American?
Since when??? It says she was born in Ukraine, but it says at that top that she is "an American actress" and it says on the right (in the table) that her hometown is "Los Angeles, California". Serious lack of integrity in the info there.
If she ever became an American citizen and at the same time gave up her Ukrainian nationality, this should be explained. No details are given.
But even if the above were true - shouldn't it still say that she "is an Ukrainian American actress"? After all this is more about ethnicity than nationality. (a lot of Wikipedia articles say that a public figure is xxxx-American even though the person was born and raised and spent all life in the USA, so why shouldn't hers say Ukrainian American?) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.199.130.205 (talk) 02:35, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- Per WP:MOSBIO, ethnicity shouldn't be included in the introductory sentence unless relevant to notability. And she is not ethnically Ukrainian anyway. As I understand it, she didn't grow up speaking Ukrainian even in the Ukraine. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 07:23, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
I completely agree. I don't understand why she's called "American" when she's Ukranian. Just because she was raised in America doesn't make her American. She's Ukranian. This should be adressed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.28.73.218 (talk) 21:58, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- Actually, being raised in America does make you American, regardless of your birthplace. George W. Romney never ran for President of Mexico. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 22:16, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- This was discussed several times already. She's an American citizen. It's likely that she never had Ukrainian citizenship, since she probably left before Ukraine became an independent state. Also, it seems that she's ethnically not Ukrainian, since her native language is Russian. (Russians make up 10% of the population of Chernivtsi.) If that's the case, she's only as Ukrainian as John McCain is Panamanian. Aquila89 (talk) 22:25, 27 August 2012 (UTC)
- Please. Don't give people any ideas. :)
- On topic, I see she's categorized as a naturalized U.S. citizen, but that's not supported in the article itself, and the most reliable source I could find with Google was Yahoo! Answers. Fat&Happy (talk) 23:29, 27 August 2012 (UTC)

She speaks Russian, because Ukraine was under the rule of USSR. She's an Ukrainian-American actress if anything. Stop trying to make her purely America, her parents are Ukrainian, she's Ukrainian. Why try and deny it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.28.73.218 (talk) 01:57, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
- Read the MoS guideline for biographies at WP:OPENPARA. Make a case at that talk page if you feel the guidelines need to be changed. Fat&Happy (talk) 02:24, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
If Kunis only left Ukraine when she was 7-8, she surely spoke Russian (because everyone was forced to learn it in the USSR) and quite likely also spoke Ukrainian. Her family is all from there and they raised her as such - even after they moved (you can tell she is close to her family from her interviews and when she talks about moving). So I have to agree that stating that she is simply and solely "American" is borderline gross disinformation. Here's an example of Wikipedia referring to a public figure as "xxxx-American" when it comes to someone who migrated to the USA later in life: Igor Sikorsky. And another example: Nastia Liukin. 69.115.51.40 (talk) 15:25, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
- They made people fluently speak Russian by the age of 8? It's possible that she's ethnically Russian - I've heard her referring to herself as "Russian" in an interview, and as I've said, there are many Russians in Chernivsti. Calling her American in the lead section is only misleading if people stop reading after the first sentence. Aquila89 (talk) 17:39, 28 August 2012 (UTC)

- In the USSR nobody saw her as an "ethnic Russian"... Because "Jew" was a separate ethnicity in the USSR (as decided by the USSR Government). As far as I understand if she would have been an "ethnic Russian" or "ethnic Ukrainian" or "ethnic Crimean Tatar" her family would have not been able to get out of the USSR because the only people who where allowed out of the USSR where Jews... — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 22:05, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
Thank you guys, I don't even understand why certain wikipedia users are trying to claim she's American and not Ukranian/Russian. It's madness and ignorant. I've also heard herself claim she's Russian. American actress? My a$$! and to the person talking about George W. Romney. His family were American. There's a difference. Kunis' family are not! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.28.73.218 (talk) 23:33, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

- Henry Kissinger, then. He never served as Chancellor of Germany. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 02:12, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
- She is an American actress, since she's an American citizen, lives in America and only ever appeared in American film and TV productions. See WP:OPENPARA. Nationality or ethnicity "will mean the country of which the person is a citizen, national or permanent resident, or if notable mainly for past events, the country where the person was a citizen, national or permanent resident when the person became notable." She only became notable after she moved to the U.S. Aquila89 (talk) 11:05, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
In that case is Jim Carrey soley American? He only became notable in American productions and also has US Citizenship+lives there? End of the day. She's not America. It's pathetic that you're trying to deny her nationality. Just shows that wikipedia is an extremely idiotic place at times. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.28.90.101 (talk) 18:37, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Exactly. He's dual, as Mila is! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.28.89.152 (talk) 21:59, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
- Ukraine does not recognize dual citizenship. It's also likely that Kunis never had Ukranian citizenship, since she left the country before the independence process was finalized. Aquila89 (talk) 06:48, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
Then she has Russian citizenship! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.43.171.23 (talk) 13:53, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
- Why would she? She never lived in Russia. Aquila89 (talk) 20:19, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
Ukraine was under the rule of Russia. She either has one or the other. Can't we request a wikipedia editor to make this decision? it's getting annoying now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.28.89.152 (talk) 16:30, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- Ukraine was a part of the Soviet Union, so she had Soviet citizenship. Those became invalid after the Soviet Union dissolved.
I'm an editor and anyone can be one. Don't you mean an administrator? Aquila89 (talk) 18:55, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I do. Also, Andrew Garfield is a similar case. Surely he's solely American on your basis? I don't understand the whole "she only became notable in American productions," What does someone's career have to do with their nationality? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SamGallagherWright (talk • contribs) 20:40, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
- Andrew Garfield was born an American citizen, and is currently an American citizen, as well as a British citizen. Mila Kunis may not have been born a citizen of the Ukraine, and is almost certainly not one now. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 23:27, 27 September 2012 (UTC)
- What's the big deal is anyway? It's not like we're trying to deny her background. It's right in the second sentence of the article that she came from Ukraine. Aquila89 (talk) 06:23, 28 September 2012 (UTC)
She is NOT Ukrainian, NOR is she Russian; she is an ethnic Jew born in the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union (and born a Soviet citizen) who spoke Russian but is now a US citizen. Thus we can say she is an American Jew born in the Ukrainian SSR. That's the proper answer. And don't even get into the whole "Jews aren't an ethnicity" because even Wikipedia's policy accepts Jews as an ethnic identity and certainly the Soviet Union did. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.12.210.216 (talk) 05:10, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
I just made the change to Ukranian-born American, based on WP:OPENPARA clause 3 (original nationality) requiring that if someone is born in another country (n this case, Ukraine was part of the USSR, but is now its own country), lives there for a significant amount of time, but then becomes a citizen elsewhere, it should be written as such. --AEMoreira042281 (talk) 17:09, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
- In fact, WP:OPENPARA says: "Context (location, nationality, or ethnicity); In most modern-day cases this will mean the country of which the person is a citizen, national or permanent resident" and "Similarly, previous nationalities or the country of birth should not be mentioned in the opening sentence unless they are relevant to the subject's notability." --Jaan Pärn (talk) 17:45, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
I wonder why some make a big deal out of this Ukranian-born American in wp:lead thingy, if you want to do something useful for Ukraine on Wikipedia I made some suggestions on how to do that here. — Yulia Romero • Talk to me! 14:45, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
It should be mentioned that she is Ukrainian American or at least that she is a Ukranian-born American actress. After all she was raised (until the age of 7) in Ukraine and she is still an Ukrainian citizen. 147.129.137.60 (talk) 03:03, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- As it was discussed here, she probably isn't. She was a Soviet citizen by birth, and she likely left Ukraine before it became an independent state. Furthermore, she's an American citizen now, and Ukraine does not recognize dual citizenship. Aquila89 (talk) 09:46, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
- I would support listing her as "Ukrainian-born American" with respect to her birth country (she also is ethnically Ukrainian and Russian) so it doesn't mislead readers into thinking she was born in the United States. XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 17:59, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
- Her birth country is the Soviet Union. As we've discussed here, we can't be sure what her ethnicity is. And the article is only misleading if people stop reading after the first sentence. Aquila89 (talk) 08:52, 8 January 2014 (UTC)

Ashton in infobox
Regarding the frequent additions and subsequent removals of Ashton Kutcher from infobox, here's why he (for now) is not included: Engagement alone doesn't qualify for partner field. She has been reported to be pregnant, but this hasn't been verified by any specific person (not including anonymous "sources") or even Mila/Ashton themselves. If a named person officially verifies the pregnancy, then add him to the field. XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 00:02, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
- Okay, I was under the impression they had confirmed the pregnancy. If they have not why is it in the article? We are not supposed to be reporting speculation like that on a BLP. Regardless, I do not see why Culkin is there, while the person she has been with for two years and is now engaged to is not. Of course we should not be listing every person she has ever dated, but she is not just simply casually dating Ashton anymore. STATic message me! 00:12, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
- Certainly not casual dating at this point. My guess as to why Culkin is included is because it lasted for several years. I was originally against including pregnancy information without officially being verified, but others insisted it was noteworthy for inclusion. We then settled on stating it had been announced for the time being. I will remove it unless someone objects within the next three days. XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 00:16, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
- So she confirmed the pregnancy. Now that they are having a child this relationship will be notable to her life for the rest of it. He will be the father of her child, and they are engaged to married. Definitely worth including in the infobox now. STATic message me! 16:33, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
- I have re-added Ashton since Mila confirmed both pregnancy AND engagement on Ellen DeGeneres' show. XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 17:27, 9 May 2014 (UTC)

The quote "she gave birth to their daughter Wyatt in September 2014." needs to be changed to "she gave birth to their daughter Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher on October 1st, 2014." This source shows the valid birth certificate. Rhondalashonda (talk) 23:06, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
- Technically, giving a first name is no less accurate than a full name. Also, TMZ (the source you provided), is not considered reliable, so you'll need something else for an October 1st birth. Most sources I've seen indicate September 30th was when Wyatt was born. However, there's nothing wrong with giving out her name in more detail as long as it is reliably sourced. Snuggums (talk / edits) 23:25, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
- Even though TMZ is gossipy, they have put up a scanned copy of Wyatt's birth certificate. The birth certificate appears perfectly legitimate and clearly says date/time of birth was October 1 at 1:23 a.m.. Because of the early hour, it is understandable that the previous date has been circulated. I believe this birth certificate is legitimate and convincing enough for us to change it to Oct 1. Wikimandia (talk)
- I found a better source, People Magazine, that confirms she was born on Oct. 1 at 1:23 a.m. I will make the edit and source it. Wikimandia (talk) 13:30, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

Birth place
Kunis was born in Ukraine, and left the country at about the same time that Ukraine became independent. Is not more accurate to describe her as being born in Ukraine, rather than the USSR?Royalcourtier (talk) 23:08, 30 January 2015 (UTC)
- If she left roughly when it became independent, then it follows that during her time there, it was not independent. Therefore, it is more accurate to say that she was born in the Ukrainian SSR, and USSR, as stated in the article. --OuroborosCobra (talk) 23:27, 30 January 2015 (UTC)

- Snuggums, in this recent article http://www.telegraph.co.uk/luxury/jewellery/78065/mila-kunis-on-motherhood-marriage-and-gemfields.html Kunis refers to Kutcher as her "husband" several times. Given that several reasonably trustworthy news sites have posted news about them being married, and verified twitter accounts, such as Jon Cryer have admitted being at the ceremony I think there is enough credible evidence that they are indeed married. If the standard is to wait until Mila Kunis or Ashton Kutcher is quoted saying "I am married" it may be a long wait given how private they are. But I think enough credible evidence has been presented. However I will let you make the call on this. Fsm83 (talk) 18:01, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
- It is standard for one or both members of a couple to officially announce marriage before including it. Likewise, we waited last year until Kunis herself confirmed their engagement and pregnancy following rumors, even though that came a while after the rumors started. The above article you linked itself says they're rumors (therefore not verified). Snuggums (talk / edits) 22:10, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
- Just to clarify on the article Kunis is quoted referring to Kutcher at least 3 or 4 times as her "husband". The writer of the article is simply referencing the fact that Kunis herself is using the wording of husband even though there have been rumors of a marriage. Given the fact that the interview took place a couple weeks ago (before the events over the July 4th weekend) the writer was just pointing out the comment of using the word husband. But that is fine if you want to wait until Kutcher or Kunis is quoted as specifically saying "I am married". Fsm83 (talk) 23:07, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

It's not as it's described. In actuality, her left eye is brown with a green nimble-ring, and her right eye is green with a brown flower around her pupil. You could say both her eyes are just hazel, with reverse-colored markings? It's a unique, very odd to describe trait she has. Outfoxy (talk) 07:56, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Mila Kunis first landed a role in a Glitter Hair Barbie commercial and a Telephone Tammy commercial. 67.239.114.104 (talk) 06:28, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
- Not done: as you have not requested a specific change in the form "Please replace XXX with YYY" or "Please add ZZZ between PPP and QQQ".
More importantly, you have not cited reliable sources to back up your request, without which no information should be added to, or changed in, any article. - Arjayay (talk) 13:56, 18 December 2015 (UTC)
Career Notes
"Upon claiming that she had mastered these speech particulars, MacFarlane hired her."
Misplaced subject; grammatically reads incorrectly or open to interpretation (did she claim that she had mastered these things, or did MacFarlane claim that she had mastered these things?). Better stated at the Family Guy article under "Voice Cast":
"Once she claimed that she had it under control, MacFarlane hired her."
Consider revising. Scorch999 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 07:24, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Please remove (WP:BLPREMOVE) the sentence "Kunis also has ADHD, for which she has been medicated since childhood." and the category Category:People with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in the article, because it is poorly sourced (WP:V). --212.95.7.14 (talk) 14:57, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
- I looked into the source and while there are no red flags I could find about the reference itself, it didn't mention anything about ADHD. Removed that bit as a result. Snuggums (talk / edits) 16:43, 17 November 2016 (UTC)
Soviet-American?
Wouldn't be more apt to list her as a Soviet American Actor rather than just an american actor? Jbaer50 (talk) 07:11, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
futher more the argument that WP:OPENPARA does not call for birth place is false, as it specifically states nationality in the "guide" Jbaer50 (talk) 07:14, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
- Previous talk page discussions have agreed to just describe her as American. Any changes to that would need consensus. Snuggums (talk / edits) 15:39, 27 December 2016 (UTC)
Ukrainian-Jewish
I think the article belongs to the category Category:American people of Ukrainian-Jewish descent. — Ark25 (talk) 06:27, 22 February 2017 (UTC)
- No; per previous talk page discussions, her exact heritage is unknown. It also isn't a defining characteristic to begin with, and adding this would be WP:Overcategorization. Snuggums (talk / edits) 06:44, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

Mila kunis age
If mila was born is 83 how was she 17 in 91? Hottyzz (talk) 18:53, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
- I'm guessing you mean "7", and it's possible depending on the month of year they moved. She has an August birthday, which is in the later half of the calendar year, so it in fact is more probable than not that the day they moved was before her 8th birthday. Snuggums (talk / edits) 18:56, 15 August 2017 (UTC)
- Just to follow up, the family moved in January of 1991, so yes she was basically 7 1/2 when the family moved. Which Mila has said in interviews in the past. So the lead is correct in saying the family moved in 1991 when whe was 7 years old. Fsm83 (talk) 04:24, 18 August 2017 (UTC)

In 1991, at the age of seven, she moved from the USSR to the United States with her family. After being enrolled in acting classes as an after-school activity, she was soon discovered by an agent. She appeared in several television series and commercials, before acquiring her first significant role prior to her 15th birthday, playing Jackie Burkhart on the television series That '70s Show (1998–2006). Since 1999, she has voiced Meg Griffin on the animated series Family Guy. 2600:1700:2480:93C0:454A:70DD:9B16:6C5E (talk) 02:42, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

Nationality
Isn't she also Russian? Not knowing the citizenship laws and how they apply, are we aware that she specifically renounced Russian citizenship (if that is a requirement)? Some countries require that a person specifically renounce their citizenship by applying for such a thing. A further complication is that the citizenship (renouncement) requirements may have changed due to Ukraine's independence. --2600:6C5E:427F:F2F1:81A1:10BE:C337:730B (talk) 15:38, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
- There have been multiple past discussions on her nationality (check the talk page archives), which all concluded she should just be described as American in the opening sentence. It's fine to note how she moved from Ukraine as a child within the lead, which this currently does. Snuggums (talk / edits) 15:41, 27 July 2017 (UTC)
- @SNUGGUMS: I find it quite troubling that a Good Article cites her as being an American citizen even though I can find no source online which actually confirms this. I am sure it is true but there still needs to be a source. Zwerg Nase (talk) 18:21, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- Since a common rule of thumb is that one's nationality is determined by where they primarily grew up unless specifically indicated otherwise, it's probably based on her childhood move to LA and living in the country ever since. Snuggums (talk / edits) 19:09, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- @SNUGGUMS: "Rule of thumb" is not really sufficient when speaking about an article ranked "Good Article". The bar is high, every statement needs to be sourced. Zwerg Nase (talk) 10:44, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not saying it was sufficient, only suggesting that it was likely where this came from. Snuggums (talk / edits) 11:52, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Milena Markovna "Mila" Kunis (/ˈmiːlə ˈkuːnɪs/; born August 14, 1983) is an American actress with Jewish-Russian background.Source 1--85.212.121.167 (talk) 20:12, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
- Not done we should just use her nationality in the opening sentence here per MOS:BIO. Snuggums (talk / edits) 20:21, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
She said in a interview she is a Jew and a Russian. Also she and her whole family speaks Russian. She will even raise her kids bi-lingual ( English and RussianSource )"Russian" should be mentioned in the introductory phrase.
Other observations: It's mentioned that she is born in Soviet Ukraine in the introduction .....but the anti-semitism is of course in Soviet Union and not in Soviet Ukraine( there she was just born of course ;) )
It would be just fair and objective to add Russian in the first sentence. Her Russian roots plays a big role in her life and in the future of her kids --85.212.95.91 (talk) 23:23, 9 September 2018 (UTC)
- The opening sentence has already been addressed in previous talk page discussions, and it was agreed to only use her citizenship (American) there. Other details are more appropriate for subsequent text. The next sentence also states "In 1991, at the age of seven, she moved from Soviet Ukraine to the United States with her family", which discusses her roots adequately. Snuggums (talk / edits) 00:23, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
Shouldn’t It Be “Ukrainian and American actress?”
Ever since she moved out of Ukraine in 1991, her accent most likely faded away. In addition to this not exactly truly isn’t 100 percent American even though she has an MDY layout rather than the DMY format.
Milla Jovovich and Olga Kurylenko who are also native Ukrainians have different nationalities. The former is an American while the latter is French.
So having her labeled as an American actress isn’t good enough. Lastly, Natalie Portman’s page was supposed to have the DMY since she came from Israel. Please have somebody answer back.
Good night, 99.203.16.222 (talk) 22:51, 25 December 2018 (UTC)
No, because per Wikipedia guidelines, it is the nationality of the individual, specifically the country and nationality under which they became notable, that is included in the lead. Furthermore, according to WP:Ethnicity, place of birth, previous nationalities, and/or ethnicity are not included in the lead. For Mila, as an American citizen who gained notability in America, she would be appropriately described as "American" rather than "Ukranian-American" or "Ukranian". Not only do we not know whether she still has Ukranian citizenship (which is highly unlikely if not impossible considering Ukraine does not permit dual citizenship), but even if so, she would still be described as "American" as it is the country and nationality under which she gained notability which is included in the lead. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Apoorva Iyer (talk • contribs) 22:57, 25 December 2018 (UTC)

The part where Kunis snd Kushner appear for the first time in a Cheeto ad is incorrect. Kunis had a guest appearance on Two and a Half Men during Kushner’s tenure on the show. 2601:45:481:95B0:24AB:76F2:285E:1CFF (talk) 13:51, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

No film list
Where is her film list with all her works? Shadow4dark (talk) 01:23, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
- If you mean Mila Kunis filmography, then it contains her works and there's a referral note linking to that within "Career". Sometimes when people have many film/TV credits (or enough to take up lots of article space on a bio page), those get split off into a subpage like they have in this case. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 05:01, 18 October 2020 (UTC)
- Please check Sectioning for Filmography (and Awards) of 99% of other actors who have separate pages = subpages for that. If someone is looking for this on the main page it must be available in 1-2 sec. from the Table of Contents in dedicated section (with link). Those links in "Career" are not enough = empty according to you sections with referral links are better than none for sure.
Now, as for my changes: 1.to not have nearly empty section you are welcome to write 1-3 sentences to summarize a little there - however it is not a must 2.Awards article title was cut like in many cases of popular and awarded persons - just to have lowercase in the sentence probably - you can have 1:1 title if you like it so much - however it is of your interest to keep some standards --Jgwikid (talk) 16:59, 20 February 2021 (UTC)
- Having those isn't compulsory as you appear to suggest. The desire for them also doesn't negate how worthless it is to have otherwise empty sections that solely consist of referral links to subpages. Such a setup provides no information to readers. I'm fine with a list of films or some prose that discusses her works/awards, but it seems redundant to link to the subpages again after already doing so within "Career". For the record, this definitely isn't the only actor page without any separate sections for them, even if in the minority. Sadly, there have been times were editors get lazy by only leaving a referral link when moving filmography/accolade listings to a separate page, which simply isn't enough on its own to warrant a section. As for cutting off titles for the latter category, achieving lowercase doesn't sound like a strong rationale for doing so, and viewers who don't click them might get an impression it's only titled "awards and nominations" or something like that. Giving the subpage titles as they're named is simpler within referral links. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 17:28, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

- I wouldn't be opposed to writing up a section titled "Acting credits and awards" summarizing her filmography and accolades, similar to Amy Adams and Jessica Chastain, if that's agreeable with other editors.--Bettydaisies (talk) 05:11, 21 February 2021 (UTC)

There is a [why] tag after it is stated that Mila Kunis had started a relationship with Ashton Kutcher. The reason is that they reconnected at the 69th Golden Globe Awards, as evidenced by the following two sources.
https://www.insider.com/mila-kunis-ashton-kutcher-relationship-history-2018-8 https://www.today.com/popculture/mila-kunis-describes-exactly-how-when-she-fell-ashton-kutcher-t134615 Davidqkelly (talk) 16:28, 9 April 2021 (UTC)
- Note: I don't know why the why/clarify tag is there. It is common to indicate when someone started dating their spouse. Maybe A21sauce (talk · contribs) can clarify why they added the tag. WikiVirusC(talk) 16:44, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

Infobox image
Hi! User:Fsm83. Let's discuss these edits per BRV. MOS:LEADIMAGE states that "Lead images should be natural and appropriate representations of the topic; they should not only illustrate the topic specifically, but also be the type of image used for similar purposes in high-quality reference works, and therefore what our readers will expect to see. Lead images are not required, and not having a lead image may be the best solution if there is no easy representation of the topic." I think that a professionally taken photograph would meet the average reader's expectations better than a screenshot from a YouTube video. Infobox photographs are chosen with a variety of factors in mind, including recency, quality, and recognizability. Many prominent articles include quality lead images that aren't necessarily the most recent, including Anne Hathaway, Emma Watson, etc. Additionally, as Kunis no longer has the short hairstyle depicted in the photo, and has not visibly aged much, I believe that the 2012 image is more suitable.--Bettydaisies (talk) 23:18, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, although the image may be youtube capture I think the quality is fine. It has been posted for quite some time and honestly I think it is of better quality as far as her appearance goes then the image of 2012. The images from 2012 had been posted for years, so it was time to make a change when it finally happened with the latest image available. And in my opinion it is more appropriate to use an image that is "recent" as it better captures and demonstrates what the actor looks like today. I think the hair length is not relevant as an actress will change that throughout their career. And currently how her hair looks today is reasonably similar to how it looks in the image of 2018. It is not that different in length. Her hair was MUCH shorter when she was actually filming "The Spy Who Dumped Me" in 2017. But the image that is posted was from 2018 when she was promoting the film and her hair had grown back to a length very similar to how it looks today.Fsm83 (talk) 23:47, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Fsm83 I believe Kunis looks incredibly similar to how she did in 2013, and it would not interfere with the integrity of the BLP to feature it in the infobox. The hair length is relevant as as the infobox image itself is supposed to identify the subject and identify the person they remember her to be. She has undoubtably sported a longer length for more years of her career than the shorter one. The current picture is of less quality and is less flattering than its 2013 alternative, and I can see slim to none visual changes in her face that you claim to exist.--Bettydaisies (talk) 17:42, 13 November 2021 (UTC)
- I don't agree the current image is less flattering, nor do I think the picture is of significant less quality. The key importance to an image in my view is still to be of a recent image when they still have a current and active career. Her career has been of a reasonably long hair length (at least a bit below shoulder length) the vast majority of her entire career and the picture of 2018 reflects this well. The only time she had short hair was for that particular film (The Spy Who Dumped Me). Who knows why she did that but most likely the director requested it and it may have been tied to the fact the film required her to look like she had blonde hair for part of the film, and it was easier with shorter hair. Mila immediately grew the hair length back at the conclusion of shooting the film so you know that was not a personal choice of hers. Any more than it was a personal choice when she did the hair coloring for "Four Good Days" to fit the character. Not sure what you are talking about changes to her face. I never said anything about her face. I said that the image of 2018 is similar to how her hair length is today and the image in the info box at the top should be a recent image. I still believe that and that the current image is appropriate. Fsm83 (talk) 00:37, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Fsm83 Changes in her hair styling occured are irrelevant. The YouTube screencapture is, in terms of the quality of the photograph itself, the visual definition of it, is of lesser quality than the professional taken Comic-Con photograph. If Kunis still looks the same, then why does recency matter in the first place?--Bettydaisies (talk) 20:24, 14 November 2021 (UTC)
- I am not sure if I would call a picture taken while she sat on the stage at Comic Con as professional. The quality of image is just not that significantly different from youtube. The image from 2012 was posted on the top for years. It does not matter if her appearance has not changed much from 2012 to 2018. She is an attractive actress that is still at a relatively young age of 38. The point is when an actress or actor remains working the image at the top should be recent. 2018 is the most recent. When she does a press tour for the release of "Luckiest Girl Alive" which will probably take place in the next 3 to 6 months and you want to post a picture from 2022 that will be fine. For now there is no reason to change the image at the top. There are already images from 2012 in the article. Fsm83 (talk) 02:56, 17 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Fsm83 The quality of the photograph is professional, as was the photographer (Gage Skidmore) who took it. I'm not sure how to explain the concept of image quality but, if you zoom in on Kunis's face in both images, the 2019 image produces far poorer and blurrier pixilation than the 2012 image. I am telling you that infobox photographs are not chosen based on recency alone - they are also chosen from quality, framing, lighting, etc. There is zero reason to cite recency as the only qualification in this process. The 2012 image is of higher quality, professional caliber, a headshot crop, and better lighting. The 2019 image's only assets appear to be it's timing.--Bettydaisies (talk) 00:08, 19 November 2021 (UTC)
- You can go to wiki pages for any variety of person (actor/entertainer/sports) it does matter, and find a variety of images and the quality of the image. They are not all based on the quality of how the image was produced. That does not have a major impact. And that is also not the only qualification for the picture that has been posted. The picture that is posted should remain. As I said before if you find a picture of better quality when she does her next cycle of promotion in her works, then you can post that. But we do not need to repost the picture from 2012 that was already there for years. There is not a significant difference in the quality and zooming in does not matter. What is now posted is fine. Fsm83 (talk) 04:01, 20 November 2021 (UTC)
- Quality absolutely does have a major impact on images selected per MOS:IMAGEQUALITY and WP:COMMONSENSE. As I've already explained, there is a significant difference in the quality, crop, expression, etc. which impact the purpose of the lead image - to identify the subject in question as they are best remembered. Since it's difficult to convey an understanding of quality criteria here - I've already addressed issues of recency, appearance, etc. to have them rebuffed instead of rebutted - I'm wondering if an RfC is the best method to resolve this conflict.--Bettydaisies (talk) 05:40, 22 November 2021 (UTC)

Someone should add the following to her article. I'd do it myself, but I can't, as the article is semi-protected, and I'm not a registered user.
She doesn't speak Ukrainian. She says that when she was living in Ukraine the Soviet government encouraged people to speak Russian, and didn't start teaching Ukrainian in schools until second grade, which is when she moved to America.
The source is her 3 October 2022 interview on the podcast Conan O'Brien Needs A Friend, at https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/mila-kunis-returns/id1438054347?i=1000581346739

- It says she speaks Russian, but doesn't mention that she doesn't speak Ukrainian, or why. - 2603:9000:E408:4800:E56E:8C2E:8451:8A0C (talk) 02:17, 7 October 2022 (UTC)
- I don’t know what anyone said to her, but my parents studied Ukrainian together with Russian from the first grade, and this is in Russian-speaking Kharkov, maybe just most people spoke Russian, because it was it was historically accepted that way Цйфыву (talk) 19:18, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
- The fact that she and her family speaks Russian is sufficient and clarifies this is the language they speak. When the description "mother tongue" is used the very definition implies that it is one's native language. I have updated the page to confirm information on the podcast and that she does not speak Ukrainian. Fsm83 (talk)

First line of the second paragraph of the section, Early life: Remove former from the text of the wikilink to Antisemitism in the Soviet Union. The USSR existed until the last days of the year 1991 and, since she and her family emigrated that year, they were motivated to do so (according to this biography) in part by antisemitism they experienced while the USSR still existed. —71.105.198.152 (talk) 15:48, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

- And what kind of anti-semitism she specifically encountered, she does not explain at all, all her words are just unsubstantiated statements, obviously made just to promote and nothing more, if she and her family suffered so much from anti-Semitism, then why did they leave only in 1991, and not earlier there in the 70s or 80s, as many other Soviet Jews did Цйфыву (talk) 19:26, 12 October 2022 (UTC)
german ancestors
The name Kunis is originally from german Kunigunde or Konrad (Kuonrad). 2001:9E8:B40B:3200:F4C9:31E1:CAD1:C8D5 (talk) 08:27, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
- When people can change their identities to something completely different from their origins, I wouldn't assume German heritage solely based on a surname. Last I checked, her ancestors were from Ukraine and maybe Russia. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 12:55, 16 November 2022 (UTC)
