Game Engine

[edit]

Does anyone know the name of the game engine (i.e., middleware) used in the development of NFS: ProStreet? Is it third-party or in-house? Aeonassoc 14:44, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Need For Speed: All Star?

[edit]

Has this title been confirmed? I have reverted the page redirects to "Need For Speed: All Star" as they went wrong (although I'm sure the editor who moved the page had the best intentions) and because I wasn't sure whether this title had been confirmed yet.

Seraphim Whipp 00:55, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In any case, cut-and-paste was not the correct way, and it was proper to revert the move. If it is confirmed, we can use the move tab. hbdragon88 01:01, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have never heard of that title before, and have not seen it anywhere else. As far as I'm concerned, all edits done to promote this title as a fact, without proper references, should be considered as vandalism and be reverted. --MrStalker 16:57, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have not heard of that title before, either. But I would think that the editor of that might have had good intentions and may not be a vandalist. --Ceddy063 00:05, 25 May 2007 (UTC) —The preceding comment was added by 71.137.0.101 (talk)[reply]

You're kidding, right? Vandalism is constantly made on many articles. Saying "Please" and blocking an IP won't stop them. In fact, it will attract them to the challenge and pleasure of knowing they're annoying you. -- Lyverbe 19:50, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yo, I am that one guy who you guys are calling a vandal. My homes, i am new to Wikipedia and was not yet familiar with the lingo and tricks of the trade. About Rating(s)

[edit]

Hmm, you can see in this page http://www.ea.com/nfs/carbon/ Pegi rating 12+ and esrb rating Everyone (10+). Or is that for Carbon? Yoosq 15:10, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That is right, those ratings are for Carbon. As you can see in the trailer, the rating for North America is currently Rating Pending and for Europe 3+. --MrStalker talk 17:17, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just curious, why is it taking ESRB much longer to rate this game than PEGI? And does anyone know what the rating will probably be? Denver nuggets25 23:08, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's Pro Street, not ProStreet

[edit]

Why is everyone write ProStreet although in the official Pro Street page shows Need For Speed: Pro Street Yoosq 03:18, 1 June 2007

Read the announcement, it's ProStreet.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - May 31, 2007 - Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS) announced today that the blockbuster Need for Speed™ franchise is introducing a new version that drives the series in a new direction. Need for Speed™ ProStreet is a ground-breaking Need for Speed experience where you're thrust to compete head to head against the best street racers in a multitude of racing showdowns. The game is being developed by EA Black Box in Vancouver, B.C., and is slated to ship this fall.

That is right. It is called has Need for Speed: ProStreet --SkyWalker 09:17, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

ProStreet is the title if you need any more convincing than the official logo. One other thing; the new trailer (official) ends with COMING 10-31-07 so there is an official release date which I have posted. Take it down if you don't like it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 124.190.210.169 (talkcontribs) 07:50, 4 June 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Eh, no it dosen't, it ends with "COMING NOVEMBER 07". If you have found another official trailer, link please. Otherwise, deliberately re-adding false information will be considered vandalism. --MrStalker talk 13:28, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So any confirmations about 31.10.2007? If no, it going to be removed. Elk Salmon 22:14, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh well, as it turns out the official release date actually is 31 October, for the american market. Europe is still November 07. The American trailer and website have been changed since launch, but the European (UK) hasn't. This should have been mentioned and discussed on this talk page before reverting, which this user failed to do. History of Title

[edit]

What's the point of this section? It talks about magazines that have mentionned the name "ProStreet" which is not at all relevant to the game itself. I removed the whole section yesterday and somebody wrote it back. Am I the only one who thinks it doesn't belong in the article? -- Lyverbe 16:44, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's a story on how the title has been brought to user's attention. It's a history of game development. It's relevant for the article. Elk Salmon 18:59, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite

[edit]

I have removed some outdated info from the article, and replaced it with info based on the official announcement. I also made some other smaller adjustments. Please comment and/or improve. --MrStalker talk 16:48, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

When will the official announcement for the name be released from EA? Does anyone have a date of when any info and/or the carlist will be released? Tentrtnrbrtn063 01:04, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Huh? The game and its name has already been announced, but no specific date of further information. --MrStalker talk 13:34, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Official cover?

[edit]

Take a look on EA Singapore's website for NFS:PS: here. It seems to me that there is an official cover art available, so I uploaded it and included it in the article. Source provided by NFSPC.tw (here). --MrStalker talk 23:29, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Russian distributor

[edit]

Who the game's distributor is in Russia is totally irrelevant to the article. This is english wikipedia, therefor we must stick with international standards. We simply cannot add information about the distributor in each country to all articles. Thus, the info is removed from the article. --MrStalker talk 21:49, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, we do it for every game. That is why the option distributor is made for. And because it's an encyclopedia, not a guidebook for English speaking people. Elk Salmon 23:44, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, we don't. The option distributor is made for use in articles about a game where the distributor and the publisher isn't the same. In this case Electronic Arts both publish and distribute the game. Since Russia is a little special market, basically all games that are being sold there goes through a different distributor. The question is: Is there information about the Russian distributor in other video game articles? No, there isn't. Hence, it's irrelevant to the article and the vast majority of readers. --MrStalker talk 09:15, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hasn't this information been present in the article for months? What reasons are there for removing it now? 0_o
Seraphim Whipp 08:25, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Because it has become irrelevant. --MrStalker talk 09:15, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How could the list of official developers, publishers, distributors, designers etc could be irrelevant? It's indeed relevant. Elk Salmon 12:42, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They aren't, it's the Russian distributor that's irrelevant. Who's the Russian distributor is very irrelevant to everybody except Russians. There is a place for such information: Russian wikipedia. --MrStalker talk 14:08, 10 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Since there is no answer I'll remove the info for now. --MrStalker talk 18:31, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The answer was given before your post. Wikipedia is not a guidebook, but an encyclopedia. International distributors, publishers, developers, release dates etc is an important relevant data. Not all people that want to know them have a knowledges in all languages. Also to note - en.wiki is an international. Majority of non english speakers use it, because of lack of data in local wikies. Elk Salmon 07:47, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. International distributors, publishers, developers, release dates etc are important relevant data. National/local ones, such as Soft Club, aren't. --MrStalker talk 14:47, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fansites

[edit]

Since several NFS fansites offer a lot of things not covered here (latest news for example), why shouldn't they be listed under external links? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.77.6.1 (talkcontribs) 16:57, 12 June 2007

Because it's not allowed under WP:LINKS. --MrStalker talk 18:30, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Where exactly did you read that? - WP:LINKS - What should be linked Sites that contain neutral and accurate material that cannot be integrated into the Wikipedia article due to copyright issues, amount of detail (such as professional athlete statistics, movie or television credits, interview transcripts, or online textbooks) or other reasons.

ProStreet?

[edit]

Does anyone at EA actually know what Pro Street means in the context of street racing? From what I've seen so far, none of the in-game cars are Pro Street cars. Pro Street is defined as a street-legal version of a Pro Mod drag car.. ie RWD, narrowed rear axle to accomodate huge rear-wheel tubs (I mean huge- Mickey Thompson 33x21 in. tyres), large V8 etc, often running 8 sec and under quarter-mile times. It'd be interesting to see if the Camaro etc in the game are actually true Pro Street cars; I'd be pleasantly surprised if they were.--Truetillbrew 21:20, 5 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Read the header: "This is the talk page for discussing improvements to the Need for Speed: ProStreet article. This is not a forum for general discussion about the article's subject." --MrStalker talk 07:50, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fully aware what the header says, but the above post was made here specifically to avoid adding such comment to the main article. The product title is a very important part of the product, and may possibly be construed as misleading. I may add any instance of further discussion in this context to the main article if required, but would rather it remained here.--Truetillbrew 14:20, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nobody here knows what somebody at EA does or does not know. You will have to ask them the get an answer on that. If I would guess, I'd say the title ProStreet refers to Professional Street-racing, and has nothing whatsoever to do with Pro Mod cars. --MrStalker talk 14:30, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Pro Street is a style of street racing car- that's my point. This is a street racing game of the same name. Hence the not-unreasonable question.--Truetillbrew 15:41, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps, but most people don't even know what a Pro Mod/Pro Street car is. But this has nothing to to with the article itself. If one wants to know what cars there will be in the game one just got to take a look at the included carlist, it speaks it's clear language and there is no confusion. Regarding the use of a title that conflicts with a car type, you'll have to take it with EA representatives in the official forums. --MrStalker talk 18:49, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DirectX

[edit]

Do we know what version of directx it uses yet Link287 05:39, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Read the header: "This is the talk page for discussing improvements to the Need for Speed: ProStreet article. This is not a forum for general discussion about the article's subject." --MrStalker talk 07:50, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I know but i think if released the requirements of the game are important information in the article.Link287 23:24, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If they'd had, I would have added it. So the answer is no. --MrStalker talk 07:05, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
of course PC requirements are important , but we still don't have official ones
"Pro Street - Unofficial System Requirements -- [...]DirectX: Version 9.0c[...]" from NFSGarage -> http://nfsaddons.com/nfshs/news/244/
I think its quite simple : how many PC's have DirectX 9 and how many have DirectX 10 or other. DirectX 10 only if its included in the DVD (I hope you don't start asking if it will be on a DVD or CD , its DVD obviously) --rapzeh —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rapzeh (talkcontribs) 20:46, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

- DirectX 10 is compatiable with Windows Vista only, and it's unlikely even EA would limit themselves like that. Since Carbon uses DirectX 9.0c, chances are ProStreet does too. Evils Dark (talk) 00:03, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No cops?

[edit]

In the article it says that there will be no cops in the game, is this confirmed? And if so, is there a source to this? Also, in the article it says "Unlike its predecessors, all racing in ProStreet will take place on closed tracks" but every NFS game outside of the last three only took place on closed tracks. GSG Flash 14:27, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes it is. Check out GameSpot's interview for the latest update. link. Closed tracks means dedicated race tracks, none of the previous Need for Speed games has taken taken place on anything as such, except perhaps URL-races in Underground 2. --MrStalker talk 11:14, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
actualy nfs1 se had two closed race tracks and highstakes had alot of closed tracks also if you haven't played the whole series you can't talk about the whole seris it has changed alot form beginning to now. Chardrc 15:51, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The keyword is all. It has not been done before in this manner. --MrStalker talk 21:04, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(rapzeh- still don't know how to sign :((
so... NO cops , we are 100% sure !
the tracks will be dedicated (legal closed tracks , no traffic or public roads)
but theres no red or yellow flag , so you can crash into others without any penalties and try to win by any means
"Unlike its predecessors, all racing in ProStreet will take place on closed tracks" -> closed tracks ≠ public roads without free roam —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rapzeh (talkcontribs) 20:23, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Maybe someone should add picture or video links to each of the cars on the list, as conformation...?

Just a suggestion... 99.244.87.52 02:00, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

That won't be necessary since it's an official list direct from EA. --MrStalker talk 11:18, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Veyron?

[edit]

On this article, it states that the Bugatti Veyron will be part of pro street's vehicle lineup. Unfortunately, I do no see this on the official site for pro street. :-| —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.148.11.149 (talkcontribs) 17:23, 20 July 2007 (UTC).[reply]

That's why it has been reverted. --MrStalker talk 09:10, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Realism

[edit]

On the article page it says "ProStreet will focus much more on realism and move closer to racing simulation". I think this is not quite in line with what the producer of the game said recently: ""We're definitely not looking to make a simulation", source here. What do you think? Timppis 10:08, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Closer to, not in to. --MrStalker talk 00:53, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So, what's the official verdict? I have not found any evidence suggesting that a car list is strictly forbidden (I was not able to find anything with that link, MrStalker), and I think it would add to the quality of the page if it were included. I just bought the game, and if anyone doesn't mind, I'd be interested in just making the list myself. Loonybin0, Never underestimate a man in a straight-jacket 16:04, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Release date

[edit]

Why was european release date removed (November 2 link)? Kaurikk 14:56, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because that's not a reliable source. There has been no official european release date announced yet. --MrStalker talk 15:04, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Although that all places that are selling it (Gameplay, Amazon etc) have the same date marked as release date (pretty sure this date is given by EA to sellers)? By the way, Amazon releases it in US earlier than it is written here. Kaurikk 15:20, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What you're saying is just speculation. See Wikipedia:Verifiability. --MrStalker talk 12:21, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The new release date is not confirmed. In ProStreet homepage, the 14'th november date is for Europe, not for Worldwide or USA. Yoosq 16:00, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The new release date on the official website for US/Canada says November 14. Other terrirories are unknown for sure, amazon suggest November 23 for Europe. --MrStalker talk 17:58, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Views / Camera

[edit]

in the past NFS the camera or the views were about 5 , whit no cockpit view
in NFS:PS the views will be basically the same , except for the hood view (it will be slightly to the left rather than central)
AND (not verified)
a kind of 360° view around the car , as in GTA: San Andreas. I only saw this in a vid on gametrailers (E3 2007 Developer Walkthrough , at 1:48) http://www.gametrailers.com/player/21919.html .
I haven't tried the demo yet , does anyone know if there's gonna be this kind of view ?

Damage System

[edit]

The new ProStreet will also feature an advanced damage system, which will directly impact on your car's performance, unlike previous Need for Speed titles. This is especially significant in the Speed racing mode, as you can easily "total" your car.

There actually was a Damage system very like this in Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed (Porsche 2000 in Europe) -Chugger1992 19:44, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't quite as advanced as what they make ProStreet's out to be, though. In Porsche Unleashed I could have hit a truck and flipped down the street and still kept driving. --TopGear 21:05, 5 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is there gonna be free roam in this, it would be a real shame if there wasnt —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.183.121.212 (talk) 07:34, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No. --MrStalker talk 09:23, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A better answer to this would be "This is not a forum". Answering these questions encourages them to keep doing it. -- Lyverbe 12:05, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Or maybe not be a stuck up and answer a patheticly easy question so they stop whinin' about it. --MrStalker talk 14:38, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Online

[edit]

The site says that the online part of the won't be for the playstation 2. This is true, but its also not going to be there for the Wii either. I request that we change that so people don't get to happy about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tlev (talkcontribs) 17:15, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Done. You know, it's allowed to make such changes yourself. --MrStalker talk 14:41, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

price

[edit]

does anybody know why the price of the game is so cheap? its 30 bucks here in canada brand new for ps2 its less for ps3 too i think does anybody know why? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.225.247.46 (talk) 03:27, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I bought it for 40€ in Italy --rapzeh (talk) 19:44, 3 February 2008 (UTC)rapzeh[reply]

Fictional Locales

[edit]

I did a search for the Autobahnring on at least 3 sites/ search engines and turned up no info on a real locale, I looked at maps of the Tokyo Dockyards on a few sites and found nothing matching the ingame track. T18 23:02, 2 December 2007 (UTC)T18 Dec 2 07[reply]
-the tracks are not copies of real existing tracks , but are made to look as if real and as if you were racing in that part of the world. So the names are just generic , except for some tracks maybe... --rapzeh (talk) 19:48, 3 February 2008 (UTC)rapzeh[reply]

First with no cops

[edit]

[...] all racing in ProStreet takes place on closed tracks, thus making it the first game in the series not animating illegal racing behaviour, as a result there aren't any police in the game.

This is just wrong, there were NFS games before ProStreet without any police in them - Porsche Unleashed for example. Stealthbg (talk) 05:19, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There were Police in Porsches Unleashed just not in the race mode

Porsche Unleashed factory driver mode included "delivery" events, that included traffic and cops, but the cops could only interfere with a players car, not stop or ticket the car. Jeffareid (talk) 14:08, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There were no cops in undergroud 2 59.154.24.147 (talk) 07:40, 26 January 2008 (UTC) 208.188.233.2 (talk) 16:24, 10 December 2007 (UTC)T18 December 2007[reply]

It doesn't say it's the first game without cops, so wtf are you whining about? --MrStalker (talk) 10:57, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

yes , but the racing in underground 1&2 weren't legit , its just that (magically) there were no cops--rapzeh (talk) 19:51, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The non-pursuit modes of the older games didn't involve cops. Rather than fret over which games did and didn't have illegal racing, why not just state that ProStreet is about legal racing, unlike it's immediate predecessors? Jeffareid (talk) 14:08, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

PC version and PS2 version

[edit]

i think there is some difference between the game on different platforms. coz ppl said there would b a wind tunnle, but i cant seem 2 find it on PS2, also i cant seem 2 find the Lexus IS350 or something... the damage on PS2 also seem 2 b less detailed then the PC version; all u get is scratches, even if ur car is totaled it looks only scratched. if there is some difference can someone plz write about it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.89.215.248 (talk) 23:28, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Booster Pack with Hex-Edit Cars

[edit]

EA's releasing a Booster Pack with all the 16 cars that were previously only attainable through hex-editing.

So I changed the page to fit the news. 69.244.136.156 (talk) 21:01, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe the Booster pack should have its own section on the pageT18 (talk) 23:09, 19 December 2007 (UTC)T18[reply]

The booster pack is a result of the developer having to meet the November deadline. So it's basically updating the game from version 0.9 (pre-release) to 1.0. --MrStalker talk 09:59, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Diffrence in version

[edit]

There is a diffrence in the wii version and xbox or whatever version this information came from

Grip Class races take 8 racers and divide them into two even groups. The racers are placed into the groups based on their vehicles performance potential. Group A starts about 10 seconds ahead of group B, both groups race on the same course but are only competing against the 3 drivers in their group.
In the wii version there are no groups. The race starts at the same time for all 8 cars. No matter what your proformance you alwasy start in last, making it very difficult if you start with a fast excellerating car because all the other cars tend to bunch up untill the first turn.

Now i know my word isn't a reliable source, but i own the wii version so i know for a fact that this is true 68.172.82.0 (talk) 02:02, 7 September 2008 (UTC) LightGiver 68.172.82.0 (talk) 02:02, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Models controversy

[edit]

The car featured in that ad was a Ferrari, a car not featured or licensed for use with ProStreet. Some claim (probably jokingly) that the only reason the ad was pulled because of the Ferrari. Jeffareid (talk) 14:00, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Platform

[edit]

Why is "Microsoft Windows" listed as a Platform? Microsoft Windows is an Operating System not a Platform! The Platform should be PC. Silberwoelfin 14:55, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nah, it should be Windows - you can have a PC with Linux or OS X, they can't play ProStreet. Thanks! Fin© 16:48, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pro Street Romania

[edit]

I was wondering, was this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpxZOdE_-ck a viral advert for the game? It seems very likely that it was, but I can't find any confirmation. The address given at the end is down now. Any thoughts? Caspar esq. (talk) 13:10, 16 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Plot section

[edit]

I'm pretty sure the way the plot section is described is completly wrong. I don't know where whoever wrote the section got the idea that Ryan and you (the player) are different people. I think it is pretty clear the game is refering to you (the player) when the announcer says Ryan. 59.167.212.224 (talk) 09:39, 22 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
