Update for consecutive matches scored in

Messi's record stands at 21 games, the page still says 19. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.63.44.247 (talk) 10:50, 4 June 2013 (UTC)

Scored in 21 consecutive Liga matches, not 19!

Lionel Messi created a record last term by scoring in 21 consecutive league matches. This is in contrast to the corresponding number (19) reflected on the page. The no. 19 is vital, since by scoring in 19 consecutive games, Messi became the first footballer in history to score consecutively against every team in a professional league. However, he didn't stop at that. He did get injured, which ruled him out of a couple of matches after his 19th goal. But he continued the record-breaking streak by scoring in his 20th & 21st consecutive matches. The streak finally came to a halt in the match against Atlético Madrid, which Messi couldn't complete due to a recurrence of his injury. Hence, the actual record stands at 21 matches. Wikipedia is requested to make the necessary changes at the earliest. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justkartik10 (talkcontribs) 15:10, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Saison 12/13

It is missing, that Messi pleyed the first leg of the semi-final in the Champions league also beeing not fit and therefore his performance was quite poor, which led to a big discussion in Spain about his role in the club and the question, if the team depends completey on him. The second leg he stayed on the bench. 79.219.156.60 (talk) 22:50, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

pele

pele has scored more goals in a year than anyboby every (127 goals). inculed Messi. It likley it will never be beeting. (I would how many records of his he has not betting). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.98.167.114 (talk) 14:10, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Pele Only has 75 offical goals in a year the rest are scored in friendlies which are not considered for record Rajnish (talk) 06:12, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

LOL! You've got your facts totally wrong, mate. Messi indeed holds the record for the most official goals (for club & country) in a calendar year. Pelé is not even 2nd on that list! He's a DISTANT 3rd (if I'm not wrong), well behind Müller, whose record was broken by Messi in 2012. Even Guinness World Records have acknowledged & recognised this record (of 91 goals scored by Messi). That must rule out any doubts whatsoever (or so I believe). — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justkartik10 (talkcontribs) 15:19, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Many of Messi's goals on international level come from penalty. Look at the two against Paraguay: penalty. Many- actually, more often than not- come that way. Shouldn't that be referenced? I know Messi is a saint with a huge circle above his head but when many of his goals with AFA come from the penalty spot it has to be mentioned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.82.224.58 (talk) 09:13, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Messi's international goals: 27 open play, 8 penalties, 2 free kicks. Huge amount of assists should be mentioned too: 25. Kahkonen (talk) 19:58, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

Summarising content for last 2 seasons

Back to this article after a long time. Of course we can't help the current season becoming a diary of events. But at the minimum, someone has to painfully go through and summarise the 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 seasons. Sure, given the player, the stats are anything but normal. yet, we need to cut down the events — Preceding unsigned comment added by Su30 (talkcontribs) 17:53, 4 September 2013 (UTC)

Injury

Why isn't there anything about his recent injury problems under the 2013-14 season? There is a section about his injury problems in the previous season (2012-13), but why not about this season? Its the same injury that has given him problems since the end of the last season and the start of this season. His first injury this season was around when Barca played the 2013 Super Spanish Cup in September (http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2013/08/22/4204000/barcelona-suffer-messi-injury-scare?ICID=PP_8012). His second injury was in in late September 2013 (http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2013/09/29/4297564/messi-out-for-two-to-three-weeks?ICID=PP_8012). His lastest injury (third this season) will make him out of action for 8 weeks (to the end of the year) (http://www.goal.com/en/news/12/spain/2013/11/11/4400073/messi-out-for-up-to-two-months). Can someone add about it as it has effected heavily his performance/playing time this season? --SideMaster (SideMaster) 11:48, 6 November 2013 (UTC)

Lionel Messi - 4 Ballon d'Or is false

There is a false statement mentionning Lionel Messi has won 4 Ballon d'Or. He won the first 3 Ballon d'Or. The fourth one was won by Cristiano Ronaldo this year. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.103.147.1 (talk) 18:20, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

He won one Ballon d'Or in 2009 and three FIFA Ballons d'Or in 2010, 2011 and 2012. That makes four. – PeeJay 18:42, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
PeeJay is correct, also the article mentions this twice in the abstract, which is redundant. Request that someone removes one. First paragraph: "...becoming the first player to win four Ballons d'Or, all of which he won consecutively." Second paragraph: "Messi is the first football player in history to win four FIFA/Ballons d'Or, all of which he won consecutively" Darksaber14 (talk) 01:35, 17 January 2014 (UTC)darksaber14

Wrong totals for Appearances and Goals 2013-14

The total Apps for 2013-14 should be 29 and the total Goals should be 26. This is what you get when you add up all the different Apps and Goals for this season, just the wrong totals. Everything else adds up. Sw2303 (talk) 03:17, 27 February 2014 (UTC)

FC Barcelona incorrectly described as Spanish

Considering that an important trait of FC Barcelona is that it's closely tied to the Catalan culture, language and identity, I find it an inadequate and erroneous description in this article's opening line to describe it as "Spanish club FC Barcelona". FC Barcelona identity is Catalan and not Spanish. It is common practice by right wing fascists in Spain to belittle and undermine the Catalan culture, language and rich history. It is best to disassociate this article from such ideologies. It would be correct to say that its a Catalan club playing in the spanish league. See the wiki definition of FC Barcelona and notice that the club is identified as Catalan, first and foremost. Ausiass (talk) 21:23, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

I'm not going to tell you that the way the club identifies itself is irrelevant, but the fact that there is no Catalan football association (at least not one recognised by FIFA) and FC Barcelona represents Spain in international competitions means that the club should be described primarily as Spanish. – PeeJay 23:05, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Add another source to "Commonly ranked as the best player in the world and rated by some commentators, coaches and players as the greatest footballer of all time" Wayne Rooney tweets : "Messi is a joke. For me the best ever." on 2:39 AM - 8 Mar 2012 source: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2003698-wayne-rooney-rates-barcelonas-lionel-messi-above-madrids-cristiano-ronaldo 116.202.200.194 (talk) 19:21, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure how adding yet another article with a player comparing Messi favorably to Cristiano Ronaldo improves this article. There's nothing particularly groundbreaking or unique there and we already have enough sources that say the same thing. Mosmof (talk) 02:19, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
