Talk:HardBall!
Release Date
[edit]I was just wondering what the exact release date was for the Genesis version of the game. I know the year was 1991 but I need the month and day. Pretty soon you will find me asking this on a lot of games. Fableheroesguild 18:01, 25 July 2005 (UTC)
Hardball 5
[edit]I'd like to provide some info about Hardball 5.
- It was released for the Playstation
- It features historic teams with complete rosters
- It does not feature real logos, though the Seattle logo was very similar to the Mets logo.
- In the Playstation version, Oakland and San Francisco are misplaced at the top of their divisions.
- The game features trading, free agency, and minor leagues.
- It features historical stadiums.
- It features two divisions of historic teams: Legends and Immortals. It even has a Legends vs Immortals game in historic mode.
The reason for the historic teams with complete rosters and the historic stadiums is because of the lack of necessity for detail. Nowadays, stadiums have to look as realistic as possible.
Judging by all these features, I'd say this is basically an early simulator.
There are also two versions of Hardball 5 (at least for PC). Hardball 5 (1995) and Hardball 5 (1996). The 1995 version was released prior to the actual 1996 MLB season, the 1996 version was released prior to the actual 1997 MLB season. The game boxes are identical (I think. 1995 may have red/silver lettering, 1996 may have white lettering). To my knowledge, there were no gameplay changes between the 2 versions. The (1996) version was only to update player rosters, stats, and skill levels. I recall getting both versions as a kid when they came out, and Brady Anderson (I'm an Os fan) had really high batting power in the 1996 version and low batting power in the 1995 version because in the 1996 MLB season he had a surprising 50 Home Runs. Another difference, I believe, is that the 1995 version was only compatible with DOS, whereas the 1996 version was also compatible with Windows 95/98. It seems some websites refer to the 1996 version as "hardball 5 enhanced".Mojodaddy (talk) 17:49, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
