PR coverage, not a Wikipedia article

[edit]

Several instances of the page clearly show a pro-xsolla, biased view.

"Xsolla is pursuing its strategic goal to gain a significant market share in both European, American and Asian regions by providing new services. Xsolla assisted many famous game companies such as Perfect World In November 2013 to self-publish its latest game, Neverwinter, on the Russian market."

This is a great example, as it reads like a marketing piece.

Someone should also include the delightful disclamer that all of the EU is declared the same in the EULA (https://xsolla.com/eula) [unfortunately no easier to read version availible as far as I can tell.]

I can take a crack at it but I fear my view isn't as objective as I think it might be. 158.36.141.162 (talk) 10:58, 9 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nice self editing XSolla, the tips were not optional and were added to all charges, and the tip goes nowhere but to yourself. Censoring any critiscism of yourself isnt the Wikipedia way — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:C7F:B234:BF00:F414:7472:702F:B383 (talk) 12:24, 22 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Clarifying Criticism section

[edit]

I'm with Xsolla's pr team and would like help adding a clarification/update to the Criticism section of the article:

On August 21, 2017 Xsolla removed the "tips" option and they are no longer in use. See update at https://xsolla.com/faq/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pgharris11 (talkcontribs) 2017-09-05T16:21:00 (UTC)

not sure why this edit is considered disruptive. this page is PR, not encyclopedia

Criticism

[edit]

In August 2021, CEO and founder, Aleksandr Agapitov fired approximately 150 employees based on network usage data, writing on Twitter “Work your fucking ass off or get your fucking ass out.” This move was described as like a "Bioshock villain" in part because of the "bizarre" tone of the email, because the CEO doubled down on Twitter and promised to repeat this action every six months, and because the metrics used (network activity) are not closely related to developers core job functions[1].

Draft for review

[edit]

Hello editors,

This article is tagged as having multiple issues and it seems to need an overhaul in order to fix all of these problems (bad sourcing, promotional language etc.)

In order to fix these issues, I have a draft I would like to suggest. If editors would like to see a comparison between this draft and the current version, here is a diff.

If there are any questions, please let me know. I am an employee of Xsolla and therefore have a conflict of interest which is disclosed on this page. Xsolla Rep SR (talk) 14:01, 20 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, having read your draft I would say that it appears to be a significant improvement on the current article. However, as it is a complete article re-write by a COI editor I'd prefer to have a second uninvolved editor have a look and see if they agree before it is implemented. Best wishes, Axad12 (talk) 06:04, 21 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Xsolla Rep SR, the draft looks pretty good, but I accepted Aleksandr Agapitov, so I would also wait for another person. —asparagusus (interaction) sprouts! 19:03, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Axad12 and Asparagusus for the review, I'll keep watching for more input. Xsolla Rep SR (talk) 14:58, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to me with a quick skim, though I'll probably have a more detailed look at it later. TheWikiToby (talk) 17:50, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Xsolla Rep SR This is interesting. Not sure I'm overly keen on the idea, even if the current article isn't great.
Overall, I would recommend the draft include subheadings, as the current article does (alongside most Wikipedia articles). Otherwise 'History' is basically a giant wall of text.
"specializing in payment software for video games" - I would look to remove the puffery here.
"Xsolla leadership said its partners were aware of its operations in Russia and that it would continue to operate in the country while its partners chose to serve Russian gamers". The GameDeveloper article says no such thing?
What is the justification for removing the Bitbox Ltd controversy?
The reword of the 150 employee "layoff" after using AI to judge performance is a bit of a stretch to say the least. I dislike how Agapitov's departure immediately follows that sentence (yet they came back). It feels misleading - like their departure was related to the employee dismissal.

Thank you OXYLYPSE and for your comments! I went ahead and made a new draft with your comments.
To answer a couple of your questions, the Bitbox content was removed and TechRaptor did not seem like a reliable source. Any discussions on it are inconclusive and that should mean it isn't strong enough of a source for controversial content. After some searching, there does not appear to be any other coverage of the lawsuit or the initial claims by Bitbox.
Also, the GameDeveloper article in the very last graf confirms the content, I also added that graf as a quote in the reference.
Please let me know if you have any other thoughts! Thanks, Xsolla Rep SR (talk) 14:35, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Axad12, Asparagusus, and TheWikiToby: I wanted to ping you three since you reviewed the previous draft. Following comments from OXYLYPSE I have a new draft you might be interested in reviewing as well. Thanks, Xsolla Rep SR (talk) 18:52, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Xsolla Rep SR! The draft looks pretty good. I would remove the "it takes approximately five percent of its shares as commission" bit in the lede as that doesn't seem relevant to the article. Thanks! —asparagusus (interaction) sprouts! 19:09, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @Xsolla Rep SR. Sorry I forgot to reply. I skimmed the draft at the time and liked it but got distracted. Agree with your comments on the controversial parts - after looking into it I agree the sourcing was weak. It still looks good to me, and I'd be happy to merge, assuming nobody else has an objection OXYLYPSE (talk) 01:31, 9 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Asparagusus For your suggestion, I have gone ahead and deleted that in the draft
OXYLYPSE It looks like all outstanding comments have been resolved, if you are still interested in doing the merge.
Please let me know if either of you have any other thoughts! Thanks, Xsolla Rep SR (talk) 19:20, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Xsolla Rep SR Appreciate your patience with this. Given that nobody has objected I've gone ahead and merged your draft into the article. It feels like an improvement to me. Thanks -OXYLYPSE (talk) 19:45, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OXYLYPSE Now that I have been unblocked for the username, I wanted to thank you for merging this draft and your time working with me to improve it! Xsolla Rep SR (talk) 14:03, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! Have a great weekend! -OXYLYPSE (talk) 14:06, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
