You employ this style of writing throughout the article and it is used correctly, but I believe it does not work here, or at least I have never seen it used in this way. The west shore of the island experienced coastal flooding, as many rocks were lifted onto the road of that portion the last two words in this extract are ambiguous: what is that portion referring to?
