Talk:Video game bot
list
[edit]Can someone make a list of all the games that have bots? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.225.59.255 (talk) 01:45, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
ChristianBethel (talk) 18:31, 20 October 2020 (UTC)If our Wikipedia overlords don't delete that page as soon as it's made, I can do it.
Bot types.
[edit]I was doing some copyediting in the "Bot Types" section and noticed the following sentence:
- Unreal Tournament's series bots use an embedded pathnode system in the map to navigate.
What I was hoping to find out is: What is the meaning of the word series in this context? What is a series bot? I suspect that whoever wrote this sentence was actually trying to refer to the Unreal Tournament series, and that there's no such thing as a series bot, but I lack the technical knowledge of computer games to be sure of that. I know I should be bold, but I don't want to introduce an error out of ignorance when my only intention was to correct syntax. —CKA3KA (Skazka) 21:05, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
- I'm pretty confident the author meant the game series. Wouter Lievens 13:19, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
MUD bots
[edit]I'm wondering whether I should add material on MUD bots to this article or another. My choices are MUD client, MUD, and this, Computer game bot. This article is as so far nicely restricted to FPS bots, and I would hate to spoil that.
Well, for now, I'll add material on MUD bots in here. I'll try to write it nicely. If there's reason for an article split later, we can do it then. Santtus 15:29, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
How intelligent is a game bot?

- For this there's the Wayback Machine - it's up at https://web.archive.org/web/20120205024358/http://www.tcnj.edu/~games/AIGames/papers/Moyer.html
- I also think the article really needs some clarification (like some short note/quote from the above paper) on the degree to which these bots can be called "artificial intelligence".

No I don’t think that one because they’re supposed to be programmed to do the exact same task over and over again so it’s technically not artificial intelligence it doesn’t learn it just does what the masters tell it to do — Preceding unsigned comment added by Redacted man (talk • contribs) 22:49, 10 March 2021 (UTC)
AFK Gaming Redirect?
[edit]Can't see what leaving a MMORPG character continually using a skill to increase stats (eg EQ bard improving wind instrument skill) has to do with a Bot. This is AFK gaming with no bot usage. Why the redirect? Matt 15:13, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
I totally agree, Matt. I came here looking for information on AFK Gaming as it applies to MMORPGs, not FPSs. :( Bill W. Smith, Jr. (talk/contribs) 20:31, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Age of Empires II does not has any bots built-in.
[edit]This game does not has any bots built-in , but the bots listed are made by Artificial intelligence scripters and they are available separately. The game has only one default computer player. So i guess it does not belong in the category of "Games with built-in bots". Acetylcholine 08:25, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
Why so positive?
[edit]This article seems nothing but positive about bots. Am I the only person to find them hugely anoying? Sometimes it can take ages of connecting to server after server, before I find some real human players. The whole point of going online is to play against other human beings, if I wanted to play against a PC, I'd stay offline. Anyway, if there are more people who find bots anoying, can we put that in? -OOPSIE- 04:47, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- ChristianBethel (talk) 19:30, 30 January 2022 (UTC)Why would you assume bots are related to online play? They're not. In my experience they're used for offline play. If the bots suck, then it is the fault of the developers who didn't take the time to properly create them. ChristianBethel (talk) 19:30, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
I agree; there should be a criticism section. There also needs to be a section saying its against game rules to use bots.I also a gree that people who bot are level pushing losers who have no life outside of their avitars. Real people with real lives are not botters who use the game for fun not levels. Why no criticism section, bot use is criticized hugely. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.70.14.63 (talk) 14:26, 16 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi, There are many articles for second life and video games, whose technological aspect may be of some interest to people. However, the information about the bots is rather limited. I would suggest to include more categories and description for bots as: Avabots(CrowdBot,Indivbots),InfoBots (SimulBots, RecBots). (Violeta tsareva (talk) 14:45, 16 February 2013 (UTC))
.io games and fake multiplayer
[edit]Some dirty .io devs lie and say their .io games have real players, when it is all just bots, no players. Could someone who knows what they're doing mention this? As well as .io bots in general? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.176.230.82 (talk) 21:29, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
Missing History
[edit]This article misses the early history of bots, Rogue, Angband, etc. I think bots for playing games were the first ever bots, but came to this article to verify. I think the reason for the creation of first bots is an important part of their history I'd hate for humanity to forget. I'm about 10 years too young to have been there for it, so depend on someone with better knowledge to edit.
Further, I'm not sure why all there are various articles on each type of bot that say very little instead of a single article with sections. I don't know enough about Wiki rules to risk something like a merge attempt. 2604:2D80:DE09:D400:9D7B:60DF:2F92:757F (talk) 16:34, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
