The Amerivision Song Contest 2008 was the fifty-third edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU), host broadcaster Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation (CBC TV 8). The edition was hosted in the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium, in Bridgetown, Barbados, as the country earned the right to host the event by winning the previous edition.
Host picking
[edit]Three barbadian venues showed interest in hosting the contest, all of them located in the city of Bridgetown, therefore Bridgetown was already confirmed as the host city of the contest as soon as the list of shortlisted bids was revealed, with two bids being shortlisted: The Garfield Sobers Gymnasium and Kensington Oval ones. The latter required the construction of a roof for the venue to be eligible, so the latter was selected to host the contest while the Kensington Oval aired a public showing of the contest, later where the votes of the barbadian televote were revealed.
