WikiProject COVID-19

Equestrian sports
[edit]In USA Wellington, Florida the last weeks of the WEF (Winter Equestrian Festival) was cancelled. Anybody who wants to add that to the article? https://pbiec.coth.com/article/final-two-weeks-of-winter-equestrian-festival-and-adequan-global-dressage-festival-canceled
Further: In this article there is only horse racing meantioned. To include other horse sports, I would suggest to call the headline "Equestrian sports".

Monster Jam World Finals cancellation
[edit]Since the Monster Jam World Finals article details all World Finals throughout the years, would it be better to create a redirect that goes to the specific section and then give that redirect the coronavirus categories (that are currently on the main article page- being Events cancelled due to the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic, Category:Impact of the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic on sports, and Category:Sports events cancelled due to the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic)? Impact of the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic on games and sports → Impact of the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic on sports – It was moved recently without discussion based on wrong argument (chess is a sport!). 94.178.234.44 (talk) 10:25, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 13:19, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- @L293D and 94.178.234.44: queried move request Anthony Appleyard (talk) 13:21, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- As far as I see, the dictionary and wikipedia don't say that chess is a sport. I suggest you open a discussion with Koavf, who made the move. L293D (☎ • ✎) 12:08, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- First of all, the article was moved recently without discussion, so restore it back (technical request) before the start of a new one. Also, chess is located in Category:Individual sports many years. Notify chess wikiproject also please. 94.178.234.44 (talk) 13:29, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Strong support to move back to the original title. ApprenticeFan work 15:00, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Revert undiscussed move. Let Koavf request this move to his preferred title, not the other way around. Axem Titanium (talk) 19:40, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- Support move back to original title. I feel I'm involved here, so support move back. L293D (☎ • ✎) 01:02, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- Strong support - The article title was moved without discussion. Hansen SebastianTalk 02:00, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- Support The mover had their thoughts in the right place, but the shorter title is more concise and understood than games (and eventually that'll need its own article anyways as board game tourneys start to get delayed). Nate • (chatter) 06:04, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- Strong support Let's quickly move this back. The proper discussion must take place. boldblazer (talk) 00:35, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

Fork?
[edit]This article is getting long. Any ideas for forking out select content? ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:57, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
- Just pick out the three or four biggest sections (as a starting point) and create sub-pages. Maybe motor sport would be the first one to be split. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 16:15, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe move the section about professional wrestling to Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the performing arts? - FakirNL (talk) 08:36, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
American "Canceled" vs Other Countries' "Cancelled"
[edit]I've made some edits to the article upon finding out that Americans prefer "canceled" over the other guys' "cancelled." Should "canceled" be limited to American events while other countries' events have "cancelled" preserved? Call me when you get the chance 19:41, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
Professional Wrestling ????
[edit]Where is the Professional Wrestling column ? Did someone remove it TheProWrestlingFanatic (talk) 16:53, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- It's in the combat sports section. I have also corrected your spelling. Nate • (chatter) 17:23, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe move the section about professional wrestling to Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the performing arts though? - FakirNL (talk) 05:25, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
- It's sports entertainment; if you'd really like to take this up with WP:PW...I'm going to say please don't, for the sake of your sanity. Just move on to anything else here, please. Nate • (chatter) 20:47, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe move the section about professional wrestling to Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the performing arts though? - FakirNL (talk) 05:25, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
All Football variations in one section
[edit]I suggest grouping Association football, Australian rules football and Gridiron football into one section "Football" with sub-sections for each of the above as shown in the following example:
- Football
- Association football
- Australian rules football
- Gridiron football
Same for hockey:
- Hockey
- Field hockey
- Ice hockey
What is the consensus?
Kvwiki1234 (talk) 03:45, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- I would not say association football is particularly close to American football or Aussie rules. Neither do I think field and ice hockey are very close. They are very dissimilar sports that historically just happen to have similar names. - FakirNL (talk) 09:16, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
Silly poetic sentence in lead/lede
[edit]Let's delete "Spectators have no games to watch and players no games to play" from the lead. It's sourced, but it's not even true. I can't believe it has survived this long. I would be bold and delete it myself right now, but wanted to put this on the talk page for a while since (1) it's in the lead, (2) it's sourced, and (3) this is probably a fairly high-visibility page. Thanks! Holy (talk) 19:41, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on sports
[edit]Hi! I am planning on making a few changes to this article to give more relevant information and fix a few grammar errors. First, I am going to add a few words under the North America section about the MLB, more specifically Justin Turner and the Dodgers. I plan to make a new section that gives more detail on how specific teams are reacting to the virus, adding on a bit about the ongoing outbreak with the Wisconsin Badgers football team, and how other teams reacted to new protocols because of COVID-19 pandemic. I plan on introducing ways in which teams have supported staff in financial crisis as well.Mrh294 (talk) 21:52, 6 December 2020 (UTC)MariaHudson
