Talk:Shattered Union

[edit]I sure hope everyone likes my article. It took me 2 weeks and some help from a friend to get this article up and running. If you have any questions my name is Mike15.

Article
[edit]I'm sure people have already noticed this, but some of the text here comes from the website itself. 72.197.135.10 05:50, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
One More Thing
[edit]Oh, I forgot to say: In case you are wondering, yes it does seem like a video game guide. But, it is my first article, so please, cut me a little slack. It took me 2 weeks and I am still waiting to write in a new Overview/Storyline to make it complete. As soon as I print it out, I will move on to another article, improving as I go along. Thank you for those who like my 1st article.

Removing another user's commentary because it was critical of your writing is idiotic. --161.38.223.244 19:12, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
Oh, look who's talking. Go to history and find you work was deleted!

This article reads like an advertisement and needs a major overhaul from someone famililar with wikistandards and the game. --J. Ustano Therguy
Yo, I think its pretty good, especially since it contains the back story, info on the factions, and that since no one else stepped up to make one, its pretty good in all. Good work man! The Architect 01 20:04, 21 November 2006 (UTC)
Officially Available
[edit]Shattered Union is now officially available. Have fun and edit my article's list if you find anything else that I didn't put.

- Hello, Mike15. I had to delete the overview section, because most or all of it appeared to have been copied from other websites (e.g. [1]). Please take the time to read Wikipedia's page on copyright and make sure no other text or image you used is copyrighted. Then, have fun continuing to work on the article! -- Sandstein 18:11, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
- And one more thing: The wallpaper images you uploaded say that "This image is copyrighted. The copyright holder allows anyone to use it for any purpose." Frankly, I doubt that this is the case for commercial artwork such as this. Please provide a link to the respective sources and copyright policies on the images' pages, or submit them for deletion immediately. -- Sandstein 18:21, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
Why?
[edit]Why do you guys hate me? I write something and 1-2 days later I find out it is deleted. Plus, I receive messages stating that, "You will be banned from editing." It feels like I am in prison. This is my first article, and the pictures+overview/storyline are or already have been deleted. I will try to follow the rules, but tell me before you delete something, so I can do bettter. Thanks.
Mike15 23:49, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
- The reason I left a warning for you was that you were tagging other peoples' user pages with speedy deletion tags. The user pages belong to the respective users, and tagging them with delete is considered vandalism. In addition, you proceeded to add a speedy delete tag to my user page after I warned you — I certainly didn't want my page to be deleted, and if I did, I would just do so myself. In either case, please don't tag user pages (with the exception of yours, which is nonexistant right now), and don't tag valid articles with {{Delete}} either. If you wish for something to be deleted and it doesn't fit under the critiria for speedy deletion, you must take it to WP:AfD. Thank you. Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 23:54, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
- P.S. Removing other peoples' comments is never acceptable, either. Please don't do that.
Noooo!
[edit]Who put that there? How do I get rid of it? Please God someone tell me!
Mike15 13:50, 21 October 2005 (UTC)
Delete Tag
[edit]Please stop gettting rid of the deletion tag. If you have any problems leave me a message.

Now that the game's out...
[edit]I'm in the process of overhauling this article to better reflect the game itself, as early speculation has been proven wrong (i.e., EMP is for good guys.) I'm not done with it, but I needed to take a break to sleep, so in case you were wondering what the heck's going on...there ya go. -- megarockman 10/29/05 2:49 CDT
Actually
[edit]EMP bombs do go to people with very, very high political reputations. (found that out by raising my reputation in the Skirmish screen) If you don't believe me, go to the skirmish screen, and where it says, "Political Reputation" raise it to the highest it will go and you will see a blue lightning circle. That is the Emp bomb. Just letting you know! Mike15 15:08, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
- I knew that already (though I guess the wording of my message wasn't clear). Also, each faction's good/bad powers vary, so a thorough study of its effects is necessary to document them (table would probably be best, with each row being a faction, each column be a reputation rating (-5 to +5), and eack entry be the according power). -- megarockman, October 30th, 2005 - 18:01 CST
Stryker real-world note
[edit]I added this:
- (Special Real-World Note: The Stryker has become the vehicle of choice for the U.S. forces in Iraq for patrol purposes because of it's ability to endure attack after attack of roadside bombs. The U.S. forces have attached extra armor to the Stryker for this enhanced ability and have given the U.S. troops higher morale and higher survival rates.)
I found this info on Fox News and/or CNN. Thought it was a nice bit of trivia. Jtpaladin 00:40, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Copyvio
[edit]The faction descriptions were taken verbatim from the game's official Flash website. I wouldn't be surprised if other bits were copied as well. 91.0.106.8 06:38, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
The Factions
[edit]I am including a list of the factions in the game as well as a bit of their backstory and the general lean of their special abilities.
Overhaul
[edit]Beginning a total overhaul of the article, to try and make it work. I don't know if it'll be COMPLETELY wiki-style, but anything would be better than the current arrangement. I promise not to start listing specific units and their stats. --AK-17 15:42, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Language of the article
[edit]THe language used here sounds like a promotional brouchure. It shouldn't read this way, especially for an encyclopedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by JustinLillich (talk • contribs) 19:53, 26 March 2007 (UTC).
Fair use rationale for Image:Shatteredunion.jpg
[edit]Image:Shatteredunion.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:37, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
qualified as a dystopian
[edit]im adding this in the List of dystopian music, TV programs, and games. The nature and the backstory of the game is highly qualified as a dystopian. --Dark paladin x 17:26, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Plagirism
[edit]Large chunks of this page, if not the entire thing, are word-for-word quotes from the manual - the descriptions of the factions at least. Is it appropriate to wipe that whole section? Donners (talk) 03:22, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
A few minor edits please.
[edit]"...becoming the most unpopular president - and greatest dictator since George W. Bush - in U.S. history."
That phrase right there is not appropriate, because it makes several statements:
1) Dubya completely left his role as elected leader of the free world, rewriting the constitution to allow himself to do as he pleased.
2) That Dubya was more unpopular than other such historically hated presidents such as Lincoln, who was reviled by even his own party.
3) That there have been successive dictators in U.S. history.
Also, the image depicts regions controlled by factions, not the factions themselves.
Finally, I would like to see some mentions to parallels to current events, since this story was written with a basis in possibility, an allegory of sorts.
Jaguitar (talk) 18:35, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
- Now, said most unpopular president is Barrack Obama, according to poll numbers. He was at about 43%, last time I checked. --Gamma287 01:34, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
