News Flash: The Fool and his Money was released three days ago. When does this silly article get the Duke Nukem Forever revision? Cliff Johnson, 10/28/2012 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.65.106.20 (talk) 23:16, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is this "game" not just a joke? I mean, it's called "The Fool and His Money" (as in, are soon parted) and Cliff Johnson has been accepting pre-orders but continuously pushing the release date back everytime it gets close for over three years now! I guess saying so would be original research without any reference, though. Have any Wikipedians submitted a pre-order? --jwandersTalk 09:23, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have. Believe me, the slippages haven't been easy to digest. - DynSkeet * Talk 12:27, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yes. Don't think that it hasn't occurred to me. I pre-ordered back in 2003. By 2005 I was pretty strongly convinced that I was involved in some sort of elaborate performance art piece. Now I refuse to get my hopes up about any release date. That said, there seems to be a significant amount of art and screens for a non-existant game. Chunky Rice 19:30, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You fool! The scam is right there in the title. The Fool and His Money are soon parted. You have been played for a fool. Sad really, because I'd love to see a real sequel.

A recent update to Cliff Johnson's page explains his current progress on the project. Apparently, Macromedia Director and Flash, the tools used to render the game, had serious memory issues. His solution, which he states will take a few more months, will be manually handling the memory management. This does mean a new delay to the game, but the author is offering explanations and updates for his tardiness. 68.48.225.216 01:43, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. Its clearly just a hilarious scam. Kudos the d-bag that has your money though.216.197.255.21 04:41, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cliff actually has mentioned the irony of it all in an interview here (the last answer at the very bottom of the page). It still may not be worthy of inclusion, but it's interesting. Marvose (talk) 18:26, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, I forgot I'd ordered this. I wonder if it will come out before I die. 86.131.103.119 (talk) 18:40, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I hope it comes out before Cliff Johnson dies! Maurog 22:19, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm the person who commented in January. I have just got a refund, since I've given up hope of seeing this game finished. Pity. 86.153.8.118 (talk) 20:00, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
At least you got the refund!  :) It would be different if he was asking for money, and then just never delivering the game and never refunding people's money. --Elonka 20:36, 25 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I requested and received a refund as well. --Tut21 (talk) 15:11, 29 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Goes to show that the creator, like a true fool himself, is honorable and innocent. But eventually ( I hope!) triumphant and coming full circle.
Added the latest delay. (I dunno why I still get the e-mails, actually, since I gave up and got my refund two years ago.) If the total delay of this game were a human being's lifetime, they would soon be preparing for secondary school. 86.182.222.189 (talk) 22:12, 13 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Release date

[edit]

I'm looking at his webpage, and am not seeing anything about a change in release date.[1] Perhaps it would be better to amend the article to say, "The game was scheduled for a release of April 30, 2007, but has not yet been released." --Elonka 23:17, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There was no April 30 release date, but Johnson did state in an interview that the game would be finished some time in April. On the front page of Cliff Johnson's site (sorry, should have been more specific) [2], he explicitly states that the game is not finished as of today. Regardless, this will all be academic in 12 hours or so.
I don't see what's wrong with "Unknown" as the release date. After all, the last date is invalid and nothing new has been announced to replace it.Chunky Rice 23:23, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the link. Based on my read of it, he says, Above is a continuing progress report of my, um, progress. This will take a month or so and a thorough final beta test — and then to your doorstep! So maybe we should edit the article to say, "On April 30, Johnson once again changed the release date, saying, <quote>". --Elonka 02:19, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think that's fine for the body, but a bit long for the infobox.Chunky Rice 07:08, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well my gut says to put, "Permanently delayed."  ;) But perhaps that's not the most professional way to handle it. How about, "Behind schedule," "Delayed," "Multiple postponements," or "Originally scheduled for 2003, but not yet released"? --Elonka 16:15, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I guess "Delayed" would be fine with me. I still think that "Unknown" is the most descriptive NPOV thing that could go there, though. Hopefully it'll come out some day and then we can put this to bed.Chunky Rice 16:54, 1 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, "Delayed" works. --Elonka 16:00, 2 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Release history removed

[edit]

Why was the history of the release date schedule removed? That was the most interesting and informative material about the game. Tut21 (talk) 18:07, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thats a really good question, anybody have a screen cap that can repost it ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sremnes (talkcontribs) 22:27, 4 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It's easy enough to roll back the page and insert that text again. I just wanted to see what other people thought about it. I'd prefer to keep the long list of Cliff's broken promises on the page until the day he releases the game. Tut21 (talk) 04:38, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you. The long history of release dates is significant and should not be lost. OceanVortex (talk) 13:27, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Especially after the latest delay to October 2010. Fine, I'm going to put the release history back. After seven years this information *is* relevant and new potential customers should be aware of it. Tut21 (talk) 15:07, 5 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Now there is even a facebook page, for those that believe the games is just a hoax. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sremnes (talkcontribs) 18:36, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
While that is true, its only member is the creator, a Mr. Stig Remnes. Hey, that's you! 198.82.19.165 (talk) 16:13, 12 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
So far yes, btw, hello Cliff. When will you remove the list of lies again ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sremnes (talkcontribs) 08:18, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
