Discontinued

[edit]

It would appear that Nintendo has quietly discontinued the New 2DS XL system. When going to Nintendo's official site for the New 2DS XL here ( https://www.nintendo.com/3ds/buynow/#section-new-nintendo-2ds-xl ), it lists only one retailer (Walmart) for purchase. However, upon clicking on that link, the only versions available are all from 3rd party private sellers, as seen here ( https://www.walmart.com/ip/New-Nintendo-2DS-XL-System-w-Mario-Kart-7-Pre-installed-Black-Turquoise/652383534 ). If it had a "sold out" or the same MSRP that Nintendo lists ($99.99), it would indicate it's still being sold at retail. Since it appears to have no retail listing, it looks like it has been quietly discontinued. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.253.50.238 (talk) 19:56, 9 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

[edit]

@Cukie Gherkin, Ferret, and ValenciaThunderbolt: Should this article be merged with the Nintendo 2DS article? At the moment, the two articles are merged, but clearly there has been discussion about this within the article's edit history. Tonyzamboney (talk) 19:38, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

For reference, here are the ways in which the New Nintendo 2DS XL is similar to the other "New" systems but not the Nintendo 2DS:
  • Support for software that is exclusive to New Nintendo 3DS systems;
  • Upgraded control scheme (C-stick and additional shoulder buttons);
  • Out-of-the-box NFC support;
  • Expandable storage via microSD card (as opposed to an SD card);
  • Clamshell design;
  • "New" branding
And here are the ways in which the New Nintendo 2DS XL is similar to the Nintendo 2DS but not the "New" systems:
  • Lack of autostereoscopic 3D;
  • Lower price point;
  • "2DS" branding
If there is enough overlap with the Nintendo 2DS to justify a merge, then there is also enough overlap with the New Nintendo 3DS to justify a merge with that as well, considering that the New Nintendo 2DS XL shares more similarities with the New Nintendo 3DS than it does with the Nintendo 2DS. Therefore a merge with Nintendo 2DS does not seem to be justified. The two articles do share some similarities with each other, but shared content is not enough to justify a merge. That, combined with the significant differences between the two systems, demonstrates that their articles should not be merged. Tonyzamboney (talk) 19:38, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is inappropriately started, as the discussion is unlikely to garner any views besides those immediately pinged. I recommend you list it at WT:VG. I have no strong view other than that this merge was done along with the Nintendo Switch Lite merger, which had a strong consensus. -- ferret (talk) 20:21, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
