Tax Evasion Controversy

On 8th July 2021, The Madras high court has imposed Rs 1 lakh cost on Tamil actor Vijay for failing to pay entry tax for import of a luxury car -- Rolls-Royce Ghost -- from England in 2012. The amount would go to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund to fight Covid-19.

Dismissing the plea moved by Vijay, the judge said the actor had largescale fan groups. “Those fans see such actors as real heroes. In a state like Tamil Nadu, where such actors have become rulers of the state, they are not expected to behave like a ‘reel hero’. Tax evasion is to be construed as an anti-national habit, attitude and mindset and unconstitutional,” the judge said in the July 8 order released on Tuesday.

“These actors are portraying themselves as champions to bring social justice in the society. Their movies are against corrupt activities in the society. Removing tags while the discussion is ongoing

Hello, @Pauldereck, Healove, and Ratih2000: I request you not to remove the tags until there is consensus at the article take page. Please see WP:Tagging pages for problems#Disputes over tags. The tag "merely indicates the existence of one editor's concern, without taking a stand whether the article complies with Wikipedia policies." It may not mean the article actually violates NPOV. Fan POV

This page is mired with fan point of view. Any attempt at clean up seems to be reverted without any valid discussion. Therefore, tagged the page. Examples include:

1. The claim of "significant fan following globally", a lofty claim sourced only to tabloid article of TOI. Exceptional claims require exceptional sources which is clearly not met.

2. "Pan-Indian demand for his films, made him a sought-after actor in Hindi cinema". Again, this statement is not directly supported by the cited sources who reliability is itself questionable.

    The lead of the article is extremely non-neutral, let alone the whole thing. I may read the entire thing to help out with neutrality if the 2-3 IP's that keep coming to make some edits and then yank the maintenance tags would stop doing so and discuss here.
    • A massive portion of the lead is just regurgitating a portion of his filmography despite the fact we have an entire page for that already at Vijay filmography.
    • I don't see the necessity of listing out his winning of 4 different awards when we already state he is one of the highest paid actors in India. Perhaps pick 1 or 2 of those that are the most prominent.
    • The success of his masala film Thirumalai (2003) changed his on-screen persona to that of an action hero. - This is what we mean by fan point of view. His on-screen persona is going to change based on what role he plays... that is how acting works. There isn't a reason to mention this at all.
    • Vijay is among the most popular celebrities in India - We already state he has been listed multiple times in Forbes India's top 100 celebrities and that he is the one of the highest paid. Why do we need to declare this seperately?
    • Vijay's popularity has been recorded by both Google and Twitter as the most-searched-and-tweeted actor several times - This can apply to basically any international celebrity based on current events. What makes this happening to Vijay more prominent?

I have changed the whole lead section removing and altering the contents as you stated above. I appreciate you addressing some of my concerns! I'll drop my concern on bullet 3 because it will become in my view a non-issue if my first concern is addressed, which I must remain firm on. What value do you see in the second paragraph of the lead? A lead should act as an introduction to the article and a summary of its most important contents per our guidance on writing leads to articles. In what way does the 2nd paragraph do this? I think it needs to be removed wholesale. Note that if this is done that does not constitute me no longer possessing concerns.
If I have time this weekend I'll give the article a proper read-through and highlight any potential issues I see outside of the lead.
Unrelated to our content discussion, I have restored the tags. Again. It is not permissible to remove a maintence template when [t]here is ongoing activity or discussion related to the template issue per our help page regarding maintenance templates. This has been stated in varying wording and objected to ad nauseum ([1][2][3][4][5][6]). The existence of these tags is to highlight problems to be fixed, as is occurring here. They aren't there to disparage the article subject. Their consistent removal despite multiple objections with the invalid rationale of "lots of content has been removed" or "the tags no longer apply" is becoming disruptive. Should we remove the WP:BLPNAME comment placed on his personal life section? There has been a discussion at this talk page as to whether or not to mention the name of the BLP's son in this article. Before 2022, he was covered as Vijay's son. You can google his name now(Jason Sanjay) and the results on page 1 are all from reliable sources. He has appeared in one of Vijay's films, Vettaikaaran, and also has signed an agreement to direct a film under the production house Lyca Productions [7] This also works as a secondary source if I am right.     If you want to mention Vijay has children, a son and daughter, that is fine, but there is no need to mention non-notable trivial cameo appearances in films. And FYI, I generally oppose adding children's names to any celebrity BLP article, unless the kid has one themselves. How does name-dropping a celebrity kids name help me better understand the topic of the article? It doesn't. Does Vijay's notability derive from the mere fact he has children? No, it does not. And since you acknowledge the kid is not note worthy enough to have his own article, and we let this content slide into the article, there is a more than likely scenario, this article becomes a magnet to mention and/or add additional content about Jason, because after all, he doesn't have his own article.     I think you misunderstood the whole point of this RfC. It's not completely about adding his name because of a trivial cameo appearance in a single film. If I am right, his name was concealed because 1. There was no coverage of him previously 2. WP:BLPNAME. Right now, none of the use cases of WP:BLPNAME applies here because of the coverage he has now. When he is discussed on articles from reliable news media on the internet, I don't see a point in concealing his name. Just like how Vijay's wife's name is mentioned on the Personal life section

The family members his wife daughter and son imagine themselves as the characters in the Leo story and his wife also imagines parthiban as Leo Das. The family members imagination is what we see on screen.
