Joyonti Chutia

Hey Oshwah, you have just reverted an editing that I have made to Joyanti Sutiya. Actually the Word Sutiya is a spelling mistake, so I wanted to correct this mistake. (It was not my mistake as you thought) . The word 'Sutiya' should be 'Chutia' (as I know Prof. Joyonti Chutia personally). Further, I have noticed that there is one other article as Joyanti Chutia. The content of both the pages are almost same. So, both the articles should be merged into one. ~Bikash Sharma 10:30, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

Jammu and kashmir is the territory area between Pakistan and india. But this is due to injustice of some high authorities.who don't want to kashmir in Pakistan. But in kashmir Muslims are mostly setteled more than other religions. But now india claims that kashmir is india. But how about the kashmiri's brothers. They are the Muslims. During partition it was decided that Muslims population areas are added to pakistan and hindu population areas are added to india.so now what is this. This is injustice with Pakistan and kashmiri.Kashmiri's want to collaborate with the Pakistan then why india be a dog between two Muslims brotherhood. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 119.160.97.140 (talk) 05:27, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

Apology

Oshwah, sorry for not apologizing earlier in the year, as I forgot about the situation.

I apologize for messing up the Interstate 65 page.

First, I apologize for not explaining my edits. I had never considered the importance of explaining my edits briefly, as I was relatively new to Wikipedia.

Next, I apologize for not helping to the situation and explain what happened. I was trying to add new information regarding the new Abraham Lincoln bridge on the route. Since there was someone else editing the page at a time, it corrupt the page and lost some information. I had no knowledge of this happening, as I never saw anything wrong.

Oshwah, thank you for your work on Wikipedia and requesting to talk to me about this situation. I profusely apologize for not apologizing and explaining earlier. I promise to remember this advise and to do better on Wikipedia from that point on. I hope you can forgive me for this mess.

Best wishes J.K. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.90.137.65 (talk) 05:13, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

Alcohol, the cause of and solution to, the world's problems.

I don't know how your current RfA will shake out. I want you to know that ORCP was designed to anticipate and highlight issues to prevent bloody RfA's like yours. We failed you this time. In the past we've had Wikipedians just quit after rough RfAs and all of us involved in editor retention want to avoid that. This project runs on great volunteers like you and not being universally liked or not being the best fit for a mop doesn't lessen your value to the project. Not everyone can be Anne Delong. That said, regardless of how your RfA ends no one is going to remember this RfA unless you show up at RfA again. We as a community get persnickety with these lifetime appointments and that hesitancy hurts feelings sometimes. Your good editing speaks for itself and that's the real measure of who you are as an editor. Chris Troutman (talk) 23:17, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
Hi Chris troutman. I wanted to respond and thank you for the encouragement and for the kind words. Although I'm probably going to be disappointed with the outcome of the RfA, all I can do is learn from what the community has said, take the feedback to heart, and honor the promises I made (which, are very easy promises to be honest - Don't NAC close unblock requests, and don't clerk AIV). After your second RfA, it's nearly impossible to pass another one (at least not in a very long time). I don't really know what to say about that, as many have asked about my "contingency plan" if this were not to go through. I don't really have one... haha. My unanswered question

Don't give up, - answer my question and you may win one support more. I thought you answered the first too fast, but too slow doesn't make me support ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:44, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi Gerda Arendt! My apologies. You're all set -- question answered. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:00, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for trying, and good enough for neutral ;). However, it doesn't answer the question how the arb case comes into play for the scenario. One possible answer would be to modify the answer to q4. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:22, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt - I think the expanded answer I just inserted might be what you were looking to see? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:27, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
It doesn't matter what I want to see ;) - Pigsonthewing would be none of the editors in the scenario, trust me. He knows what to avoid. - If there's no connection between the arb case and the scenario better strike it in the answer to q4. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:07, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt. I'm a fool. I see what I should have said now. All of the remedies were rescinded. So it's irrelevant. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 15:19, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
I shouldn't support someone who calls himself a fool, but will ;) - back in a moment. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:26, 29 August 2016 (UTC)
ok, got an edit conflict with another support. - When the excitement is over, contemplate the one thing from the infoboxes case: "All editors are reminded to maintain decorum and civility when engaged in discussions about infoboxes, and to avoid turning discussions about a single article's infobox into a discussion about infoboxes in general." Admin or not: when you see a scenario like the one Ritchie gave you, a reminder of this doesn't hurt, even if not living up to it will not be sanctioned. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:39, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

Congratulations on your successful RFA!
In a self-proclaimed RFA tradition, allow me to impart the words of wisdom I received from the puppy after my RFA passed –
nine long, sordid, I-really-should-have-found-a-better-hobby years ago:
  1. Remember you will always protect the wrong version. (I got nothing here. It's inevitable.)
  2. Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. Without exception, you will pick the wrong one to do. (See #5.)
  3. Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll. (You'll attract many more of those now, because mop. They must like to drink the dirty water in the bucket.)
  4. Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block, because really, what else is there to live for?
  5. Remember that when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology. It will not be a personal attack because we are admins and, therefore, we are all rouge anyway.
  6. Finally, remember to contact me if you ever need assistance, and I will do what I am able. :-)

Well done

Congratulations on the RfA. It may have been a little early, which might be why it was looking tight for a moment, but I'm glad you passed. But please do remember my advice—take things easy to start with and ask someone if you're not sure. If there's one thing I've learnt over the years, it's that it's easy to find yourself caught in the middle of something by rushing in trying to help and missing the wider context; it's also easy to piss people off and get them leaving angry messages on you talk page or hauling you to ANI, which wastes time you could have spent whacking vandals or writing articles. All the best, and good luck! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:27, 29 August 2016 (UTC)

Block templates

Hi Oshwah, hope you're enjoying the first days of being an admin, trust your enjoying it! Just wanted to let you know that the block templates you've added when blocking a user does not come up with your signature for some reason. Is this a problem with TW or do you have to sign normally when you place a block template on a user page? Class455 (talk) 15:59, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi Class455! I noticed that too. I've been blocking and adding the templates manually (no automation tools, in order to take things slow); I think it's because I need to add my signature to the inside or the end of the templates. Thanks for the heads up; I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually :-P ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:12, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
You can add the sig=yes parameter to make your signature appear inside the block template. Also, when adding protection templates, you can add the small=yes parameter so that the lock icon appears at the top right of the page. —MRD2014 (talk) (contribs) 16:40, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
AHA! Nice! Thanks, MRD2014! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 16:48, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
@Oshwah: I thought the templates were inserted automatically when you block someone using TW? Class455 (talk) 17:00, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
Class455 - They are, but I'm not using Twinkle. I'm doing blocks and adding block notice templates completely manually for the time being. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:18, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
Hey Oshwah! I'm late to the party, but my sincere congrats on your successful RfA! Glad to have you on the team :) I do highly recommend you use Twinkle to not only add block templates, but to do the actual blocking. Use TW > Block on any user-like page, fill out the form (you'll almost always want to use a preset) and it will block+template in seconds. I'm selling it hard, mostly because the module was written by yours truly, but also it really is a time-saver and ensures appropriate templates and block options were used in accordance with conventions. It means less mistakes and more time to focus on things that can't be automated. Learning to do stuff the hard way is good, but don't keep it that way! I also noticed you're manually responding to reports, when User:MusikAnimal/responseHelper exists :) Okay, I wrote that one too... no need to feel obligated to use my stuff, but do have a look at WP:ADMINTOOLS and decide for yourself what best fits your workflow. Hope this helps, and my door is always open if you need assistance. Cheers MusikAnimal talk 20:22, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

AHA! I just found out the hard way, lol! Thanks MRD2014! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:05, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
Got to love MusikAnimal's subtle advertising here. :-) I've been meaning to ask you something for a while now about responseHelper, actually. Is there a version for non-admins? I occasionally tag false positives made by DQB on UAA, but I can see a few other potential uses, too. Thanks in advance, Zerotalk 12:37, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
It's not really intended for non-admins, hence the message at UAA that says Please note that only administrators should close reports, and non-administrators are kindly asked not to comment on reports unless they believe that the closing administrators are likely to miss important information. The same is more or less true at other noticeboards (Oshwah knows this!! :), though simple comments are harmless I think. Anyway if you do close straightforward reports, the responseHelper script will still work as-is. You don't have to be an admin to use it MusikAnimal talk 18:16, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
Ah, thanks MusikAnimal. I think I was told by another admin that I could decline bot FP's, and only that. Still I'll install the script, as I think it'll prove useful, thanks once again. Zerotalk 19:22, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

Congrats!

Thank you for enduring the drill at RfA - it paid off and this is one content editor who is truly happy it did!! Best of luck! Atsme📞📧 18:01, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

Atsme, thank you so much for the support and for the kind words. I'm happy to have passed, and I won't let you down :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:20, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

A bowl of strawberries for you!

Congrats on your RFA! I voted support but moved to neutral while leaning support and planning going through a CratChat. Also, good luck! hehe. ;) KGirlTrucker81 talk what I'm been doing 19:58, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi Oshwah this information is incorrect and i was never charged with these charges and I would like this info taking down asap as it is not good for my career. Regards. Jason harris wright — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.174.8.249 (talk) 23:13, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi there! If you are who you claim to be, you need to contact the Volunteer Response Team by clicking here. They have the proper tools and training to verify your identify and assist you with your concerns. Thank you. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 23:15, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
Oshwah, I researched the accusations and the material that was included in the BLP was noncompliant with WP:BLP for several reasons beginning with the policy requirement for adding contentious material, especially that which may be libelous. I found only one source per allegation neither of which meets WP:BLP. I determined that it was best to remove the material until multiple RS can be cited to support inclusion of such information. I ask that you please carefully consider why I took such action, and will ultimately agree that it was the right thing to do. Thank you. Atsme📞📧 18:37, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
Atsme - Excellent! Thank you for taking a look and for fixing the article to be in compliance with BLP. My initial concerns were with COI content removal and I intended to take a look at the content and check, but I got side-tracked with that stupid "real life" stuff and didn't manage to get to it. Again, thanks for taking that on and for fixing the article. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:45, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
You are quite welcome. I understand part of what you've been through in recent weeks, and was happy to help. ;-) Atsme📞📧 18:49, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
HAHA! Yeah... my RfA was..... *sigh*... quite a doozy. I heard that some editors and admins had a few good betting pools going. With just how narrow of a margin that my RfA managed to pass by, I'm sure I gave them a good game. :-P ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 19:00, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

Congrats!

Heyy Oshwah! I know that this isn't really a place to put this, but congrats for adminship. I've taken a look at the RFA, and I'm glad that it went well. I would have voted support for you if I hadn't decreased my activity here or missed it.

You were the first person I actually contacted here over a tiny issue about vandalism when I was just starting. And you were the reason that I stayed. I remember that I was nervous for your response because I was undoing a bit of edits after looking at Recent Changes hehe. And you were the one to point out to me what I was doing wrong (in good faith) when I had an issue with the IP hopper's talk page. I'm glad I have someone to count on here when I have any issues :).

Keep editing and contributing Oshwah! You change lives! :D

3primetime3 - I'm so happy that you stayed. We need more editors like you, and I'm honored to be given your trust :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 08:04, 2 September 2016 (UTC)

Congratulations

Hey Oshwah! Congratulations on your successful RFA. (At least yours went better than mine did...) I know we've worked together on the Account Creation Team for awhile now and I have no doubt you'll be an excellent admin as well. RegistryKey(RegEdit) 03:43, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

eager to help

Thank you for quality articles such as Windows Push Notification Service and contibuting to Sakurai's Object, for fighting vandalism, for quoting "Raise your words, not your voice." and living up to it in your RfA, and for "I'm here to help you!!", - software engineer described as "calm, courteous, thoughtful, and eager to go the extra mile for others", you are an awesome Wikipedian!

IPv6

Hi Oshwah. FYI, many (most?) non-mobile ISPs using IPv6 will assign an entire /64 block of addresses to each subscriber. This block, while merited, won't do much good because next time they edit, they'll probably have a different address out of the /64. Rangeblocks of Comcast, Time Warner/Roadrunner, AT&T/U-verse /64s will rarely affect anyone other than the intended target. Mobile IPv6 addresses are even more difficult to handle, unfortunately, because the ranges are much larger and are shared by thousands of subscribers. —DoRD (talk) 13:40, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi DoRD! Good call. I think it was the right decision at the time, as it was clearly needed in order to stop the disruption. However, you are correct regarding the distribution of IPs for mobile devices from mobile data networks (especially LTE); since mobile users travel frequently, IPs on a device will often change from tower-to-tower or due to a low Fast Dormancy state on the device (an article I actually wrote, lolol). They're often not the easiest to handle, and it's a good thing to take into account when reviewing an IP for administrator action :-). Thanks for the coaching and the input; I appreciate this, especially given the fact that I'm very much "the newbie" ;-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 14:21, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

User 174.26.64.15

I see you have threatened this guy with loss of editing privileges. Now he is harassing me on my talk page, and I have no idea who he is. So, can we drag him before the powers that be and get it over with? I've never tried to get someone blocked before, so I have no idea where to start. Sbrianhicks (talk) 17:11, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

Oshwah is the powers that be, see the congratulations on his recent adminship above! But he doesn't seem to be online right at this moment, so I've blocked the IP for 31 hours. Bishonen | talk 17:21, 31 August 2016 (UTC).
Awesome! Thank you, Bishonen, for taking care of that. I'm sorry that the user started trolling up your talk page, Sbrianhicks. If it makes you feel better, my talk page gets trolled, vandalized, and trashed up pretty much daily, and multiple times. On a side note, be careful with responses such as this. Even if it doesn't encourage the user to harass and troll you more, it certainly gives him a full stomach and with food he likes. :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 18:55, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
Bishonen, thanks! I didn't look at Oshwah's page or talk page before I added that, but yeah, it's very obvious he's an administrator now. As they used to say when I was middle school, "my bad." As far as me calling the vandal "sweetheart," who doesn't love a slight bit of sarcasm? I figured it was a good way to make him mad without being a dick. I mean I let him know I couldn't care less what he thought without actually being rude. However given that you have authority here, I should probably listen to you. So there will be less sarcasm from me. I actually don't have a whole lot of experience with interacting with other editors. I usually just make light edits to pages/correct simple errors as I read articles. And half the time people are dicks and revert serious edits and won't listen to my side, so I don't even bother arguing. So this came out of nowhere to me. Furthermore, from the way the guy was talking, I assumed he was a kid who is on the extreme right, happened to see my article and that I disagreed with his views, so felt like harrassing me. I generally won't put someone down or even explain dickery to someone who is under 16 or so, so I just let him know I didn't care and moved on.
Also, while I have you, how do I request to change my username, while keeping my userpage and contribution history? I've decided it's probably not a good idea to use my real name. Thanks! Sbrianhicks (talk) 02:49, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Sbrianhicks - Do not let the fact that I have administrator user rights lead you to believe that I hold any kind of "authority" at all. I was just giving you advice with dealing with trolls, as (coming from someone who deals with them daily), those responses will bite you in the butt -- they usually cause them to troll you more, forcing you to deal with more of their shenanigans :-). You can request a user name change here. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! :-D ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 02:54, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Well, you can ban people, sounds like authority to me! But really, I usually have contempt for people with authority, so you should feel special. Special, darnit! And thanks for the help with the name change. I just realized I have no idea what to call myself ... And the code you use to display your username is really complicated. Sbrianhicks (talk) 03:05, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
Me again with a different account name. I had my original account renamed, but now I can't login. It says my password is incorrect. What's going on? BrianSHicks (talk) 16:58, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
BrianSHicks - I see nothing on your (former?) account that would prevent you from logging into it. I think you might have forgotten your password. Did you register an email with the account? Did you try recovering it? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 17:08, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
I'm sure the password is right, but it's telling me it's wrong. I will try recovering it. It won't allow me to do so now because I tried a password reset and it says I'm only allowed to do so once in 24 hours. BrianSHicks (talk) 00:54, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

When dealing with socks of Incorrigible Troll (the one who creates accounts containing "...is my homeboy"), please disable talk page access and email access because they will try and appeal. —MRD2014 (talk) (contribs) 20:52, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
