YouTube's controversial information video
On January 7, 2020, YouTube announced that some of its product features will restricted or disabled for videos "made for kids". These changes are making users' controversy. Currently, one of the announcement videos called "Important Update for All Creators: Complying with COPPA," have 14.3 million dislikes. The number of dislikes on the video surpasses the record of Justin Bieber's music video of "Baby," which has 11 million dislikes, so it should be added on the list. --Ijoe2003 (talk) 22:37, 7 January 2020 (UTC)
- Seems like you misplaced a decimal there. As of right now that video has 148,091 dislikes. FallingGravity 19:08, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
Note on "Can this video get 1 million dislikes?"
The note on "Can this video get 1 million dislikes?" says that the video broke the record for fastest to reach one million and two million dislikes, along with the previous records, but does not state which video(s) held the previous record, nor is any source referenced. If anyone is aware of or knows how to find out which video held the previous record, I suggest that it is mentioned in the note along with a source to make the note more relevant.JuicyGang (talk) 22:32, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

Discrepancies in table styles/symbols indicating music videos
I have just corrected the bgcolor for six entries where the dagger was correctly assigned, or correctly not assigned respectively. Multiple discrepancies are still remaining, but I left those entries alone where the categorization might be controversial. On that note, what is a "music video" in the sense of this article? A number of list items are listed as non-music videos (or just have the dagger applied, but not the bgcolor) which in fact appear to be music videos. --WPmurphy (talk) 03:09, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello,
This is the most disliked youtube video ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2E0yDvn0xiU&t=184s
Current: Like = 4k Dislike= 218k
Getting the percentage don't know if I'm correct.
Percentage: Dislike = 98.2% Like= 1.8%
Formula:
Total = 222
Dislike = 218/222 Like 4/222
Reason: It is a chinese propaganda and Filipinos and those who oppose communism does dislike the video because of their hate on CCP China.
- Nonetheless without political bias this should be on the list since it is qualified for the most disliked video on youtube as of date.
Please provide feedback thanks:

- Unfortunately, there seems to be a recent ongoing wave of rapidly disliked YouTube videos. This is the fourth (!) YouTube video in 30 days to have reached the 2,000,000-dislike mark in just a matter of days. I hope to the heavens that this is just a temporary wave that will not last, but as it stands, this is out of the control of any of us, and we just have to accept the wave for the time being and make the necessary updates and adjustments. A similar thing happened last year with List_of_most-viewed_online_videos_in_the_first_24_hours, when five videos during the month of April 2019 made the cut, all scoring over 38 million views in one day. Two of those videos held the record for the all-time high for the most views in 24 hours, those being "Boy With Luv" and "Kill This Love." After Taylor Swift's "Me!" video, the wave ended, followed by a ten-month gap when no new videos made it onto the list. If that wave was temporary, maybe there is hope that the "disliked videos wave" will be temporary too. Seckends (talk) 23:10, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
- P.S.: This video is still growing explosively. I won't be surprised if it surpasses YouTube Rewind 2018 by the end of the month. Seckends (talk) 23:26, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

- @Allen2: Hey there, for some context, there is a contingent of conspiracy theorists in Sushant Singh Rajput's fanbase who are trying to scrub the word "suicide" from articles related to him, as they believe in their heart of hearts that he was murdered, vs. what has been well-documented, i.e. that three medical examiners determined that his death was a "clear case of suicide", and two additional doctors signed off on that determination.[1][2][3] Cyphoidbomb (talk) 22:59, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
Edit warring over Sadak 2
Discussion closed by original poster, who has resolved issue

Trickybook has resorted to edit warring in removing sourced content relating to the Indian movie Sadak 2. The content followed the phrase "the death of popular Indian actor Sushant Singh Rajput":
The cited reference, International Business Times, India Edition states: "They have also been running a campaign to boycott the movie Sadak 2, as the fans think that Mahesh Bhatt is responsible for Sushant's death." I believe this content is necessary to understand what Sushant Singh Rajput has to do with Sadak 2, since the late actor was not among the cast. And it should not be removed without consensus and by edit warring. NedFausa (talk) 22:31, 12 August 2020 (UTC)

Copy paragraph to efn note on list for "Sadak 2 Trailer"?
So the Indian trailer video Sadak 2 just appeared on the top 50 list of most-disliked YouTube videos, so can I copy the paragraph "In August 2020, the Indian ... within 8 hours of upload on YouTube." to an explanatory footnote on the list in the "Notes" column for that outcome reason? --Allen (talk / ctrb) 22:49, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
- I just inserted the efn note citing that "it's the most-disliked movie trailer on YouTube", so I don't think copying that whole paragraph would be necessary at my opinion. --Allen (talk / ctrb) 06:11, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Allen2: I added a [citation needed] tag to your note. Unless I'm missing something, there is no source cited for calling it "the most-disliked movie trailer on YouTube at the time it was uploaded." And what does that even mean? NedFausa (talk) 06:39, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- @NedFausa: I would clarify that this from India.com would be the cited source, citing that "Sadak 2 trailer has emerged as the most disliked trailer on YouTube within 24 hours of its release." Can I add that citation reference next to that note? I would also clarify my claim that "at the time it was uploaded" mean how many views, likes, or dislikes the video got in the first 24 hours (or within a day). --Allen (talk / ctrb) 07:07, 13 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Allen2: Thank you for explaining. To say it became the most disliked trailer on YouTube "within 24 hours of its release" makes much more sense, to me at least. Please revise your note accordingly and add the India.com reference. NedFausa (talk) 15:52, 13 August 2020 (UTC)

Should this article be renamed?
I don't have a great suggestion for what an alternative should be, but my question is whether or not this article should be renamed to something like "List of most-down-voted YouTube videos". To me there's a blurriness the way we're using the term "disliked", which traditionally meant that people had a certain amount of animus for the thing they watched, vs. the YouTube terminology of "disliking" something by thumbing it down. The latter could mean they watched the video and hated it, or they could have voted it down for some other reason, like finding Justin Bieber annoying or to send a message to Mahesh Bhatt (Sadak 2) because they're pissed off about his alleged engagement in nepotism. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:38, 14 August 2020 (UTC)
- I think not, because we say "most-disliked YouTube videos" will be fine with both like and dislike button for every video rating available. "Most-down-voted YouTube videos" would be confusing to call this out in my opinion. --Allen (talk / ctrb) 00:40, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
- Or how about a redirect if we could call that? --Allen (talk / ctrb) 00:50, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
- I was going to suggest renaming it Herd mentality, but quickly discovered Wikipedia already has a page by that name. Maybe the two should be merged. NedFausa (talk) 03:39, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
- Ned, I appreciate the humorous suggestion. Allen2, I'm not quite sure if I understand your response, and while I don't mean to be disrespectful, there's a linguistic nuance that I'm suggesting is potentially problematic and I can't tell from your response if you understand the problems I'm specifically addressing. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 06:09, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
- You make a good point but I think social media use has expanded to such a point that most people are familair with the use of dislike as an action verb rather than an emotion verb. Witness even the use of "hate" in such a manner .... "don't hate me" on social media usually means "don't post hateful replies on my page", not a command to other users to control their internal emotions. —Soap— 19:35, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

Note on "made for kids" entries of this list
We seriously need to update this page more frequently. Videos like "Despacito" and "Shape of You" have seen relatively little change in the last 33 days (since the April 8 revision to the page), but other videos, especially the child-oriented ones, have increased exponentially (I wouldn't be surprised if someone did the math and it turned out to be a true exponential curve) during that time. As you can see in my latest revision to the page, the ratings for a Sesame Street video increased by nearly 50 percent with the dislikes increasing from 1,330,000 to 1,919,000, while the likes of that same video increased from 2,338,000 to 3,216,000 (all figures rounded to the nearest thousand). Seriously, why are these "kid" videos growing so quickly? Seckends (talk) 13:32, 11 May 2020 (UTC)
- See below for my theory. Tablets have been around for a long time, but YouTube kids being a standalone app is relatively new. —Soap— 21:20, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
Kids music videos
The entries that are nursery rhymes or children songs are marked as not being music videos. These are still music videos, they are just music videos for small children. Really, these videos should be differentiated as a separate group as they seem to now dominate the list (over 50%). — al-Shimoni (talk) 00:53, 22 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yes I can see a good argument for breaking the kids' videos out separately, though I like the article the way it is since having just one table allows us to sort everything at once. As to why there are so many kids' videos on the list, I have a theory:
- Most of the audience of these videos are not just children, but young children, many too young to read. In the past, parents turned on the TV and played children's music videos that filled the room. Nowadays, a lot of kids, even the very young, have their own tablet with the YouTube
Kidsapp installed and their videos are right up close. The kids are almost certainly hitting the Like and Dislike buttons at random, with adults and older kids who also watch the videos contributing the remaining vote counts. - I remember that back when YouTube allowed commenting on kids' videos, there was always a flood of comments like fdghekrshjark ldgneraio gjnmioes k68ur45ty4lbm df on channels like Cocomelon even though Cocomelon posts their videos at midnight Pacific time when their audience is mostly asleep. Indeed there were so many that whenever I posted a comment on a kids video, my own tiny YouTube channel would get comments like that as well from kids just randomly pressing my name on the screen.
- Thus, I theorize that the Like/Dislike count on kids' videos is largely meaningless and would not object to having them separated from the rest. On the other hand, I think it still helps us to keep just one big list since it helps us compare other variables. —Soap— 19:23, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
- Okay it would appear that the YoUTube Kids app disables the Like and Dislike buttons ... probably a good idea ... but not every kid with YouTube is using YouTube Kids. Perhaps the trend will abate somewhat now as more parents migrate over. —Soap— 21:22, 15 August 2020 (UTC)
How do we edit the list?
"Please do not selectively update the numbers for individual videos; all dislike counts should be updated at the same time, as well as updating the "as of" date in the Lead section. Please update the access dates in the video's references as well."
As this instruction is very brief I am trying to understand how does someone make an edit to the list? Is this the way?
- Go to all the 50 videos, Get the latest dislike count, Re-sort the list, Update the ranks. Update the access dates in all references.
Is it even practical to do this? How much time does the whole process take? What if someone wants to come in here and add a new entry to the list that has got into the top 50? Jay (talk) 14:14, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
It's high time the number of dislikes for Sadak2 is updated! Prajwal B Mantanavar (talk) 01:17, 14 August 2020 (UTC)\
I'll certainly admit that I wouldn't put all that work into editing a list of fifty videos if there was only one video that interested me. The edit notice suggests it's been like this for four years ... have people been actually obeying? i looked at a few edits and it seems not, .... i guess we could interpret "please" as a suggestion, not a command, but if nobody is doing it, it might be time to take it down. —Soap— 00:06, 16 August 2020 (UTC)

If the section for "Video title" on the chart supposedly has the titles of each video, why are music videos just the name of the song? Am I missing something?
I understand how the percentage of dislikes is calculated. But would someone please explain how it is determined which videos are the most disliked (i.e., which ones have the highest percentage of dislikes)? Does a Wikipedia editor take a quick look at the billions of videos on YouTube to determine that one of them has a higher dislike percentage than those on the list? Right now the highest percentage is 97.59%. Does that mean that someone has verified that there is not a video in all of YouTube with 98%, or even tied at 97.59%? Or is this just the best guess of whoever is editing the list at the moment? Sundayclose (talk) 00:50, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
- @JFBridge: Regarding this edit, did you search the millions of videos on YouTube today to determine the 50 most disliked? Or did you find an independent reliable source that identifies the 50 most disliked videos today? The video linked in the article provides number of dislikes for that video only, but it has nothing about the number of dislikes on the remaining millions of videos on YouTube. Thanks. Sundayclose (talk) 03:32, 15 September 2020 (UTC)
The list is cited to a website that automatically sorts all of the videos by factors including dislikes; it is essentially searching through all of the videos and putting them in order, but at a scale well-beyond that of a human. Also, the list is by total dislikes; the percent dislike is just extra data that helps contextualize the dislike total (I.e. is this a hated video or is it just a highly watched one thats just gotten a ton of votes across the board). - @Spirit of Eagle: I'll believe it when you give me a link to the website that works now (not just in the past), and that is updated regularly. I'm not the smartest person in the world, but I clicked a lot of links in this article and nothing provided regularly updated scans and sorts for all videos on YouTube. The latest update was 16 months ago, so that's not "automatic sorting". And the current list in the Wikipedia article is grossly different, meaning editors have been guessing, a clear violation of WP:NOR by any reasonable standard. We also need some evidence about the channel MyTop100Video's method; it's not explained. In a few hours I could create a channel and select what I consider the most disliked videos, but if I don't provide any evidence of my method it's worthless.
- If you're right, many thanks. If not, your saying something doesn't make it true. You would be about the tenth person who has told me that everything is properly sourced with regular updates, but so far nobody has provided the evidence. And I'm fine with total dislikes, but only if all the millions of videos are searched regularly. This article has languished in the hands of individual editors who have their own ideas about the most disliked videos for a long time. It has been up for deletion or redirect three times. I would like for it to stay because I consider it notable, but as it is the original research in selection of the videos is against Wikipedia policy. I'll seek input from message boards related to reliable sources and verifiability. Hopefully someone can provide a good answer. Sundayclose (talk) 17:00, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
- I concede the point. The old website is gone and trying to click the link took me to a site that tried to force my iPhone to make a phone call. Upon closer inspection, there is a rather plain problem with verifiability. Spirit of Eagle (talk) 18:10, 17 September 2020 (UTC)
I asked for feedback at WP:RSNB. For the benefit of newcomers to the discussion, here's another reminder that the article has been proposed for deletion or redirect three times, but the basis of this has been notability. It seems that the notability question has been settled (so far at least). The article has never been proposed for deletion for improper sourcing or for complete inability to find proper sources. I hope the article can remain. But it may need some major rewriting. The title and concept of "50 most-disliked" may have to be scrapped. But I'm not sure what would replace it. I don't think an article about the 50 most-disliked three or four years ago makes much sense. I hope others can come up with ideas. If the article needs to be deleted we need help from people who are concerned about reliable sources, not just fans of the article. But I hope it doesn't come to that. Thanks. - Is there a list of this information somewhere else, or just dated articles? Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 16:03, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Emir of Wikipedia: To my knowledge there is no list available for the last two or three years. Even if someone created a list, it would need frequent updating to serve our purposes. The list in the current article is considerably different from the original source (from years ago), so it basically reflects a hodge-podge of the original list and later changes by editors based on their POV guesses, which is unacceptable. I attempted to remove just one item basically as a test to see the reaction, and there was pushback from several editors who claimed that sourcing the individual video was sufficient, oblivious to the fact that the other millions of videos on YouTube are being unaccounted for. If no external, reliable, updated list is available, the article either needs to be retitled and refocused (and I have no idea what that would be) or deleted. It has remained here for years in bad shape apparently because no one considered the need for reliable sourcing, or the fans of the list decided in AfDs to let it stay because it's notable. Sundayclose (talk) 16:50, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- It is definitely notable as shown by the sources, but if there is not source for the entire list in its current format then it needs changing. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 17:29, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- To get to the point, the overarching topic is notable but we don't have a single source that actually sorts videos by dislikes. (Normally, I would chalk up sorting things as a routine calculation but there are billions of videos on YouTube; it is simply impossible for a human being to manually do this). If no source can be found, I propose transitioning this article to a "List of YouTube videos known for their high number of dislikes" type-article or just create a general article on dislikes on YouTube. Basically, I propose just saving what can be saved. This is a not desirable outcome, but maintaining the status quo without a source is not an option. Spirit of Eagle (talk) 03:39, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
- If we change the article to "most disliked" in a general sense, we need strict criteria for inclusion. Otherwise lots of people will add their favorite to the list and then we have endless battles on this talk page. I think there needs to be both a minimum number of dislikes AND a minimum percent of dislikes. I'm not committing to specific numbers at this point, but I think we might consider a minimum of 2 million dislikes AND a minimum of 30% dislikes. I haven't looked closely but that would seem to get it down to about 40. That will allow a little expansion if necessary. It's reasonable to keep the list to a maximum of 50 no matter what the other criteria. If these criteria were adopted and the list reaches 50 and someone wants to add a video, the new addition cannot make the list longer than 50, so a current video would have to be deleted. Whatever figures we select, this needs to be a very limited list because it will attract excess. Sundayclose (talk) 18:55, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
- As an alternative, we could also restrict entry to videos that received independent coverage due to their high volume of dislikes. This would mean the article would be based heavily on secondary sources and that there is less opportunity for independent research. Spirit of Eagle (talk) 03:50, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- That seems like a good starting point or even end point. Emir of Wikipedia (talk) 17:23, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- I can agree to that, but will it remain a list article with the table? If not the article needs a different title. I prefer eliminating the table and "List" in the title. Otherwise it could get very cumbersome with a table that has details about the video beyond the number of dislikes.
- It needs to be clearly stated somewhere that the independent coverage must specifically point out the high volume of dislikes. In other words, if John Doe writes an article in the New York Times about how much he and his friends hate the video, that's not sufficient. The source must mention the volume of dislikes.
- This would reduce the article to just a few videos with the current sourcing, but that's fine with me. It will probably grow. Some of the lead appears to have acceptable sources assuming the citations are up to date. Right now there is some commentary linked in the "Notes" column, but some of that is unsourced and needs to go. Sundayclose (talk) 18:58, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
- We could divide the article into broad categories such as movie trailer, music video, YouTube Rewind, etc. if we did this, we could either created a bullet-pointed listing (easy to edit; harder to read/sort through) or use a new table system modeled after the one used at PewDiePie videography (which I think does a good job categorizing the information, although we would obviously have different section). Either way, I don’t see a need to maintain the current table. (As for the title, I think a change will be needed, but we should hold off until we have a better idea on what the new article will look like). I agree with your comment on coverage. As I was updating the list today, I noticed that "Learning Colors - Colorful Eggs on a Farm" is now a private video. If you click the link now, you are taken to a page that says "Private video Sign in if you've been granted access to this video." I searched on Google for official information about this change, and I found none. Should this newly privated video be removed from the list then? Seckends (talk) 21:49, 8 January 2021 (UTC)
- Yup. And unless I'm mistaken, it looks to me like Wikipedia is deciding how these videos rank. If this would be a perfect world, YouTube or some other entity would provide a list of "most-disliked" videos and we'd list the videos and the numbers and use that source as a reference. But who decided that Humpty the train on a fruits ride is the #14th most-disliked YouTube video? A Wikipedia editor who didn't happen to find anything higher or lower? This list has significantly more detail than the List of most-viewed YouTube videos and the List of most-liked YouTube videos. For example, each of those lists have 30 videos, while this one has 50. Workaround to make YouTube dislikes visible.
If you watch a video while not logged into YouTube, (either while in incognito mode or in a separate browser where you are not logged on) the dislike counter becomes visible. If it appears to not work then usually closing and opening the browser makes it appear again. This should be a useful workaround so people who cant see the dislike counter can still keep track of it. If this workaround does not work then unfortunately YouTube likely fixed it. Randitor (talk) 04:18, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

Update the list
Recently, YouTube has made dislike invisible to "all" our users and we can't not see it. However, YouTube made the dislike still visible with API and the Chrome extension "Return the dislike" so we can still count the number of dislike with the extension turn on. But, I heard of in December 13th, YouTube will hard-remove the dislike in API and we can't see it anymore, by anyways. Thingofme (talk) 01:36, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

RfC: Add {{Historical}} to this page
YouTube has announced today that they will be hiding the dislike count for all videos, meaning this list will be outdated as time goes by. Despite that, I feel this list shouldn't be deleted, but instead used as a reference for how disliking was before YouTube made their decision, so I propose that {{Historical}} be added at the top of the page. 2603:301D:22B2:4000:5089:BBC2:7491:209 (talk) 21:00, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

Alternatively, we could use it as a static archive, since it's only used for legacy purposes. My personal thoughts: I hope that once Susan Wojcicki (who in my opinion has done a lot of damage to YouTube during her tenure as CEO) and/or Matt Koval leave, maybe a thought would be given to restoring the public dislike count. Now, with the public dislike count gone, scam content will thrive, making the site more of a cesspool, and people will also leave "dislike comments", making the site more toxic, therefore YouTube will be in a self-inflicted state of decline. Keep full numbers or partially abbreviate? (Dislike numbers before being hidden)
Earlier on, I added in a new column showing the amount of dislikes a video had before having its count being hidden. For historical reasons I decided to type out the full numbers, but now I'm having second thoughts about it, and I am thinking of partially abbreviating them for two reasons.
Consistancy: All of the other counts are abbreviated, like the estimated dislikes and the dislike percentage. The full number kind of sticks out and looks weird with the others.
Accuracy: I noted in my edit summary that with the exception of the first 6 videos (that were accurate on every digit,) the full dislike counts are very close to the actual dislikes, which are based off of the YouTube API. They are off from the real count by about 5 to 150 dislikes, as I wrote them down first, before moving into the top 10. Now, they are accurate to the thousands, so I thought I can just partially abbreviate it to 5 digits, excluding the hundreds and below. For example, with YouTube Rewind 2018, 19,943,592 would look like 19.943M. What do you guys think about it?
- This is my very first time editing a talk page, so if I am missing things / did something wrong, apologies.

- Well livecounts.io and counters like it are live too and organize stats better but whatever works is okay. As of now, youtubelikecounter's dislikes are all at 0 again. Sigh. — 2603:6011:9600:52C0:6594:3843:DA62:C33E (talk) 20:23, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
- Why, there are something is not true. "Return YouTube Dislikes" extension would show dislike and it increases, but livecounts.io also show dislikes... Thingofme (talk) 15:52, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
- 19:00 UTC this day - YouTube removed the dislikes and we can no longer see it. Thingofme (talk) 00:51, 14 December 2021 (UTC)

Chrome Extensions
It's still possible to see the dislikes. In fact it isn't even that hard. Malcolmmwa (talk) 21:35, 10 February 2022 (UTC) Should we include the fact that you can just install an extension? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Malcolmmwa (talk • contribs) 21:36, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
New Record????
I come to inform you that thanks to the new format of youtube videos known as "shorts" has allowed videos to become more viral in such a fast way that they go unnoticed.
The point that two days ago I found not only one but TWO VIDEOS with this format that easily surpassed the 20 million dislikes of the infamous 2018 rewind, I already updated the table with their references, the new record holder are youtubers Lucas and Marcus with the figure of 30 million Rob17p (talk) 23:28, 27 August 2022 (UTC)
- Oh shoot! This page is screwed! I really hate this, but I spent around 2 hours looking for something that tracks the most disliked YouTube videos and I came up empty handed. The website that this Wikipedia page used is no longer there. The only methods I found was to go through each YouTube video manually and extract the dislikes from them, but that would take ages; especially with using a computer program to do it. This page is essentially almost worthless now, and I really hate that. Master106 (talk) Master106 (talk) 08:30, 1 November 2022 (UTC)

The estimate dislike count is total inaccurate when compared to the live Youtube API. It looks like some of the number on a few videos have been inflated, as some of the post December 12, 2021 video estimates is fairly accurate.
For example Revenge 😂 estimated dislike count is 53.68M when the live API shows 723,748 Wakt wakt ki baat h 😎🔥 #shorts #bewafa timated dislike count is 29.04M when the live API shows 429744 Oddly satisfying 🤪🤪🤪 Kids don’t try at home #thatlittlepuff #Puffanythingyoulike #catsofyoutube 758390 Kmc0011 (talk) 02:43, 21 December 2022 (UTC)

Templates
All the YouTube videos being referenced under {{cite web}} really should be moved to be under {{cite AV media}} (or {{cite Youtube}} so they are cited in a proper template for the format. BhamBoi (talk) 06:14, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
