2025 Minneapolis municipal election

← 2021 November 4, 2025 (2025-11-04) 2029 →

A general election will be held in Minneapolis on November 4, 2025. Minneapolis's mayor will be up for election as well as all the seats on the City Council, the two elected seats on the Board of Estimate and Taxation, and all the seats on the Park and Recreation Board. Voters are able to rank up to three candidates for each office in order of preference.

Mayor

[edit]

Incumbent Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) Mayor Jacob Frey is up for re-election to a third term among a field of candidates.

City Council

[edit]

All 13 seats on the Minneapolis City Council will be up for election. Each resident of Minneapolis can elect one city councilor in a single-member district. This is the first time council members are elected for a full 4-year term since 2017; due to census redistricting, the past two elections have been for 2-year terms. The most recent council election was in 2023.

Park and Recreation Board

[edit]

All nine seats on the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board will be up for election: one from each of the six park districts, and three that serve at-large.[1] The district and at-large members are elected using ranked choice voting; all voters will be asked to rank their top choices for their district and for at-large members.[2]

Board of Estimate and Taxation

[edit]

The two elected seats on the Board of Estimate and Taxation are up for election. Winners will be elected from one citywide, at-large district via the single transferable vote.
