Comparison image

[edit]

If any of my image uploade experts can help, it'd be much appreciated: With so much of the article focusing on the differences in Lin between her Japanese and English releases, it'd be awesome if we had an image to illustrate that. Examples have been featured in many of the sources I used to write the article, so they're definitely out there, its just a matter if someone can reconcile such an image with Wikipedia's image policy. Merge

[edit]

This article reads like a "coatrack" article right now—its main sources are reviews of the game and sources about the game's Western "censorship", which are here employed to write an article about the character that is very little about the actual character. These are all things that should be covered in the main article, and if they were, an article on Lin Lee would be a duplicative fork. As it stands, the content is more about a cultural argument in localization than it is anything about the character or her individual reception. At least as it is written, there is little to show how the character is independently notable from the game, especially if it's only on the basis of the localization issues, which are part of the game and not the character. I am no longer watching this page—ping if you'd like a response czar 16:09, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's the exact opposite of that. It's a fictional character article that focuses very little on in-universe story details, and strongly on encyclopedic, out-of-universe commentary from third party sources, of which wrote dedicated articles about her. The article is focused on her, and changes made to her appearance and character. There are other instances to changes between versions of the game, and that's the sort of thing that belongs in the game article. (They altered location names, limited some of the options related to character creation, etc) Once again, you're setting the bar far, far too high for fiction character articles. Move to Lin Lee Koo

[edit]

The character is never referred to as "Lin Lee" in-game (well, except for the mascot character nicknaming her "Linly"): she presents herself as Lin Lee Koo and is referred to as Lin by every character. --DonnaclusX (talk) 13:08, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I chose the current name because I didn't feel like her full name, Lin Lee Koo, was the WP:COMMONNAME, Lin is already taken, and Lin (Xenoblade Chronicles X character) or Lin (character) fails WP:PRECISION - we try to avoid disambiguation when possible. The current name didn't really violate either. I'm open for more discussion on this though. Sergecross73 msg me 18:18, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How come Lin Lee is the only Xenoblade Chronicles X character got a page while the Avatar nor Elma hasn't?

[edit]

Wait, how come Lin Lee is the only available character from Xenoblade Chronicles X that got a Wikipedia page while we don't have one for the Avatar nor Elma yet since they're the two main protagonists in the game and Lin Lee is one of the first main story characters gets recruited automatically from Chapter 3 plot, I mean that we do have Shulk has a page in Wikipedia and he's the main protagonist in his game, but we don't have any pages for one for his friends in Xenoblade Chronicles created yet?DigiPen92 (talk) 05:33, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@DigiPen92: Because an editor was interested in creating one for Lin Lee and looked up reliable sources about her. If there are reliable sources about other characters (this is needed to establish notability), articles can be written about them as well.--IDVtalk 13:02, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I chose to make Shulk and Lin Lee because I could make an article for them that met the WP:GNG - basically, that there were third party sources (like IGN or Eurogamer) that wrote entire articles about the characters. Shulk received a lot of coverage due to being a comparatively less popular character than most for Smash Bros, and Lin Lee received a lot of coverage due to the the regional changes to her appearance, and her voice actor being outspoken about it. I'd love to make an article for Fiora or Elma or anyone else, but I've checked, and journalists just didn't write about them. I would not recommend writing articles for any other Xenoblade cast - it'd be very likely to be redirected or deleted. Sergecross73 msg me 16:44, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
