Talk:ShadPS4
name of the page
[edit]I accidentally created the page as "ShadPS4" but it should be "shadPS4". Hopefully someone can fix it. J2UDY7r00CRjH (talk) 20:24, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
Notability
[edit]@TheWikiToby Can you expound more on the notability template you added? From that template:
Please help to demonstrate the notability of the topic by citing reliable secondary sources that are independent of the topic and provide significant coverage of it beyond a mere trivial mention
I cited IGN, 80.lv and Wccftech. IGN is obviously a good source. Wccftech is discussed here and there doesn't seem to be a consensus on if it can be used. 80.lv has never been discussed, which I find strange as it is a very in depth source for the gaming industry compared to most video game outlets. I also just added TheGamer which according to VGRS, "News posts and original content after August 2020 are considered generally reliable. Several editorial staff have bylines highlighting their experience working with other reputable video game media outlets such as VG247." Does adding that source solve the issue of notability?
Also about the categorization of this emulator as a product/service - is that meant to be a more broad category? Because this emulator is open source under GPLv2, it's not really a product in my opinion (for example, it is not "marketed or sold as a commodity"[1]). Also to be clear I have zero affiliation with the emulator. J2UDY7r00CRjH (talk) 23:02, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- @J2UDY7r00CRjH I went through multiple pages of Google to not find anything about shad except for the stuff you already found. Since the tag is based on opinion, I added it saying that it's possible the subject might not be notable, but that it's also likely I may have missed something. Now that you've added TheGamer though, I'm okay with removing the tag as you have IGN too (as well as those other two sources which I will assume good faith on your judgement of). Number of playable games
[edit]@7footrats I agree that the source for the games listed in the xda article is ultimately the shadPS4 github page as you noted in this edit which you later reverted. It isn't clear to me if it's better on Wikipedia to cite an outdated but reliable secondary news source or a primary source that the secondary source was using. See WP:PSTS for some more info on what kinds of sources are best used on Wikipieda. For now the difference isn't that large so I'd suggest just keeping it at the current number. If it gets past 1-200 games without any source giving an updated number we can can reconsider whether to use the shadps4 github page number. I suspect, however, given how much attention shadPS4 is getting that if a lot more games start being playable that sources would note that. That said, the main reason shadPS4 is notable in the wider audience outside of people interested in graphics/emulation is probably Bloodborne, and the playability of other games is not really an important factor for a lot of the outlets covering shadPS4, so there is a chance that the new number won't be given for a while.
