Hey WTF? The Legend of Dragoon is the most awesome RPG ever! WHAT ABOUT THE GODDAM OTHER CHARACTERS, STORY SUMMARY, DRAGOON MOVES, ADDITIONS, AND ALL THAT?!?! Grr...this is highly offensive to me.
I know, you have to be a complete screw head to not like this masterpiece. Oh yeah to the ass hat who keeps on vandalizing my beloved LOD - you can go straight to hell. Starzaz 08:55, 19 October 2007
Then you're welcome to add informaton to the article. Although, given your previous statements, that information may not conform to NPOV...
I have to agree with the above person here. I love LoD as much as the next person, one of my most favorite games, but you don't go raving over it. It's not exactly a very popular game, sadly. I would expand on this if it weren't for the fact that my 1st copy of LoD is broken and my seoncd copy is lost somewhere. Also, I still don't know how to really make nice, big edits anyway. But I can fix spelling mistakes and such. Also, I don't know how to do it, but could someone please move the spoiler alert to the very top of the article? I believe that things like the death of a main character, betrayals, conspiracies unvieled, that sort of thing, are things that shouldn't be spoiled. I'll see if I can change it myself... Also, it would be most joyous if someone could write a little summary of what the game is exactly about, the plot. I haven't played in the longest time(I hadn't been able to play any PS games in a while, our PS2 broke and we just got a new one on Christmas, and between that time my new LoD got lost X.X), so it's a bit fuzzy, I keep thinking up side-plots and only snippets of the game and the like, I can't piece them together at the moment. Well, I've played the game and I have set out to improve this article. It's going to be a while before it's perfect, but hey, it does need some work.
Thank you, I hope you do a nice job! But please leave 4 tildes(~) at the end of your talk-things, unless you don't have a username. I just like to know who it is posted, you know? XOSAF 22:44, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
Uh. I was wondering. The name "The Legend of Dragoon", I've heard used like that many times before but I thought it might be wrong. Before I always pronounced it "Legend of the Dragoon". It may seem silly, but I was wondering if anyone had any insight on this. As the case's cover title may be a little confusing.
If this article is to be expanded, I think a mention of their horrific dialogue is in order. While it was an otherwise decent game, the translations of the game's script became laughable at best (ie, "YOU MAKE GOOD WIFE."). --AWF
All video game entries should have information on the reception, status etc... Anybody that may be working on this page should add that. - Helgunn

Bugs in the game
[edit]According to the GameFAQs Message Board on Legend of Dragoon, there's a frequently reported bug on the Greatest Hits version where it freezes up during or after the battle with Lenus and Regole if played on a PS2. Various remedies are given for this, including not using Dragoon mode during the battle or putting toothpaste on the disk. According to the Message Board, this actually works. I'm not sure if this would belong in the article, due to the non-completely-verifiable content, and I'm not sure if this belongs in Wikipedia... could someone please comment? 71.198.181.226 02:17, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
- I think it's best to leave it out if you can't find a good source for it. (I do think that happened to me, but it wasn't a Greatest Hits version, and, well, my PS2 does freeze up a lot anyway.) Ravenwolf Zero 19:37, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'm sure a saw a source for this, let me look around. This did happen to me, best way around it is to just use a PS1 to get past that point and then it works fine (this solution was in the article I mentioned, so let me look for it). Darkelfpoet 20:42, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- Can someone provide a link to those bug remedies? I'm having that problem as well. 74.67.134.250 13:56, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- This has happened to me before, but it would freeze up throughout the whole game after certain scenes. Although the game was used, it wasn't scratched up at all. As far as using toothpaste to clean disk, I've done this and it does work. All you have to do is make sure you wash it all off with water and it'll leave the disk surface shiny in near-new condition.darkdemon90 November 2007 (UTC)

Referenced in Tales of Symphonia?
[edit]I have recently been replaying LoD, and have noticed 3 things that remind me of Tales of Symphonia for GameCube a lot. However, I can't remember one of them...D'oh! Anyway, in LoD the woman you give all the Stardusts to is named Martel, who is the main goddess in ToS. And, a big villan in LoD is named Lloyd, which is the protagonist's name is ToS. As I play, I will see if I can find more references, but for now, I don't think two references warrant a mention Hypernova2121 06:36, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
- I think they're just coincidences. Lloyd is a normal name, and I know I've seen Mertel elsewhere, too. The games were made by two different companies, and probably by completely different teams of people.Ravenwolf Zero 19:34, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- Martel is actually used in Tales of Phantasia which has appeared 5 years before LoD and is also the goddess...I believe it would be a coincidence anyhow--Kedren Raziek 08:49, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think they're just coincidences also. It reminds me of the same things people say about the game having things in common with Final Fantasy VII, which is completely rediculous. darkdemon90 2:07, 22 Nov 2007 (UTC)
The List of Locations shouldn't be mergeed...
[edit]I'm going to work extensively to get this article on the map, and the List of The Legend of Dragoon Locations will be MUCH more detailed than it is now, and will take up too many kilobytes to be merged. it's appropiate to keep it as its own article.Johnny707 02:01, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
Winglies in a whole section? Please think before you edit...
[edit]If we made a section like that on every race this article would be WAY too long. Make a section explaining the races or something, but not one whole section on JUST ONE race.Johnny707 01:16, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
- I currently see nothing about the races in the article, but it definitely should be there. If there's enough information for a whole section on each race, maybe there could even be a separate article for LoD Races (Final Fantasy has about fifty pages, after all). Ravenwolf Zero 19:44, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Title of the game
[edit]I could see where one could think that the title is "Legend of the Dragoon" but the spine of the game's case clearly says "The Legend of Dragoon."
Shana's last name
[edit]How is it known that Shana's last name is "Deschain"? Was it in a version other than mine? Petronia 13:02, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Sounds to me like a bad joke on The Dark Tower series by Stephen King - the name of the main character is Roland Deschain. I could be wrong... heck, I thought that Zieg was the only guy with his name mentioned, and only indirectly (i.e. as a boss, his name appears as Zieg Feld). 169.229.121.94 20:41, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
Unencyclopedic?
[edit]A lot of this article is awfully opinionated. For example, "...the brave and skilled swordsman Dart Feld, the young and confident teenage girl Shana, the friendly but serious Lavitz Slambert..." Not that I don't agree with most of what's said, but is there any concrete evidence that Lavitz is friendly but serious? The whole article seems awfully unencyclopedic to me. Ravenwolf Zero 19:30, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Very large story section
[edit]The story section needs to be deeply condensed, and hopefully we can get some other information on the reception or other aspects of the game? Andrewcarreiro 04:30, 20 April 2007 (UTC)
It's pretty poorly written, as well...I understand I should fix it myself, but it's 3 in the morning, so I'll try to remember tomorrow. Lots of grammar, spelling and sentence construction errors.
I agree that the story section is too long. its one thing to explain the story another entirely to tell the entire story. It takes up alot of space and doesnt make the page any better, spoiler tags would help but it really needs condensing. A Music should have a proper section== A few things here.. Actually, a lot of things. ==
One inssue is the amssive writeup of the entire story, and from what I recall, there weren't correctly used Spoiler Tags. That needs to be fixed, but I don't really knowhow to use Spoiler tags(Yes, I just can't figure these things out).
Also, there's no mention of the music, or who composed it. I'm not sure where to place it but in these things I got, it says all the soings were written up by Dennis Martin. There is a total of 50 songs on a site which carries only game music, though. I will not name it due to it would probably get me in trouble. There's a new world map song for each disc, each character that's somewhat important has a theme, and there are seperate themes for most areas in the game.
So yeah, I know this information should be added, but I don't think I should be the one adding or editing it. comment was added by SBKT (talk • contribs) 16:51, 26 April 2007 (UTC).
Could someone try to move the story to its own article? I don't know how....169.229.121.94 20:44, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Ref Question
[edit]I found a reference for the line about the Top 10 Most Underrated Games.[1] Now I just need to know if I should care, since the source is a Gamespot blog. I'm not even sure if it belongs to an employee of Gamespot or just a random fan. Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 07:32, 7 October 2009 (UTC)
I'd remove that line, personally.
The referenced blog is some random fan, likely in his early teens ("that was very awesome got virtually unseen by the general public."). All 10 games listed are RPGs, and two of those were extremely well-received, Top10 sellers for the year they were released: Xenogears and Parasite Eve. Both of those games are rated 80+ on metacritic from critics, with 90+ from fans, and became Greatest Hits. --PuppetSoul (talk) 23:10, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

In the very beginning of the plot summary it is said that the game starts out with Lloyd returning from a five-year journey pursuing the Black Monster for killing his parents in Neet. Lloyd is the main character with whom the game begins.

Adding a Reference
[edit]Is it okay or possible to use a Youtube video as reference material? This is the only way I can think to end this edit war. As a side note, the person who keeps changing it to Lloyd is wrong and he knows it. I believe it is the same person who was vandalizing the legend of dragoon wikia a few months ago. -Scott- 99.178.136.110 (talk) 20:41, 22 November 2012 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, Wikipedia doesn't accept YouTube as a reliable source because the content is all user generated. I'm personally wondering why we can't use the game manual; surely the name/identity of the hero is in there, and I'm 90% certain that manuals are accepted as reliable sources. Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 03:10, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
- Ive added the refernce form the manual but I will need someone to double check to make sure it is proper -Scott- 99.178.136.110 (talk) 22:42, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
- I'm curious myself. I cited the game manual profusely when I helped write The Legend of Spyro, and I'd like to know that I did the right thing. Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 03:32, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
Would the site Forgotten memories work as a source. I cant find a better site to list the main playable characters.-Scott- 99.178.136.110 (talk) 21:34, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- The video games sites considered reliable sources by consensus are available at WP:VG/S. Forgottenmem isn't a reliable source. I recommend starting your research with the custom search, which I can't link directly but is in the first section of WP:VG/S. czar · · 03:24, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

I place the correct reference to prove Dart is the hero but this 205 IP address guy is changing it back to Lloyd. I used this site as a reference but he just took it down and replaced it with Lloyd without any reference material. There has to be something we can do to stop him from doing this. I have a feeling that he will just continue to change it back to Lloyd for no reason. -Scott- 129.107.184.114 (talk) 16:12, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Page protection
[edit]- Heading added by czar · · 23:49, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
I think we may need to re-protect the page; the Lloyd vs Dart vandalism seems to be picking up again. Thoughts? Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 05:28, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
- Agreed, though it's very difficult to gather a cogent case for WP:RPP since it has been ongoing sporadically for nearly a year now. czar · · 23:49, 11 August 2013 (UTC)
- We wouldn't need a full protect; my fairly reliable memory says that all the vandals are unregistered users, so a semi-protect would likely suffice. Unless there's something else about protecting a page that I'm unaware of. Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 06:15, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- Semi and full are the same RPP process. This article had WP:WHITELOCK for a while—I think it'd qualify for that before semi, though I'd obviously prefer semi. czar · · 07:09, 12 August 2013 (UTC)
- You're more familiar with the process for getting a page protected; what would we need here? The page history would have clear evidence to support semi-protection, I would think. Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 07:05, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'd dig up the IPs and previous blocks and protections and upon the next instance of vandalism, submit a request for appropriate protection. (Personally, I'm waiting for more persistent vandalism before going through that effort again.) czar · · 17:35, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- Vandalized again. I reverted it back, though. Homer Simpson? Why vandalize this page, when the game is so far out of the public eye?Canaanchaos (talk) 02:11, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Canaanchaos
- Is daily persistent enough? I'd love some assistance; I'm a little afraid of a Three-Revert Rule violation at this point.Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 05:09, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, daily is persistent enough. WP:WHITELOCK should work as a deterrent now, but we can up it if it continues. I watch this page too, but I get busy sometimes, so ping me if you want another editor so as to avoid the third revert. czar · · 14:22, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Please change "assassinates King Albert" to "murders Lavitz", because it's Lavitz that is killed by Lloyd. Albert lives, obtains the Jade Dragoon spirit from Lavitz and joins the party to avenge him. source: http://legendofdragoon.wikia.com/wiki/Lavitz_Slambert also, the story description is spotty at best. It needs to be more in depth, covering main characters joining the party etc. NahmenJayden (talk) 15:22, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
- I'll concur with the first part of your request; it was likely changed during vandalism and was just overlooked by the rest of us. As for the second part, I summarized this plot summary a while back, and I'm pretty sure the wise ones would still consider it a bit too long as it is. The official standard is that it must have appropriate "weight"; in practice, that usually means it needs to be no longer than the other sections. Ideally, if it's too long, the other sections are beefed up to compensate, but if that's not possible, the plot summary will have to be shortened. Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 03:39, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

[edit]It's [a different IP], but the same vandalism: Lloyd is claimed to be a good guy instead of a secondary antagonist. It's happened twice now; we all know where it'll end, so can we get a longer protection on this? Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 05:58, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
- Did you file at RPP? czar ♔ 14:19, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
- Not yet, I wanted to make sure I wasn't just overreacting. You know, cool down period. Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 06:35, 6 November 2013 (UTC)
- Just filed at RPP. This is the first time I've done this, so here's hoping I did it right. Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 04:39, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
- Request was declined. The Admin suggested we instead just block the IP since he only saw the one vandal. I don't have block powers; who do we go to for that? Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 06:21, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- You may find an admin more sympathetic at WT:VG. (If I remember correctly, that's how it was protected last time?) To answer your question, report vandals at WP:AIV, though I don't think the frequency is high enough for a block there. This is more of a waste of time thing, dozens of Lloyd edits over what, a year now? czar ♔ 13:39, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- That's usually my go-to place for help; I thought it'd be a good experience to try the more direct route. Strictly speaking, it wasn't bad, just unsuccessful. I'll go to WT:VG if he comes back. Larrythefunkyferret (talk) 05:30, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
@Sergecross73 and Salvidrim!: re: the page log, you've helped us in the past with page protections and the IP hopping vandal is back again. Should we keep bringing this back to RPP or is there a better solution? czar ♔ 03:41, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Greatest Hits Release Date?
[edit]Many of the Wikipedia articles for PlayStation games that received Greatest Hits releases will state the date of that re-release. This information is not currently present within The Legend of Dragoon's Wikipedia article. Can anyone confirm the release date for the Greatest Hits version?
While the original North American release was in 2000, my Greatest Hits release has a 2001 copyright notice on it.
The RPGamer entry for The Legend of Dragoon (https://archive.rpgamer.com/games/other/psx/lod/lod.html) lists a news article reporting on the upcoming Greatest Hits release (https://archive.rpgamer.com/news/Q3-2001/082201c.html). That article is dated 08.22.2001 so it seems safe to assume the game released some time after that date.
GiantBomb has an entry for the Greatest Hits version of The Legend of Dragoon on its Releases page for the game (https://www.giantbomb.com/the-legend-of-dragoon/3030-13180/releases/). Unfortunately, at the time of this writing, there are errors in this page. Most notably, they are saying the Greatest Hits version released on June 11, 2000, likely incorrectly copied over from their entry for the original North American release. It seems interesting to note this release date is two days earlier than the release date currently shown on Wikipedia. Also noteworthy is that there is a typo in the Sony Product Code for the Greatest Hits version on this GiantBomb page; it states "SCUS-944491", which has the numeral "4" present three times while the actual game's Sony Product Code has only two "4"s, as it is "SCUS-94491".

GA review – see WP:WIAGA for criteria
Hi there, Z1720! I'll be carrying out this GA review. I've read the entire article, and followed through the citations. There are a few minor issues which currently prevent me from giving this article a pass.
- Is it well written?
- A. The prose is clear and concise, and the spelling and grammar are correct:
- There are no issues with the spelling or grammar of the page. There were some minor quibbles, but I have made changes to improve them. Outstanding is that Characters and setting requires some work. There is jargon presented without explanation (
Winglies and Gigantos
) and there are two footnotes (one is attached toRose is the primary female lead
and the other isThe game's genre is fantasy
) which are not attached to punctuation. I would recommend the section be re-written to convey its information in a more straightforward way. Begin with the name of the setting, followed by its primary genre influences. Explain clearly the differing species of the game. Then, using the information you have provided, briefly highlight the characters. Consider what might be redundant information which can already be found in the plot summary.magic-user
should not be hyphenated (and could become 'mage' or whatever the game uses as terminology, so long it is consistent elsewhere.

- A. The prose is clear and concise, and the spelling and grammar are correct:
- Using the instruction manual, I added information about Winglies. The sources do not provide information about Gigantos, so I removed them from the article as they are not important to understanding the plot. I reformatted and rewrote "Characters and setting" to remove references that are not attached to punctuation, remove information already stated in "Plot", added info about being a fantasy game and added info about the different species in the game. For Miranda, the game doesn't have a specific term for magic users but the source states in French that Miranda is a magician ("magicienne") so I changed it to that. Z1720 (talk) 02:07, 14 October 2020 (UTC)
- Quickest change was just to remove it; sentence works fine without it. Imaginestigers (talk) 18:11, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

- B. It complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation:
- I haven't played this game, and the largest point of confusion for me (especially in Gameplay) is differences between dragoon form, and non-dragoon form. The image under this section does not mention which form it is, and the cover art is not sufficient as a differentiator. Consider: Does changing to dragoon form accompany visual changes to the character? The IGN source might be helpful to you in that regard. Is "addition" still available to the player while in dragoon form? The section is unclear, too, on what
commands are replaced with Dragoon Attack and Dragoon Magic
, and includes no information on how it differs. There is also no information on how dragoon spirits and spirit points are acquired (and if they differ). Is it through combat? Similarly, under Gameplay,At its grandest scale
feels like puffery, and doesn't properly convey much to me, as a reader.

- B. It complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation:
- Added info in the Gameplay section about obtaining a Dragoon Spirit, how to obtain spirit points, the Dragoon Attack quick-time event and Dragoon Magic. I also clarified that attack, guard, item, and run are replaced with Dragoon Attack and Dragoon Magic, and added a sentence on how a character's appearance changes when they are in Dragoon form. The
At its grandest scale
was borrowed from Final Fantasy VII, and "grandest" in this usage is a synonym to "largest". Is there a better way to phrase that? Z1720 (talk) 02:07, 14 October 2020 (UTC)- Good work on clarifying the gameplay. As for
At its grandest scale
, I have no specific suggestions right now because I'm in a rush (see my comment at the bottom), but my hope is for it to become more neutral. Feel free to leave this and I'll investigate the phrasing myself later tonight. It might be fine if it’s in FFVII.Imaginestigers (talk) 13:22, 14 October 2020 (UTC)- I'm leaving it be. If anyone else wants to change it in the future, they are free to do so (you included), but it isn't egregious. Imaginestigers (talk) 18:11, 14 October 2020 (UTC)

All in-line citations are from reliable sources, including those for direct quotations, statistics, published opinion, counter-intuitive or controversial statements that are challenged or likely to be challenged, and contentious material relating to living persons—science-based articles should follow the scientific citation guidelines:
- The game's instruction manual is cited on a few occassions, and it would be helpful to have a online link to that, if you can find one. There are some non-reliable sources used on the page, but these are permitted under WP:VGINT. The release dates are sourced correctly. MagicBox is a good source for sales figures.

- D. It contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism:
- No issues. There is one 88.9% confidence report of plagiarism on Copyvio, but the website has drawn from Wikipedia, instead of the other way around. For the second highest result, direct attribution is provided to the original writer, and it is relayed in Reception.
- C. It contains no original research:
- Is it broad in its coverage?

- The IGN review mentions that the cinematics were a major drawing point of the game at time of release. In order for fulness, I would recommend that information find its way into the article.

- Is it neutral?
- It represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each:
- Positive and negative criticism of the game is provided, with no unnecessary focus on either. Statements are correctly referenced.

- Is it stable?
- It does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute:
- The article is stable. There are no active discussions about whether to move or merge the article, nor are there edit wars. The page has 66 watchers and 292 average daily views (for a total of 6,127) as of October 13, 2020.

- The article was promoted to GA in time. The article is reliably cited with no copyright violations. The story section is unreferenced, but that is fine because the video game itself is the reference. A QPQ has been completed. I prefer ALT3. SL93 (talk) 21:17, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
Discs/Possible minor error
[edit]Both this article and the 'did you know' snippet on the frontpage cite four discs as the 'maximum allowed' in a PS1 case. This is not actually true - Riven: The Sequel to Myst was released with five, which as far as I know holds the record.
