Overview
[edit]For those who aren't sure what this is about: The Arbitration Committee is part of the Wikipedia dispute resolution process. In fact, ArbCom is pretty much the last stop. For a general real world analogy, ArbCom is sort of like the Supreme Court of Wikipedia. The arbitrators don't make decisions on article content, but they do issue rulings on complex disputes relating to user conduct, and they have considerable authority within the wiki-culture. Members of the Committee are usually elected for two-year terms (sometimes one or three), with a new batch elected each year.
In September 2021, an RfC took place concerning the format of the 2021 elections, at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Arbitration Committee Elections December 2021.
Candidates are self-nominating from November 7 to 16, and the voting period will run from November 23 to December 6. For details on voting eligibility, see the 2021 election page.
For this 2021/2022 cycle, there are eight empty seats, for candidates who will be elected for either a one-or two-year term. For details on required percentage of support, check here.
My standards
[edit]This page that you are reading contains my (Elonka's) thoughts on the current crop of ArbCom candidates. My general standards for a candidate are:
- Admin access
- Integrity
- Experience with article-writing
- Time-available for the project
- Hands-on knowledge of the dispute resolution processes.
I am also a strong supporter of civility, as I believe that rude behavior on the project can drive away other editors, and I would hope that ArbCom would help support that view; however, I also understand that not everyone has the same feelings about civility, so I am willing to support arbitrator candidates for other reasons than just that one.

Candidates
[edit]- Voting runs from November 23 – December 6, 2021.
- Banedon (talk · contribs · count · logs · block log · lu · rfa · rfb · arb · rfc · lta · socks) • statement • questions
- Oppose. Candidate should run for administrator first, before arbitrator.
- Beeblebrox (talk · contribs · count · logs · block log · lu · rfas · rfb · arb · rfc · lta · socks) • statement • questions
- Support. Previous arbitrator. Checkuser, trusted member of the community.
- Cabayi (talk · contribs · count · logs · block log · lu · rfas · rfb · arb · rfc · lta · socks) • statement • questions
- Weak Support. Administrator since March 2020, this is their first time running for arbitrator. Has experience with sockpuppet investigations. Doesn't appear to have much article-writing experience, doesn't appear to have worked on a Featured or even Good article. But I'm still willing to support.
- Donald Albury (talk · contribs · count · logs · block log · lu · rfas · rfb · arb · rfc · lta · socks) • statement • questions
- Support. Longtime Wikipedian, Administrator since 2006, this is their first time running for arbitrator. Lots of article-writing experience, as well as experience with dispute resolution.
- Enterprisey (talk · contribs · count · logs · block log · lu · rfas · rfb · arb · rfc · lta · socks) • statement • questions
- Weak oppose. Administrator since 2019, this is their second time trying for arbitrator (2019). I posted a "Weak oppose" then, citing lack of experience with dispute resolution and content work, though Enterprisey does have a lot of experience with technical scripts and bots. This doesn't appear to have changed much, still does not appear to have much in the way of content work, no Featured or Good articles, and is not very active on the project, only a couple hundred edits per year.
- Guerillero (talk · contribs · count · logs · block log · lu · rfas · rfb · arb · rfc · lta · socks) • statement • questions
- Support. Previous arbitrator. Checkuser, trusted member of the community. Excellent article-writing experience. Some concerns about time-available.
- Izno (talk · contribs · count · logs · block log · lu · rfas · rfb · arb · rfc · lta · socks) • statement • questions
- Support. Has been on the project since 2007, and Administrator since 2019, though this is their first time running for arbitrator. Is a mod on the Wikimedia Discord server. Could probably help with bots, has a fair bit of technical expertise. In terms of dispute resolution, they've been on ANI and AIV, and have a smattering of edits in other parts of the project, from AfDs to sockpuppet investigations, but not much in the arbitration areas. I wish Izno did have more experience of what it's like to be in the thick of an arbitration case before running for arbitrator, but on balance, I see enough other good qualities in order to support.
- Opabinia regalis (talk · contribs · count · logs · block log · lu · rfas · rfb · arb · rfc · lta · socks) • statement • questions
- Support. Previous arbitrator, trusted member of the community
- Thryduulf (talk · contribs · count · logs · block log · lu · rfas · rfb · arb · rfc · lta · socks) • statement • questions
- Support. Previous arbitrator. Oversight access, trusted member of the community. I don't agree with all of Thryduulf's opinions, but so what? I don't care if an arb always agrees with me, more I care if they're able to think carefully about a controversial situation, and also be able to show equal care in explaining their thought process. Thryduulf has my support.
- Worm That Turned (talk · contribs · count · logs · block log · lu · rfas · rfb · arb · rfc · lta · socks) • statement • questions
- Support. Previous arbitrator. Checkuser, bureaucrat access, trusted member of the community, strong candidate
- Wugapodes (talk · contribs · count · logs · block log · lu · rfas · rfb · arb · rfc · lta · socks) • statement • questions
- Support. Administrator since Jan 2020, this is their first time running for arbitrator. Has content-writing experience.
