8th Generation

[edit]

the 8th generation has been deleted before twice already and has just been recreated and will likely be deleted again [1]

While I think this is no harm in having the article, recreating the article is the wrong approach while the event is so far into the future. When the time comes we can ask an administrator to dig up all the old versions of the article and we can add the updated information. In the mean time there are lots of things to do on

Enjoy. The article will unfortunately most likely be deleted soon so there is no need to leave it on this template.--E-Bod 02:28, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you but I'd hate for some strict and not so helpful Wikipedian to get to you all first--E-Bod 02:32, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well with Nintendo announcing that they are going to unveil the "Wii 2" in June, it might be best to get started in recreating the "8th Generation" page. Nhajivandi (talk) 14:32, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't the 8th generation begin in 2011 since the 3DS was released in 2011? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Supyloco (talkcontribs) 05:30, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

sixth and seventh gens

[edit]

Sixth gen ends when PS2 stops being produced-it will still be produced in 2008. (And is still outselling PS3 and 360.)

Seventh gen leave it like (2004- because that's how its usually done for human lifespan, etc. Tehw1k1 08:33, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not any more mate, that things more dated than the Atari 2600. mcjakeqcool Mcjakeqcool (talk) 14:41, 21 December 2008 (UTC)RE: By the way the point of that edit, was that the ps2 is not outselling the ps3 or 360 or wii for that matter. Phew! mcjakeqcool Mcjakeqcool (talk) 14:42, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

sixth generation over?

[edit]

Is the sixth generation over yet? the PS2 is still selling very well and it is doing better than the PS3. My personal opinion is that we should either put 2008 as the end of the sixth generation because that's when the PS3 will likely begin to consistently outsell the PS2 (this option could be considered speculation) or we could leave it open like the seventh generation. (ie. "1998-"). Either way, I think it is incorrect to list it as ending in 2006. Thingg (talk) 03:23, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to break this to ya, but the sixth gen is over, the ps2 is selling less units then the HD add on for the 360. mcjakeqcool Mcjakeqcool (talk) 14:53, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So why haven't we put it down yet? I'm going to put down 2008 as the end of the 6th generation. If you disagree state your reason here. --Jaqbenny (talk) 18:22, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, sixth gen has to be over now. The PS2 finally was discontinued in North America on November 6, 2012. The end is 2012 NOW. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.11.114.5 (talk) 18:39, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

make template wider?

[edit]

I think it would be a good idea to make this template a little wider so we can spell out "North American video game crash of 1983". I can picture a European gamer looking at a history of video games article and thinking: "I didn't know there was a video game crash in 1983" only to find out the crash primarily affected North America. If you would like to see what the widened template would look like, please check out User:Thingg/sandbox. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thingg (talk) 03:31, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Whats with this templete edit?!

[edit]

Ok why have the sixth and seventh gen years been changed for fifth and sixth gen from 1993-2002 and 1998-2006 to 1993-2004 and 1998-2010?! Because a generation is a major era for each generation, not just a time when a certain console e.g ps1, ps2 is being sold, if that was the point the second generation would be from 1976-1992 cos of the 2600, the third 1983-2003 cos of the nes/famicom and the forth 1987-2004 cos of the neo geo aes, some people may have a point that not *all* of the consoles have been discounied, but one console is not a major devolment period for any generation, and for that reason I am informing readers of this talk page that I shall edit it. mcjakeqcool Mcjakeqcool (talk) 14:50, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever you were trying to do, you broke the template entirely. I had already reverted the undiscussed change of the years. Chris Cunningham (not at work) - talk 15:03, 21 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Expandmenu not working

[edit]

The expandmenu functionality for this template seems to not work anymore. None of the menus show up open on pages that specify a specific menu to be open. Ithinkicahn (talk) 04:12, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please add the line "Ninth-generation of home video game consoles 2020-present" below "Eighth-generation of home video game consoles 2012-present" and make a page for it. Triplettay (talk) 02:07, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: No consensus exists for a ninth generation page yet, as sourcing has not developed. Wikipedia is based on reliable sourcing, and it's just not here yet. -- ferret (talk) 14:28, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The case of 7th gen

[edit]

Quick question, as it keeps changing, when did the 7th generation officially end? So far I've seen 2017 (which is likely meant to be when the Switch released), 2018 (I don't know why) and 2020 (which was when the last games for the system were published). So what is the mostly agreed upon year the 7th gen finished? CaptainGalaxy 10:25, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

With hardware discontinuation. 2017 should be right, but because third parties keep releasing new Wii games, people keep moving the date forward. Official discontinuation of all 7th gen consoles was by 2017, last I checked. That third parties release new titles could continue forever in theory, and has no official bearing. -- ferret (talk) 12:38, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. CaptainGalaxy 12:50, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You should check this again. According to the page and on this template, 6th generation apparently ends in 2015, because the PS2 had its final release in the form of Final Fantasy XI: Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, released in 2015. If were were strictly following when consoles were ending, shouldn't the sixth gen be ending in 2013? Because I was confused when I saw the 2015 date on the template, instead of the 2013 date that would've made sense. -- PanchamBro (talkcontributions) 20:46, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

For the date range for the Sixth Generation of Video Game consoles, please change the dates from (1998–2005) to (1998–2013), as that's when the PlayStation 2 was discontinued.[1] 2601:249:9301:D570:14A2:9EB4:B98F:BF8D (talk) 00:36, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
