The first two statements are true. If there was a wayback for whois, you could see that isonews.com was registered to David Rocci for quite some time after orm handed operations over to krazy8 and mandarin. Also, Mr. Rocci's house was raided because isonews.com was supporting itself by selling XBOX and PS2 modchips which were marketed for the purpose of playing pirated console games. At the time it was also speculated that a side effect of the raid was to gain information on warez groups under the assumption that Mr. Rocci has more information than was posted to isonews.com(many people believed that isonews stored actual pirated material much like the problem that bittorrent trackers have today). This is largely believed to not be the case as Mr. Rocci didn't have any scene affiliations at that time. Recomended for deletion? by this guy? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Sandstein its a well known thing that isonews has had problems with government agencies again and again, seems they cant let go :) as it stands this article is old, its got information, its accurate and it contains info which people might want to see, I suspect this was nominated for deletion because the guy works for the government, or he got banned from isonews or something.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.178.236.165 (talk • contribs) 10:22, January 25, 2007.

In the early nineties security was hardly a part of a sceners routines unlike nowadays. With sitenames, group IRC channels and lists of members being openly distributed in nfo's those days were clearly different. Some people ran private websites to communicate and store this information which later resulted in the opening of the big three public sites still known today:

• www.orm.nu -> www.isonews.com/www.theisonews.com
• www.nforce.nl/www.nfohump.com
• www.vcdq.com

www.orm.nu was started by members of ORIGIN/DEViANCE as stated in one of their NFO's:

Pre databases history

Since pre sources are becoming more and more public it was a small step to design a frontend for the SQL databases bots use to store their info. Since the distribution of NFO, SFV and M3U files was picked up by about every prenet the availability has vastly increased.

The idea of listing releases started by a friend of mine under a free domain with VCD nfos, samples, screenshots and comments only in late 1997. In 1998 "orm" started another webpage that listed everything which the VCD section merged into, this was known as orm.nu or .com, cant recall exactly. After that Krazy8, mandarin and sinkist came along and isonews.com was created with better coding thanks to mandarin and a more structured database. Orm wasn't around very long and faded away, krazy8 had legal problems and moved on with life, sinkist friendship with mandarin ended and he left quite abruptly.

As to the "flaming", sure there has been "flaming" but "back then" sceners roamed the forum and IRC channel and there was a neutral ground for them to take out their arguments off and on. The forum itself never took off though, it was quite slow the first year but picked up as sceners left/went underground and p2p kids flooded in. Since then its been a spiral downwards.
