I believe that The William and Mary High School Model UN (WMHSMUN) should be added to the list because it is a well established conference, attended by delegates of many states and countries. h-sc2017 (talk) 02:44, 12 November 2012 (UTC)
Horrible list
There are serious problems with this. One, the organization leaves much to be desired. Lengthy opening and then a list with no semblance of order. It should be divided into 1. middle school, 2. high school, 3. university, 4. other. It is also horribly incomplete. How can THIMUN-Singapore and BEIMUN not be on this list??? ludahai 魯大海 (talk) 10:56, 11 December 2012 (UTC)
September 14th 2013 changes to the Vancouver Scene
Realizing that Vancouver has a massive high school circuit, I made the decision to create a new paragraph detailing it's scene. As it is now listed there I moved CAHSMUN from the North America listings to the Vancouver ones, but decided to keep VMUN as to my belief VMUN is the largest high school conference in the Pacific Northwest= fairly significant.

New Editing
Hello! I've been editing the article Model United Nations and came upon this article. To me, I think the article should take one of the two routes. Either:
- Become a proper list, with the information for MUNs to be in the article Model United Nations, OR
- Become a combined list and article with brief information on both MUNs in general and each MUN.
I would personally like the article to become the latter, but there are too many problems with the articles as it is. For me, the problems are:
- Sources: There are almost no reliable secondary sources for the concepts described on the page.
- Range: Most of the concepts seem to describe a selectively local group. Since this is about MUNs in general, it should have sourced content about MUNs in general.
- Organization: The sections should have better organization and be arranged with a general reader in mind.
Please note WP:NOTADVERTISING and that cases should follow WP:N. I will start by removing MUNs which do not have reliable secondary sources referenced, even though it may be notable. If you wish to re-add the individual MUNs, please reference notable secondary sources. Thanks! Kkj11210 (talk) 01:29, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
UPDATE: I have removed all the conferences that were used mainly primarily sources (not reliable).Kkj11210 (talk) 02:28, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
UPDATE: I have summarized the content for the Model United Nations. Please add more information about various contests. Thanks. Kkj11210 (talk) 12:18, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
RE: New Editing
I don't seem to mind the way you're going with this page. I've added it to my watchlist and will update it when I have the time, plus revert stuff that blatantly violates WP:NOTADVERTISING. - WP:N is a slippery slope to run with these things since it may be regionally significant. As a general rule, I'd say conferences with >200 total participants do *not* satisfy notability requirements. Finally, how do you reference secondary sources for conferences? To be fair, lots of these things like participant numbers are written in press releases and the like, and especially in Europe, press coverage is more often than not in localized languages. Can you specify what you mean?
Also, I'm fairly active and around in the northern european scene, I'll see what I can dig up on conferences that are noteworthy and put them on there. Also, yeah, we need THIMUN on here. AskeKjaer (talk) 00:18, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hello! Let me clarify a few things on what I mean. I might be wrong, so please feel free to correct me. The article when I first saw it was mostly composed of advertisement using the official MUN sites as sources. Since such sites are not monitored by other parties or peer-reviewed, I thought that such information was untrustworthy. That's why I put an emphasis on secondary sources. For secondary sources, I'm following WP:N which means that the competition must have 'received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject.' I'm not too sure of the 'general rule,' since quantity does not automatically give an inherent significance for the competition. Sources in local languages are fine, but please make sure that the competition has enough international significance to be noted on this page. Adding THIMUN is fine as well. Thanks! Kkj11210 (talk) 13:24, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- To be fair, mate, WP:N is about what should have its own article - not what should be mentioned in the first place on here. For example, you can find several entries on Music venues in the Netherlands that do not have their own articles because they simply aren't relevant enough, but this doesn't mean that they shouldn't be on the list. ("The notability guideline does not determine the content of articles, but only whether the topic should have its own article.")
- Notability requirements are a *lot* more lenient on lists, and only listing conferences that receive significant international coverage could limit the scope of a list like this one arbitrarily - furthermore, it's not like newspapers are peer-reviewed.. I've worked with PR for a few years now, you'd be surprised what papers just gobble up from press releases with absolutely no critical evaluation of the source. Finally, even when googling THIMUN and other undoubtedly relevant conferences, the amount of tertirary or secondary sources you get on them isn't even relevant. I don't honestly think any conference short of NMUN and THIMUN should have their own article, but I do believe that they should be listed on here. AskeKjaer (talk) 16:48, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- That's true, but I was just using WP:N as a criterion to sort out the article. There are about 400 MUNs around the world, so the criterion I was using is just temporary - and was used just to remove advertising. So you're right. But for now, I want to stick to secondary sources to establish notability. The list we had before - with absolutely no notes on notability - was too much (or so I thought). Thanks Kkj11210 (talk) 06:04, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
- I just found WP:LSC and it seems to follow WP:RS, so let's keep the guideline for notability. Thanks Kkj11210 (talk) 14:56, 30 November 2013 (UTC)
Notable Conferences
Hello,
I unfortunately do not have the time to add to this list and honestly I don't quite understand how to do it in Wikipedia format. But for those who would be so inclined, I have included links to BestDelegate (model un site) articles about some of the most major conferences in the US, thus providing a reliable secondary source (and I am sure their school newspapers have articles as well for another).

Subheader for defunct conferences
Some conferences no longer exist or have gone inactive. I say we create a table of defunct high school and college conferences. Any opinions about this? Pilaz (talk) 19:09, 28 April 2019 (UTC) Pilaz
Hi - some housekeeping seems necessary indeed, since at least half of the conferences on this list don't meet the current criteria for being included (i.e. do not have a recent date). However, rather than keeping a list of defunct conferences, one might choose to just remove them.
Would also suggest renaming the list to "notable conferences" and adding a size criterion. A cut-off of 300 delegates and/or 30 delegations (schools) seems reasonable for the high-school conferences, perhaps more for the college ones. This would require adding a column "# delegates" and a column "# delegations". At least one of those columns would have to be filled.
Finally, adding a direct link to a conference website would make the table much more useful, and the up-to-dateness more easily verifiable. So I would suggest linking the entries in the "Name" column directly to the external conference websites, where they exist. If none exists, it's a possible indication that the conference may not be so notable. Wiki3133 (talk) 10:06, 15 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Wiki3133, thanks for the three suggestions.
- I'm very much in favor of deleting conferences instead of keeping defunct conferences at this time, so I favor removing the ones that don't qualify. However, as far as dates go, one just has to look up the websites and see if the conferences have announced dates recently. It's a lot of manual work, but it can be done. So I wouldn't remove conferences because the dates have not been updated, just the ones that haven't been updated AND have no dates left. I'm adding the task to the to-do list.
- I don't think that adding a size criterion is a really good idea, but we can discuss it. The primary reason is that there wouldn't be any secondary source to give substance to such a claim. When a newspaper picks up the number of delegates, they generally just base their reporting on what the conference claims. So any conference can cook the numbers if they really want. And how could we get past the fact that conferences also lose delegates once in a while? One potential solution could be to include a range of delegates present, but I see many problems along the way.
- Finally, I really don't think we should include links to conference websites, because Wikipedia is not a repository of links and because it would not add anything to the page besides spam (and, of course, WP:NOTPROMO). The reason that this page is protected is because it was a linkspam magnet. Google works just fine to find conferences.
I hope you find time to contribute to this article as well. Pilaz (talk) 20:59, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
Selection criteria
According to the UNA-USA, in 1993 there were over 175 conferences, just in the United States. This makes keeping a list without selection criteria impossible now that Model United Nations has gone worldwide. I propose a more stringent list of selection criteria.
A conference can be on this list if it fills both criteria for inclusion below:
Criteria for inclusion | Description | Fails if | Should be included | Should not be included |
---|---|---|---|---|
1. Still exists | Conference must have been in session in the current year or previous year to be notable | No source documents its existence in the current or previous year. Fails WP:V | Conference X was last held in February 2025. It is currently January 2026. The conference should therefore be included in this list. | Conference Y was last held in July 2024. It is currently January 2026. |
2. Five years of age | Must be in at least 5th year of existence to be notable | There is no secondary source that documents that it existed at least 5 years ago. | Conference X is established in 2016. It is currently 2020, which marks its 5th year of existence. | Conference Y is established in 2017. It is currently 2020, which marks its 4th year of existence. |
Please share your thoughts and feedback. I plan to implement changes to this list in two weeks if no one objects to this new proposed consensus. Pilaz (talk) 15:46, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

- @ConsulesMUN: the reason we ask for a secondary source is explained in detail here. Readers must be able to verify the information provided: a citation is the way to do that. As a result, we require all new MUN conferences to provide a secondary source (independent from the subject, i.e. a newspaper article, a Best Delegate article...) to back the information provided in this list. - Hello! On this list, the established consensus is that a secondary source must be used to justify the inclusion of a MUN in this list (See Discussions 1, 2). This is motivated by one of Wikipedia's policies regarding lists, which states that a reliable source must be provided to add an entry to a list. Furthermore there are hundreds of conferences in the world which do not all deserve inclusion here, especially since Wikipedia isn't trying to be a directory. Your website is a self-published source, and as a result it is not accepted as a reliable source. To add your MUN, we'd like to see an external citation from a secondary source. Surely, if you've been around since 2005, someone must have written something about your conference. Once you find it, feel free to reply here or leave me a message on my talk page. Addition of Urios Utrecht Model United Nations (URUMUN) to the list of intercollegiate MUN conferences. This conference is held in Utrecht, the Netherlands and will be held for the fifth time in 2020. The conference will be held around february - march. Mamjansen2120 (talk) 09:19, 4 July 2019 (UTC)

Conference website: https://www.royalrussellmun.co.uk/
The website mentions this year being the 38th edition, which would have it being established in 1982 if it has run every year since then, but the Wikipedia article for Royal Russell School states 1981 - this may need further looking into. If more needs to be added, please let me know. A Doctor Who (talk) 20:44, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
EDIT 17/10/2019: Should we also order these by chronological order (from September to August, as that is the typical academic year)? A Doctor Who (talk) 17:10, 17 October 2019 (UTC)
- Done - I hunted down a secondary source that confirmed age and existence of conference. It meets the requirements given and is now sourced slightly in excess of most others on the list. If there's a dedicated secondary source that's well worth adding. Nosebagbear (talk) 22:46, 17 October 2019 (UTC)
- @A Doctor Who: as a slight follow up to this, 1981 does seem to be the original year Nosebagbear (talk)

Request to add IITBHU MUN in the list of MUNs in India, as IITBHU MUN is currently one of the biggest MUNs in northern India and has conducted over a decade of fruitful conferences since its inception in the year 2012. Should future dates be kept?
Should the last column of both tables, "last dates/future dates", be kept as is?
A. Remove the column entirely;
B. Keep last dates only;
C. Keep future dates only;
D. Keep both, leaving the column as is.
Discussion
The column "last dates/future dates" originated to isolate in a single place the spam of conference dates in the early days of this page, when it was still mostly a WP:LINKFARM. As the clutter got removed, the column was used to make sure that (1) the conferences has been held recently (2) editors who wanted to add prospective dates could do so. However, with the COVID-19 pandemic, most editors stopped updating future dates as conferences were postponed or cancelled en masse; resulting in mostly blank columns. The question is whether this column still serves a role today. In my personal opinion, only the last date at which the conference was held should be kept, since it helps us differentiate active conferences from defunct conferences. - Ping: editors who substantively contributed to this page in the last year. @Hollywood43ar:, @Slasher 3:, @Patrick Cristiano:. Courtesy ping to substantive contributors to Model United Nations of the past year: @Nosebagbear:, @Ayushguptaxd:, @Engr Umar Farooq Gul:, @Matej553:, @Adamuter:, @LassusAvem:, @Tomorrow and tomorrow:, @Drmies:, @MatthewHur29:, @Umbrella Corp786:.
Survey
- B, as nominator. With a preference for only the year, per the discussion above, as it helps us differentiate active from inactive conferences; leaving "future dates" columns would make this list perennially incomplete and more often than not, not up to date, and require constant updates. If we only kept the last year at which the conference was held, all conferences could be checked in one single check. This would not be possible if "future dates" were kept, since many conferences do not announce upcoming dates immediately. Pilaz (talk) 14:03, 29 January 2022 (UTC)

In the list of interscholastic high school Model United Nations Conferences, the Aitchison College Model United Nations Conference (ACMUN, www.acmun.pk) certainly deserves a mention. It consistently attracts 700+ delegates every year from all over the world, including India, Benin, Saudi Arabia, and so forth. It is based in the city of Lahore, and hosted by Aitchison College, one of the country’s most prestigious educational institutions. 2407:AA80:116:884:C4FC:D461:6DF7:9117 (talk) 00:16, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

Conflict of Interest - authorised edit request
Hi,
Pinging another primary editor on the main article @Pilaz:. I have a COI with regard to Cleveland International MUN (CLEIMUN), so thought I'd ask for a +2 view before adding to this list. They're hosted by a couple of schools, and one of them has an article for the original conference Link. Would be appreciated if you could let me know with some clear eyes if there's any issue or if I'm good to go ahead and add. Cheers :) Nosebagbear (talk) 17:51, 8 November 2022 (UTC)
Seems good to me, Nosebagbear. Would be nice to have a founding date too and a source to back it up too, since we only include conferences that have a minimal age. Pilaz (talk) 14:31, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
Updating sources
Hey everyone, I saw that mymun has changed it's website a good bit and the sources of the article are pointing to pages that no longer exist. I would want to propose updating the sources to the new pages.
To give an example: ALMUN 2015 is no longer available at mymun.com/muns/almun-2015 but at mymun.com/conferences/almun-2015
It seems a bit annoying that they changed it MUN Supernerd (talk) 23:34, 6 February 2023 (UTC)
