Game type

[edit]

When I wrote the original article I intentionally described it as "gene straddling". The reason for this is that though the most prominent aspect of the game is its drum rhythms, it is much more than just that. When the article text was streamlines the editor removed that expression, and I reinserted it, as I think this is very central to what is particular about the game. It was removed again with this justification: "'genre-straddling' is kind of a peacocking description of this game. In essense it's just a rhythm game with some customizable elements like adding/removing weapons/patapons.)" This is simply not true. In ordinary rhythm games you're bound to the rhythm or instructions given to you. Patapon, however, is an action strategy game where direct controls have been replaces by rhythm proxies. In fact, contrary to the edit justification, Patapon is essentially a strategy game (of the RTT and God game types) with a rhythm game flavour, but at the same time, quite different from the recognised vanilla rhythm game template. For the reasons given I've restored the expression. Miqademus (talk) 22:24, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While your arguments for why its more than a rhythm game are fine. Why do the words "genre-straddling" have to be in the sentence instead of just saying it combines elements from rhythm games and many RPG/strategy games? Should Puzzle Quest be a "genre-straddling" game for combining a puzzle game with RPG elements? It just seems very subjective.
I think it's necessary that people can get a general idea of the game from the initial description. We're trying to give users who have never heard about this game a description of what it is. "X is a genre-straddling game" does not help describe it for them in any better than "X combines elements Y and Z" could.
I'm not going to bother getting into some edit war over whether the word should be included so I'm going to leave it but its a non-descriptive word left there just so it could be used in a sentence. Strongsauce (talk) 23:08, 24 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Your point is well taken. I am not attached to that particular expression per se, and I agree that it perhaps has somewhat promotional ring to it. However, since I find the, well, genre-straddlingness of the game its most noteworthy feature, I do think that it should be explicated as such rather than 'merely' implied. If you have a better expression or phrasing, then by all means, but please do emphasise the concept I'm talking about. Miqademus (talk) 00:45, 25 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's no other link, other than IGN, that states that Interlink created PaRappa_the_Rapper, in the PaRappa_the_Rapper article the developer is NanaOn-Sha and in its official website doesn't reference Patapon anywhere, noting that its an active website, the information must be validated with another website because IGN may be wrong too... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kacex (talkcontribs) 03:39, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay after doing a little Google searching I found these links [1], [2], [3] and on the official PaRappa page at the bottom [4] that mention Interlink. Now digging around it seems like Interlink is associated with Rodney Greenblat, who is credit with the visuals for PaRappa the Rapper. Looking around even further I have found an all flash japanese only website at http://www.interlink-planning.com/. If you click on projects at the top, then click the fourth item, then the 3rd item (item above BPM) you will find artwork for PaRappa the Rapper 2. Looking around further if you look at this Playstation Asia Patapon Page it says Interlink/Rolito. So essentially Interlink is some kind of artist representative company and not the "game design" but "visual design" creditors (perhaps there is something stipulated in the designers contract that says they must also credit Interlink if they found them the job)? Great research, thanks :) Kacex (talk) 00:26, 29 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Music credits

[edit]

After digging around, I found an interview with the director, Hiroyuki Kotani: http://psp.gamezone.com/news/01_11_08_08_51AM.htm

Kemmei Adachi did the music for this game, I'd put it in, but currently there is no appropriate section. The interview only says "KEMMEI", I assume the interviewer thought it was a band or company, although immediately after that part the director clearly says "he". But, the director also said that he and Kemmei Did LocoRoco (game with similar creators) together, see that games wiki and note that it credits "Kemmei Adachi". Also, since the game is musically based, someone may want to quote the director saying, "Patapon would not exist if it wasn’t for him." To do all of this there may need to be a credits section on the Patapon page. Note, there is no wiki page for Kemmei Adachi, I may do that eventually, and link it with LocoRoco and Patapon, etc. Nnnudibranch 23:24, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Huge spoiler

[edit]

A spoiler warning for the "story" part is very necessary! You 've spoiled the ending for me! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.210.142.136 (talk) 18:03, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:SPOILER. Wikipedia does not avoid spoilers or use spoiler warnings. If you don't want it spoiled for you, you really shouldn't read encyclopaedia articles about it.Mr T (Based) (talk) 18:09, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am planning on reviewing this article for GA Status, over the next couple of days. Thank you for nominating the article for GA status. I hope I will learn some new information, and that my feedback is helpful.

If nominators or editors could refrain from updating the particular section that I am updating until it is complete, I would appreciate it to remove a edit conflict. Please address concerns in the section that has been completed above (If I've raised concerns up to references, feel free to comment on things like the lede.)

I generally provide an overview of things I read through the article on a first glance. Then do a thorough sweep of the article after the feedback is addressed. After this, I will present the pass/failure. I may use strikethrough tags when concerns are met. Even if something is obvious why my concern is met, please leave a message as courtesy.

Best of luck! you can also use the {{done}} tag to state when something is addressed. Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs)

Please let me know after the review is done, if you were happy with the review! Obviously this is regarding the article's quality, however, I want to be happy and civil to all, so let me know if I have done a good job, regardless of the article's outcome.

Immediate Failures

[edit]
  • It is a long way from meeting any one of the six good article criteria -
  • It contains copyright infringements -
  • It has, or needs, cleanup banners that are unquestionably still valid. These include{{cleanup}}, {{POV}}, {{unreferenced}} or large numbers of {{citation needed}}, {{clarify}}, or similar tags. (See also {{QF-tags}}). -
  • It is not stable due to edit warring on the page. -

No issue, I'll assume you'll put something there in a bit, I'm happy to pass for now. Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 14:43, 18 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
