- Eiji Aonuma: "Going on an adventure by yourself is lonely and dull. Navi may seem "annoying" at times, but it's hard to imagine Ocarina of Time without communication with Navi, and communication partners like Navi have been employed in different forms in subsequent games in the Zelda series.
- "I think that how you feel when you have to say goodbye to a partner who you sometimes thought was "annoying" is an important element of the experience of Ocarina of Time."

The Navi character always reminded me a little of the character of "Friday" in the Mega Drive game Landstalker which came out in 1993. They are both Fairy sidekicks which accompany the sword fighting elf player character. They both talk the player character and offer suggestions to progress the story. Although Landstalker probably draws from Zelda more than the other way round. I wonder if there are any sources comparing the two that can be found?
