Fansites
[edit]During my anonymous edits to the external links and adding in information about the mobile version and Bosh I added two popular line rider fansites. Could somebody please explain why this was removed? 82.36.199.21 14:58, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- It was removed because it didnt conform to WP:EL (Links to avoid, point ten) --Willem Mulder (talk) 08:31, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
External links
[edit]After adding some information regarding copycat flash games and a few external links to them, I noticed that in previous edits, one of these links (Line Flyer) had been added and then later removed. I think that the addition of context for these links make them a reasonable addition to the article now. If for no other reason, the existence of these copycat/hacked versions act as evidence of the popularity of the original. Thoughts on this? Seph Vellius 08:17, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- If any of the copycats becomes noteworthy enough to have its own article, then the external link should be added to that article. Linking to copycats here doesn't appear to fall within WP:EL. -- JHunterJ 20:24, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- Agreed. I changed my mind on the matter after the discussion below. In fact, although I continue to believe these copycats should be mentioned, anything above that, including screen captures of them, should not. --Seph Vellius 05:28, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
I added Line Rider "Die at the Slopes", by far the most popular clip, with currently 668,363 views. NauticaShades 18:13, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
- Most popular YouTube video does not meet WP:EL either, though. Reverted -- JHunterJ 13:42, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
Due to the excessive vandalism in the last few days, I only recently noticed the addition of Unofficial Community into the external links section. Has this been left in the article because it is generally accepted as meeting WP:EL, or should it be removed? If there is no opinion one way or another, I intend to remove it. --Seph Vellius 17:45, 15 November 2006 (UTC) I added a link to - a top ten linerider videos, as its a great place for people to actually see some of the best linerider videos around...so therefore relevant. It was removed. The site has no advertising and the list was compiled on the linerider.org forum, so is a useful tool for those wishing to discover and understand what linerider is. there is no copyright violation as the videos are embedded from youtube, where they were added by those who created them, and the creator is cited. I think it fits WP:EL AS I've had no response to the bit above. I'm going to add in again the link to lineriders...if you remove it please explain why. thanks
- I think it was removed because it is an opinion. There is no set scale to grade a track, it is totally a movie mods opinion. Wikipedia is factual so I guess it got deleted.
- Oh and the porn: you would have to download linerider as a flash object and there would be no need for access to the internet, meaning no ads. Linerider.org has a tutorial to do this and I'm sure IRidetheLines.com has one too. LeetaCris (talk) 15:14, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Illegal rips
[edit]Lineflyer is an illegal rip, meant to bring in money for the site owner through ads. I think they should not be linked to on principle.
- In that case, perhaps the link should be removed, but discussion and acknowledgement of its existence, and the existence of other copycats, should remain. Seph Vellius 18:59, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, I removed the direct link to LineFlyer and added a note about the legality of the copycat versions.
- It seems someone (the owner of LineFlyer?) keeps reverting the page, removing the note about questionable legality and restoring the link to lineflyer.com.
- I believe the wikibot, while correcting some obvious vandalism, reverted the article to a point prior to the addition of the legality comment. I don't believe anyone has intentionally harmed this article beyond that obvious vandalism case. Seph Vellius 08:02, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

- Ok, I removed the direct link to LineFlyer and added a note about the legality of the copycat versions.
Perhaps the illegal rips, particularly LineFlyer, are getting a little too much attention in this article compaired to the original game? I don't think a normal game like, say Mario, would have image examples of its flash copies in its article. --Seph Vellius 05:55, 27 October 2006 (UTC) Another copycat is linerider.com while it isn't a rip it does host a copy unoffically with out the original authors permission Atomic1fire 00:32, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Linerider.com now is the official Linerider site. 85.145.244.93 (talk) 17:31, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
I think you're right to say that Mario games wouldn't have links to the flash clones. The clones probably wouldn't even be mentioned. kevipapo.
Man or Penguin?
[edit]I noticed that the game description changed the protagonist from "man" to "penguin." Since the original creator hasn't specifically noted whether the geometrcally simple character is a penguin or not I substituted "penguin" for the more universal description "character." That way the article is correct regardless of what the creator intends the figure to be. Seph Vellius 06:05, 22 October 2006 (UTC) I can't be 100% I think he is supposed to be a man. The proportions are wrong for a penguin with his long arms and legs. I can't remember Jonathan calling him "a penguin" or "the penguin" in all the time we discussed the game on irc. "Character" sounds nicer than "man" or "guy" anyway... Jheriko 12:22, 23 October 2006 (UTC) The mascot design states that he's a human. End of story. 204.11.190.32 (talk) 16:14, 7 January 2008 (UTC) Its is a man because I play the newest version of line rider. And when I last played, I used the super zoom, and I don't remember penguins having fingers.
Fansites
[edit]I would like to add a link to a fansite (the only one I believe) for Line Rider and have already, but it has been taken down. The site is free and does not receive revenue from ads so by putting the link there I do not consider it advertising. I know that fansites in general are looked down upon, but when there is no harm to come from putting the link up I don't see why this is unacceptable. LineRiders 19:58, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
- The WP:EL guidelines are against adding that one three ways: links to sites you own, links intended to promote a site, and fanlists. One downside is that the next editor with a fansite will feel justified in adding his or hers as well, as will the next, and so on. On the other hand, if there are many fansites, the guidelines do allow for listing one, the most popular, but that condition does not appear to be met yet. -- JHunterJ 12:16, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
The most popular fansite by far is www.linerider.org, I think www.linerider.de is another. But if you look you will see that linerider.org gets by far the most traffic. Is it now suitable for the external link to be added? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.34.81.175 (talk • contribs) 14:58, 12 November 2006 (UTC).

Okay guys, there are very many fansites for linerider. Linerider.org is obviously the biggest (also the first) with over 50,000 users. I'm pretty sure techdawg's IridetheLines.com is next, and then probably Linerider.com. By far though, .org is the winnar. LeetaCris (talk) 15:18, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

The New Version
[edit]Although obviously "anticipated", are the features listed for the next game based on any particular evidence, or just random speculation? --Rai 23:34, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Most of the anticipated features come from a list provided by Line Rider's creator, Boštjan Čadež, on DeviantART [1]. The addition of future hack prevention is based on his comments explaining the delay of the new release. --Seph Vellius 04:12, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
There is some kind of new evrsion on linerider.org when you click play, click the bit where it says "do you want to play the new version?" The new features are: Some pencil thing which I don't know what it does; An acceleration line; An eraser; A flag marker; A zoom-in/out feature. Yes, fsk has made comments about planning to add desired features such as erasers and other tools. Also, on virtually every discussion about linerider updates, those things are ones that are wanted (I don't know how to cite that though). Also, the new pencil in Line Rider Zada is the scenery pencil. It allows things to be drawn without them affecting the character. Tere is also a line snap feature and a straight line feature. -da newb

Glitch Section?
[edit]I'm a new user, and would like to check if it would be okay to add a section about a glitch I found with the physics engine and so that other users may place information pertaining to other glitches that may benefit people reading this article. Copied from linerider.ca
[edit]The "update" from linerider.org is almost an exact copy of an earlier update from linerider.ca. Should we link to linerider.ca instead?
New update?
[edit]On his journal, *fsk (Boštjan Čadež) has said that the new "update" is NOT an actual update, but another clone made without his permission. Should we re-word the section? Perhaps remove it all together? It sounds like someone from linerider.org hyping his site. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 199.237.164.90 (talk) 22:35, 7 December 2006 (UTC).
- I think that we shouldn't confuse the official update with ZaDa. For example, we don't know that the acceleration lines wil be red in the official version.
Or even if there will be acceleration lines. - da newb
How to draw a straight line
[edit]Hi, I'm new to this discussion. I'd like to point out that there's another way to draw a straight line (It's for the application version of Line Rider Only, though. It's the one where you download on Boštjan Čadež Deviant Art page.

Line Rider is a penguin
[edit]Please stop changing penguin on a sled to man on a sled . This has already been discussed above and it was determined that the character is an abstractly represented penguin. I don't want to start an edit war, but man is incorrect. Hangfromthefloor 02:48, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Platform
[edit]I don't think the "Platform" field in the infobox is entirely correct. There are two options as I see it:
- Linux is added (there is native Flash support for Linux, so if Mac and Windows is there, so should Linux)
- Mac and Windows is substituted with "Flash" (I guess you can call Flash a platform?)

Revision 6.1/6.2?
[edit]I cannot find revision 6.2, currently on the official linerider site, the latest version is, version 2 - revision 6.1. Please either provide me with instructions on how to access this version, otherwise it will be changed. Hpfan9374 08:32, 10 May 2007 (UTC) I have now changed the information in the inbox of this article, in the latest version, section to Version 2 - Revision 6.1 and NOT Revision 6.2. game or toy
[edit]its a game in the sense that there is some level of instruction as to how to play with it and there is some level of competition in building tracks (but the track videos are created with external software and somewhat difficult file finding for track distrubition which isnt directly a feature yet)but its more toy like in the sense that there are no true levels and the only objective is simple to draw lines Atomic1fire 03:42, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit]My entire secton was deleted. There may have been a good reason- but none was given by the nameless I.P. adress 71.185.192.91. Bosh
[edit]The article claims "Bosh" has something to do with the German word for aerodynamic. Well I'm German, but I can't think of a word that would fit that description. Unless more substantial evidence is presented, I vote for deleting that phrase.
Now, has anyone considered that "Bosh" might be just an abbreviation of Boštjan - keeping in mind that an "š" is usually pronounced like the english "sh" ??? --BjKa (talk) 13:15, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
- It is incorrect. There is no german word called "bosh" that means aerodynamic. (I speak german as my first language). Pseudoserpent (talk) 23:56, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
Toy
[edit]The creator refers to the game as a 'toy', not a game as there is no objective. I think this should be included in the article, and the use of the word 'game' should be reduced. Tkgd2007 (talk) 08:16, 8 February 2008 (UTC) No it shouldn't because, there kind of is a point. And that's to have fun. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.78.116.10 (talk) 16:41, 11 September 2008 (UTC)
Tricks/Glitches
[edit]When it says "loops and other tricks" I find myself cringing - if anyone has ever really gotten into Line Rider they know that there is a lot more possible than first meets the eye. Notable and widely used tricks are nose/tail manuals (balancing Bosh on the front or back end of the sled with acceleration lines) and gravity wells, which occur from a glitch in drawing a line facing away from Bosh as he reverses to move away from the direction of the line (it does take quite a bit of practice) I'm not sure what should go in or not, but I think something should be said about the amazing things people have been able to do with the game. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.83.36.84 (talk) 23:03, 22 April 2008 (UTC) Yea there are countless numbers of flings, and stalls too. It wouldn't be possible to go into detail of every type of stall, but the most noteworthy tricks that should be in the article: Manuals (Including Tailies and Nosies), Gravity Wells (or GW), Flings (more specifically the spider fling), and stalls with maybe a picture of one of the common stalls. When I get home today I may add in a few. LeetaCris (talk) 15:25, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
Here's a couple sources for some stuff in IRidetheLines's NuWiki: http://www.iridethelines.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5195 http://www.iridethelines.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18592 otherwise, I guess I'm just getting this from my own knowledge, but someone should add this stuff. I don't want to get it deleted, so I'll type it here and someone can follow all the rules and standards and put it in the article. Or somebody could tell me what can be included and what can't, and how I should add this stuff in. Oh, note that I'm only talking about the Beta 2 Flash version of Line Rider, not Silverlight or Unbound. most notable tricks are probably: - manuals (nose/tail/head) the best nose manual tutorial around: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InmRD7F_rgI - gravity wells (here's a basic tutorial: http://iridethelines.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2770), many different kinds affect him in different ways (flings aren't on there but are important - they're a series of gravity wells that affect him in similar ways and make for a chain reaction "flinging" affect) these were "invented" or rather, first discovered and utilized by anomaly76 in the movie Gravity Wells: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cngexcPxgjU - anti-gravity wells - two lines close together forming a very sharp angle, blue sides facing out, that creates a small "invisible" line just in front of the tip of the point. Here's a tutorial: http://www.iridethelines.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4260 (ollies/floats fall into this category, they're just creative uses of them brilliantly developed by TheConundrumer in the movie Omniverse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRFnyObbcng) - and maybe "stalls" in general (as a way of suspending the rider and having him do creative things such as bounce, vibrate, or even "treadmill" in strange positions) (I don't think the rest of the tricks are important - there are tons but these are the only really widespread ones.) As for glitches in the game... - the live draw glitch (holding control when you hit play will enable your last tool WHILE the track runs, enabling you to do things like draw track as the game plays) - the ghost rider glitch (holding C while creating a flag will instead create a "ghost image" of the dude) - Play in Edit Mode glitch (load a track, and immediately after you press "load" hit Y, and then once it finishes loading, you can hit play and the track runs but seemingly in edit mode, with all the blue, red, and green colors. This glitch is used quite often in videos, sometimes as a backdrop for credits.) Also, some styles of track could be included: - "quirky" tracks usually have lots of gravity wells and manuals, often are "all blue" (no acceleration lines) and have lots of small lines and sudden direction changes. Typically lack scenery, though there are some "scened quirks." This genre was invented/started by anomaly76: http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=anomaly76 -=-=- A subdivision of "quirky" is "alt" quirk or "quark" - this sub-genre uses minimal flings, manuals, and curves and tries to generate an "awkward" feel with unusual uses of small numbers of lines. "Invented" by joonas and Conundrumer in the movie Strange Quark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5eE1ZUnkzs - XY tracks are made with only horizontal and vertical lines. They are typically quirky style, and they were "invented" by Ram Tzu: http://www.youtube.com/user/Samadhi001 - "manual" tracks are typically at lest 90% nose or tail manuals, not counting gravity wells and/or flings. (is this needed?) - "scenery" tracks use lots of green lines to create a picture or a little world for the guy to go through (is this needed?) I believe these are the most important things. I do hope I didn't waste an hour typing this up and that these can actually be put in this article :P —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.13.29.244 (talk) 04:32, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

- Well it seems to be there now, and I added a couple more to it —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.24.112.220 (talk) 17:39, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
McDonalds?
[edit]I just saw the commercial for McDonalds and Line Rider... what is that about?--I am a Wikipedian (talk) 16:48, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- About the new release of Line rider 2: Unbound. It is for PC, Wii and DS. Pseudoserpent (talk) 23:57, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
- No, it's actually just a promotion for Mcdonalds. It's not involved with the new game.24.164.126.80 (talk) 11:44, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Technology
[edit]I do not understand why people keep changing this to say that Line Rider is a Flash game. Beta versions were in Flash (and the Beta 2 is still accessible) but the current release 7.0 (which is not marked as beta anywhere) is based on Silverlight. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.199.128.156 (talk) 09:28, 22 July 2008 (UTC) Its not a flash game, anyone who says it is has never seen the site. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.78.116.10 (talk) 16:39, 11 September 2008 (UTC) Beta 1 and Beta 2 were both made in flash, and Line Rider Silverlight is largely unpopular with the more "hardcore" line rider fans. Besides Line Rider 2: Unbound, I would say Line Rider is still considered a flash game by many. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.83.44.240 (talk) 04:38, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
Line Rider 2: Unbound
[edit]I think this part of the article should be made into a brand-new article. It should be in a seperate article because it should be treated like any other video game- having its own article. Except... I don't know how to add the tag to represent that there has been a request to split a part of the article off. Help please, fellow Wikipedians! NintendoNerd777 (talk) 02:22, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. Also needs comfirmation of release date, 8th or 12th? Jeff24 (talk) 20:34, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- No argument. A seperate article would be appreciated. And it's the 16th, as Gamestop mentioned. 71.74.155.155 (talk) 20:44, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'll add the "Split section" template. --Willem Mulder (talk) 08:46, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
- I have Line Rider 2 unbound it has enough features to be it's own article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ripperroo123 (talk • contribs) 13:29, 26 September 2008 (UTC)
- I agree! A seperate article would be great! --71.225.111.4 (talk) 22:21, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. Should be treated like it's own game (because it is) Pseudoserpent (talk) 07:05, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

I agree that this game should have its own article, but we need more information. If it was put into its own article now, then it would just be labeled a stub. GTAKIllerEric (talk) 12:15, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
I think it should have its own article because it has enough features just like this person said
it has surely enough functions for this to have its own article....
oh it does need more information... well i have an idea. we can make a sub page to this page and it is called line rider 2 unbound
it would look something like this
Line_Rider/Line_Rider_2_Unbound
Coaster3000 (talk) 17:23, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
i agree with coaster on this one it needs to be bigger to be a whole new article in about a month or so theres alot that caould be added about the game first —Preceding unsigned comment added by Diesal 11 (talk • contribs) 03:53, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
iPhone version
[edit]nXile Entertainment has announced the forthcoming release of Line Rider for the iPhone and iPod touch. It’s an adaptation of the popular game available for online play, and it will cost $2.99. http://www.macworld.com/article/135314/2008/09/linerider.html?lsrc=rss_main —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.212.2.86 (talk) 15:22, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Revision 7???
[edit]Well i see in the info box that the current version is 7. Souldnt this be silverlight or 6.2? And i wonder if it should be Silverlight, as it is not commonly recognized as the successor of beta 2 rev 6.2 -- Willem Mulder (talk) 10:40, 25 September 2008 (UTC)
Wii version
[edit]is their an article for the wii game? If not someon should create it —Preceding unsigned comment added by 168.169.82.217 (talk) 14:55, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- ^Its a few lines up there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pseudoserpent (talk • contribs) 23:58, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
As with most games, there should just be one article for the game that covers all of the platforms it is on. This means that the article would include the DS, Wii, and PC versions of the game. GTAKIllerEric (talk) 12:16, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
