Shouldn't the List of supported systems go to its own page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Palpalpalpal (talkcontribs) 10:37, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, or probably just replaced with an external link to http://www.mess.org/sysinfo.html --HappyDog 17:31, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can anybody describe the design principles of Mess? And the history of it's development. In fact, this article is pretty barren apart from the list. I have marked it as a stub because, despite it's length, there is very little actual content. --HappyDog 17:31, 4 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved the list to List of systems supported by MESS. If this article is considered non-encyclopaedic then it could be deleted. It is not any less encyclopaedic to have it as a separate article though, and it is way to dominant a section if included here. --HappyDog 11:11, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Mess.gif

[edit]

Image:Mess.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 22:13, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reason for move.

[edit]

I had to move the page to this disambiguation link due to a bug. See [1]. --Stux 17:39, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Turns out the bug was a problem in my local machine. Before I revert my edits, I would really appreciate some feedback: I believe that this disambiguated name is more appropriate for the page. Is there any reason that the page should revert back to its original name (MESS)? --Stux 21:40, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I thought the style guidelines recommended the simplest unambiguous name, which in this case would be MESS. --HappyDog 19:00, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Like you said, the policy is to use the simplest unambiguous name. Mess and MESS (this page) both exist, and are separate articles. Although they differ in case, I do not thing that is unambiguous enough and can cause some confusion. Hence, the disambiguation title it currently has, I believe, is actually more appropriate. --Stux 02:26, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MESS is open source

[edit]

At least according to its FAQ: "MESS is open source so anyone who knows the C programming language can help improve the project." http://mess.redump.net/faq It also says it is "really free", not sure if that means FLOSS. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 200.254.153.10 (talk) 00:44, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MESS licensing is pretty odd. They claim to be using the MAME license, yet some of those terms would be contradicted by what they say on their "legal" page. I've removed the confusing comments about MESS not being open source, and re-written most of the licence section. It's horribly contradictory, but accurate and sourced. -Concernedresident's butler OMG! Ponies! 19:02, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted the last revision as it is incorrect. David Haywood is not a member of mamedev and hasn't been for years. (He was MAME project coordinator at one point in the past, but he was later kicked off the mamedev list for obnoxious behaviour.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.44.171.191 (talk) 01:13, 13 January 2013‎ (UTC)[reply]

David 'Haze' Haywood *IS* a member of mamedev. For a while he was not due to aforementioned behavior, but he once again is as of late 2012. See http://git.redump.net/mame/commit/?id=c294677266b8f588daee60e3514f41a38013ec1d for proof. I have hence undone your revert. Lord Nightmare (talk) 19:20, 13 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MAME merge proposal

[edit]

I think now that MESS has been completely merged with MAME in 0.162, the two WP articles should be merged too. --Morn (talk) 12:37, 1 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Keep @Morn: I don't think the topic being defunct warrants that the articles need to be merged. Topic is distinct and large enough to have its own article, with the primary article making mention of and including a "main article" hatnote linking to the MESS article. The MESS article just needs to be edited to reflect past tense instead of present tense. DA1 (talk) 17:54, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
