The Amerivision Song Contest 1999 was the fourty-fourth edition of the annual Amerivision Song Contest, organised by the American Broadcasting Union (ABU), host broadcaster Televisión Nacional de Chile (TVN). The edition was hosted in the Coliseo La Tortuga, in Talcahuano, Chile, as the country earned the right to host the event by winning the previous edition. Despite the arena being located in Talcahuano, official branding announced the host city in the neighboring city, Concepción.
The televote was significantly expanded for this edition, this time, Bermuda, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela also got access to the televote.
This edition is notable for being the first edition where the final result of the contest ended in a tie, as both the entries from Guadeloupe and Mexico ended with 167 points, in the end, the Guadeloupe entry was crowned winner as the tiebreaker rule said that the country that recieve the most 12 points from the jury won, and Guadeloupe recieved seven, while Mexico recieved four.

Relegations
[edit]The relegation system was slightly expanded for this edition, now, the last five editions are used to calculate the average of points for the contestants.
Bermuda and Ecuador returned to the contest, while Barbados, Costa Rica and El Salvador withdrew. This edition also saw the debut of Guyana.
This edition saw the relegation of Guatemala, Martinique and Panama.
