She has said something about being offended by the show, as an Italian-American. Maybe it's worth mentioning in the controversy section, I dunno, whatev. Belasted (talk) 05:57, 12 December 2009 (UTC)

Swap Cast and Advertisers Responses
The Cast Response section makes reference to the Advertisers response section in a way that leaves somebody reading from the top down kinda of clueless as to what is being talked about. "When Polizzi was asked about the advertisers pulling their ads..." Yet its not until the next section that a reader even knows that advertisers pulled their ads. 97.103.33.120 (talk) 09:57, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
Season 2?
There's been a lot of talk about a second season happening elsewhere in New Jersey and recently of the cast wanting more money per episode. Is it worth putting on the page yet? And if there is a second season should there be a Jersey Shore page and then a seperate page for each season (like there is for other VH1 and MTV reality shows)?
Allwham (talk) 01:01, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think it would be safe to mention a probable second season, but I would hold off on adding any further information including the cast wanting more money, since there is nothing official from MTV yet or the cast, and that would fall into the rumor category (The money part). Although Snooki has claimed there will be a second season, but it is not known if the original cast is coming back or not. ([1]) I think the news stories about it possibly taking place in Sea Isle City ([2], [3], [4], [5]) would be worth mentioning though, since the town put out a press release denying the rumors. The mayor even said it was the first time he has had to put out a press release to deny rumors. (Although this might also fit into the residents response section??) Basically, we should just take precautions with new season information. I would also hold off on creating separate season pages until we get some firm information. I'm not sure they are even actually needed. Maybe a separate episodes list page would serve the article more appropriately? I guess we will just have to play it by ear and see how this evolves. suggested changes
I thought it might be good to change this:
Premise
The show examines the lives of eight young castmembers living and vacationing on the various resorts along the Jersey Shore, more specifically the town of Seaside Heights. In exchange for living and partying in the shore house, each member of the cast is required to work shifts at a local boardwalk t-shirt store. Failure to comply with the ground rules set by their boss, who owns the shore house in which the cast resides, results in termination and eviction from the shore house.[4]
to this:
Premise and Setting
The show examines the lives of eight young castmembers living and vacationing on the various resorts along the Jersey Shore, more specifically the town of Seaside Heights. The town is a popular summer destination for young adults. The town is small, less than a square mile in total area, but has more than a mile of commercial boardwalk that is bordered by a wide Atlantic Ocean beach. The boardwalk has a lot of different attractions including amusement rides, a water park, arcades, games of chance and eateries. The summer crowds can be large and the town attracts a blue collar, but diverse, crowd. There are also numerous bars and lots of hotels. Weekend and summer days for many young adults consists of sleeping in until late morning, relaxing on the beach all afternoon and long late-nights spent enjoying the boardwalk and barhopping. In exchange for living and partying in the shore house, each member of the cast is required to work shifts at a local boardwalk t-shirt store. Failure to comply with the ground rules set by their boss, who owns the shore house in which the cast resides, results in termination and eviction from the shore house.[4]
Also....Information about what Seaside Heights is like in real life (which is where I found some of the facts for my addition at) can be found at: http://www.discoverseasideheights.com/ and http://www.seasideheightstourism.com/ I would cite those websites as sources somewhere in the text I am proposing to add, provided it is not a pain to add a new bracketed number to this section without having to renumber everything else. I'm new at editing things here so I am not so sure how the referencing citations work.

Maybe MTV's summary from there website should be used in part. There summary is this.
"MTV has focused its lens on various subcultures and rites of passage, uncovering a host of memorable characters in the process. With its newest series, Jersey Shore, MTV peels back yet a different curtain to follow eight young adults as they move into a summer share to indulge in everything Seaside Heights, New Jersey, one of the most popular summer hot spots, has to offer. Jersey Shore uncovers sometimes surprising, often hilarious and usually over-the-top personalities as they juggle work, love, nightlife, friendship and the drama that ensues. In the end, viewers see that there is more to these tan and buff individuals than hair gel."
http://www.mtv.com/shows/jersey_shore/series.jhtml#moreinfo
It seems to be more true to what the show is talking about personalities, tans, and hair gel. Cause that is what the show is. Allwham (talk) 17:05, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Stereotyping accusations
The title of this section seems to imply that there wasn't a utilization of a stereotype in promoting this show. Accusation means that a claim wasn't proven- as if MTV released an internal memo calling Italians Guidos, which in turn was leaked to the public by an anonymous source. Since the company's use of the word is well documented via televised and printed ads, and the Italian American community rallied against the use of it, I think it best to change the the title to Italian Stereotypes. MTV's methods were proven and public- so labeling these actions wouldn't be best described as an accusation.
We seem to be agreed that the show does portray Italians in a specific manner. If there isn't any objection to this in the next day or so, I'll change the title of the section. I am also open to new ideas for a title. --Thegz1 (talk) 21:32, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Italian-American's should not really be worried at this point in time. The Jersey Shore characters are really "making" or portraying other, more recent ethnic groups, in particular Indian-Americans. Snooki
I'd like your opinions on this; Snooki's own Wikipedia article. In my opinion, Snooks is growing into a public figure and there might be need to create her own article, so that Wikipedia can provide the necessary information to fans. Don't complain about how horrible she is in your view; we have pages for Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, too. It's just because they're famous. Any comments, or should we proceed into creating the page? --Olijven (talk) 22:01, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
- I think the immediate question is if she is notable for something beyond this show? Heidi and Spencer have appeared on multiple shows, and hence go beyond WP:ONEEVENT. Just my thoughts on the matter. Is there something that would be included in her article that is not already in this article? Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 00:08, 22 February 2010

The Situation
I feel like Snooki being the only cast member to have her own page is sort of unfair. Surely Mike was another break away star of that show, that caused ripples through out the culture. A section on the seasons of the show should be included, like seen on other tv series' wiki pages, because of the confirmation of a second series by MTV.
The second season was announced by MTV and they confirmed that the entire team from season one would be returning. Filming for the first half of the second season will begin in Miami and then move back to Jersey for the completion of the season. In the lead up to the season premiere The Situation said “Everywhere I go, there's just mass amounts of people. There's people showing up at airports, wanting autographs, girls, it's insane. It's like The Beatles, man.”

Also, I know a cousin of Mike's.
Introduction needs small clarification
I would change "then the cast relocated back to The Shore for the rest of filming" to "then the cast relocated back to the Jersey Shore for the rest of filming" if I could edit the page. "The Shore" in capital letters make sense to people from New Jersey like me but to the rest of the English-speaking world, the phrase is vague and should be clarified, regardless of the title of the show. Even though it is called Jersey Shore, season 2 takes place partially in Miami so "The Shore" is not clear. --Rotellam1 (talk) 22:50, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

Why is she listed among the cast? She's not a cast member in either season. Even in the description it states she was rejected before Season 1. Dubious.....Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi listed as an Italian Chilean
In the Wikipedia article the definition of Italian Chilean is specifically "Chileans of full or predominately Italian descent."
In the Nicole Polizzi Wikipedia article the source used to "prove" she's Italian Chilean is a second hand account of an interview Joy Behar had with the Jersey Shore cast members http://www.ivillage.com/joy-behar-jersey-shore-cast-view/1-a-118100#ixzz134SxcSIk and I'm not even sure it qualifies as a reliable source. Within that account the statement is made quote, Turns out Snooki is "more of a Chilean" and a little bit Sicilian -- "but not that much", unquote. It's not even clear who has made the comments in quotations.
There are also no reliable sources I could find online which stated Snooki had any Italian (or Sicilian) heritage. Reliable sources simply state she was born in Chile and was adopted by an Italian American family.
And to clarify, I'm not arguing that Sicilians should not be included as Italians...my argument is that "a little bit Sicilian but not that much" is nowhere near close enough to "predominately" for her to be included as an Italian Chilean. There is also no actual reliable source that she has any Italian or Sicilian blood whatsoever.
I have also brought this up for discussion on the Nicole Polizzi Wikipedia page.Slinkybinky (talk) 10:15, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
- NEW INFO UPDATE...I found the video of the Snooki exchange with Joy Behar on a BET blog http://blogs.bet.com/entertainment/staytuned/jersey-shore-meets-the-view/ It can also be found on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yw4NPAM4iNQ
This is the dialogue, in part:
Joy Behar: I'd like to point out that Snooki is not Italian
Sherri Shepherd: What are you?
Elisabeth Hasselbeck: Are you part Italian?
Snooki: Sicilian but more of a Chilean.
Joy Behar: Oh you are part Sicilian? Well that would make you Italian.
Snooki: But not that much
Joy Behar: Not that much?
Snooki: I'm more of a Chilean
Because of Snooki self-describing herself basically as just a little bit Italian, I don't think she should be listed as Italian Chilean since that describes someone who is full or mostly Italian. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Slinkybinky (talk • contribs) 18:27, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

Season 3
Are the episodes that are airing Season 3? Because some parts of this article mentions it as the second half of Season Two while some parts says it's Season 3. AhnSoonKyung (talk) 20:42, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
- It is widely reported and considered as season 3, but I think that MTV regards it as season 2b internally. Probably has to do with the casts contracts. If I recall, the original plan was to film in Miami and return to Jersey Shore, combining the footage for a season 2. (Presumably to air in two parts?) But after filming in Miami, producers realized they had more than enough material to fill a whole season worth of episodes. Don't quote me on that though. :p I know there were reportedly new contract negotiations right before filming started at the Jersey Shore though. My guess is that they amended the existing contracts to include a raise. Just a guess, I could be way off. Greekboy (talk) 21:27, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
- I just noticed that the confusion you are referring to was caused by a user who made changes to the article concerning the seasons, without a proper consensus. I have reverted the changes until a consensus can be reached on it. Greekboy (talk) 23:52, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Helpfulness
As someone who knew nothing about Jersey Shore, other than it's a show that people in the US watch, this article was completely and utterly uninformative. Or rather, the article told me that people/actors have come and gone and that filming schedules would be involved, but it didn't tell me anything about the *actual show*.
I understand (but may be wrong) that this is a reality show about guidos from Jersey, e.g. italianate American teenagers or 20-somethings who use often comedically excessive amounts of fake tan and hair gel. If my understanding is anywhere near accurate, then I would suggest that the article should be corrected to assist other people new to this phenomenon. Skington (talk) 02:51, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
- Although the article could use some clean-up and rewording, the premise is pretty much summarized by part of the first sentence: Jersey Shore is a reality television series on MTV that follows eight housemates spending their summers together.... You can't really summarize a reality show, although there are episode summaries on the episode page. You pretty much hit the nail on its head. Its about a couple of 20 something year-olds partying. Its controversies are also mentioned. I may try to clean up the article a bit. Greekboy (talk) 04:34, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

However, when you click on that link the article mentions nothing about Snooki having any Italian blood. In fact there are no reliable sources anywhere online that do. There are some blogs, mirror sites, and second hand reports where it's stated that she has some Italian or a little Sicilian but nothing verifiable as legit. What reliable sources show, if you do an online search, is simply that she is Chilean, born in Chile, then adopted by an Italian American family.Slinkybinky (talk) 10:32, 22 October 2010 (UTC)
Castmates
CastMTV confirmed on August 6, 2010, that Deena Nicole Cortese has been added to the cast for season 3. Cortese is a longtime friend of Polizzi.[27] On August 27, 2010, Pivarnick confirmed that she would not be part of season 3.[28] The rest of the cast have appeared in all seasons.

In the "Production History" section of the article, the names of all the cast are written down with their full names and nicknames. In season three, Jenni, uses Vinny's real name while bowling which is Vincenzo. The article just reflects Vinny's nickname.
"The series debut with the premise of following the lives of eight housemates spending their summer in a summer share in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. Season 1 followed cast members Angelina Pivarnick, Jenni "JWoww" Farley, Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, Paul "Pauly D" DelVecchio, Ronnie Ortiz-Magro, Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola, and VINCENZO "Vinny" Guadagnino at the Jersey Shore. Season 2 followed the cast escaping the cold northeast winter to Miami Beach, Florida. Season 3 saw the cast going back to the Jersey Shore for the summer, with Deena Nicole Cortese replacing Angelina. MTV confirmed that season 4 will see the cast heading to Italy."

WP:SYN for Psychological effect?
In this edit, User:Hexagon70 removed the "Psychological effect" section citing WP:SYN. One of the references cited, MSNBC reads:
It's called media priming -- the idea that the things we watch or listen to or read influence our emotions and our behavior, perhaps more than we realize. This particular study may be the first to use fictional characters in a narrative to show an effect on people's cognitive performance, says lead author Markus Appel, a psychologist at Austria's University of Linz.
The sentence in the wiki article reads: "A 2011 study published in Media Psychology of 81 volunteers conducted at the University of Linz found that shows such as the Jersey Shore reduced cognitive performance through media priming." How is this SYN?Smallman12q (talk) 15:27, 3 July 2011 (UTC)
- The study wasn't about Jersey Shore. The only mention of the show was in the article, and it was only referenced as a glib example. By itself, that's not a reliable source. Hexagon70 (talk) 04:48, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

The Jersey Shore TV Series page lists Charlie Mader and Scott Durham as creators of the series. This is false information. These people have no association with the show. If you watch (Thursdays at 10p on MTV) you will see that not only is there is no "created by" credit, but these two names don't appear anywhere in the credit role. That should be sufficient verification. If needed, I can provide more. Please remove these two names from the page.

Just wondering
It might be correct, but as italian it doesn't sound so to me, and I believe to any italian speaker reading the page... I was wondering why you wrote "Sicialian american" on the ethnicity section for Vinny Guadagnino. Sicily is a region inside Italy, like Lazio or Campania, so if you wrote italian american for everyone else and sicilian american just for him, it sounds like if you wrote "italian rhode islander" for Paul del Vecchio. Unless he himself boasted about his sicilian descent. All I am trying to say is that it sounds weird and not much correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.48.214.105 (talk) 12:56, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Dutch and Belgian versions
Hi,
For the section about different versions of the show. There is a show from the Netherlands called "Oh Oh Cherso" which is based on the same concept. A Belgian adaption is also being produced, called "Oh Oh Limburg".
Cherso has been mentioned here (unsourced though) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hersonissos#Popular_culture — Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.122.104.101 (talk) 15:48, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
"Seinfeld of the 90s"
The article states in its introduction "much like Seinfeld was in the 1990's, it has even been dubbed the Seinfeld of the 2010's" while giving these links as sources: [18][19] The articles, however, don't even make such comparison; they don't even namedrop Seinfeld. Edit request from , 11 October 2011
{{edit semi-protected}} As per above, I mentioned some days ago how the following statement appears on the second paragraph of the introduction:
"The series' cast has also been credited with introducing unique lexicon and phrases into American popular culture, much like Seinfeld was in the 1990's, it has even been dubbed the Seinfeld of the 2010's, and the University of Chicago has announced an academic conference that will examine the show."
The sources provided [20][21], however, don't seem to make any mention of Seinfeld or any comparison of this kind, which to me seems as a blatant violation of WP:OR, the rest of the fragment seems to correspond with what the sources provide though. Since it doesn't seem as a controversial change (requesting the removal of unsourced/possible OR info) and no one seemed to object this, I decided to be bold and request this edit, so it would become something like:
"The series' cast has also been credited with introducing unique lexicon and phrases into American popular culture and the University of Chicago has announced an academic conference that will examine the show."

I just created Vinny Guadagnino's Wikipedia page. I am trying to figure out the editing process, but would like to link Vinny's newly created personal page to the places where his name is on the "Jersey Shore" page. Specifically, at the top right where all the show info is, and also near the middle of the page where all the cast members are listed. Thank you.Abalian (talk) 23:50, 16 November 2011 (UTC)

- Ahhh, as I was typing my Done response, you were typing yours. I think the Vinny article, if it gets some sources as you mentioned, and conformed better to the Wikipedia:Manual of Style with regards to headings, will survive. Vinny does not have a notability issue, the other Jersey Shore castmates have had articles that survived the deletion process. I just added two wikilinks to the article, if you feel very strongly that the article won't survive, then I can remove them, but I didn't see the harm in having Vinny be treated the same way his castmates are on Wikipedia --Ella Plantagenet (talk) 00:47, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Vinny Guadagnino
Okay, everyone: We are currently at that stage. What do we do about Vinny Guadagnino? Many recent interviews, post-season 5 the cast mention how him leaving has affected them - however, do we know if it's a permanent leave like Angelina? or has he done a Sammy?
Whatever the case, something needs to be done; we can't just keep him up there ~ when his actually left; but we can't just say season 1-5 if he returns. Do we wait a little while longer? -- MST☆R (Chat Me!) 05:33, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

Genre change suggestion - conflict with the philosophical concept of reality
This edit request to Jersey Shore (TV series) has been answered. Set the |answered= or |ans= parameter to no to reactivate your request. |
The genre for this TV series has been updated as "Reality". This is a "Reality Television" series, I suggest this change be made because it is important that there is no conflict with the philosophical context/meaning of "Reality". There is a huge difference between "Reality Television" and "Reality".
Therefore, I suggest that "Reality" be changed to "Reality Television".
Spinozist23 (talk) 19:24, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
- Not done: "Reality" as a genre for a TV show is fairly unambiguously referring to reality television. Moreover, the link in the infobox is to reality television. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 18:57, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
