Todo

[edit]

Split the SH into two paragraphs. For units, be sure if the first one is rounded, the second one needs to be rounded. 3 in (76 mm)–4 in (100 mm) - needs fixing. Should be 3-4 inches (metric). There is more info in the NHC archives, though it is in French. However, given how short the impact is, that info should probably be added, using [1]. Overall prose is weak, and could use some rewriting. ♬♩ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:51, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I plan on reviewing this tomorrow. YE Pacific Hurricane 04:49, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, YE. Btw, be as critical as you like, as I want to achieve A-class quality and might take this to FAC one day. Auree 04:54, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, you gave valid reasons, that should do it for now. YE Pacific Hurricane 01:46, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lead

[edit]
  • "Cindy attained peak sustained winds of 45 mph (75 km/h) just before it began to weaken from interacting with the high terrain of Hispaniola. It made landfall in the Dominican Republic on August 16 as a marginal tropical depression, and dissipated over the territory the following day." Hispaniola made landfall in the Domincan Republic? YE Pacific Hurricane 23:12, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Meteorological history

[edit]
  • " A second aircraft mission at 1200 UTC the next day, however, revealed that the circulation had acquired sufficient organization for the system to be classified as a tropical depression, and the National Hurricane Center (NHC) initiated public storm advisories soon thereafter.[1][2]" don't include (NHC) in the wikilink (no need) and what are public storm advisories? the layman won't know. YE Pacific Hurricane 23:12, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Disagreed with both points. The MOS states that parenthesized acronyms should be included in the appropriate wikilink, and if a reader knows the words "public," "storm," and "advisory" (which anyone with even remote vocabulary should) it's pretty easy to figure out the meaning. Auree 00:02, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • "A subsequent reconnaissance mission and satellite images revealed that the depression had developed a central dense overcast while its winds had increased to gale force; the NHC upgraded it to Tropical Storm Cindy around 1800 UTC.[1]" make "gale force" "gale-force", and why does central dense overcast link to eye (cyclone)? YE Pacific Hurricane 23:12, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Well, "gale-force" would be incorrect here (adjective succeeds the noun), and central dense overcast is a high-jargon term without an article of its own, but which the Eye article does deal with. Auree 00:02, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Preparations

[edit]

Impact

[edit]
  • "In spite of the extensive preparations across Puerto Rico, Cindy's center passed well to the south of the island. Impact from the storm was limited to intermittent downpours and 8 ft (2.4 m) waves along the island's southern coast.[29]" according to the earlier in the article, preps were not extensive. YE Pacific Hurricane 23:12, 2 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Evacuations, public service cancellations and going through the trouble to put a price freeze on stuff is pretty extensive imo. If you still disagree, I can remove the word "extensive". Auree 00:02, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]
  • Though preferred, location fields are optional, even over at FAC. I do add agencies when available, but there are no agencies for either of those sources, nor are there page numbers for most newspaper articles (and even if there were, those are not required for newspaper articles). I added an |at= parameter for ref 9, though. Auree 00:02, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Huh? None of the urls are archived.
