Cancer section
[edit]The section about Totalbiscuit's cancer, while warranted, is way too large and takes up an unusual amount of space that isn't consistent with other wikipedia articles. Auror Andrachome (talk) 20:09, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- I agree. I'll look into trimming it down significantly. Elassint Hi 03:35, 22 April 2018 (UTC)
Genna Bain
[edit]I was wondering why his stepson Orion is mentioned but that there is no mention of Genna Bain his wife? TheReadingChair (talk) 21:09, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what you mean, I find his wife mentioned several times. Elassint Hi 00:28, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
You are right, I don't know why I rushed to make a discussion instead of reading the article. TheReadingChair (talk) 22:47, 1 May 2018 (UTC)
Death report
[edit]Please stop adding his death without a proper source. While it's unlikely his wife would lie on her Twitter, a better source than a Twitter post is needed to report on someone's death since there have been false reports like that. Just wait a bit. Prinsgezinde (talk) 23:11, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

- It seems odd to reject twitter as a source but accept games sites, which will just use twitter in turn as a source. --Ruyter talk 23:30, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- I kind of agree, these news sites don't have any other source and are only just using the Twitter. If the death was falsely reported on the Twitter then the news article would be wrong too. --Chengary88 (talk) 00:03, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- Bigger news sites usually do extra research to make sure they're not wrong. A website like BBC would not report on a death without some more insurance. It's simple though, Wikipedia doesn't break news. Prinsgezinde (talk) 11:57, 27 May 2018 (UTC)
- BBC are the folks who used the Halo UNSC logo for the UN instead of the real one. I don't think they put in very much effort into researching their sources. Ikmxx (talk) 23:46, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

User:Magitroopa, you keep adding Twitter as a source when it's not. Use the now readily available other articles instead. News articles usually check their facts. Prinsgezinde (talk) 23:31, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- It's the official Twitter, it's a source. It is the verified account. Also doesn't mean you need to keep removing the Death section. Magitroopa (talk) 23:32, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- Deaths require more than borderline reliable sources. What if her account was hacked? Unlikely, but deaths are often falsely reported. Now that we know he's dead we can instead use the more reliable news articles instead. There is no reason to use the twitter. Prinsgezinde (talk) 23:35, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- We need to replace a LOT of the primary sources in this article. --Masem (t) 23:38, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- So many sources are reporting his death, not sure why this is controversial. Alssa1 (talk) 09:03, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- Articles appeared fairly quickly, but between around 23:00 and 23:30 the only source anyone had was her Twitter. Prinsgezinde (talk) 14:26, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

- Replaced with BBC article. Sincerely, Marksomnian. (talk) 13:14, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

The tweet that announced his passing in his account could be added a source in the line that tells the day he died. https://twitter.com/Totalbiscuit/status/999787845127634944 Maracutaia EDIT: Actually, submitted before reading the discussion, my bad.

- @Maracutaia: Twitter is not a reliable source, and the relevant news of TB's passing is now being disseminated by proper media outlets. This will quickly result in reliable sources being generated that we can then cite.--SamHolt6 (talk) 03:07, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. Sam Sailor 11:03, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

GoFundMe fundraising page
[edit]Is GoFundMe fundraising page encyclopedic ? - FlightTime (open channel) 20:46, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- Not unless 3rd party sources note it, which I don't believe have at this point. --Masem (t) 20:52, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- How many independent secondary sources do you think would be necessary, FlightTime and Masem? —Nøkkenbuer (talk • contribs) 22:18, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- Only one, just to show that it was observed by a third-party. I'd keep in mind that GFM donation drives after someone of Internet fame dies is no longer uncommon, so it's basically why this one rises to be of note. --Masem (t) 22:20, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- One good one would work for me. - FlightTime (open channel) 22:29, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- Would this source be acceptable? Although the website is nowhere near as prominent as Polygon or BBC, it is written by a professional journalist who is the editor-in-chief for the editorial staff of a website that has been occasionally cited on game-related articles. If a better source comes along, I will naturally add it or at least mention it here. If numerous better sources pop up, then this one can be replaced altogether. So long as you two are fine with this source, I have the following text ready for the end of § Cancer diagnosis and death, modified from my initial attempt:
Given how quickly the amount raised continues to rise, both the amount raised and the fundraising goal can be added later, once it is over or at least has slowed down. —Nøkkenbuer (talk • contribs) 23:04, 25 May 2018 (UTC) Actually, the primary source to the fundraising page itself could be omitted if necessary, since it can be found in the secondary source. —Nøkkenbuer (talk • contribs) 23:08, 25 May 2018 (UTC)The following day, a family friend created a crowdfunding page on GoFundMe to financially assist the Bain family.[1][2]

photo
[edit]Can we use a better photo please? I would like one that looks more serious/professional rather than a casual fan photo that we currently are using. 71.3.195.32 (talk) 19:01, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, because we have a reasonable - if not the most flattering - image of him, NFC disallows us to use a non-free photo. --Masem (t) 19:03, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
- Can we use this one for example if we get the NFC holder's permission? 71.3.195.32 (talk) 19:04, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
- Yes, there are means for those that own such photos to follow to agree to license them freely as listed at WP:CONSENT. There's clearly lots of better quality photos, but as long as the free version isn't completely crap, we need a replacement to be free. --Masem (t) 19:13, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
- So would you support the proposal to replace the image on the article if I can find a better one following the WP:CONSENT process? 71.215.83.8 (talk) 20:39, 8 June 2019 (UTC)
- We always appreciate when a better quality photo can be licensed freely to replace a poorer-quality free image. Even having multiple free images of various quality is still helpful for illustrating. --Masem (t) 15:18, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
