Umm...This film doesn't have a title. None of the sources provided state a title, and no source around the internet states a title. Therefore this draft shouldn't have been moved here. - adamstom97 (talk) 21:57, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Marvel Cinematic Universe?

I have a hard time believing this isn't going to be a Phase 3 MCU film. I was reading this and the Inquisitr says it is a Phase 3 film. Also, considering that Marvel pushed Black Panther, etc a few months back it only makes sense that it is a Phase 3 film. Or are we waiting until like Marvel unveils an "official list" of Phase 3 films? Eric - Contact me please. I prefer conversations started on my talk page if the subject is changed 21:04, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

I don't think inquisitr.com is exactly reliable but there is a RfC on matter at Talk:Marvel Cinematic Universe.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 21:08, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
There's a new interview with Kevin Feige in which he talks about Spidey in relation to the MCU. Not sure it's definitive proof the film is part of the MCU. Richiekim (talk) 20:09, 11 April 2015 (UTC)
And here's another interview with Feige. Here's a quote: “It will not be an origin story,“ Feige continued. “But, with great power comes great responsibility. It is inherent to who his character is. But we want to reveal it in different ways and spend much more time focusing on this young high school kid in the MCU dealing with his powers.” Richiekim (talk) 02:44, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

Production Info

I'm not sure if this belongs or not, but Amy Pascal's new company that will produce the new Spider-Man film is called Pascal Pictures and will be run by Rachel O'Connor. DinoSlider (talk) 03:44, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

My only question is it does not explicitly state the production label will be used on the Spider-Man film. We just know that Pascal is a producer, not that it is necessarily produced with her label (I guess that can be assumed but it is not stated). - Favre1fan93 (talk) 04:21, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
That is one of the reasons I started the talk entry instead of simply adding it. However, there are plenty of sources that state that she would be starting her own production company to produce movies (including Spider-Man) for Sony (examples here and here). The article currently states that Columbia Pictures will be a production company, yet I see no source for that. DinoSlider (talk) 12:25, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
Columbia is the production arm of Sony. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 03:24, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

Deadline and IGN have also reported the Goddard rumor.

Yes, they trace back to Latino-Review but it clearly widespread. If we do not include it now, how about mention the speculation AFTER he is confirmed as the director? Eric - Contact me please. I prefer conversations started on my talk page if the subject is changed 23:56, 2 March 2015 (UTC)

And if Dylan and Logan's involvement is rumor and speculation, then why are mentioning them? Eric - Contact me please. I prefer conversations started on my talk page if the subject is changed 23:57, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
That info is reported by a reliable source, and not stating it as fact (ie that they will be cast). They are saying they are under consideration, which the way it is mentioned here, does. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 00:03, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
Okay, how is this: Rumors report Drew Goddard is going to write the script and direct the film.Deadline sourceIGN sourceHollywood Report source? Ya know, exactly how my last attempt at that type of revision said but was reverted.Eric - Contact me please. I prefer conversations started on my talk page if the subject is changed 00:06, 3 March 2015 (UTC)
IGN source can't be used because the info/report trances back to Latino Review. (Think of it this way. Even if reliable sources report on this info, if they cite Latino Review as the source, the info is still unusable because Latino Review is unreliable.) I've just gotten back on the internet and haven't seen the Deadline or THR sources. Those can actually be used as follows: "In March 2015, Drew Goddard was being considered to write and direct the film. He was previously attached to Sony's Sinister Six film.[ref]"

This article states that Goddard is writing and directing the film, but it seems to me to be assumed simply because of the previous reports. Does anyone else have any thoughts on it? - adamstom97 (talk) 23:25, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

I think it is just on the previous reports. Nothing has been confirmed (through Marvel or a reliable trade). - Favre1fan93 (talk) 00:14, 13 April 2015 (UTC)

@Favre1fan93: Whedon seems to confirm the Goddard reports in this interview. - adamstom97 (talk) 09:25, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

I think it's iffy, given we don't know what Whedon meant by "talk about it". Does he mean actually talk about how he can sneak something in because he is writing, or how, if he did finalize the deal, some collaboration would work out? That's how I'm reading the quote, given the context. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 15:40, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

Marisa Tomei cast?

Superhero Hype says, "Spider-Man will be swinging back into theaters in next summer’s Captain America: Civil War, joining Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans in the May 6, 2016 release. Actor Tom Holland will star as the wall crawler and he’ll be joined by Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. Following that, Holland will star as Spider-Man in his own solo film set for release on July 28, 2017." Kailash29792 (talk) 04:40, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

I'm still leery on this, given that we have not heard anything either way regarding Tomei, and all the trades only indicated she was in negotiations. Now I feel we might have heard from them if the deal fell through, but the fact that we have not heard anything either way, especially from Marvel, makes me think we should still hold off. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 05:40, 19 October 2015 (UTC)
Forbes says, "We know that Cop Car director Jon Watts will be taking the helm, that Tom Holland will be playing Peter Parker, and that Marisa Tomei will be playing Aunt May." Kailash29792 (talk) 12:30, 7 November 2015 (UTC)
Again. Still thinking this is based on the initial reports. But others can weigh in. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 20:43, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

Jonathan Levina and Spiderman

Something new. Kailash29792 (talk) 03:29, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

I don't really seem much info that can be added. He is essentially saying what we have: he was in discussions, talks didn't really progress with him, and it ended up with Watts. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 06:02, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Title

GOTG2 production announcement says that the title is "Spider-Man". Mike210381 (talk) 15:48, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

I just hope that they aren't informally referring to it as simply "Spider-Man". Kailash29792 (talk) 16:48, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
It seems official and formal to me, it is formatted properly. I think they would have said Spider-Men reboot or something if this wasn't the title, at least for now. - adamstom97 (talk) 20:25, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
If Marvel.com is referring to it as such, I don't see a problem with changing the article title to Spider-Man (2017 film). @TriiipleThreat and Favre1fan93:, thoughts? - Richiekim (talk) 20:40, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
Agreed, and we can always change it if the need arises.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 20:52, 17 February 2016 (UTC)
Agreed with Adam's point on the formatting, and Richie and Triiiple's thought to adjust as needed should it arise. I did note in the article how this was revealed, that it was a release for GotG 2. Should the title change at all (to say the rumored Spider-Man: New Avengers), I'd say we scratch this info. But obviously should it arise. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 22:21, 17 February 2016 (UTC)

Working title

I can't remember if we have used this source before and/or if it is reliable. - adamstom97 (talk) 23:51, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

I think it was one not to use, just guide our searches and eyes on other sources. Also, where is Spider-Man's in this? Did you mean this for Iron Fist? - Favre1fan93 (talk) 04:48, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
All good, we'll just keep an eye out. I was looking at "Untitled Marvel/Sony Feature", but it's good to have Iron Fist too. - adamstom97 (talk) 05:47, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
Ah. I missed the Spider-Man one because it didn't have "Spider-Man" anywhere on the page. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:55, 12 March 2016 (UTC)

Erroneous Page

Someone jumped the gun and created Spiderman (2017 film). I pointed out the reasons why this was incorrect on that talk page, but I am unsure of the proper procedure to remedy the situation. Help? - DinoSlider (talk) 01:25, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

I've nominated it for speedy deletion. An Admin should come by soon to delete it. I'll also add our "notice" to the page once it is deleted to ensure it doesn't happen again. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:10, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

Potential title revealed

Per here, Sony has registered the domain "SpiderManHomecomingTheMovie", which could potentially be the full title of the film (so Spider-Man Homecoming or Spider-Man: Homecoming). Just to be safe, I'm going to make both redirects, and add them to my watch to ensure we don't have users trying to create the articles there. Should they turn out to not be the title (like Captain America: Serpent Society), we'll just have them deleted. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:28, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

As expected, Sony has registered several more domains. Sorry I don't have a link, but here are some more to watch out for: Coming of Age, Greatness Awaits, and Suspended. It is also worth noting that Sony is working on an animated Spider-Man movie as well. - DinoSlider (talk) 16:09, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for that info Dino. I'll personally hold off on redirecting all of those. (Someone else can if they wish.) We'll just keep our eyes peeled incase one does get created. But yeah, I'm sure one is the live action, and another may be the animated one. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 17:12, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
@Favre1fan93:, The Hollywood Reporter just tweeted that Spider-Man: Homecoming is the official title. Is this enough for a article rename? EDIT: Here's the THR article - Richiekim (talk) 04:48, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Yup. Thanks Richiekim. I'll get on taking care of the moves, if you want to start with in page links? - Favre1fan93 (talk) 04:54, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Filming start date

Filming will start by at least June 20, per this source noting how the film is starting to cast high school extras. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:12, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

Michael Keaton

Deadline says, "we’ve been told the deal has closed." Is that enough confirmation? - DinoSlider (talk) 19:55, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

I'm going to add it in. Someone else can change or adjust if they disagree. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 20:36, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

Filming

Is it known when this project will begin filming? I do know it has been scheduled to start this month (if it hasn't already), but it would help to have a specific date. Snuggums (talk / edits) 00:04, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

By at least June 20. See two threads above this. They are occupying the same studio (Pinewood Atlanta) as GotG 2, and they are finishing on June 17. They may have some stages they will share, but good indication is they will start on their own on the 20th once Guardians has cleared out. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 03:14, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
Additionally, I always make a "Filming checklist" post on the draft article talk about 7-10 days before the known date of filming, so all users watching are aware and know what has to be done to get the article in mainspace. So you can always watch for that. And I also just made this edit to Talk:Marvel Cinematic Universe/Drafts to show when the articles are planning to move. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 03:16, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
Not sure how I didn't notice that before, but thank you. Snuggums (talk / edits) 04:18, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

Marvel may completely reacquire Spider-Man?

THR says, "One knowledgeable source sees the move as a first step to Marvel reacquiring the rights to Spider-Man down the road, while another believes Disney is positioning itself to acquire Sony should it ever become available." Kailash29792 (talk) 11:20, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

How do you want to add this to this article? I don't see how this info should be added, plus it is not anything definite, just speculation/opinion. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 20:36, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

Continued white washing or pursuit of anti realism /anti authenticity

"Heroic Hollywood is reporting that 14-year-old New York actor Michael Barbieri, currently shooting The Dark Tower for Sony, has been cast as a character based on Ganke Lee in Sony and Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming, due for release on July 7, 2017.

It’s worth pointing out that in the comics, Ganke Lee is a heavy-set Korean-American teenager and is the best friend of Miles Morales, the popular half-black, half-Hispanic teen who becomes Spider-Man in Marvel’s “Ultimate” universe (which was folded in to the main Marvel Universe in 2015)." https://www.inverse.com/article/16605-marvel-casts-michael-barbieri-as-ganke-in-spider-man-homecoming — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.95.33.74 (talk) 05:33, 9 June 2016

Wait until we know what's actually happening. We do not include rumors about who each actor is playing. And Comicbook.com's source indicates an original character similar to Ganke, which doesn't rule out the possibility of the real Ganke appearing in a future film. Reach Out to the Truth 23:13, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
The director disproved this rumor on Twitter, adding to the reasons why you shouldn't jump to conclusions. - DinoSlider (talk) 12:24, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Laura Harrier is playing a classmate

Per Variety Rusted AutoParts 20:10, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Thanks Rusted AutoParts. That's the sourcing we needed (not the existing Harrier source from The Wrap). - Favre1fan93 (talk) 20:12, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Move to mainspace checklist

Hi all. Sorry for not adding this sooner. I've been a bit busy in life at the moment. Anyways, we are approaching the start of filming. If we don't hear anything in the next couple of days, the article should be moved on June 20, because we have this source stating filming with extras will begin then.

  1. Move to the mainspace! This can happen in two ways: contact an admin to perform the move (which requires the deletion of [the article] in the mainspace). User:Czar has been helpful in the past to moving the draft. OR place {{db-move|1=[draft page]|2=Filming has begun on the film, allowing it to enter the mainspace per [[WP:NFF]].}} at Spider-Man: Homecoming. DO NOT CUT AND PASTE!  Done
    1. If the moving admin does not do this, be sure to remove {{Draft article}} and unhide the categories.  Done
  2. Change the template at List of Marvel Cinematic Universe films section and Spider-Man in film#Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) from {{further}} to {{main}}.  Done
  3. Unhide the logo.  Done
  4. Fix redirects currently going to Spider-Man in film to the new mainspace article as seen here  Done
  5. Add the article link to all the nav boxes used in the article.  Done
  6. If Marvel provides us with a press release indicating filming starting, add any info from that to our respective pages (castings mainly).

- Favre1fan93 (talk) 20:42, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

@Favre1fan93, feel free to ping when you need the move czar 21:34, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
@Czar:, can you please make this move tomorrow whenever you get on? We have our source for filming beginning tomorrow (mostly extra shooting) so we are good on that front. Will obviously replace/update the sourcing should new ones come out. But we should be good to get this into the mainspace tomorrow. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:39, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
✓ done I am no longer watching this page—ping if you'd like a response czar 16:20, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

Stan Lee cameo?

Stan Lee revealed he was recently in Atlanta to film cameos for three films. Is it too much WP:OR or WP:SYNTH to say he has a cameo here, despite him not explicitly saying this film? This and Guardians 2 are the only Marvel films that are down in Atlanta now, so that covers two of the film. I feel trying to say what the third is (Doctor Strange, Ragnarok, or even Wolverine 3) would be the OR part. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 17:43, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

Does the timing seem a bit off though? They did only start filming today. - adamstom97 (talk) 20:43, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

Selenis Leyva cast

Set photos seem to show that Selenis Leyva has been cast in the film, potentially as one of Parker's teachers. Just wanted to note so we can be on the look out for reputable sources confirming this. Hopefully Marvel and Sony gets this cast list out soon, and isn't going to hold off until Comic Con in a month. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 18:18, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

Deadline sourcing

There seems to be difficulty in way of adding info based off Deadline sourcing. Deadline has been used and considered one of the most reliable sources to use when it comes to casting. Why are we questioning their inclusion of info like Logan Marshall-Green being in the film and Keaton playing Vulture? Deadline a lot of the time is the lead breaker of film news such as this. If Marshall-Green wasn't confirmed for it, they wouldn't have include him as a "recent addition to the cast". Rusted AutoParts 04:50, 22 June 2016 (UTC)

I hope they are not following fruit of the poisonous tree. Kailash29792 (talk) 04:55, 22 June 2016 (UTC)
THR had the exclusive on Marshall-Green, which stated he was in negotiations. Variety also backed up this report as being in negotiations. As for the Vulture, Deadline first reported this role as such for Keaton, from sources which makes a difference, and have apparently stuck with it. It has not been confirmed yet that this is the role he has. See Russell as supposedly Quill's father in GotG 2 as an example. The trades all said sources stated that was his role, yet Marvel did not reveal that, and at this point, it looks like it isn't his role. We are in no rush, especially since we know a press release is on the way with casting info since filming has started. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 00:56, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
But THR included Marshall-Green amongst the other named castmembers in their Mando announcement, no indication negotiations were still ongoing. They'd either indicate that or not include Marshall-Green at all. Rusted AutoParts 01:27, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
I still feel it is a case similar to Tomei, but I've properly sourced it as you changed it in the article. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 02:00, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
I know I came off as annoying here, it's just I firmly believe that if he was still negotiating, then Hollywood Reporter and Deadline wouldn't have included him with the likes of Holland, Tomei, Zendaya, Downey, etc. But then again, nothing with Marvel is official until they themselves confirm. Rusted AutoParts 02:13, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
Equally from myself as well. It just gets super frustrating, this film in particular this, with all these castings being revealed and Marvel has been completely quiet. At least give us the confirmation, ya know!? We've gotten a new casting reveal at least everyday for like the past week. Give us the press release Marvel! - Favre1fan93 (talk) 03:43, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

Creative control

According to Marvel's initial press statement, "Sony Pictures will continue to finance, distribute, own and have final creative control of the Spider-Man films". But more recently, Rothman has stated that Sony has deferred creatively to Marvel. Does this mean that Sony no longer has creative control, or has less of it than Marvel? Kailash29792 (talk) 06:24, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

Sony still has final creative control, it is their movie, but for now they have essentially stepped aside and let Marvel take over the production for them. So Sony has all the control, but Marvel is the one doing all the creating at the moment. - adamstom97 (talk) 10:58, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
This may sound off topic, but I think the film should have been titled "Spider-Man: Parole", given the rights situation. Kailash29792 (talk) 14:19, 3 July 2016 (UTC)

& vs and

Is there a reason, a guideline, that says WGA writing credits are the reason why Wikipedia should use an ampersand (this thing: &), instead of the word "and"? As far as I know, content is based upon reliable sources. What makes the WGA writing credits somehow more important? soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 15:52, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

@Favre1fan93:, judging by the edit history, I think this was your work. Could you point to the Wikipedia guideline that says that we should follow suit how the WGA credits writers? soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 15:55, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
I think "&" represents a duo of people with equal measure (like Simon & Garfunkel) while "and" is equal to "featuring" (as in Akon feat. Eminem). Kailash29792 (talk) 15:56, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
And the word "and" doesn't imply equal measure? You're comparing musical acts (which are often signed a group, together) with screenwriters. There is an article on Chris McKenna, not on Erik Sommers. By Wikipedia's rules on notability, McKenna is notable enough, Sommers isn't. Regardless, I'm asking why Favre1fan93 considers the WGA to be the style guide on Wikipedia articles. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 16:00, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
I didn't necessarily mean equal measure, but I thought "&" signifies an official partnership between people, even outside music. Kailash29792 (talk) 16:42, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
To be clear, the WGA does not say to use an ampersand instead of the word "and". They mean different things. As stated above, the ampersand indicates writers who worked together as a team, while the word "and" indicates writers who worked on the same script, but individually (typically at completely separate times in the process). This seems like a distinction worth noting and it is most likely easier and less cumbersome to adhere to this standard than to try to indicate it in prose every time. - DinoSlider (talk) 17:02, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
Please see this article Soetermans regarding what the "&" and "and" means in a film's billing block, in relation to the writers and WGA writing credits. WP:& tells us the word and should be used instead of the ampersand (&)... [but to] Retain ampersands in titles of works or organizations (ellipses and bracket text added, italics original). As indicated by the article linked, listing on this article the writers as "Jonathan M. Goldstein, John Francis Daley, Watts, Christopher Ford, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers" would be incorrectly portraying the information to the reader because the writers listed as I just did, indicates that all were individual writers on the project, which is not the case (we have a source of the correct way in the article). By using the "&" and "and"s, it indicates to the reader who the writing teams were that, together, collaborated on the film. I hope that clears it up. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 02:55, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
FYI, here is the official explanation from the WGA. - DinoSlider (talk) 04:10, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
WP:& starts with: In normal text and headings, the word and should be used instead of the ampersand (&). This is normal text, not a title, and it isn't an "organization" either. If two writers work together for a project, that does not make the two writers a single unit right away. Hall & Oates, sure. Daryl Hall & John Oates, nope. Wikipedia is written for a general audience, so how would the average reader know what the use of an ampersand means in this context? I can't tell from reading the lead that different writers collaborated together at the same time by the use of an ampersand. soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 08:36, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

Confirmation that The Vulture will indeed by played by Michael Keaton in Spider-Man: Homecoming

We have official confirmation from the Marvel Latina Twitter page that Michael Keaton will indeed play the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Here is the link for proof:

Twitter confirmation: https://twitter.com/marvellatam/status/758029136606748673

P.S. If you have the Twitter app, once u translate the Latin language to English, it'll say Michael Keaton incarnates Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.70.141.201 (talk) 22:53, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

Collider also confirms Keaton as Vulture: here and here. - Richiekim (talk) 02:26, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
Playing devil's advocate, here's a good reason from Newsarama for holding off (though that is an opinion piece, it is food for thought). Additionally, even thought the Marvel Latina Twitter is verified, there is still the fact that Marvel.com's SDCC announcement article did not equate Keaton to Vulture, where it would have been the perfect opportunity too. So for me, I'd hold back some per WP:NORUSH. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 02:41, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
Also, FWIW, in the first Collider source Richie provided (this one), both Frosty (interviewer) and Watts only say "Vulture" in the video interview and nothing about Keaton. As well, if you watch that interview after reading the Newsarama article I posted, it seems more plausible that Newsarama is on to something regarding the Vulture not being Adrian Toomes. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 04:24, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Zendaya and Mary Jane Watson

TheWrap source that broke this can not be used as a source given their wording. The article states: "Zendaya will be playing long-time Spider-Man love interest Mary Jane Watson in next summer’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” two individuals with knowledge of the project told TheWrap." The "two individuals with knowledge of the project" wording fails WP:SPECULATION. Of note, the "scoop" is from Umberto "El Mayambe" Gonzalez, of Latino-review/Heroic Hollywood (both are not reliable sources). While we can't judge the author of reliable source sites (which TheWrap is), again it is the wording in said article that prevents it from being used. However, if another trade publication gets this info, and independently confirms this without attributing the reporting from TheWrap (per WP:FRUIT), it can be added. But for now, as always, we are in no rush. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 02:49, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

There were a couple idiots who keep changing Michelle to Mary Jane at the time the rumor was released. S hannon434 (talk) 03:22, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Though this may sound off-topic, I hope that Zendaya plays a different character ("Michelle" being a mere codename), so that directors can experiment with Peter having more than just one love interest. MJ and Gwen have already been experimented with, so I thought Felicia Hardy or anyone else may be next. Kailash29792 (talk) 03:29, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
There are more things pointing to this being false than true at the moment, so I think you're good Kailash. And S hannon434. Please don't use personal attacks about editors (ie "idiots"). The edits were in good faith as TheWrap is a reliable source. Vulture.com has an article in which that their own sources say that Zendaya being MJ was supposed to a secret revealed halfway in the film. - Richiekim (talk) 05:43, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
That just says Michelle's real identity was a twist meant to be confirmed near the end of the film when she would finally invite Peter to call her "M.J.," which doesn't mean she is Mary Jane Watson. She can still be "M.J." and be named Michelle. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 15:52, 19 August 2016 (UTC)
Devin Faraci seems to corroborate this, that Zendaya character's name is not Mary Jane, but seems to be inspired by the Mary Jane character from the comics. - Richiekim (talk) 16:42, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
That's a good article to have here, to also add to the fact that this rumor is probably false. Thanks for the find Richie. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 23:32, 21 August 2016 (UTC)

Keep our eyes out...

With the largest grain of salt ever, a "leaked" cast list has some potentially useful info for us to keep our eyes out for reliable sources on this. Some of this seemingly confirms rumors that have been swirling, but again, this can't be used to cite anything here. I'm not going to list anything from the image, but there are definitely some good things to come out of that list IMO (looking at you Kenneth Choi). - Favre1fan93 (talk) 03:11, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Image link seems to be broken. Nothing shows up when I click on the image. Also, have you seen the set photos portraying The Shocker in costume? Npamusic (talk) 03:09, 6 September 2016 (UTC)
The principal being a descendant of Jim Morita would make more for why the two have a same actor. Buress' character is indeed confirmed to be a gym teacher/coach, and Shocker has been seen in the set. The call sheet information seems to be true so far (and I hope it is), but not yet counted as a reliable source under Wikipedia rules, am I right? CAJH (talk) 07:58, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

Jon Favreau's involvement

Not sure yet if his role as Happy Hogan in the film will be prominent enough to have the role descriptions that the title character, Iron Man, Aunt May, Flash Thompson, and others are given, but this interview provides some interesting commentary on his involvement that could be useful for the future. I know editors have been hesitant to confirm Michael Keaton is playing the Vulture without official confirmation. Kevin Feige confirms in this interview that Keaton is playing The Vulture. http://www.torontosun.com/2016/11/02/marvels-kevin-feige-on-doctor-strange-replacing-downey-and-the-blueprint-for-the-mcu

"collection two prelude issues"

What exactly did Favre mean to say through this edit? Did he mean something like "A two-issue tie-in comic" or something else? Because "collection two prelude issues" is confusing to me. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:06, 11 November 2016 (UTC)

Multiple "Shockers" possible?

Expanding on the note added to discourage adding Herman Schultz to Woodbine's character, per this Newsarama slide (#10 if it doesn't load directly) examining the trailer, they are hypothesizing that there could be two characters known as Shocker in the film, or could potentially be the name of a gang of criminals. Also, that leaked call sheet from a while back, had Woodbine listed as "Shocker #2" which adds a bit to the theory. All in all, the point being is until a sources comes out explicitly stating Woodbine is Schultz, he could be playing another character that character that takes the Shocker name. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 22:27, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

I agree, the trailer seems to indicate that there are at least two guys with weapons and clothing inspired by the Shocker. - adamstom97 (talk) 22:39, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
Plus, there's already precedent for a Shocker who is not Herman Schultz. In the animated series The Spectacular Spider-Man, he's Montana of the Enforcers. Until it's confirmed, we can't say for sure. Reach Out to the Truth 00:25, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

Why the Vulture costume was made so tech-based

As told by Jon Watts to Collider.com. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:34, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

What Watts says seems to be mostly plot info, IE how the suit comes to be the way it is. So that can be handled by the plot section when that time comes. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 17:05, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

Cast/Characters

Shouldn't the CAST section just mention and say the cast? Shouldn't a CHARACTERS section be made for the huge info dump that has been done for the many cast members wherein it is essentially info and quotes about the character? I don't think it should be combined like this... What say others...Tobiasthered (talk) 02:52, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

No. The cast is a summary of the actors playing the characters of the film. Information for both cast and characters go there. Its a cast of characters, so to speak. Rusted AutoParts 03:01, 11 April 2017 (UTC)
For more info, see WP:FILMCAST. - DinoSlider (talk) 03:05, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

Chris Evans

Since he appeared in the latest trailer, should we include Chis Evans as Captain America in the Cast section, even though he hasn't been officially confirmed? - Richiekim (talk) 15:30, 28 March 2017 (UTC)

Yes, but with a better source than comicbook.com. --Kailash29792 (talk) 15:35, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
Didn't see this discussion before I added the info, but I'll replace the Comicbook.com source with the Express, as it is better all around for the info. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:54, 28 March 2017 (UTC)
Why can't we specify that Captain America appears in a fitness video for the gym class, as confirmed by the trailer itself? Martin Starr's role is specified just based on his own comments in interviews. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.102.71.136 (talk) 00:26, 19 April 2017 (UTC)
Technically speaking, we don't know from a reliable source that the video is his only appearance, so it may be original research to call it a cameo since the source simply states that he appears. - DinoSlider (talk) 13:54, 19 April 2017 (UTC)

With this edit, my bundling was removed by Adamstom.97. They justified this with the summary "we don't do this", but I think this is a valid example of WP:BUNDLING. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 15:28, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

A vast majority of these references can be removed, to leave either 1 or 2. I'm going to undo the bundling edit and will look through them to remove excessive (it may be in a day or two, but it will get done). - Favre1fan93 (talk) 16:01, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Cameos need credit

As depicted in the newest Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer, there will be a sequence of the final scenes from Captain America: Civil War, depicting the events from Spider-Man's point-of-view. As seen in the trailer multiple MCU characters appear in the sequence. This should be noted in the cast/character's section as they are cameos.--50.232.205.246 (talk) 18:54, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

Actually, I believe we only need to credit these appearances if the actors shot new footage. Archival footage may be noted, but it does not count as an appearance. -RM (talk) 20:49, 27 May 2017 (UTC)
No. Archival footage or not it's from a distance. It could be a recreation of the scene with new actors. It's not proof Evans, Johansson, Cheadle and Boseman were on the Homecoming set at that point. Rusted AutoParts 20:56, 27 May 2017 (UTC)

Spider-Man: Homecoming runtime revealed

Event Cinemas, which got the runtimes of Civil War, Days of Future Past, Guardians of the Galaxy 1, Rogue One and Ant-Man correct, have revealed the runtime of Spider-Man: Homecoming to be 130 minutes (2 hours and 10 minutes) long, as long as Iron Man 3: https://www.eventcinemas.com.au/Movie/Spider-Man-Homecoming.

Can we please add this to the movie's wiki page? Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.242.120.51 (talk) 00:47, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Runtimes should be added and sourced from a classification site (such as the BBFC) over cinema and ticketing sites, as those tend to vary each by a couple of minutes. WP:NORUSH. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 02:52, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

Premiere - NYC or LA?

The current source we have is the terms and conditions for a content with Goodwill that indicates the grand prize to include "tickets to the Picture premiere, if held on June 28, 2017 in New York City for Grand Prize Winner". I just came across another Sony-sponsored sweepstakes directly related to the premiere, here. In these terms, it states, "The Grand Prize will consist of a trip (“Trip”) for the eligible Grand Prize Winner and one (1) travel companion to Los Angeles, CA (“LA”) the opportunity to attend the premiere (“Premiere”), if held, of the Picture... It is anticipated that Premiere will take place on 6/28/17 but is subject to change." So I'm wondering if we should include both (as in simultaneous premieres), or just wait for a better source to come around for the "actual" one. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 17:43, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

I would say that we should remove the current one and wait for a better source. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 18:57, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
Downey also said LA premiere is Wednesday June 28 here (about 17:45ish) mark. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 19:28, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
I wasn't aware of that. In that case I would say that we should go with the LA location for now then. Also a close reading of the first two sources reveals that they use the word "if", implying that it isn't decided yet. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 19:59, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
It ended up being LA. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 22:09, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

Writing teams

Do we really have to write the screenplay writers' names in the order that they're in right now? I don't think it's important to have it that way in the lead sentence. They should at least be written that way in the "Production" section instead. Tjdrum2000 (talk) 22:14, 26 June 2017 (UTC)

Captain America

I've edited this article a few times saying that Chris Evans reprises his role in old educational videos watched by Peter and his classmates, but it keeps getting reverted to "in archival footage from Civil War." Chris Evans does appear in archival footage from the airport battle, but he also shot wholly new footage specifically for Homecoming, and the article should reflect that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.102.71.136 (talk) 23:40, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

Please do not add wikilinks for Sally, Seymour, Abraham, Cindy, Charles or Tiny. Doing so is WP:OR and WP:SYNTH because they are neither credited with full names, nor are full names shown in the film or are they called by them. A reliable source would need to be provided stated that they are indeed these characters, NOT speculating they are their comic counterparts. As with Ned and Liz, many of these characters share similar names to the comic counterparts, but are amalgamations of various characters and may not because them. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 19:36, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

Also @Erik:, I have decided to use information in the article. Would you be able to make an archive of the article with WebCitation or Archive.org for me? - Favre1fan93 (talk) 22:29, 14 July 2017 (UTC)
Don't think having a subscription will matter for archiving, the archiver just uses the link not Erik's subscription. Darkwarriorblake / SEXY ACTION TALK PAGE! 22:38, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

Cool. Thanks @Darkwarriorblake:. And archive.is is okay to use again? I know we had all those RfCs about it not being okay. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 22:47, 14 July 2017 (UTC)
I've added the archive.is archive, because I checked Archive.org and it was not appearing properly, and I know anything from WebCitation.org will not produce positive results. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 23:54, 14 July 2017 (UTC)
It is per Wikipedia:Archive.is RFC 4. -- Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 11:08, 15 July 2017 (UTC)

Ned / Jacob Batalon

Please add "Jacob Batalon" who portrayed "Ned" to the cast list. Being that he is Peter Parker's best friend and the only one that knows his secret, he was the second most important character in the movie and it's odd that he was left out of this list. Soso694 (talk) 03:53, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

Second most important character was Tony Stark or Vulture. Perspective is everything. Oppose, continue to follow billing.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Darkwarriorblake (talkcontribs) 09:43, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
Not done: per Darkwarriorblake. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 18:43, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
Looking at the Wikipedia Manual of Style entry on films, I think this is a poor choice -- [Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Film#Cast|see here]. It mentions "the prominence of the cast in the film" as a key factor in presentation, which the character of Ned certainly lives up to. Batalon's role has far more screen time, dialogue, and impact on the film than Zendaya's character, for example. She gets higher billing because of previous acting roles and her music career, not because of her prominence in this film. (Her character is likely to be far more significant in sequels, of course). I would edit this myself, but I'm not completely familiar with the etiquette around semi-protected edit requests. -Dayv (talk) 06:01, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
We follow the billing precisely because a person's individual attribution of screen time or prominence of an actor is just that, individual. The billing removes edit warring over it. Plus that character was awful. Darkwarriorblake / SEXY ACTION TALK PAGE! 09:41, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

From what I saw in the movie, Toomes deliberately kills Brice while this article currently says he accidentally did it. Based on this please make the following change in the PLOT section Paragraph 2 last sentence:

From

Toomes accidentally kills Brice with one of their weapons, and Schultz becomes the new Shocker.

To

Toomes kills Brice with one of their weapons when they enter a heated argument about not using the weapons so openly while demoing to potential customers and Brice threatens to tell Toomes' wife about their covert business. Schultz becomes the new Shocker. Azzassfa (talk) 15:56, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. The reason I say this is because we do not accept WP:OR. jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 16:44, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
Also, it is an accident, because Toomes thought he had picked up a non-lethal weapon when he fired it at Brice. - adamstom97 (talk) 22:30, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
while it is true that Toomes killing Brice is an accident, can it be changed to this-

Toomes kills Brice with one of their weapons, and Schultz becomes the shocker

Suggestion for how we could improve the article

I feel like the best way we could improve this article is if we refer to the main character a bit by his first name and a bit by his last name. Yes, nearly all articles for Marvel Cinematic Universe movies and TV shows often refer to the characters by their last names even though some of them usually go by their forenames (and on the rare occasion codenames), but the article for Spider-Man: Homecoming is strange in that not only is Peter Parker referred to constantly by his last name, but he's a teenager and therefore predominantly goes by his first name IN THE MOVIE. My proposal for how we could make the article better may not be one you guys would agree with, but I really think it might work well.--TheRocknRollPat (talk) 14:16, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

Per MOS:SURNAME, subjects should generally be referred by their last name.--TriiipleThreat (talk) 14:44, 7 August 2017 (UTC)
@TriiipleThreat: True, but from what I can recall, the Manual of Style doesn't mention anything about how to refer to fictional characters.--TheRocknRollPat (talk) 01:53, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
It does not specify, which means that it applies to both real and fictional people. It is an encyclopedic approach. - DinoSlider (talk) 02:47, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
@DinoSlider: Okay, NOW I understand! Thanks for telling me!--TheRocknRollPat (talk) 18:46, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
Actually, I don't think I understand. TheRocknRollPat (talk) 06:13, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
MOS:SURNAME refers to people, which we apply to fictional people as well since there is no separate guideline for them. - adamstom97 (talk) 22:29, 26 August 2017 (UTC)

addition of post credits scene

I am adding the Captain America post credits scene to the plot since it is necessary to mention this detail. The post credits scenes have become a tradition for the MCU and not mentioning them does not provide whether there is a post credits scene or not. also while it doesnt add anything to the story, similar conditions have come forth in previous MCU film plots, where the post credits scene is mentioned no matter what the context. I hope you fellow wikipedians understand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Callmeanidiot (talkcontribs) 20:35, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Ned Lee

Character confirmed to be a composite of Ned Leeds and Ganke Lee below.

I did do a lot of reading,” Batalon says about the comics. “I really liked Ganke. Ned’s more just like a gallery person, but we put them together. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lawmaker No. 1 (talkcontribs) 22:20, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

It's hardly "confirmed." Just because that's how the actor approached the role doesn't mean that's what the filmmakers have in mind. --Tenebrae (talk) 22:22, 9 October 2017 (UTC)
Agree with above. Tomei identifies as May being an aunt by marriage[3], wheras the Russos seem to identify with her being a maternal aunt as mentioned in the article. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 22:29, 9 October 2017 (UTC)

Continuity error

Should we write "Two months after the events of Captain America: Civil War" instead of "Eights years later" because we know it's a continuity error. Enjoyer of World (talk) 23:39, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

We go by what is stated in film, not what we feel is or isn't a continuity error. It isn't an error if it was never explicitly stated otherwise (it hasn't been). - Favre1fan93 (talk) 01:19, 12 October 2017 (UTC)
Marvel commissioned a timeline to be created and used it when creating this film. Clearly Marvel does not see it as an error, they simply made different assumptions than the fans. Recent quotes from Feige suggest that they will release their timeline to the public. See here. - DinoSlider (talk) 13:27, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

GA nomination

This is just a reminder that this article has until November 17, 2017 (one month after the physical home media release) to be nominated for GA, per the guidelines established since this is part of the MCU films Good Topic. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 23:17, 13 October 2017 (UTC)

Home release date

The date is only accurate for the US. Other countries got fucked over, as usual. UK isn't out until late November, for example. I'd edit it in myself, but page is protected. --86.144.108.189 (talk) 13:37, 27 October 2017 (UTC)

This is an American movie, so any unspecified dates are for America. - adamstom97 (talk) 19:06, 27 October 2017 (UTC)

change in plot

there is a section in the plot which goes as follows

"Toomes accidentally kills Brice with one of their weapons, and Schultz becomes the new Shocker."

can the following be changed to

"Toomes kills Brice with one of their weapons, and Schultz becomes the new Shocker"

since that much detail is not necessary. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Idiotaddy (talkcontribs) 13:35, 26 November 2017 (UTC)

"that much detail"? One word is hardly much added detail. - adamstom97 (talk) 04:57, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

Spin-offs

I had added a section below "Sequels" titled "Spin-offs". The final word on what was originally announced as "Sony's Marvel Universe" is that each of the spin-off films about Spider-Man characters takes place "in the same reality" as the rest of the MCU. In the section I explained Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige's official statement: that though the films aren't being developed by Marvel Studios, they are as Amy Pascal stated 'adjunct' to the MCU. In the same interview Pascal clarified what her confusing declarations were a month before - that the spin-offs are a part of the MCU, but will not have crossovers therein (think of the Marvel TV shows for this). Upon finishing my thorough elaboration on the topic, with multiple reliable sources and editor reverted my edits without any explanation. I am coming here so that anyone who thinks it shouldn't be included can state why. --DisneyMetalhead (talk) 04:36, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

This has been widely discussed, and you are well aware of that Disney. The consensus appears to be that Marvel aren't going to acknowledge these films, so the MCU articles probably shouldn't either. And even if they were confirmed to be in the same shared universe, we would not include them here. Does the Iron Man article end with every other MCU film listed? Does the Avengers article end with Iron Man 3 and Thor 2, etc.? This is not the place for this information, no matter which way you look at it. - adamstom97 (talk) 20:27, 2 December 2017 (UTC)
User:Adamstom.97 - Regardless of your Iron Man 3 example - the studio sees them as spin-offs, and the reason they have been in development now is because of Spider-Man: Homecoming's successes. Whether you use the word "adjunct", or acknowledge the fact that they are "in the same reality" --- no other studios' superhero films have been given that acknowledgement. The films are MCU films, just as Netflix's shows are in the MCU. A spin-off section here wouldn't be wrong to say the least.--DisneyMetalhead (talk) 00:53, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
The studio actually considers them to be separate franchises. They are definitely not being referred to as spin-offs from this film. - adamstom97 (talk) 01:58, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
