Hi, there is an article on Wiki that is full of hate and false statements that are not based on any evidence. Facts are mixed with false and such statements lead to ethnic hatred. Interesting question

Why did someone change Mustafa's birth date from 1592 to 1600? Please answer me. IgnacyPL (talk) 08:31, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

Yes IgnacyPL (talk) 18:06, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
@IgnacyPL: This is not a subject of which I have expertise sufficient to address the question, but I have initiated a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Turkey#Date of birth of Mustafa I, noting that at least one source in the article asserts a "c. 1591" date. Please continue the discussion there. BD2412 T 18:16, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

I'm going to begin the cleanup from closing the RM. I'm going to see how many I can get through. Because of your note, I'm going to leave this here, but I am going to leave a simplified version of {{old move}} on all the pages because of the sheer number of them:

{{Old move |date=15 August 2024 |result=move |link=Special:Permalink/1240809853#Requested move 15 August 2024}}

Kindly, Bobby Cohn (talk) 20:58, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

@Bobby Cohn: I think there's a way to get through large chunks of them at once, by constructing a move template with that instruction. BD2412 T 21:00, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Is it possible to create a substituting template that incorporates all of the correct parameters, without using a shorthand one that I've left above? Bobby Cohn (talk) 21:06, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
When you close an RM, it is possible to just have Wikipedia do all the work. Let me try something. BD2412 T 21:14, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
Ahh, sorry! Okay, I've stopped. I got through the list of those on the RM before seeing your comment here. My plan was to tackle the ones in the RM first before moving on to the ones listed in the associated category, so as to not populate the "malformed move requests" category at WP:RM. Bobby Cohn (talk) 21:18, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
I see you're working away. I might leave it to you for now so as to not introduce any edit conflicts, I'll check back in a little bit. Cheers, Bobby Cohn (talk) 21:23, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
@Bobby Cohn: Well, I created a fake RM for the unlisted proposed moves, and then closed it, but the dialogue asking whether I wanted to move the pages right away did not appear, and I am wondering whether that is a parameter issue, or the system itself can detect that it is a fake request (either because just filed rather than waiting a week, or no !votes). I can just AWB it, in a few hours. BD2412 T 21:30, 22 August 2024 (UTC)
@Bobby Cohn: Should be all done now. Cheers! BD2412 T 02:57, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

The Brilliant Idea Barnstar
I love a clever solution to a large problem, and that’s exactly what you found after a a move request would have resulted in over 300 manual page moves. Well done, and thanks for tackling the large list for me! Bobby Cohn (talk) 01:52, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
I appreciate the plaudit, but my brilliant idea didn't work, and I ended up brute-forcing it with AWB. Still faster than doing it manually, though. BD2412 T 12:30, 26 August 2024 (UTC)

[edit]

I had started a complaint at the ANI about a user accusing me of socking who was refusing to open a WP:SPI investigation against me. Some other editor went and merged my complaint with another complaint because the accusations were happening in the other complaint, and then encouraged another editor to put their own complaint inside of my complaint. Now nobody is even addressing the content of my original complaint?? Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Proposing_block_on_User:Symphony_Regalia. I cannot start a WP:SPI investigation on myself, can you? Can anyone? I really don't know what to do, there doesn't seem to be an avenue for clearing my name when the user refuses to use WP:SPI, I cannot start an investigation on myself, and everyone is focused on the other unrelated complaints that a user instructed another user to drop inside my complaint. @CNMall41: I don't see a G5 deletion in the logs. This was an expired prod (although it may have been PROD for G5 reasons). I will move it to draft for AFC review, as a reasonable precaution. BD2412 T 22:46, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
Maybe I did not look closely but it was created by this sock farm who now uses IP addresses in an attempt to game the system. Maybe it was an expired prod. Did you give Ancheta_Wis a barnstar for their page? They added it themselves rather than a user adding it. They also claim to be a former administrator but I couldn't find record of it. Ergzay (talk) 17:50, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

@Ergzay: Their RfA was Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Ancheta Wis. I did give them the barnstar, on their user talk page. It is fairly normal for editors to receive barnstars on their user talk and then copy them to a userspace page. BD2412 T 18:04, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
I see, thank you. The user in question constantly purges their talk page so it was hard to determine. Ergzay (talk) 18:07, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
The other reason I ask is a lot of their editing has been borderline disruptive through beyond excessive additions of sources to many pages, with multiple layers of embedded and circular referencing sources. For example this was one section of sources I purged. And when asked about it they refuse to respond. Ergzay (talk) 18:11, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
I nominated this editor for adminship 19 years ago, and gave them a barnstar 11 years ago. I have no insight into any current locus of dispute. BD2412 T 18:13, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

I'm not convinced this redirect is correct, and I actually brought it up at the 2015 AFD. According to the target article (which I'm admittedly taking at its word), this isn't a different name for the same firm, but a different one that split from it in 1980. —Cryptic 01:57, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

I would think that Steptoe LLP contains the most information that a reader is going to get on the subject, unless we have an article on Steptoe & Johnson PLLC. The exact relationship between the entities is a question of fact that will require some research, but if the only content in Wikipedia relevant to Steptoe & Johnson PLLC is its relationship with Steptoe LLP, then that is the logical place for the redirect to point. BD2412 T 02:04, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
Probably right, though {{R from longer title}} isn't the best. If any readers ever actually notice those, anyway, which I've never quite been convinced of.
Just stumbled on Draft:Steptoe & Johnson, btw, which is about the PLLC firm, and got rejected as a duplicate of the LLP firm. (Which was itself at Steptoe & Johnson for most of its history, so it's hard to blame the reviewer.) Certainly in better shape than the versions hiding behind that redirect. —Cryptic 02:41, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
The redirect template is my mistake, I have changed it to {{R from related topic}}. There should probably be a separate article on each firm, though. BD2412 T 02:52, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
