The Amerivision Song Contest 2000 was the fourty-fifth edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU), host broadcaster Canal de las Estrellas. The edition was hosted in the Centro de Convenciones Copacabana, in Acapulco, Mexico, as the winning country of the 2000 edition, Guadeloupe, refused to host the event as the country didn't have a suitable venue for hosting the contest, the offer then, was made to the runner up of the edition, Mexico, that accepted to host the event.
This was the first edition where all participating nations successfully switched to televote, in this and future editions, jury only used in the case of an emergency.

Relegations
[edit]Barbados, Costa Rica, Netherlands Antilles and the U.S. Virgin Islands returned to the contest, while Bermuda and Guyana withdrew. This edition also saw the debut of Honduras.
This edition saw a record breaking number of relegations, in total, five nations got relegated, those being Belize, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Uruguay and Venezuela
