August 2013
[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed maintenance templates from FC Barcelona. When removing maintenance templates, please be sure to either resolve the problem that the template refers to, or give a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, as your removal of this template has been reverted. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Thank you. Do not remove a citation needed tag unless you're adding a reference. You didn't do that here. Also, don't call the team "FC". That's against the manual of style. Article Feedback Tool update
[edit]Hey Justkartik10. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.
We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.
Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:38, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
Opting in to VisualEditor
[edit]As you may know, VisualEditor ("Edit beta") is currently available on the English Wikipedia only for registered editors who choose to enable it. Since you have made 50 or more edits with VisualEditor this year, I want to make sure that you know that you can enable VisualEditor (if you haven't already done so) by going to your preferences and choosing the item, "MediaWiki:Visualeditor-preference-enable
". This will give you the option of using VisualEditor on articles and userpages when you want to, and give you the opportunity to spot changes in the interface and suggest improvements. We value your feedback, whether positive or negative, about using VisualEditor, at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback. Thank you, Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 20:11, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
"are" vs "is"
[edit]I've noticed you changed "Barcelona is" to "Barcelona are" in FC Barcelona article. Are you treating the club (it) as a colective (they)? BenficaNNossaPaixao (talk) 07:39, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
Yes. Collective nouns can be used in either sense- singular or plural. In recent times, names of teams, particularly in case of big/famous clubs, have often been used to denote the entire squad, staff & sometimes even members. Hence, they're used in a plural form. You may notice that I made the change you were referring to in just one para. In the immediately preceding para, the term 'Barcelona' had already been used in a plural sense, and rightly so. In the para in respect of which I made a change, the same term had previously been used as a plural. Someone made an edit, and the term became singular. A better reading of the same para, however, suggests the plural form would be more appropriate. That explains my edit. But the name of a team could also correctly be used in a singular sense. At times, it depends on the text that follows. Thanks.
Hi there Justkartik, AL from Portugal "speaking",
my changes to this player's article where due to the following: 1 - the individual accolades do not belong in the introduction, just the team's (had he won one or several FIFA Ballon d'Or that would be a different story, but those were only minor accolades).
2 - the sections: honours or statistics may be interchangeable (i've seen articles with honours first and articles with stats first), but PERSONAL stuff and PLAYING STYLE come last, please.
Attentively, happy 2014 --AL (talk) 04:52, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
Avoid self-published and primary sources
[edit]Such is the case here. WP:SELFPUBLISH and WP:PRIMARY in case you haven't read them recently. Walter Görlitz (talk) 21:40, 15 February 2014 (UTC)
