False accusations about Michael Jackson

After reading this article, I believe you could add this statement in the section about his voice or rumors.

There were rumors about Michael Jackson that he took hormones to maintain his high voice, but in an interview with a press member he was asked to truthfully answer that rumor and he claimed he had never taken any hormones to enhance his voice in any way.

• Agree these are estimates gross takings pre-tax and pre-expenses, but the idea the net worth would be a very small fraction of gross earnings post-2009 is a little silly. I think it makes more sense to remove a low-ball estimate rather than update it to an unambiguous figure as of now when annual earnings are so huge it's likely the net worth is exploding per annum. Currently, Forbes rates Jackson's posthumous takings north of $2 billion in gross takings. That puts net cash at least three times the 2007 figure being used. Discuss philanthropy in lead

If Jackson is described as a philanthropist in the lead, then his philanthropic activity should be prominent enough to merit discussion in the lead. The lead sentence shouldn't tease people to force them to search for topics in the body of the article. Everything important should be there in the lead. Look closer. The link I gave contains the quote "Some of the documents appear to be copies of reports that were authored by Sheriff's Office personnel as well as evidentiary photographs taken by Sheriff's Office personnel interspersed with content that appears to be obtained off the internet or through unknown sources" and goes on to say "The Sheriff's Office did not release any of the documents and/or photographs to the media. The Sheriff's Office released all of its reports and the photographs as part of the required discovery process to the prosecution and the defense." Net Worth

Seems a bit redundant to have a random 2007 net worth for Jackson in his bio. Since figures are too difficult to track accurately (Forbes have total gross career earnings for Jackson over $3 billion) and in 2007 Jackson owned (among other assets) Neverland Ranch, a $100M property and half of multi-billion dollar music catalog, this "net" worth seems wholly inaccurate even with the article's source. Currently, the Estate of Michael Jackson are claiming a much lower worth for tax purposes, also, while the IRS asset more than $1.1 billion in assets. Consider removing this figure. The reason this was used is because it was the most recent verified figure (at least before his death). Removing from infobox is understandable due to the disputes over how much it would be in more modern times (including the day he died), but I'd say the sections on his finance should stay due to the debt issues he had. Death Section/ First Sentence

The first couple of sentences in the death section read:

"On June 25, 2009, Jackson fell unconscious while lying in bed at his rented mansion at 100 North Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills district of Los Angeles. Attempts at resuscitating him by Conrad Murray, his personal physician, were unsuccessful."

I'm a little confused by the statement. He was essentially already unconscious. I think the first sentence should read:

"On June 25, 2009, Jackson stopped breathing while attempting to sleep under the care of his personal physician, Conrad Murray. Murray reportedly had given Jackson an array of medications in an attempt to help him sleep at his rented mansion in the Holmby Hills district of Los Angeles. Attempts at resuscitating Jackson were unsuccessful."

The given citation being used in the article now is the link I just provided in my previous comment. I can see support for Conrad Murray unsuccessfully trying to resuscitate him, but because I don't have a subscription to The Times, I can't look into further pages to find if it says he stopped breathing or was trying to sleep. I thought the sequence of events was widely known to the world, or at least what was reported by Murray himself. But there is a link below with a timeline of the events. He was trying to help Jackson sleep, so he gave him a bunch of different meds throughout the night. He finally gave him propofol which knocked him out and made him stop breathing. The phrase "with yearly earnings of $825 million in 2016" tends to suggest that this sort of amount is earned each year, or expected to continue each year, whereas later in the article it says that this especially large sum was mostly due to a one-off item. From what I can tell, 65M is the most recent known worldwide total given that wasn't inflated. You can see Talk:Thriller (Michael Jackson album)/Archive 6#Thriller sales for more details. The article states that 3 duets by QUEEN's Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson were completed and released. Not true. Only 1 duet has been published, to date. The surviving members of QUEEN have been quoted as saying that the act of getting that 1 duet released was like 'wading through glue.' Will the 2 remaining duets [reportedly Michael & Freddie singing 'State Of Shock,' and the song 'Victory'] be released? Who knows, but the section of the article that claims 3 songs have been released needs to be corrected.

Skin bleaching

As seen here (regarding the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article) and here (regarding the Michael Jackson article), I reverted Akhiljaxxn on the skin bleaching aspect since it is a significant topic with regard to Michael Jackson's appearance. Akhiljaxxn, the fact that Jackson had vitiligo does not negate the possibility that he was likely skin-bleaching. It's not just J. Randy Taraborrelli stating this, just like it's not just J. Randy Taraborrelli stating that Jackson had numerous plastic surgery procedures done. You can view the plastic surgery aspect as rumors as well, but it doesn't negate that a number of plastic surgery experts are clear that Jackson had numerous plastic surgery procedures. In the case of vitiligo, experts note that vitiligo shows itself in blotches, while Jackson's entire body was really light; it does not appear that this was simply makeup. The Michael Jackson article, and the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article, do not state state that he did not have vitiligo. In fact, the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article is clear that he had it and that his condition was confirmed via the autopsy. So not only is this edit you made to that article (which I revered) not needed, it deletes a significant aspect regarding the media attention given to Jackson's appearance. Skin bleaching is covered in this article and in that article because it is a significant aspect regarding the media attention given to Jackson's appearance. And since the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article is specifically about Jackson's appearance, and the skin bleaching aspect is covered lower in the article, it belongs in the lead of that article. This is per WP:Lead. We are not going to delete/censor it simply because you and others don't like it. The same goes for the child sexual abuse claims regarding Jackson; you know, when it comes to editors who dislike this aspect being mentioned and/or try to censor it in some way.

I can't take your word on what you state two doctors have stated. I can go by what doctors in WP:Reliable sources, such as this one, state. It's included in the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article and it reports: When studying a photograph of Jackson taken at the time, [The reaction by Pamela Lipkin (a prominent plastic surgeon)] was to call it "the most unusual case of vitiligo I've ever seen." Although she said it was possible that Jackson started bleaching his skin because of the disease — in order to blend his natural darker tone with the lighter blotches that were appearing — she also said that a lighter skin seemed consistent with other changes that she believes Jackson made to his features. "When you look at the other features, the skin bleaching sort of goes along with what I think was his quest for beauty," she said. "So I have to wonder what came first? Vitiligo or lighter skin?"

With this edit (followup edits here and here), I added two additional sources to the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article to support the fact that it was widely suggested that Jackson was skin bleaching. Again, us mentioning that skin bleaching was discussed does not mean that it is a fact that he was skin bleaching. We are not reporting the skin bleaching aspect as something he was definitely doing. Also, in the Vitiligo article, there is a currently a De-pigmenting section, which makes it clear that certain treatments for vitiligo can lighten the skin. Judging by this article and the Michael Jackson's health and appearance article, Jackson was using some or all of those treatments, which also explain his lighter skin tone not solely being due to vitiligo and makeup. With this edit, I trimmed a bit of the Taraborrelli commentary in the Michael Jackson article; this is because it's covered in the main article about Jackson's appearance and the claim that skin bleaching caused the vitiligo is dubious. I object to this aforementioned edit you made because, in addition to removing the skin bleaching aspect, it unnecessarily mentions Taraborrelli in the lead and starts off making it sound like it's only according to Taraborrelli that Jackson had vitiligo...before stating that his autopsy confirmed it. We don't need to mention that in the lead. All we need to state is that Jackson had vitiligo and that his lighter skin was also speculated to be partly due to skin bleaching. Plus, the end of the lead of that article mentions his death. The flow is better if his death is regulated to the end of that lead, not mentioned in two different parts of the lead. Dancer certainly could go in as well, possibly record producer given his MJJ Music label and producing/co-producing various tracks he recorded under Epic Records. I feel that the previous image, showing Jackson performing, is the better lead image; it's not as focused on his face, but it captures the overall essence of the topic. Hello. I don't wanna make a war edit. So, I will try to find the solution here :).

I changed something in the first paragraph, but was reverted by Pawnkingthree.

I don't found anything (at least if I missed) in Rolling Stone's reference and the other one, doesn't have a link. Would be better than a quote btw.

But the most important thing, is.. the statement: "the best-selling music artist at the time of his death". Probably we could have reliable references about it. And is regarding to the "living best-selling artist". But is complete unnecesary.. if not, we can add the best-selling artist (alive) or something like that. Are hyperbolic examples. Simple is better. "One of the most/best selling in music history/all-time..."

Hello, the second source (Lewis Jones) doesn't support the statement of being best-selling in 2009. However, it brings up a point mentioned later but probably should be higher up in the lead, which is that Thriller is the best-selling album of all time. Source is both Lewis James and Guinness World Book of Records. (First time for me to talk on wikipedia so please excuse any guidelines i might've missed unintentionally). First child accuser

In the opening summary, it is said that Jackson’s first child accuser committed suicide many years later. This should be clarified as it was the boy’s father, Evan Chandler who committed suicide and was the actual accuser, not the boy, Jordan Chandler. Controversy sections are generally a bad idea (more at WP:CRITS), they tend to act like shit-magnets. The general WP-philosophy is that if a "controversy" should be mentioned, it should not be singled out to a separate section, it should be in the right place in the article per chronology or topic or whatever. No controversy-section can very well be a sign that an article like this has some quality.

If there's stuff you think belongs that is not in for example Michael_Jackson#2002–2005:_Second_child_sexual_abuse_allegations_and_acquittal and it's subarticles, Health and appearance of Michael Jackson, Bubbles or whatever, get the sources and WP:BOLDly add them, or, if you think those edits would be... controversial... perhaps discuss them first. I just finished viewing the movie via, "FXM Retro", via, "DirecTV". The end credits list Michael Jackson as having played, "Himself", and that surprised me, as I didn't notice any such scene or scenes, in which that might've occurred. The movie's article doesn't mention him, and I didn't see the movie mentioned in his article.

Is it the same person? If so, why isn't he mentioned there, and the movie not mentioned here? If it is him, then shouldn't both articles be updated? LeoStarDragon1 (talk) 12:21, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

A Mischaracterization

The summary statement at the end of the opening paragraph, "made him a global figure in popular culture for over four decades" ((what happened to the italics in wiki edits?)) is a bit of an overreached statement. While the Jackson 5 were known, along with him as the leader, in his youth, possibly even in some places globally, Michael Jackson was not known globally in Asia or even Africa (or probably Latin America) until the 1980s when his airplay (and the technology of U.S. airplay and the music industry) takes on a new dimension.
