Paragraph breaks

[edit]

@KahnJohn27: Instead of arguing in edit summaries, I welcome you to discuss why you're opposed to paragraph breaks in the long and rambling gameplay section. I know from discussion on your talk page that you view the article through the mobile app only, so it may not be clear how the paragraph looks on other displays and why the paragraph breaks help. I have placed three paragraph breaks based on the subject of each changing. The first paragraph primarily details dwellers, the second covers the vault, and the third covers the reward/micro-transaction lunchboxes. Please list your reasons for opposing the paragraph breaks. -- ferret (talk) 11:59, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Ferret: I know how the paragraph break looks on other devices I even know how it looks on a computer. Your third paragraph is made up of only 2 lines and on a computer it will only show up in only one single line. Your 2 lines "paragraph" isn't even enough to warrant a paragraph. Therefore I suggest you merge the second and third paragraph. KahnJohn27 (talk) 12:55, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

@KahnJohn27: I think it's silly that I need to open a discussion on this at all. There is absolutely no reason not to link SPECIAL to the more indepth description located on the main Fallout series page. Wikilinks are cheap and allow a reader who wants more information to quickly find it. The fact that a basic description of SPECIAL is present in the article doesn't matter, as it doesn't go into detailed description or show how SPECIAL relates to the Fallout series in general. Please reply with your rationale on WHY a wikilink shouldn't be used. -- ferret (talk) 12:01, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Ferret: I think its the silliest thing to have a Wikilink for this when I gave its basic definition in the article itself. It is a waste of time and space. But still if you think there has to be a Wikilink then I think there might be not much problem in allowing it to stay. It is foolish to argue over a Wikilink. KahnJohn27 (talk) 12:59, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The point is to be informative and allow the reader to find more information IF they so desire. We're only discussing because you felt it worth arguing over. :) Sounds like a case closed now. -- ferret (talk) 13:02, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Ferret: The SPECIAL which you Wikilinked does not even have an article. It simply redirects to SPECIAL section of the Fallout (series). Not only that seeing as to how I provided the definition in the Fallout Shelter article itself there was no need for a Wikilink. And just one more thing I'll like to say. Even though I'm letting it go you are falsely accusing me that I wanted to argue over it. I never wanted to argue over it. It was actually you who started arguing over it and added the wikilink. It was you who kept reverting my edits and added the wikilink back even though I gave valid reasons for removing it. And it was you who started this meaningless argument about a wikilink on the talk page, not me. So if there's somebody to blame I think you should blame yourself. KahnJohn27 (talk) 13:46, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I know where it redirects to, as I intentionally linked to that subsection. This article contains nothing more than the names of the stats that make up the acronym "SPECIAL". The link provides further information and how it relates to Fallout as a whole. By reverting me first, you began the "arguing". Because you continued to repeatedly revert me and begin an edit war, the appropriate course of action was to take the discussion to the talk page. I'm not interested however in discussing it further, since have said you would not remove it again. -- ferret (talk) 13:55, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Screenshot

[edit]

@KahnJohn27: Moving this from my talk page to here. Yes, the image is low quality, intentionally so. This is the typical format used for video game screenshots that are non-free. Yes, I also forgot the licensing rationale tag when I uploaded it last night, and I have fixed the tag now. You will find that pretty much every video game screenshot has the same quality and same license rationale.

Also, the image is not pulled from a random website, it is pulled from one of the reviewers that you yourself added to the article, Financial Post. Perhaps your viewing it on a mobile device is why you can't make out details, but on both my desktop machine and my Samsung phone, I can clearly make out the details. -- ferret (talk) 12:04, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Ferret: It actually has nothing to do with my mobile. On my mobile I can make clearly make out the details of Fallout 3's gameplay image and that image is actually of lower resolution than your Fallout Shelter image. Why is it that is it only your image that isn't even clearly visible? It's quite clear that its the fault of your image rather than mine because I can view many smaller images clearly on my device. KahnJohn27 (talk) 12:50, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
As I said, the image was taken straight from a reviewer, and I can see the details clearly on my screens. If you disagree, you are certainly free to find a different image and upload it over the existing one. The current image should suffice until you find one more to your liking, however. -- ferret (talk) 12:52, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@KahnJohn27: I pulled the full size image from the reviewer, and resized it manually, which bumped up the quality of the screenshot quite a bit. Please take a look. -- ferret (talk) 12:59, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are making it up because I can clearly see the details of the images even when zoomed in a little and these images are smaller than that of Fallout Shelter. And by the way I'm not actually using a mobile, I'm using an iPod Touch 4. I think when you were reducing the size of the image you must have forgotten to note that you might have drastically reduced the clarity of the image. The image is for showing the gameplay but it is useless since anyone can hardly see what'a going on in the image because of its poor quality. Since you are the one who uploaded an unclear image it is your responsibility that you upload it with another one that ha better quality. KahnJohn27 (talk) 13:08, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The original version was reduced in size automatically by Financial Post's webpage. As I noted above, I have since pulled the full size version and resaved it at a higher quality. -- ferret (talk) 13:11, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for correcting it. The image is now much clearer than before. But still however I would suggest you upload a higher resolution image since the image is still somewhat unclear when you open it in browser see the image in its full resolution. Especially the vault dwellers aren't clearly visible. Hence I recommend you upload a higher quality and higher resolution image. KahnJohn27 (talk)
If you're referring to the dimensions of the image (currently 620 × 348 pixels), then this can not be done. Per WP:NFCC#3a, the image should not be enlarged any more than its current state. -- Rhain1999 (talk to me) 05:10, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be happy to review this. JAGUAR  11:44, 9 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Initial comments

[edit]
  • "it was released for iOS devices on June 14, 2015, and for Android devices on August 13, 2015" - it would be worth mentioning it was released worldwide for these devices
  • "Fallout Shelter tasks the player with building and managing their own Vault" - I would begin this sentence with the game, as the title seems repetitive in the lead
  • I think the lead is well written however I would recommend merging it into two paragraphs, as per WP:LEAD short paragraphs disrupt flow of the prose
  • "Common complaints included the game's lack of depth..." - why not criticisms?
  • "On November 5, 2009 John Carmack, who at that time worked for id Software, said that while it's nothing official yet, he had an internal proof of concept made for a Fallout iPhone game" - sounds like a missing quotation
  • "On August 13, a major update was launched alongside the release of the Android version" - was this update for iOS too or did it just come with the Android version?
  • "e visuals also gained some praise. Daniel Tack of Game Informer summarised the visuals as" - summarized, if this wants to stay true with American spelling
  • "By July 16, 2015, the game earned 5.1 million dollars" - I'm not sure why this isn't written out as $5.1 million

On hold

Nice work on this article! It's very decent and solid throughout. Once all of the above are clarified then I'll be happy to promote this. Please let me know if you have any questions. JAGUAR  19:29, 9 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

So as it seems that the nominator hasn't edited this article in a couple days, I'll help out and fix the issues. Should have them done tonight. Famous Hobo (talk) 17:20, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for picking this up. I'll be keeping my eye on this GAN, as always. JAGUAR  17:38, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, addressed all the issues, as well as a few I saw while casually reading. In the sales section, it said that the game was earning 2.1 million per day, which didn't make sense because in that very same sentence, it mentioned on its release day, so I removed that part. Also, as this is an article I haven't worked on at all up until this point, I might not have worded certain parts correctly, but I think for the most part everything's good. Famous Hobo (talk) 21:38, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for addressing them! Everything is in check and it seems that this definitely meets the GA criteria. You even corrected something I missed, which is much better. Without further ado I'll be promoting this now. JAGUAR  22:51, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lawsuit

[edit]

Recently, on 21 June Bethesda sued Warner Bros. for a game for Westworld. I think that's a huge development and should be added to the article. --► Sincerely: A¥×aᚢ Zaÿïþzaþ€(hail sithis!) 00:21, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Tesla version!

[edit]

A version of Fallout Shelter appeared in the set of games for the Tesla cars.

It plays more or less identically to the mainstream version except that you can't buy things with real-world money and (mercifully) there are no adverts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.156.242.137 (talk) 03:47, 5 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
