Newcastle United F.C. → Newcastle United FC – Per MOS:ACRO: "Wikipedia generally avoids using full stops in upper-case acronyms." Is there any reason for this to be treated differently? —sroc 💬 03:53, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose For consistency with all other British clubs. See Category:Football clubs in England. The only exceptions are clubs where the letters do not stand for anything. Any discussion on this issue should be a central RfC, not a discussion on one of hundreds (if not thousands) of articles using this naming convention, which was agreed many years ago (which is why all the articles use dots). - Thank you. Enlightening. Withdrawn. —sroc 💬 09:26, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

I'm still curious why there is so much variation, e.g.:
- Category:Soccer clubs in Australia—all without full stops
- Category:Football clubs in Germany—all without full stops
- Category:Football clubs in Spain—all without full stops (except Real Madrid F.C.)
- Category:Football clubs in France—mostly without full stops, a few with full stops
- Category:Soccer clubs in the United States—some with, some without
- Category:Football clubs in Greece—all with full stops (except OFI Crete)
- Category:Football clubs in Wales—all with full stops
- Category:Football clubs in Italy—all with full stops
Why is this not consistent? —sroc 💬 09:26, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
- I've continued this conversation at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Abbreviations#"FC" or "F.C." for football clubs. —sroc 💬 09:40, 23 July 2013 (UTC)
History of Newcastle United Page
There is a seperate wikipedia page called 'History of Newcastle United F.C." in which further detail can be added. The promotion from the championship section is becoming excessively detailed. May we consider moving this detail to there and abbreviating long paragraphs as have been done in previous sections?
ToonIsALoon (talk) 14:00, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
- That section is not just re the Championship-winning season. But, yes, it probably falls foul of WP:RECENT, so I'll support moving that to the history page and replacing it with a summarised version. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 14:56, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Height data
Thirty-one of the Newcastle United player profiles are metric first and 4 are imperial first. I think it would be better if they were consistent. After all,
- Newcastle United profiles are metric first. See [1]
- Premier League player profiles are metric only.
- Most (31/35) player profiles are metric first now.
- It only needs four edits for me to make them all consistent.
Please let me know if you approve or diaapprove of this change. Michael Glass (talk) 09:08, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- Personally, I'd say go for it (as per WP:BRD). This sounds like something that can be discussed ad nauseum without any proper consensus ever being reached though. According to WP:UNIT, "In non-scientific articles relating to the United Kingdom, the primary units for most quantities are metric [...] except that: [...] the primary units for personal height and weight are feet/inches and stones/pounds," so for a U.K. player based at a U.K. team, there probably won't be a proper justification for changing it to metric. But try your luck anyway – if you use a template to display both metric and imperial, i.e. {{convert|x.xx|m|ftin|abbr=on}}, then hopefully there won't be too many dissenting voices. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 10:07, 12 January 2015 (UTC)
- Please leave it as per MOS:UNITS with heights in feet and inches first for UK related articles. Any change should first be agreed at MOS:UNITS in my opinion. It's not as if the unit order affects any football-related content. In fact, I would go so far as to say that all other team members should be changed to comply with the feet/inches first clause in MOS:UNITS as there is no football related reason for the non-compliance. Baaarny (talk) 07:20, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
- Then that begs the question – is the article of a foreign player playing in for a U.K. team deemed a U.K. article or a non-U.K. article? I'd say a non-U.K. article, it would just be ridiculous to change the sequence every time a player move to a different country. So, players from the U.K. should probably be changed to have imperial first; players from other countries should have metric first. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 09:55, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Semi-protected edit request: Shearer appointment date wrong
The article implies that Alan Shearer took over from Joe Kinnear in February 2009:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newcastle_United_F.C.#Decline_and_relegation
"Former Wimbledon manager Joe Kinnear was appointed as his replacement,[29] but in February 2009, due to his heart surgery, Alan Shearer was appointed interim manager in his absence"
In fact, Shearer wasn't appointed until April 2009 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/7975700.stm)
Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood took charge between Kinnear and Hughton (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/7876467.stm)
Please can someone with permission correct this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.234.251.71 (talk) 13:02, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

Newcastle United's manager Rafael Benitez's win percentage (under 'Notable Managers') is listed as 22.22%. This is incorrect as he has won 3 games in 10, and the percentage should be 30%.

Joe Joyce nationality
The page lists Joe Joyce with a Scotland flag next to him but the page for him states he was born in England and notes him as an "English footballer".
There's no reference of him having represented Scotland through ancestry so it seems this page is the one that's wrong?

- Hi there, thanks for pointing that out. I agree with you, I can't see any reason why his nationality is Scottish; now updated. Thanks, TheMightyPeanut (talk) 21:01, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

No mention of Mike Ashley's deep unpopularity, protests, related incidents etc.
Why is there no mention of Mike Ashley's unpopularity with fans, the various incidents over the past decade or more that have led to this state of affairs, and the protests against his ownership that have occurred? This has not been a minor issue, or restricted to an inconsiderable proportion of the fan base; it has been highly visible and often-discussed. A whole section could be written about the issue. All of this could easily be reliably sourced from more than a decade's worth of newspaper articles and the like. 82.20.19.122 (talk) 15:17, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

Addition of 'The Toon' to nicknames as opposed to just the magpie's. It's a rather affectionate name we use for the team up in the north east where next to nobody calls them 'The Magpies'. - @IVORK: Sorry, but that was a pretty lame generic answer, have you not read the article and seen the references too Toon Army? Govvy (talk) 10:14, 28 November 2019 (UTC)

The article mentions that the stadium changed at the start of the 19th Century, it should say 20th century. 86.0.54.230 (talk) 21:55, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
Lead should cover the ownership of the club
I fail to understand this edit which removed all text about the ownership of the club.[2] While the content can be trimmed, it's clearly highly notable that the club is now owned by the Saudi government's sovereign wealth fund. Leads in comparable articles don't hesitate to highlight the ownership, in particular when the ownership is controversial or outside the norm. Snooganssnoogans (talk) 19:27, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

The Swedish-captioned picture
The Swedish photograph of the 1960 Newcastle United team hasn't got all the names right and describes people as crouching -- from this, I wonder whether someone has added the caption from another photograph. Clearly, none of them are crouching, and clearly, it is not George Eastham standing on the right.
(I saw him play for Arsenal many times, and even played with him once; he came to coach the Keele university players when he was playing in Stoke City reserves, and I was in and out of the Keele university reserves team, in 1968. Quite uncalled for in this context, but who else am I ever going to tell that story to, 50+ years later?)
Another picture from the same session is here: beyondthelastman.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/newcastle-utd-1960.jpg. The player named as George Eastham in the Swedish caption is named as Bell there. Is there a Newcastle fan aged in their late 70s, or preferably in their 80s, who can be asked?
The trouble is that the photo and its caption appear in the wikipedia pages for other players, including George Eastham's, but I'm not expert enough to know how to write this sort of thing for a picture. Nick Barnett (talk) 00:56, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
Addition of 'Wor Flags' into the article
Hello all,
As Wor Flags we're working on a campaign to increase our media presence with the view to becoming a registered organisation. As part of the process we're reviewing the data currently in circulation about us.
One of the steps we're looking at is Wikipedia presence (you'll have to excuse me as I'm new to this)
Could this be something that can be achieved reasonably?
I can have the text and references drafted up and submitted. Mdmc16 (talk) 08:52, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

The player identified in the 1960 team photo is not George Eastham, who had by then left to join Arsenal, but Jackie Bell. You can verify this by ref to the two histories of NUFC by club official historian Paul Joannou. 146.198.87.167 (talk) 20:25, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
