On my user page I am trying to get it so that my minor links can be in a collapsable box like the one's you have on your page. Whenever you hit hide it hides everything on the page but I just want it to close my minor links. Do you know how to fix this? Please reply on my talk page. Jesus

I recently found that the Jesus article on Wikipedia is the first item that comes up when you search for "Jesus" on the world’s most widely used search engine, Google.

Please edit the Jesus article to make it an accurate and excellent representation of Him.

The Jesus article may be a person’s first impression of Jesus. It would be nice if their first impression was from a Christian or the Bible, but for so many in these new days it probably comes from the Internet. Watch the Jesus page to keep it focused on Him. Thanks a lot.

Also, watch out to follow Wikipedia's Policies and guidelines. It is especially hard for the Three-revert rule and the Neutral point of view policy to be followed because of the nature of the article, but please follow these policies along with citing sources so that the article does not get locked from editing and can't be improved further. Tata Sky

I inserted a useful link on comparison of different DTH players in India in the 'External links' section which another user has been reverting continously or changing it with another link calling it vandalism. My purpose is simply to enhance the usefulness of the article with a useful link for other readers that I found on a blog.

I was tracking the article to ensure that he does not revert/change my external links everytime. He did it again and when I reverted back his edit, you have reverted it back to his version calling my edit a spam/vandalism. Why is it so? If you will notice, i reverted to a version before any of the edits began when neither of the links are there. A link to a blog is probably not a good idea as it is not a reilable source of information. If the other user adds the links, I will remove them as well. Template location

Yeah, I was wondering about that, I'm ashamed to say it took me a very, very long time to figure out how to do it - until I saw Template:Douglas airliners under the "See also" heading of the aircontent thing and went "d'oh!". :-) Now that I know how to do it I'll work on fixing 'em as they turn up. Also just added Template:Douglas aircraft to the X-3 Stiletto, so that's done (for now, anyway) - whew! Need to add the D-558-1 and D-558-2 to the X-planes template but that's a job for after lunch. :-) - Aerobird 16:06, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

ISBN Correction

Hi Chris, thanks for the note on the Franklin, VA page. I am one of a handful of editors correcting over 2000 ISBN errors. The one in question comes up as short, not incorrect. Many isbn's show up that way. We have been correcting these so that a system robot can them convert them to the new 13 digit isbn's. I would appreciate your efforts to locate the proper 10 digit number. You can edit it in or give it to me and I'll load it. The bot that found the error in the first place, SMACKbot, left a template so citing the error. Once you fix the error, the template needs to be removed along with the "Cannot locate" statement. Then the error flag will go away. I am using some fairly powerful resources and could not locate the isbn. I did find OCLC codes. As a last resort, we probably would have dropped the bad ISBN and loaded the OCLC #. Thanks for the msg.Ekotkie 21:25, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Chris, as EdJ (another person in the ISBN correction business)has indicated, OCLC can be found right here on Wikipedia. The term, Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) comes from a library cataloging function. In many ways it is the system of choice within the world of Librarians. (I happen to be married to one and she just shakes her head at ISBNs and is also on a Wiki page) When you check your local library on this errant ISBN on the "Timber Tycoon" you will probably find that they also have additionally listed the OCLC along with an appropriate ISBN. I suspect that what has happened is that this is a limited production book dedicated to that area in VA. I was able to locate it with an OCLC #. Thank you for your gracious award. I'm just trying to help out the system and get that final roll over to the 13 digit system finished. By the way. I meant to explain a bit more on that number of yours being "short". What I have found is that a lot of our errant ISBN's seem to experience either the leading or trailing number to be missing and the bot merely marks it as "short". I took a look at his contributions. My take is they probably are generally good faith, but a lot of them are extremely ill advised. The message to Jimmy Wales' talk page and the repeated edits to the Template:Wdefcon are particularly unfortunate. I can see why any admin would consider this malicious. I would likely have blocked him for disruption, though perhaps not indefinitely.

The best way forward would be a polite email to user:Winhunter, the blocking admin. If you, or another editor, were willing to mentor Fattdoggy and ensure he doesn't make similar mistakes in the future, I believe this would be help. If you do take this on, be aware that you would be to some extent accountable for Fattdoggy's edits, so you need to be sure that you want to take that on and that Fattdoggy agrees. Greek Life Template 2.0

OK, I've added ratings and ranking to the proposed template for Fraternities and Sororities, with the requirements to be found on the appropriate page. We're waiting on a transparent picture; is there anything else to be done to this template? I'd like to give it another week or so before making it an official template. Timber Tycoons

Hi, according to Amazon (ASIN B000JF398Q, ASIN B0007395WY , ASIN B000J9Y6L6) it is published by Southampton County Historical Society, Southampton County Historical Society, and Wiliam Byrd Press respectivly. The same goes for Abebooks. I would suspect that Southampton County Historical Society is the publishers and WBP the printers. As for the ISBN, 87-063258 is clearly not one. Possibly, if this was part of a series it may be an ISSN - ISSN 8706-3258. It is also possible that the book was published by two organisations simultaneously. Aviation-terminology-stub

Hi - it has come to our notice that you have recently created a new stub type. As it clearly states at WP:STUB, at the top of most stub categories, on the template page for new Wikiprojects and in many other places on Wikipedia, new stub types should be proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and whether better use could be made of a WikiProject-specific talk page template.

In the case of your new stub type, it appears to be a reasonable split IMO, but standard naming would be for aviation-term-stub, not aviation-terminology-stub. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there aabout its creation. And please, in future, propose new stub types first! Many thanks for the barnstar, and for the kind words. To be honest, the stub creation procedure is meant to be a tiny bit off-putting, just to stop the huge number of ridiculous stub types that have been made over the last couple of years. By the way, i have moved the template {{Aviation-terminology-stub}} to {{Aviation-term-stub}}, changed all of the articles tagged with the previous to the latter. I am not familiar with what needs to be done to delete the old stub type. Does it qualify for speedy deletion or does it need to go through a formal stub type for deletion?

Rating of importance

Hello, Chris. I would like to know on what basis you gave DO-254 low importance. Do you know it's the standard used for development of most avionics in (non-military) aircrafts today? I think it deserves at least a "mid" importance. The similar topic DO-178B, which is for software in aircrafts, should probably have the same importance as DO-254. Keep up your great work! Just a few comments (I withdrew my objection):

1. There r some newspaper articles, but I dont like newspapers too much (they dont get the numbers right sometimes)...
2. I think the "global concept of aircraft" shall be based on (and depends on) a sane (not necessarily prussianly strict; intuition may be as good as computer-like sobriety; but what we see in this BAL/DHL accident is too chaotic for my taste) set of rules.

Deleting Comparison of IRC clients

I have removed your PD template from this article. Your reason for deleting it seemed condense to me, and I don't really understand why you think the article is "Not a product comparison" (quote from memory, please correct if it's very wrong). It contains a fair amount of tables comparing features amongst different IRC clients, most if not all of which have their own Wikipedia articles, and are well known and used by thousands of people in a lot of cases (notably MIRC, X-Chat and Irssi). So I don't really see how the page is original research, or self-promotion (as it is a comparison with only factual information listed). I apologize in advance for not being a frequent visitor (even though I have a user account), so it may take some time for me to reply to you here or on the article's talk page (wherever you feel fit to continue discussion if you deem that necessary). Aircraft specification template

Hi Chris,

While editing the Short Seamew specifications I have come across something that may need to be catered for: height/width for carrier aircraft with wings folded for storage. I have added these two specs to the Seamew by interposing a "* line"; this looks sort of ok but messes up the preceding entry: the closing round bracket of the alt-dimension comes after the interposed line in both cases. Is there a clean way of inserting such lines into the template without messing it up? Many thanks. TraceyR 20:42, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Supplementary comments: it would also be useful to have a specification parameter for wing sweep (in degrees) (see Short Sherpa's recent history); the Short SB/5 had three different setting for sweep during its life; could this situation also be catered for? Perhaps a "minimum sweep" and "maximum sweep" would be good for e.g. the F-111 and other variable geometry wings. I realise that these suggestions add to the complexity of the template, but they would be useful. Thanks for your contribution here! TraceyR 01:03, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Just for reference. Here is my reply.

I have reviewed the dif here. What it looks like is there was a large, cited section, that was removed. I have read the article and the information may have been redundant, but the citations were not. Removing that section without moving the citations to the other section left the information on that topic unreferenced, and therefore subject to more scrutiny, and having the possibility of being removed. I have no problem with the removal, just along as the remaining materials get cited. If you would like any help with this, please let me know on my User talk page, and my apolagies on the warning, (Which I have removed). JSBSim

Greetings. As to your proposal to delete the JSBSim article due to it being a "Not notable open source project". I beg to differ (of course, I am biased :). JSBSim is the default flight model for FlightGear, has been recently incorporated into the OpenEaagles framework, and is used around the world by students and industry. It is perhaps the only open source flight model library, and was the first to use XML to describe aircraft models for flight simulation. The chief architect (that would be me) has spent the past 10 years coordinating an international group of developers on the project. Developing advanced flight simulations for space launch vehicles and doing ascent trajectory analysis is also my "day job".

If you could be more specific as to how you would like to see the article improved, I might be able to make time to do that. If you have other questions about JSBSim, feel free to ask me. Thank you for your comments on my RFA. As of now, I do not care about the outcome of it, I did not even ask to be nominated. I however would like to clear up a misunderstanding. I at no point claim that I plan on using reversion tools to handle content disputes. I made a mistake on RC patrol, and reverted a good faith edit as vandalism. That is what I am claiming will happen again in the future. I am human and I make mikstakes. If I were to say, "I will never accidently revert a good faith edit as vandalism again," as good as it would make me sound, I would be lying to myself and everybody else. If that makes me unfit to be an administrator, that I will have no problem withdrawing my RFA. To be honest, I am a little frustrated with it currently because it seems like a vote. So many, Supports per nom. I think those are people just perusing RFA's and going with the flow. I have much more respect for Oppose nominations (especially ones with a good explanation as to why, such as yours). You are an administrator that I have seen around alot, and have respect for. Do you personally reccomend that I withdraw my RFA, due to thisRC patrol mistake?. It is impossible to state "I will never accidentally do something again". How can you know? All you have to do is pledge to never use your rollback tool for anything other than vandalism reverts. The problem was not that you misused the java tool, and you accepted that it was a mistake. My issue is that you outright stated 'I'll probably make the same mistake again' - you should not. It is not a complex issue, and it's not a difficult judgement call to make. Don't use it for content disputes. Make sure an edit is vandalism before you use one of the tools to revert. The rule is in place as using a tool provides no edit summary, providing no clue as to why you reverted an edit. In the case of blatant vandalism, tere's no need, but if it's a good faith edit, it's now a content issue, so changes should be backed up by explanations. Your Deletion of my post

I posted information on a non-profit program, Dynamic Youth Community, that helps kids with drug problems , you deleted it for being too much like an advert.. What can I do to make it more "appropriate"? This was not a ploy to make money, simply a means to give information to parents that may need help with there kid's drug problem. Please respond.... The agency is definately notable. The federal government did a study on the agency..the result was a manual that sets the standard for how adolescents should be treated. Additionally, there was a book published with 11 exceptional programs including DYC...can i copy a chapter from this book if i credit the book as the source? I will try to put something together noting these references...thanks for your help. I am a graduate of this program who was lucky enough that my parents stumbled upon it. Many of my friends died before they found help...I just want to get the info out there...

Reference to B-36 and P-51 edit wars

Akradecki, in reference to your comment--obviously you think your way is the only way, and anyone elses does not matter and does not count. With that attitude, I think it violates working out to an argreement. I already stated why I believe the P-51 photograph should be left. The context of the subject matter. Is the P-51 used in airshows? Sure, but when was it made and when did it see military action for what it was designed to do? Used a military fighting aircraft in the skies of World War II, not paraded as an antique relic of a goneby era. Obviously you tend to think this matter is a closed and done deal discussion. Since you decided to change the photograph with a disucssion or dialogue of the matter, and the excuse that the photograph that was previously on the page was of "poor" quality. Is a poor judgement and reason for changing it. So who is right? Obivously you think you are, and vice versa.

In reference to the B-36 photograph, I've already made comments on the dicusssion page. Just a FYI, the United States Air Force owns and operates that museum. The photograph I provided is of better quality and better representation of the aircraft in lieu of Rogerd's photograph which he provided.
1. The image is at an angle
2. There is a spectator of the musem in the image
3. The quality of the photograph is poorer than the one I supplied and
4. The photograph I provide shows much more of the aircraft versus what he supplied which mainly focuses on the fuslage and not the entire subject matter

I looked through the edits of User:68.117.46.48 and particulary, this one I viewed as trying to make a valid addition to the article. While it may or may not have been, i sensed good faith here. Possible offended or feeling that he valid contribution was removed he viewed you as a vandal (which you of course are not). Hope this helped! • The vandalism was restored [7] by 68.117.46.48, with an edit summary of "grammar fix" 4 hours later in that IP's 2nd edit ever.
• The edit was reverted [8] by me 7 hours later. I also post a "test" on the IP's talk page.
• The vandalism was restored [9] by 216.41.144.41 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), with an edit summary of "get a life and stop trolling wikipedia, After Midnight" 22 minutes later in that IP's only edit ever.

• The vandalism was restored [12] by 68.117.46.48, with an edit summary of "rv" 30 minutes later in that IP's 4th edit ever.

• Lucy-marie requests page protection at the proper page.

The Acts of Parliament in the UK are always refered to as the Such and Such Act, Date as there may be more than one with the same name. I see what you mean by your first example; that IP's final warning had been a long time ago. As for the "one you just noticed," well, that IP had received so many warnings in the past, I figured it simply needed to be blocked. The original warning

The original warning was inflamatory as it basically branded me an idiot by saying i did not know how to use wikipedia. That is why it was removed and I would not remove a warning i did not find inflamatory and thought was justified. Range blocks

Chris, yes you can range block IPs, although I've never done it myself. The documentation is found at Wikipedia:Blocking_IP_addresses#Blocking_ranges which has links to the details. As that page warns, exercise caution when doing this - in particular it should probably be a "soft" block - i.e. make sure you enable account creation so that IP users can create accounts for themselves. Thanks for taking care of that IP. I'm not clear as to why we have been targeted, I think it's that guy who kept trying to add his myspace page to the article. He called C-Span the other day and tried to direct traffic to his myspace by saying there was a link at RFK's wikipedia article. I know how AIV works. Did you even look at his contribs and talk page? He's done nothing but vandalism, which he obviously knows is wrong. There's no point putting a up a warning. Also, the comment on his talk page about him improving the Cotton Gin article is incorrect, that was actually another IP user, this user replaced Eli Whitney with Ron Jeremy. You'll notice, however, that after you warned him, he was blocked before he had a chance to vandalize more (four minutes between his vandalism of Zachary Taylor and Martin Van Buren). I am aware of dynamic and shared IPs, however the vandalism in the contribs is very consistant, and grounds for banning even if it were multiple people. Help Request

Hi Chris. This is not aviation-related, but I am having a problem with some IP users on the Atlanta Braves page. They keep making changes (described at Talk:Atlanta Braves), but will not engage in discussion at all. THe last user, User:146.74.1.99, has made the last two changes (today and Jan 31), and has a history of vandalism on his contributions page (including self-described page blankings).

I have asked for discussion in every revert of these chenges,a nd opened a discussion on the talk pge, but so far no one has even responded. Because of the multiple IPs used, I havent tried to contact the users directly on the matter, but I have left 2 warnings on the last IP user's page.

I have considered asking for help on the Baseball Project page, but even if this is a difference of interpretation, the users are using disruptive tactics, so I did not feel this would really help. User 216.109.5.50 has been banned 3 times in 3 weeks.

6 days ago he/she had the following warning:

"Regarding edits made during 2007-01-29 (UTC) to French Revolution Please stop. If you continue to vandalize pages, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia."

Sure, he/she was subsequently blocked for further vandalism, but within 1 day after coming back, he/she then vandalised Rocket again.

But that warning still stands, so the user has been recently warned, the fact that he was blocked afterwards is not in the wikipedian rules as a disqualifying condition. It's not like the user can go 'I never knew it was against the rules to vandalise!' Exactly where does it say there has to be at least one warning per block? Question about not blocking 195.194.144.2

Chrislk02, thanks for your comment on my talk page clarifying the policy on blocking IP addresses. I appreciate that it's quite likely that the vandals using 195.194.144.2 are different people at different times. That said, quite a lot of vandalism comes from that IP. For example, of the 18 contributions from 1st February to now, I count two that aren't vandalism / rubbish. Would a block on anonymous contributions not be appropriate in this situation? I use disruptive edits and vandalism interchangeably. To me they are the same thing, and are not in good faith. If there is a better term that fits here, please tell me, but it's not a mere content dispute. I have attemped to cover both views of the issue in dispute, but the IP user still removes them. He won't discuss it at all, what else can I do but treat this as vadalism? This user has used at least 5 separate IP addresses, so it's impossible to actually try to talk with him. I have tried to discuss things on the article talk page, but he refuses to communicat, or even accept compromises. And now CBD is insulting me by acting like I am engaging in a mere revert war, as if I haven't tried to communicate at all! I have, and the disruptive edits have continued. What else can we do here short of semi-protecting the page?

To be honest, I don't know how much longer I will continue to edit on Wikipedia if things do not change. As long as unregistered users are allowed to edit, this garbage will continue. It is getting to the point where it's not worth the trouble. THe WP:AIR project is pretty good, but I am fed up with editing non-aviation articles. I feel ya, it can be frustrating. That is one of the major controveries on wikipedia is whether anons can edit. However, there is a fine line between good faith but bad content edits and blatant vandalism. I myself am guilty of calling some good faith edits (they hmay have been in bad taste but nontheless good faith) edits vandalism. When i started here, my edits may have been seen as vandalism because I did not know any better. That is why so much care is often taking in protecting anons vs named editors. An anon can convert to a named editor that may become a major contributor. The trick is, learning how to appeal to new editors and get them involved in a friendly manner. Hope this has helped some! As to the article in question, I really beleive this is someone acting in bad faith, though I have no concrete proof of it. I am basing this on the style of edits, and the fact that he changes all attempts to compromise, and won't communicate. I actually went back and created the article more appropriatley based on that link. If you look at the hidden comments (added by the creating editor), it gave the location they got the information from and explained it was there first article. Re. speedy deletion

Hello Chris. Thanks for telling me about this admin hang-on template. I've never seen anything of the kind. Although I think that it might be a good idea, I can't think of a workable solution for such template. Any user, especially the creator of an SD candidate, could place the admin hang-on template thereby tricking admins and hindering the whole deletion process. Deletion of Kitty Cottage wikipedia page

I created a wikipedia site a few weeks ago for a local cat shelter called the Kitty Cottage in Blue Bell, PA. Could you please help me understand why this site was deleted? I felt that I did a good job of linking to other wikipedia pages and giving full information. Other local pet shelters from around the U.S. have their own wikipedia pages, so I don't understand why another such page would not be acceptable.

The article was written like an advertisement. It also did not assert why your cat shelter was more notable than the cat shelter down the road. There were also very few, if any third party reliable sources citing the article as well as you may have a Conflict of interest in the creation of this article. These are all very important when writing an article for wikipedia. If you feel that the article can be written in a manner that does not read like an advertisement with reilable third party sources asserting why this shelter is notable and have it written from a Neutral point of view, it would possible not get deleted. A, i already reverted them. B, that was probably on ok palce to report them, they were on a roll. There are a couple of things that should have been done though. They should have ben warned with one of the series of spam templates {{spam1}}, {{spam2}}, {{spam3}} or {{spam4}} (which i did warn them with and they did not stop). Also, there username could violate WP:USERNAME which could be reported to WP:RFCN. Poorly referenced articles

The poverty article included some awful references (blockquote inside a reference?) that I have since cleaned up. However I also notice that many "references" are simply links to other wiki pages. Leave a note on the talk page regarding it. Remove the refs to other wikipedia articles (make sure to reference this in the edit summary or it may accidently getreverted). Finally, being the article will no longer have references (And did not have proper references) add the {{Unreferenced}} tag to the top! Sorry to be cryptic. Headphonos started an ANI about Ensyc after a failed AIV he posted against Ensyc. My sense is that rather than Ensyc being the vandal, Headphonos is the subtle vandal for the various reasons/links I listed at the ANI. So, my putting info in Headphonos' ANI post is like a reverse-ANI. The simple approach for admins noticing this ANI thread may be to close the ANI with whatever the appropriate response is regarding Ensyc. A more complicated approach may be to look at Headphonos' history (both what I have posted and what you may know from your own experience in other arenas such as aviation related topics) and issue some response to Headphonos. The edits and diffs I post in the ANI should give you what you need from my perspective. I could post them again here if that would be easier on your computer. I posted to your talk since I link to your talk page in my ANI material. Plus, another interested party suggested I feel welcome giving you a heads-up like I gave them. How do you feel about repetitive removal of well placed tags by other editors, without any change to the article? That is probably the most frequent, blatant, breach of policy IMO. Improper use of dispute tags

Dispute tags are an important way for people to show that there are problems with the article. Do not remove them unless you are sure that all stated reasons for the dispute are settled. As a general rule, do not remove other people's dispute tags twice during a 24 hour period. Do not place dispute tags improperly, as in when there is no dispute, and the reason for placing the dispute tag is because a suggested edit has failed to meet consensus. Instead, follow WP:CON and accept that some edits will not meet consensus. Please note that placing or removal of dispute tags does not count as simple vandalism, and therefore the reverting of such edits is not exempt from the three-revert rule. My Review

Here is what I see. In regards to the article on Bully Kutta. There are 2 links provided which are disputed as references. The one] is an pretty godo source i would trust. the other has no content and should not be listed as a reference. This oculd go either way based on the reference provided. I would tend to accept them and not challenge the valditiy of the references however. However, there is one section that appears to be originial research without the information in the article corresponding to the source. As best I can tell, it is a special interest forum seeking funds to keep itself up and running. Anyone can set up a site like this and there are thousands on the internet. IMO, user forums are not reliable references - and in most cases where this site is used, it is the only reference, which makes it particularly suspicious. The test for me is that the content presented for the obscure, rare breeds highlighted above is that it is not found anywhere else. I respect your opinion, and honestly, I am still reseraching the issue. I took a prelim look, and preliminarily it appears as though it may house some valid information. Is it the best source available, i will agree it is not. However, i do believe that the dog may be encylopedic. I am still looking around for some other sources, see what information is out there. (i dont know alot about dogs, actually my girlfriend and i are kind of at odds over the dog thing because I am a cat person myself). Hi. Perhaps you can give me guidance on this. At West Highland White Terrier, I am currently trying to protect the article in its consensually applied state, however I have an anonymous IP user who is making sweeping edits (removals not additions), and will not enter into discussion at the article talk page, nor leave an edit summary explaining why he/she has done this?

I know that there is a "three reverts and out" rule in Wikipedia, and I am afraid I will be reaching this point unless I call it vandalism. I actually don't think it is, but I cannot get a response of any kind from the person.

I really don't get it. Special:Contributions/125.164.161.204 / Special:Contributions/125.164.161.33 are doing several things wrong. For one, they're mostly removing content from certain articles, placing a category that doesn't exist yet over one that does, and adding wierd categories like "domestic animals" and "Dragon Ball villains" that don't even exist. In all seriousness, I suggest a soft block for each one (including the ones that are likely from the same block) because most of the edits were redlinks that I specifically told them not to do, and yet, they deliberately did it as following each other's examples. THEY DID MORE HARM THAN GOOD. It was really annoying reverting almost everyhing hey did using popups. Let this be a way of teaching them a lesson. The wikipedia blocking policy specifically states, "Blocking is how administrators prevent a user account or IP address/range from editing Wikipedia. Blocks are used to prevent damage or disruption to Wikipedia and should not be used as a punitive measure". If I block that IP address, how do I know that the next person who comes along, 10 hours after the last edit, is the same person? I dont. I could block that IP, and an interested individual tries to edit an article he sees a mistake in, and gives up. The evidence you provided shows that is more than likley a shared or dynamic IP address. Blocking it would be pointless at this point and would teach nobody a lesson. I think the answer is: a Wikipedian was nominated for adminship in December by a non-admin, it failed. They were nommed by an admin < two months later and they passed! Countries you've visited

I just noticed the flags on your user page under the heading "Countries I have been in". I ought to point out that if you're showing the flags of England and Scotland, you shouldn't be showing the UK flag. Pedantry perhaps, but to put it in a US context, it would be like me showing, under 'countries' I've visited, the Stars and Stripes and then the flags of Virginia, California and Hawaii (which of course has a UK flag at the top). I kind of look at it as a good thing! I am making enough of an impression that people have a problem with me. I personally dont have a problem with it! (It actually makes me feel that my effors on wikipedia do not go unnotices (which i am sure all of us feel from time to time)). The same goes for userpage vandalism. I feel that when my userpage gets vandalized, it means i am doing a good job! Rock music Wikiproject invitation

Hello WikiProject Metal member.
WikiProject Metal music is important in expanding encyclopedic coverage of the metal. It brings attention to the lesser-known bands, and significantly improves the quality of the famous ones. Five Featured articles and two formers is proof of that.

Thanks. Can you take a look at ASCII comic for me please? Grue added the Nerd Boy information to this article.[25]. Nerd Boy was originally deleted after this Afd discussion. Grue has since recreated Nerd Boy as a redirect, which seems to be circumventing the process to me. The Nerd Boy information in the ASCII comic article is bigger than the article was previously. I did remove the information from the ASCII article and list the redirect for speedy deletion, but Grue has reverted my changes, and I don't want to start reverting an administrator, but it doesn't seem quite right to me. Before I get too far into this. Have you expressed your concernts to the administrator in question? They often make mistakes, may think it was closed as redirect instead of delete or have rationalization behind there decision. Greetings and thanks for the welcome on my talk page. I'm actually a regular on a non-wikipedia wiki, but new to the wikipedia world. I post with my RealName on my other wiki, but since my Wikipedia interest is non-work related, I made a sockpuppet (Shhh!). I have what I consider good reason though - I wouldn't want people thinking my wiki posts relect some kind of professional opinion. Take your time. You might also consider that the delete votes came from users who have not edited the Jeopardy! article and have not be involved in the spinning-off of some of its material onto other pages, whereas the keep votes came from editors who have been involved with the discussions and decision-making on the Category:Jeopardy! family of articles. First off, your claims that the keep votes are from people involved in the article greatly weakn your argument for overturning this. Please remeber that an afd is not a vote, and I did not view this particular one as a vote. I had some dificulty closing it but after reviewing each sides arguments and taking all things into account, I felt the consensus was to delete. Here is why.

1. Mango juice has a pretty good nom coupled with a Delete as well as counters arguments well in policy. To me, this discounts a keep !vote.
2. You, by your own admission, state that the keep votes have a Conflict of Interest in this issue due to there involvement in the Jeopardy! article, and the categories associated with it. This also discounts the !keep votes.
3. Reywas' Strong Keep does not have a good policy based argument behind it so, I see it as a Keep. As well, Andy SaundersStrong keep, but clean up does not address the issues originiall posed by the nominator as well as the opposers.
4. If i were counting it as a vote, there are 5 Deletes including the nom. 3 Keeps and 2 Merges. Looking at these numbers, it may appears as if there is no consensus however, I saw that the majority of wikipedia editors that have no apparent conflict of interest were either for Delete or Merge as were mostly based in policy and other concerns often expressed in relation to trivia sections. The Keep arguements did not address the concerns that it was an indiscriminate and unsourced collection yet based there argument on the fact that the information in this article was forked off to prevent unwiedly growth in the Jeopardy! article, and did not address any of the concerns related to the actual content. A user's having edited an article does not constitute a conflict of interest when the user contributes to a deletion discussion. Conversely, the users who called for the deletion of the article were unfamiliar with the article's history and the problems involved in trying to keep the Jeopardy! article down to size. To me (and to the others who said keep) the material was valuable, but was rightly spun off of the main article for size reasons. I disagree with and am disappointed by your decision. How to handle mirror sites?

Chris, I need advice. I came across 3 edits (SR-71 Blackbird here, F-117 Nighthawk here, and C-130 Hercules here) where a new editor, User:Sammy9990 added External links to his personal website which is essentially material taken directly from Wikipedia. I've reverted these, but haven't yet left a note for the editor. I vaguely recall something about how mirrors are supposed to be registered and the GFDL licensing must be included when material is used (I can't find anything like this on his site, [26], other than a statement that he has "permission"). I'm way behind on my admin coaching reading list (too busy actually editing!), so while I'm sure there's something in there I should know, I thought maybe you could advise on the best course on this? I'm a bit new to categories, and after looking through the help info I'm still not sure of the best way to proceed. I was thinking about creating a category for winners of the Laureus World Sports Awards, it would probably be one all encompassing category rather than seperate categories for each award, but I can do it the other way if you think it's better? There is currently a Category:Laureus World Sports Awards, which has five subpages. So would I create a new category (tentatively called Laureus World Sports Awards winners) as part of the existing category? If so, how do I create it as a sub-category? Thanks. With that large a gap and it being an anon IP, generally not. There generally needs to be clear evidence that it is the same person commiting the act of vandalism and a gap that large, especially if it is a school ip, is generally not a large enough gap. Thanks! I should point out that my AIV reports weren't always quite that precise – as you'll see if you look through my discussion archives, I had a number of complaints a while back. I was never that good at keeping track of what warning level a user had been given, and I was always reporting them at the wrong time. In the end, I modified my anti-vandalism software to keep track of warning levels itself – now I can't report a user unless it's satisfied they've had a final warning. This IP has been very abusive in the past and the contribution history does not suggest a shared IP at all. I encourage you to consider restoring the warnings to the talk page for now so that if trouble brews (which would not surprise me), admins and others new to this user will know the history. JonHarder's one of the easiest editors I know of to get along with -- this passing swipe at him should give you some sense of 66.93.251.114. and the extent to which he/she now may or may not be prepared to work civilly.

Amelia Earhart

Thanks for the offer to look into this dispute. The editor in question is Gwen Gale and the information you need to reference is the extensive discussion page on Talk:Amelia Earhart where in almost every discussion, there is an extensive discourse in which this editor engages. The most recent example is the challenge over whether Amelia Earhart can be considered an aviation "pioneer" which has been inextricably linked to an assessment of her flying abilities. Despite a number of concerns raised over the tenor of the debate as well as refusals to accept any refererenced sources that do not comply with her viewpoint, the editor in question has again reverted the introductory passage. Is a 50% vandal edit ratio acceptable from a shared IP?

Hi there Your reasonable point is that blocking an IP with a proportion of good edits would result in a loss of irreplaceable contributions while vandal edits can always be reverted. I suspect you may be right but I want to argue the other side with you.

• Vandal edits are not always reverted. Hardest to spot are unsourced valid sounding assertions or assertions with references to fake offline hard to verify sources (eg a reference to a non-existent paragrapgh in an out of print book.) Good faith editors wouldn't do this but an editor with a history of vandalism may.
  • This is true, however, with todays recent armies of RC patrollers it is difficult. The first thing i check when I get a Wp:AIV report is the contribs. I view all of them on top and see if they were vandalism and revert them all if necessary. However, some may slip through the cracks. The plus to this is, anybody can look through the edit historyu, find who added it and determine if it was an appropriate addition or not. I strongly disagree with the opinion that valid-sounding nonsense is reliably detected and removed, particularly for articles that deal with complex subjects. As an editor most of my work has been on articles where access to primary sources is limited (because you need to look them up in books) and the number of people interested in the topics is low compared with pop culture.     • Requiring a sign-up is a deterrent and I wouldn't advocate it for all IPs just those with a history of vandalism. Wikipedia's sign-up is the least onerous I have ever seen.
• A block is time-limited so good edits are only lost for a short period.
  • Where do you draw the time limit, 5 minutes, 10 minutes? what is appropriate. If we block too short editors get mad. if we block to long other admin get mad.     • It has to be longer than the average interval between vandal edits from that IP
• Wikipedia may have needed an extremely open approach when it was growing from nothing but now it has a huge database of good edits to protect. A single vandal edit can remove the valid contributions of a number of good editors.
  • And a single dedit cna bring it back. And, no matter what happens, in the history all good edits are still presevred and readily available to be reverted to. • Each new good edit has a value and that value is lost when a shared IP block prevents a good contribution. However each vandal edit requires a reversion and each reversion is time lost that otherwise could have been spent fixing a mistake, removing an unsourced assertion etc.

The EU have been represented at all meetings since 1977, that is a fact. The EU cannot actually join the G8, otherwise they would have. Instead they are represented at every meeting. A previous version of the page didn't make this clear, so it was amended to this version. Does it state the EU are members? No, but it still makes it clear they are represented, which is a fact and can therefore be included. This is the preferred version of several editors, and I as I said earlier the template and article need to be consistent. Lucy-marie has ignored repeated requests for her to inform all concerned parties before performing her "nobody has replied, therefore I have consensus" trick, and has repeatedly refused to do so. It is a change she wishes to make, therefore it isn't unreasonable for her to do so. Instead I get replies like this saying she doesn't have to because it isn't policy. Re:G8 disagreement

Perhaps the following information from OFFICIAL web pages will shed some light on this dispute. All of the information is easily available by following links from the appropriate Wikipedia articles.

The Official site for the 1998 Summit ([32]), under the heading "G8 Structure: an informal club" states that "The G8 is an informal organisation, with no rules or permanent Secretariat staff." (Meaning it has NO members.) From the title page, follow the link to Participating governments: ([33]) and you find a list of countries, and the European Commission.

The Official site for the 2001 Summit ([34]) clearly includes the EU flag at the top of the page. Following the Fact file link to [35] we can read that "Since 1975, the heads of state or government of the major industrial democracies have been meeting annually........ The six countries at the first Summit, held at Rambouillet, France in November 1975, were France, the United States, Britain, Germany, Japan and Italy. They were joined by Canada at the San Juan, Puerto Rico Summit of 1976, and by the European Community at the London Summit of 1977." (my emphasis).

On a related point, Lucy-marie has edited the following two pages (at least) to remove mention of the European Commission under the heading of "Leaders at the Summit": 24th G8 summit and 25th G8 summit. This is blatantly wrong even if the European Commission is not a member, since its leader WAS at the summits in question. Emeraude 22:17, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Im sorry I just find it easy to delete my posts after reading them that way it stands out if i have a message. I had read yours and i didnt need it after i read it so i deleted it.
