The film was DreamWorks' first adaptation of a video game, Touchstone/Disney only distributed it
[edit]The film was the first movie from DreamWorks Pictures (DreamWorks II Holding or more commonly know as DW II Distribution)to be based off a video game, Whom they got the rights from EA. And Touchstone/Disney only distributed he film. Which means that Touchstone was not involved in production. They just only released the film in theaters via Walt Disney Studios. So i removed the sentence "The film was the first Touchstone/Disney film to be based on an adaptation of the Need for Speed series" and replaced it with "The film was the first DreamWorks film to be based on an adaptation of the Need for Speed series". Because DreamWorks owns the rights to this film. and Touchstone/Disney only distributed it. Because the new DreamWorks studio (DreamWorks II Holding) does'nt have a distribution division anymore. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 160.7.248.147 (talk) 23:11, 8 July 2014 (UTC)
Distributor
[edit]The lead says Touchstone Pictures and the indicia credits at the official site http://www.theneedforspeedmovie.com/ say Touchstone Pictures. Why do we say Walt Disney Pictures in the infobox? I know that's the parent company, but do we says News Corp. for 20th Century Fox releases or Sony for Columbia Pictures releases? --Tenebrae (talk) 21:56, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
- OK, here are the official credits: "DreamWorks Pictures and Reliance Entertainment present an Electronic Arts / Bandito Brothers production". Touchstone is not a production studio here -- it's the distributor. --Tenebrae (talk) 22:18, 4 March 2014 (UTC)
Popular reception?
[edit]Despite the critical thrashing, Need for Speed seems to be very popular with the public compared to other video game movies. It has a 7.2 on IMDb, the highest for any major-studio video game movie (runners-up are at 6.x); probably because of the old-fashioned car chase scenes. The Metacritic user score is also highish (not to be trusted, though, since there are only 200 or so reviews). Shouldn't this popularity be mentioned in the article?Serpinium (talk) 18:20, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
- @Serpinium: Unfortunately, we avoid online user ratings because they are subject to vote stacking and demographic skew. Articles are better off using box office performance data as well as CinemaScore polling (the latter which shows the film got a "B+" grade from audiences). - @Erik: Yeah, I kind of figured that would be the case... I'm having a hard time finding CinemaScore ratings, unfortunately, so it looks like we're at a loss for verifiable sources on this. It doesn't matter anyway; 7.2/B+ or not, this film won't go down in history for its quality. The upcoming crop of video game movies will crush any notability it ever had. --Serpinium (talk) 20:29, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
- I meant finding scores for comparison's sake: I couldn't easily find CS scores for other game adaptations, and so could not compare the reception to that of prior films. Thanks for helping though. --Serpinium (talk) 18:08, 24 June 2014 (UTC)
change
[edit]Plot originally stated that the "bad guys" in the trucks were trying to "kill" Marshall. That has been changed to trying to "stop" Marshall. There is a point during the chase where the driver says to the shooter; "Just aim at the tires, don't kill them". FYI - theWOLFchild 05:28, 18 July 2014 (UTC)
