Honkai Star Rail is A spin-off

[edit]

I have a concern that people would say that this is a main game as Honkai 4 Isnt related to this. 111.125.109.189 (talk) 07:22, 14 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Technically HSR isn't related to HI3rd (and by extension the rest of the Honkai series games) but I highly doubt this will be a large issue, considering how much HSR plays into the 'unrelated alternate universe'-type trope
Please do also keep in mind that Wikipedia talk pages are meant to be for discussion about the article itself and any improvements, and not to discuss the subject of the article itself (⌒_⌒;) EastBlowingGale (talk) 20:33, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding story section details

[edit]

Would anyone mind cleaning up/summarising the story section?

A few problems I find with it are:

- Overly detailed, with far too many story spoilers

- Inconsistency in whether 'they' or 'he/she' (or equivalent for pronoun case) is used to refer to the Trailblazer (whose gender is selected by the player)

- No citations anywhere in the story/setting section (although I'm not sure if official HoYo sources have anything to cite off of qwq)

Additionally I believe screenshots of gameplay (open world / in battle) would be great to add to improve the article, I'd add these myself but I play HSR off of a 2018 iPad where all characters show up as completely white, which I don't think would be a great Wikipedia contribution (# ̄0 ̄) EastBlowingGale (talk) 20:37, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

removed the spoilers and details, fixed consistency, but still might need some help with citations.
in addition, i dont think gameplay is the best addition. imo, images from some of the game's irl pre launch events like the pom pom in london etc would be much better Despressso (talk) 06:12, 14 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I also second the gameplay not being very helpful for the story section, and I would recommend pictures of the different areas (Belobog, Boulder Town, Everwinter Hill, Palace of Astrum, etc.) to help the reader understand how far the Nameless travel. I would also recommend sub sections for each arc of the story (Herta Space Station, Jarilo VI, Xianzhou Luofu, etc.) so the points where each arc begins and ends is more apparent to the reader.
I disagree with the IRL events being used for the story section, and I would recommend them being placed in the "Reception" or "Development" section, with my personal pick being the "Development" section. I disagree with this solely based on the fact that the IRL events tend to have little to no effect on the in-game story (For reference, I will point to the collaboration with Domino's France: https://hsr.hoyoverse.com/feast?lang=en . If this were part of the story, then there would be a mission regarding food delivery or pizza, but there is no such thing.)
I would like to apologise for popping up out of thin air with a long rant regarding the article. The reason for it is mostly due to my enjoyment of the game, and my desire to participate in anything relating to it. I'll be happy to contribute in a more positive fashion in the future! I suggest we cite using {{Cite video game}}, following Genshin Impact's suit. An example from Genshin Impact can be:
{{cite video game|title=原神|trans-title=Genshin Impact|developer=[[miHoYo]]|date=April 12, 2020|version=1.4|scene=A Herald Without Adherents|level=We Will Be Reunited|quote='''Dainsleif''': 'Khaenri'ah was a nation without a god – not because it had a god that died or abandoned them, but because it never had a god to begin with. It was a powerful nation, built purely by humans, an unprecedented flourishing and glorious civilization – it was the pride of humankind..'}}
Supergrey1 (talk) 16:02, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, we can borrow the style of tables in Genshin Impact page. Make a plot table based on chapters. The corresponding article in Chinese can also be helpful, as they are already pretty well written. Supergrey1 (talk) 16:09, 22 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The plot table has been done. The cite video game idea is a good idea. I might do it soon. 134.215.176.89 (talk) 01:45, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Another suggestion: it would be more clean if we remove the Trailblaze Continuance missions in the Story section. They are not part of the main story, nor are they significant enough to not be left out. Unless someone volunteers to summarize them into single short paragraphs and then add to the summary of their corresponding planets, I would suggest we just remove them altogether. Supergrey1 (talk) 17:08, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the strategy is just to remove them. The Belobog one is an introduction to the IPC and their methods (a build-up to Penacony in stakes but not necessarily story), and the Xianzhou one just sets up the Herta Space Station Continuance by establishing what heliobi are going in.
Crown of the Divine and Mundane is the trickiest one to remove because we're establishing who the Annihilation Gang is, but I think it should be fine for us to remove their mention in the Penacony part? It only really establishes that Acheron shouldn't be at Penacony, and we can add the additional context for the Gang and Inferno's death when the followers of Duke Inferno enter the story. Characters?

[edit]

Still no Characters section? RPC7778 (talk) 17:31, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Two choices: one is directly adding a Characters section here, the other is to translate List of Honkai: Star Rail characters from Chinese (or rewrite from scratch). Supergrey1 (talk) 03:51, 9 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Supergrey1 That's probably a viable option, since List of Genshin Impact characters exist as well. Veracious ^(•‿•)^ 04:09, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Either choices will work, if the characters keep growing so they are too many to list in the main article, a separate character article can be created in the future. That's my opinion. Vulcan❯❯❯Sphere! 05:16, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

HoYoLab as a source?

[edit]

Is it allowed? RPC7778 (talk) 03:36, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. After reading WP:SOCIALS, and assuming HoYoLab is on the same level with Facebook and Instagram, I'm going to assume it's allowed to be used a source, as long as the posts come from the official Honkai: Star Rail account. RPC7778 (talk) 04:44, 25 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

shouldn't there be more content in the reception section? And about the use of a pejorative for a certain character's home planet...

[edit]

Based on what I've learned of this game, there has been more antagonistic reception than people criticizing bland female character designs. I've seen many people call out the colorism(Discrimination based on skin tone) in regards to all character designs and the fact that the one character possessing melanin pigmentation, Arlan, is lacking the gameplay mechanic known as skill points.

in addition, less of a reception problem and more of a controversy tab or development tab issue, but playable character Aventurine is from a race named by a pejorative for Roma people, from the planet 茨冈尼亚-Ⅳ. A source from a Roma online historian is here . GhoulishLantern (talk) 17:45, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
