Datacentre Location
[edit]The location of the datacentre in the article was recently changed from Los Angeles to Houston. I am under the impression that the datacentre is in LA and the management centre in Houstan. Can anyone shed light on this? RevenDS 18:04, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- They moved all of their equipment to a data center in Houston as of the end of April.
Citations
[edit]To me, it looks like the users suggesting statistics and 'opinions of many users' in the 'Criticisms' section are just disgruntled users. There are no references to any actual proof, and there is even a mention of 98% being the amount of time users get maintenance downtime errors. That's completely un-neutral. RevenDS 16:07, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
Unencyclopedic Addition
[edit]- There has been some downtime lately (8th february)because of some database and server errors... The FileFront Network Sites are also not working correct but it will be fixed! The servers will be stable again!
Am I the only one who thinks that looks/sounds/flows in a very unprofessional and unencyclopedic way?
- It is true that FileFront is facing some downtime (I can not go into details as the information I am aware of is protected by a nondisclosure agreement) but this could probably be worded a little better. Knippschild 05:23, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed, that hardly sounds like an entry in the history books. To me, it sounds more like "Oopsie, we made a boo-boo, but wait - don't leave, we'll be back in a jiffy!". I've made an edit which is hopefully more suitable. Kouen 18:15, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Logo.filefront.gif
[edit]Image:Logo.filefront.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 06:19, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Financed?
[edit]How does this site stay in business? Its bandwidth usage has to be huge and since you don't have to pay for it, I don't know how it can survive just supported by ads. Anyone know? RobertM525 06:22, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- It makes money through advertisements both on the main site and on the network sites (which probably get more hits) and through its FastPass service, where people pay money for faster, dedicated servers to download from. RevenDS 20:50, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Gone?
[edit]Filefront is closing down? That seems like quite a blow to gaming and mods. I can only hope that the place comes back later. Is there any confirmation that this is permanent? because the way they said 'indefinitely' seems pretty ominous. Bye to any forumers who come by - NiRv4n4. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.237.55.2 (talk) 18:57, 26 March 2009 (UTC)
- THE great FileFront will be dead the 30th march, and it seems there is no alternative. If a miracle happens like Google buying FileFront, maybe a "light" FileFront could survive, but it seems no one want to save it. yet.
- Anyway, if you want to help us backup FileFront files and save mods from perma-death (it's videogame History !), may the Dunkirk spirit be with us, join us. --90.60.90.52 (talk) 21:44, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
I have my thory that this is an aprils fools joke.86.45.79.71 (talk) 23:59, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- I really doubt that they would pull the forums off, and screw up the moderator capabilities for a week to have an April Fools joke. I mean, the fact that they are closing because of the 'current economic situation' seems a little ambiguous, so your theory has small credence. i doubt it though, unfortunately. 72.237.55.2 (talk) 02:00, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- It's no secret that Ziff Davis Media has been in financial troubles for a long while, and all their other electronic properties have been sold on already. I have my thoughts on this as well as the handling of the network by ZDM over the past five years, but I'm restrained from expressing them as my non-disclosure agreement is still in effect. Either way, given that there are now over a dozen unemployed people in Houston, I don't think this is any laughing matter. Even with ZDM's history, self-sabotage isn't something they'd willingly do.
- Thankfully, they didn't manage to nail the network, as it's staff pulled together and now possess complete copies of the file archives and databases, ready to regroup. Mikouen (talk) 04:24, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- This is really too bad. This was the only site I trusted to download modifications from, and it is an excellent site. It's too bad this had to happen. :( --Jesant13 (talk) 20:04, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- It's a April Fools Day joke, I e-mailed the staff and telling them that I knew it was a April Fools Day joke (since it's the most popular download site in the world, it can't go down, plus they are "shutting down" on April Fools Day [well technically they claim to be doing it on the night before]) and they replied saying that I caught them.--24.240.186.152 (talk) 01:33, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- This is confirmed by the presence of the website itself AFTER the specified date (March 30). Still don't believe me? I just downloaded GMOD IDE from it.--HawkFromHell (talk) 09:15, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- It isn't a joke. you can't access the news anymore either, and many features i saw last night are no longer there. They are just taking a while to delete everything. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.237.55.2 (talk) 11:03, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's definitely not a joke, but they're not shutting down anymore. It seems the original founders have taken it back, which means Filefront is now its own independent company again. An announcement was posted replacing the farewell message. 70.79.113.90 (talk) 23:35, 2 April 2009 (UTC)
past tense
[edit]Some parts of this article are written in the past tense (i.e. "The forums used to have moderators, but they all died.", which in itself is not a very encyclopedic statement).--24.240.186.152 (talk) 01:35, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
Strange
[edit]All sites still seem to be online. 50 latest files feature came back online, although file categories still don't work. Also, sites now show number of users logged in (which was also disabled). I wonder what's really going on there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wdmonster (talk • contribs) 18:56, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
- It was a April Fools Day joke.--24.240.186.152 (talk) 22:47, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
It wasn't a joke, filefront is really down. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.102.154.150 (talk) 00:48, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
It's not down, checked at 6:28am on 1st April. Still up, TwigsterX (talk) 05:27, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
It was down, but now they are back again with lots of non-functional features and no forums. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.102.153.72 (talk) 12:41, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

- I'm glad it's still up, it's better without Ziff Davis.

GameFront now closing?
[edit]When i try to download any file from GameFront it now says 403 - Forbidden and the site has now strange looking without backgrounds, images, etc and also on the forum the one banner is empty and says 403 - Forbidden. what is now happening to GameFront? 109.174.115.63 (talk) 10:43, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- Firstly, I haven't encountered any of these issues on Gamefront, having just tested it. Secondly, this is not a forum for questions such as these, you'd be better off looking for answers on perhaps the Gamefront Forums, or the forums of another gaming-related website. – Nohomers48 (talk • contribs) 10:53, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
- Until November 8 it was fine. But when i go to this site now, i get same issues including 403 - Forbidden when trying to download any files. I tired waiting several days but it still don't get fixed. Does is a regional issue or my IP address don't have permission to this site? 109.174.115.63 (talk) 09:20, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
- This what this site now look like this: [1] the forum page looks like this: [2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.174.115.63 (talk) 10:11, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
- I am not getting any of this. To me the site looks like this: [3].The forums look like this: [4]. I think it may be something wrong with your connection to the site.– Nohomers48 (talk • contribs) 10:21, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
- But i still get same issues that i said above and i'm from Russian Federation. Does it might may be a regional issuse or something like that? 109.174.115.191 (talk) 07:54, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
- Entirely possible, I'm not in a position to find out unfortunately. – Nohomers48 (talk • contribs) 09:21, 11 November 2012 (UTC)
- OMG! It now works fine! (Thread closed). 109.174.115.191 (talk) 08:32, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
- But then same situation happends here, except the site now look fine but on the forum there's sill wthie banner that says 403 - Forbidden. 109.174.115.255 (talk) 08:25, 14 November 2012 (UTC)
- Probably nothing worth worrying about. At this point, now that it appears you can access the forums properly, you should probably go on there and continue this with users on Gamefront's forums itself. Wikipedia isn't really the appropriate location for this sort of conversation. – Nohomers48 (talk • contribs) 00:10, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
- These FileFront "bugs" are due to their server-imposed ban on some countries (incl. RF, Argentina, etc.). User visitng from these countries unable to access many FF features (incl. screenshots and, most importantly, downloading.). Sad, but true. Seryo93 (talk) 15:56, 21 November 2012 (UTC)
