Cleanup needed?

[edit]

I have noticed that user 67.188.172.165 (talk · contribs) has placed a cleanup tag on this article. It would be helpful if more details on why this article requires cleanup are given; so these issues can be addressed and possibly a more specific tag can be placed on the article. I wanted the formatting fixed. Thank you. 67.188.172.165 16:56, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have moved the images around, this hopefully resolves the formatting issues by removing the huge amount of white space. Camaron1 | Chris 17:38, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. 192.235.1.34 20:04, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is this Nintendo 64 version of Sim City the same as the one mentioned in the article? According to this site this version was released in 2000, not 1997. The 64DD was never released outside of Japan and 64DD games were never emulated, so that is why it could be generally unheard of. The game looks stunning though, looks like the only true 3D version of Sim City ever made, I just don't know enough about it to know how to work it into the article JayKeaton 07:08, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, here it is SimCity 64. This page seems pretty much orphaned to the Sim City pages, I'll add it now. JayKeaton 07:13, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Simcity 5

[edit]

Simcity 5 most definately will not be coming out this year ca. 2007. Thus I have changed the date for that title. It's release will likely coincide with that of Sims 3 as both will have connectivity to each other, and Sims 3 is slated for late 2008 or early 2009. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.49.194.145 (talk)

As far as I can see it really is not clear when SimCity 5 is going to be released - the source provided is not clear on the matter; in fact it only says that it is a "new SimCity game", not necessarily SimCity 5. I am starting to think that estimating a release date for SimCity 5 in this article is speculation, and might be better as "To be announced" until such a time when there is a full SimCity 5 confirmation. Fair use rationale for Image:SimCity Hamburg.gif

[edit]

Image:SimCity Hamburg.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Successful good article nomination

[edit]

I am glad to report that this article nomination for good article status has been promoted. This is how the article, as of March 20, 2008, compares against the six good article criteria:

1. Well written?: Pass
2. Factually accurate?: Pass
3. Broad in coverage?: Pass
4. Neutral point of view?: Pass
5. Article stability? Pass
6. Images?: Fair Use (Video Game)

The discussion took place here If you feel that this review is in error, feel free to take it to Good article reassessment. Thank you to all of the editors who worked hard to bring it to this status, and congratulations.— - Milk's Favorite Cookie 21:43, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article fails to be comprehensive as it does not cover SimCopter and Streets of SimCity, also there is no reception or legacy section. Also there are too many fair use images and several of them lacks rationales. --Mika1h (talk) 22:07, 20 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

new Sim City game for the PC?

[edit]

Anyone know if EA will ever create a new Sim City game for the PC platform?!?CapnZapp (talk) 14:53, 3 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please remember that talk pages are only for discussion on improving the article. In answer to your question though, none that I know of at present, though Cities XL is in development which fills a similar niche to SimCity. Camaron | Chris (talk) 13:51, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

History of the simcity franchise?

[edit]

This article needs a section that is about the simcity franchise history —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dan96kid (talkcontribs) 16:47, 7 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The only thing I know is that it was made by Maxis. (Bought by Electronic Arts) Dadapotato (talk) 17:13, 17 September 2014 (UTC)DadapotatoDadapotato (talk) 17:13, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Simcity 2000 Console Version

[edit]

In addition to the "classic" simcity being released for SNES, simcity 2000 was as well. The Simcity 2000 article also mentions versions for other consoles. I would figure they deserve a spot, at least in aggregate, in the "Console Versions" section. --Cosmicosmo (talk) 06:04, 5 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reference to Bay Area as inspiration???

[edit]

The fourth paragraph seems completely contrived by someone from the Bay Area who wants to believe that the area somehow was the inspiration for the game. How is beginning with a blank field specific to the Bay Area? I fail to see how any of the game is heavily influenced by 20th-century California development. Unless specific sources can be identified supporting this theory, I say it should be removed. The tools available in the game aren't specific to any region of the country. 76.23.212.191 (talk) 17:04, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the sentence. It does seem strangely specific and I don't recall ever reading that Bay Area was the inspiration for the game or any significant part of its assets. I can't find any sources to support this either. —  HELLKNOWZ  ▎TALK 17:54, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Importing of Cities to Each Edition

[edit]

Should some note be included in the synopsis of each of the main PC editions of SimCity to include the ability to import a city created in the previous edition? I know SC2000 allowed players to import their cities from the original by loading the .cty file and converting it. The same for SC3000 with SC2000 cities. However, I am not sure if SC4 allowed players to import their SC3000 cities. Naturally Societies and SC2013 do not allow this.

There are SC3 files from SC3K and some SC3 files from SC3U. They are not compatible and lots of things will disappear. Dadapotato (talk) 17:09, 17 September 2014 (UTC)DadapotatoDadapotato (talk) 17:09, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Orion 3k Extended Boundary for SimCity 5

[edit]

There is now a project called Orion 3k Extended Boundary to expand 3 times the city. There are now some problems about it like: - can't remove trees - only with offline mode - limit of 4096 buildings, 1024 roads and 2048 RCI (Residential, Commercial, Industrial Zones) - too slow for computer: pushing computer limits - maps problem

The advantages: - more space - 2 ways to enter the city - can have higher population and money [1]

Fan sites and their material are usually not very notable. Would need 3rd party reliable source coverage. DP76764 (Talk) 18:16, 16 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The extension was made by fans... Electronic Arts did not make this extension. Dadapotato (talk) 11:55, 17 September 2014 (UTC)DadapotatoDadapotato (talk) 11:55, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That is true, but until reliable sources cover them, individual mods for games are not very notable. Pinkbeast (talk) 14:15, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Do I need to remove what I've written? Dadapotato (talk) 17:06, 17 September 2014 (UTC)DadapotatoDadapotato (talk) 17:06, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No, as a potential item for the page if it receives coverage in reliable sources, it is a sensible thing to be on the talk page. Pinkbeast (talk) 17:08, 17 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

SimCity 2000 Special Edition

Requested move 4 February 2015

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Not moved. czar  02:29, 16 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

– I'm not sure if the video game series as a whole is more notable than its first and fifth synonymous titles. Given that the fifth installment, SimCity (2013 video game) had so much controversial news reports, and SimCity (1989 video game) still seems quite notable to the word itself, I'm not sure. (This is, more or less, an attempt to form consensus to either enforce of remove the series as the primary topic; I'm not strong on an opinion either way, so am thus neutral. In other words, if no one comments on this, I'd rather it not be moved, but still really don't feel strongly either way.) --Relisted. Discussion

[edit]

Reliating. While on first glance there's a strong consensus against the move, nom has asked a good question and not one of the three oppose votes has addressed it in terms of the primary topic guideline. Andrewa (talk) 00:21, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. I think the difficulty with picking either the first or fifth installment is, well, with picking one. Neither could be definitively said to be the "primary topic" - the first game was innovative at the time but now is mainly relevant as giving birth to the series and the genre, and the fifth game's notoriety may fade. If the page isn't about the series, no matter which installment it's about, some readers will say "wait, no, not _that_ one!" Pinkbeast (talk) 14:12, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

New screenshots needed

[edit]

How can an article about SimCity only have one screenshot, and, worse, a black&white one? I've linked Baidu Maps to SimCity to show the similarity in pixel art, but the SimCity article does the comparison a disservice. -- Dandv(talk|contribs) 22:21, 5 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

To even have the one image probably fails WP:NFCC and should thus be removed. If you need to link a to b, you should probably link to the specific game for which the art matches rather than the series article. --Izno (talk) 22:31, 6 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

SimCity Buildit is not a computer pc game or a console video game.

[edit]

suggested edit/or update to wiki: simcity; SimCity is an open-ended city-building computer, mobile app and console video game series originally designed by developer Will Wright. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.144.112.113 (talk) 08:46, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nah. A mobile game is still a videogame, and if they did SimCity mugs we wouldn't call it "an open-ended city-building computer, mobile app, and console video game series with mugs". Pinkbeast (talk) 14:39, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested restructure

[edit]

Hi there. I think this article could benefit from a bit of a restructure. This would largely involve:

  • Expansion of gameplay section
  • "Personal Computer Versions" adapted into a "Development History" section akin to that present in Doom (franchise) (which I recently wrote) along with other long running video game franchise articles.
  • Development history section to feature distinct time periods, with other critical production pieces such as staffing changes, development disputes and so forth.
  • Merger of side games into the new development history section- so the SNES port of Sim City is discussed in a few lines at the end of the bit about the main game for example.
  • List of games for navigability towards end.
  • Major expansion of reception section, perhaps with a table breaking down game by game.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? --ERAGON (talk) 11:57, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'm going to go ahead and make the changes. --ERAGON (talk) 17:29, 12 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Restructure complete. I may tweak bits and bobs here and there but the above is by and large fixed.--ERAGON (talk) 17:06, 15 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
