Woodside
How long has Elton been at Old Windsor and did he name that home Woodside? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.197.221.222 (talk) 04:11, 30 December 2009 (UTC)
Another movie
In addition to Almost Famous and Mona Lisa Smile, The movie Oh Heavenly Dog, which starred Jane Seymour and Chevy Chase, included Elton's song Return to Paradise, from the A Single Man album.--DorothyBrousseau 01:59, 13 January 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dorothybrousseau (talk • contribs)
studio albums
I added the studio albums only because I find myself constantly going through the EJ article to find his albums. Going through the discography is inefficient and more for the discophiles who are interested in his studio albums and singles and extra-studio work. His studio albums are notable enough to appear on their own, and there are so many, it's nice to see them crunched together. The table on the discography is so spread out, it's difficult to get a feeling for the bulk of his output. –Kerαunoςcopia◁galaxies 01:14, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
Retro Photos
I noticed there are no photos from EJ's early days showing his flamboyant style, crazy glasses, outfits, etc. Long before glam-rockers and current artists fashion. He was a pioneer regarding that, in my opinion. I'm sure that's documented somewhere as well. Even while celebrating his 50th and 60th birthdays, he wore unique "uniforms". Just an idea to add some older pictures of him to the article accordingly. 69.129.170.102 (talk) 20:15, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
- At the bottom of the article is a link to Elton John images in the Wiki Commons; only 28 showed up and none of them were of his older wackier self. If you can find any, for example on Flickr, and they are licensed for sharing (see here, for example), then they can be used on Wikipedia. Otherwise, free images may be rare, hence their lacking on this article. – Kerαunoςcopia◁galaxies 20:24, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Elton John Band Section
this section should be removed. It links to a main page which is the article that you are already on. Redundancy at it's finest. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.129.144.241 (talk) 22:32, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
I have restored the Elton John Band section for the time being but added a merge into Elton John tag if this section is removed part of the information should be merged into the main article. --Lloyd rm (talk) 14:57, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Vocal Range Limited Due to Drug Abuse
I heard an interview with Elton rather recently in which he talked a bit about his vocal range limitations. He admitted that, although his well known operation was the reason for his inability to sing in falsetto, the main culprit was years of drug abuse. He warned of the seductive power of drugs, especially during particularly stressful times in our lives, and said that he's lucky he was able to return to singing at all. I think that's an important part of Elton's life, especially since it's related both to his musical career and to his history of willingness to be open about his life in order to help others. Perhaps someone with better research skills than mine can find a reference to this and add it to the article? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.126.226.142 (talk) 21:24, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Sourcing priority
I am concerned that such a high profile article on a living person is so poorly sourced. It is a matter of priority that statements are sourced. See Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Quotations from Elton John or any other person must be closely cited, as per Wikipedia:Quotations. I will notify the WikiProjects listed above. SilkTork *YES! 10:38, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
- I got one of SilkTork's pings on the state of the article. I was surprised to see that I'm still the #1 editor by frequency, despite not having touched it for several years. The work done in 2005–2006 was long before the footnote-after-every-sentence requirement emerged, and was mostly focused on filling in chronological gaps and arguing about two alternate versions of the 1970s biographical text. I don't have the bandwidth to do much of anything on this article now, but giving it one quick read I think the article is for the most part reasonably balanced and not the BLP emergency that SilkTork seems to imply. Regardless though, a sourcing push is of course warranted. However, I see that those now doing that are mass-citing books without using page numbers, e.g. "^ abcdefghijkl His Song: The Musical Journey of Elton John, Elizabeth Rosenthal, Billboard Books, 2001". This is better than nothing, but not very good for anyone trying to validate particular statements. It would also flunk GAN/FAC immediately. I'd strongly recommend doing a little more work and citing with page numbers. Wasted Time R (talk) 01:40, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
- The BLP concerns are that the article talked quite a lot (without sourcing) about Elton John's sexual habits, his mental health, his baldness, his eating problems, keeping pornographic photographs, etc; rather personal issues that we need to ensure are reliably sourced.
- I agree that Wikipedia was not so concerned with sourcing a few years ago, and many of my first additions to Wikipedia are unsourced (and probably remain so!), but this isn't about blaming anyone, this is about sorting out an issue right now. Bland articles about low profile actors and poets have been deleted from Wikipedia with the support and encouragement of Jimbo simply because the one or two sentences in those articles were unsourced. This is a high profile article on a very high profile person which contains many contentious statements which are unsourced. I contend that our attention should be directed to such articles as this as a matter of urgency. People are encouraged to insert unsubstantiated gossip when they see a lot of unsourced statements. When cleaned up, it will be easier to maintain and ensure that no genuinely inappropriate statement gets inserted. Without the appropriate sourcing we don't know what is true from what is false.
- And I agree that page numbers is needed. Without page numbers it is very hard to check the accuracy of the statement. SilkTork *YES! 10:13, 3 February 2010 (UTC)
So you bin the only section that describes Elton's music, which just happens to be the most important thing about him, and leave in how much money he spends on flowers!? WTF! 70.88.44.174 (talk) 13:30, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- Sort of. I removed the section which had some opinion about Elton John's music, but we didn't know whose opinion it was because the material was unsourced. It could have been the opinion of a music expert, but it could also have been an opinion from a narrow focus fan website. The section opened with "In the 1970s, John's sound immediately set him apart from most others by being piano-based in a rock 'n' roll world dominated by guitars." The early 1970s was a peak period for singer-songwriters, a good number of whom played piano, such as Randy Newman, Tom Waits, Gordon Lightfoot, Gilbert O'Sullivan, etc, so the statement seems rather odd and inaccurate. It is better for us to not have any information rather than incorrect and misleading information. SilkTork *YES! 20:38, 6 February 2010 (UTC)
- I really shouldn't get into this, but since you've banished mention of both the significance of the piano and of Paul Buckmaster from the body of the article, by your logic you should remove the mentions of them from the lead section (where they still are) as well. But the idea that the article shouldn't say anything about how the piano made Elton different from most other rock artists seems silly to me. And virtually every bio or survey of Elton talks about the effect that Buckmaster's string arrangements had on Elton's early sound. Try here or here or here or here or a bunch of others. Way back when I tried to add a focus on Buckmaster's importance to this article, and now there's nothing of it left. But that's the way WP works: take it off your watchlist, kiss it goodbye. Wasted Time R (talk) 01:01, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
- Just cite the sources and put it back.--Ishtar456 (talk) 00:54, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

- Thanks for the links, I'll take a look and see if they can be incorporated into the article. You could also do as Ishtar suggests, and edit the article yourself. I am not at all knowledgable about Elton John, but I am concerned that this article was (and to an extent still is) saying some strong things without appropriate sourcing. SilkTork *YES! 09:58, 8 April 2010 (UTC)
I think the article has been both trimmed back and sourced to an extent that it is no longer a major concern in terms of inaccurate and possibly libelous statements, though it still needs a considerable amount of work to be done to make it more usefully encyclopedic and reliable. Currently it is a collection of statements about Elton John poorly organised and presented, and tending toward trivial puffery. What it needs is a bunch of people who know a bit about Elton John to spend some time working on it so that it does become a useful reference guide of the important highlights of his life. We don't need (or want) to know everything - just the important stuff. I am taking this off my watchlist, but I will pop back now and again to see how it is developing. {{editsemiprotected}} You could (and probably won't, haha) change the headline of the discography section of this article to "The Greatest Discography", in reference to the Elton John song, "The Greatest Discovery" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Greatest_Discovery) from the album, "Elton John" (1970) [ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elton_John_(album)].
As most people looking at the page will be fans, they would understand the reference. And also, the word "discography" is still there so even if you didn't get it, you'd still be able to find this section.
Alternatively, you could change the name of the main article: "Elton John Discography" to "The Greatest Discography" with "Elton John Discography" redirecting there.
Anyway! Thanks a bunch. :))))) I've always loved your work, wiki staff. Love it. :) Jeremy LR Smith.

- I'm sorry, but no - that wouldn't be appropriate, because it would not be a neutral heading. We remain factual and to a certain extent 'boring' in our editorial content - the guidelines on titles of sections (and many other matters) are in Wikipedia:MOSHEAD. Similarly for the title - the article Elton John discography is a discography of the chap, and changing the title may lead to confusion. I hope you understand.
- I suggest you get an account, then you can help us improve articles. If you have any questions at all, do not hesitate to ask me on my talk page. Best, Chzz ► 08:06, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

One french sentence is incorrect : it's not "Le Presbytere N'a Rien Perdu De Son Charme Ni Le Jardin Du Son Éclat" but instead "Le Presbytère N'a Rien Perdu De Son Charme Ni Le Jardin De Son Éclat" ; it's also the exact (and correct !) title of this show.

Elton John was homosexual, and was a musician, so I believe he should be added to the Gay Musicians Category. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Crisy20 (talk • contribs) 13:30, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- Elton John's sexual orientation doesn't change the fact that his music relates to everyone, gay or or otherwise. just because he's gay doesn't mean i should look for a son in the gay listing. Just like it is in life there are homosexuals in all forms of the arts. Life shouldn't be pigeon holed into gay or strait, black or white, Catholic or Mormon... etc. Lets just enjoy what comes our way. TwoTripn Dec. 1, 2010

2010 concert
His concert in which he performed with Leon Russel in support of their new CD "The Union" which was broadcasted on FUSE and FUSE HD (a music channel) on October 19, 2010 at New York Cities Beacon Theater. Both sang their individual songs hits as well as the complete abulm. They later performed some songs the following morning (October 20th, 2010) for the ABC networks Good Morning America. As more people see the special we could add the songs performed and expand this page, the show will be on repeat this week.--Cooly123 11:56, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Married
He is in a civil partnership with David Furnish, a fact which is in the info box of David but it isn't in Elton John's info box. Nor is it mentioned in the summary of his life at the top of the page. Considering this is a rather significant fact about him you'd think the info would be more prominent than it is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.102.116.66 (talk) 21:28, 30 October 2010 (UTC)
- The civil partnership is mentioned in the lead of this article. It is not in the infobox because it is not a field in the musical artist infobox. Furnish's article uses the person infobox, which includes spouse as a field, hence it is included there. Jim Michael (talk) 08:08, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
- This title is incorrect. In the past thousand years of UK law, and as of current UK law, Elton is in a civil partnership. Marriage is in the UK between a woman and a man, hence it is impossible for Elton to marry and why it is impossible that this title should be tolerated. This is no comment on his situation, purely a fact. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.96.221.208 (talk) 02:07, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Something to add to "2010s" section after the portion about the new album with Leon (several sources can be found doing a web search; ie. from the actual show, Elton's blog, etc.): Elton and Leon Russell performed songs to promote their new album (The Union) on Live with Regis & Kelly on Thanksgiving Eve (11.24.10). Edit request
{{Edit semi-protected}} I would like to request a addition to the "Personal Life" section. Recently Sir Elton John and his partner appeared in the news with their new son which sparked much controversy. The following is a summary of the news events that took place early this year:
- "In early 2011, a U.S supermarket, Harps Food store, covered a family portrait of Elton John, his partner David Furnish and their new son Zachary on the cover of “US weekly” in a bid to “protect” shoppers. A local resident came across the “family shield” and was so surprised she uploaded a picture onto her Twitter account. The controversy sparked an investigation by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation.
Spokespersons for the company say that the shield was put in place as a reaction to "several" customer complaints at that particular store. The corporate office then evaluated the situation and made a decision to remove the shield and allow the magazine to the displayed as is. They also made it clear this situation in no way reflects their own views and has since issued an apology. "

Is he actually entitled to be called "Sir"?
The rank he was awarder in the Order of the British Empire is "commander" (CBE), which is not a knighthood and does not allow the use of the prefix "Sir" in his name. Tdunsky (talk) 19:39, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Also, it seems that the reference provided for the award, being only a single page from the London Gazette (Supplement), without any heading, does not provide adequate support for any title? Martinevans123 (talk) 19:50, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
- Is that a statement or a question? In any case, I agree that it's separated from what makes it a good source. It is nevertheless the gazettal of his CBE in 1995.
- You're confusing two things: his title, and his postnominal letters. Sometimes these are related. In EJ's case, they're not.
- He was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1995. That gave him the postnominal CBE, but no title.
- He was made a Knight Bachelor in 1998. That gave him the title of Sir, but no additional postnominals (because Knight Bachelor does not come with a postnominal).
- It is perfectly correct to call him Sir Elton John. In formal contexts, it would be Sir Elton John CBE. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 10:46, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Many thanks for the explanation. I was trying to suggest, in my question, that as it stands the Gazette page is not a good source. There is no evidence of the award title - it could be a list of any awards, only the date is direct support. There is already a source for the knighthood, although would the London Gazette be better? (thats a question). But I think the existing one for the CBE could be better (that's a statement). Martinevans123 (talk) 11:10, 16 March 2011 (UTC)
- Agree. It's from the right document, it just needs to show more of it to reveal which document it's from. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 19:49, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Don't know about elsewhere but in the UK you don't have to "officially" change your name e.g. by deed poll for your new name to become your legal name. You can put an announcement in the paper or just use it consistently until you can demonstrate that it is the name you are known by. Elton John (nee Reginald Dwight) is demonstrably known as Elton John.84.51.188.10 (talk) 02:11, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
- Compare this case with that of Michael Caine. Michael Caine is his stage name, the name everyone knows him by, but he has never renounced his legal birth name Maurice Micklewhite. When he was knighted, he had the choice of becoming Sir Michael Caine or Sir Maurice Micklewhite. He chose the latter, because he wanted to pay a tribute to his Dad, also Maurice Micklewhite. We know all this because there are citations that tell us he chose to go this way. Even so, people generally call him "Sir Michael Caine", which is not bone-crunchingly correct but everyone knows who they're talking about. When Elton John was knighted, he also had the choice of being Sir Elton John or Sir Reginald Dwight, but there's no evidence that he has chosen the latter, and plenty that he's perfectly happy with the former, so it is taken that he has chosen the former. Even if he had become Sir Reginald Dwight formally, people would still be calling him Sir Elton John. And who could blame them? That would, of course, cut no ice for us encyclopedists, but, as I say, there's no evidence he chose to be Sir Reginald anyway. -- ♬ Jack of Oz ♬ [your turn] 06:32, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
- Stage name says this: "Elton John was born Reginald Dwight but changed his name by deed poll, making Elton John his real name. When he was knighted, he became Sir Elton John rather than Sir Reginald Dwight." - is this correct? There is no reference in support. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 09:23, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
Religious skepticism
The article talks about his sexuality, and even mentions his alcoholism, but his religion beliefs -or lack thereof- is only in a category with "Religious skeptics". Tantrums & Tiaras
Add Elton John: Tantrums & Tiaras under "Films" &/or "1990-1999" section (or reference in "2000-present" [2008] when it was released on dvd, although filmed from 1995 with exception of John's/Furnish's commentary). This "documentary" film takes a look at his tour, awards, album and personal life during the mid-to-late 90s, including his hatred for making videos which is why he doesn't appear in videos anymore, the death of his grandmother, his relationship with his partner, his mother and other additional footage of his music career and collaborations in 1995.[3][4] Also, The Big Picture isn't mentioned in the "1990-1999" section (aka "The '90s"). It is listed in discography however, but overlooked when the "Candle in the Wind" (1997) is mentioned. 67.52.24.141 (talk) 12:51, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

I can't edit, so can someone please fix this line:
"The campaign is to bring straight people to stand up with the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered community and stop the discrimination."
"Transgender" doesn't have an "ed" on the end. It's always just "transgender." 174.58.138.200 (talk) 19:28, 23 April 2011 (UTC)

Edit Request
{{edit semi-protected}} In the sectioned titled 'The 90s: "Sacrifice" to Aida (1990–1999)', there is some incorrect information. Specifically, the line: 'The following year, he released Duets, a collaboration with 15 artists including Tammy Wynette and RuPaul. This also included a new collaboration with Kiki Dee, entitled "True Love", which reached the Top 10 of the UK charts, and a duet with Eric Clapton on "Runaway Train", which also charted.[55]'
The song 'Runaway Train' does not appear at all on the 1993 album 'Duets'. It can only be found on the 1992 album 'The One'. The portion of the sentence mentioning 'Runaway Train' in relation to Duets should be deleted, or at least moved to an earlier part of the paragraph where 'The One' is discussed.
This is easily verified by looking up the wiki articles for both Duets and The one.
- Please supply a reliable source for requests like this, and re-request. Wikipedia itself is NOT a reliable source. Thanks. Chzz ► 00:57, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
- Later correction: I've removed the text , and a duet with Eric Clapton on "Runaway Train", which also charted from the sentence - sorry, I see what you mean (that it wasn't on that album). Maybe it should be added elsewhere (with a suitable reference). Chzz ► 18:07, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Wikiproject LGBT studies
I'm glad that the Wikiproject LGBT studies didn't edit this article. I'm pro LGBT especially the transgender recognition fight but what they are doing is not good. Elton is an activist and he is the one who is supposed to say what does he think and not be co-opted by a so called "studies project". They did a terrible work at Cassia Eller's biography because as Cassia is Brazilian there is not too much to search. Sorry to be discussing it here. Please change the description of Elton's visit to the USSR. He was NOT the first western pop star to tour that country. Cliff Richard opened in Leningrad on August 16, 1976, going on to play 12 concerts over 10 days in that city. He then moved to Moscow, beginning his run there on August 28 and playing eight concerts over six days. Thankyou

May I suggest that Leon Russell should be added to the 'associated acts' listed in the infobox? Their joint album, 'The Union' (2010) is already included in the discography. Russell is one of the greats of American music, and Elton John's association with him, bringing him back from obscurity late in his career, reflects great credit on the latter. Cannabis

Addictions
The bio states, "Throughout his career, John has battled addictions to alcohol and cocaine", but then I read here:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2012/jul/24/elton-john-speech-aids-conference
that he "has been sober for 22 years". Which is it??? Sounds to me like he might have only been addicted for roughly the first half of his career. I don't know much about Elton John so I don't want to change the bio, so will let somebody else that knows this subject better do it.

The paragraph currently reads: In 1974 a collaboration with John Lennon took place, resulting in Elton John covering The Beatles' "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and Lennon's "One Day at a Time", and in return Elton John and band being featured on Lennon's "Whatever Gets You thru the Night."
However, the reference to "and in return Elton John and band" should be changed to simply Elton John. His band did not play on the track, only Elton added piano. The rest of the musicians were those Lennon assembled for the sessions on "Walls and Bridges." This can be verified in the album's liner notes.

Suicide attempt
This is just a note for myself or anybody else who wants to add this information to the Elton John article. There should be a mention of his suicide attempt when he was struggling with admitting he is gay and deciding not to get married. I don't know of an official account of this in writing, but I have found that in the "Two Rooms" video, both Elton and Bernie Taupin discuss it in the interviews. For example, see the video on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YwyNTdPbapY). Starting at about the 12:46 time-mark, they talk about Elton's decision and Bernie discovering him lying on the kitchen floor in an attempt to gas himself with the oven (and the windows open). Their song "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is somewhat inspired by this event. --Lance E Sloan (talk) 15:19, 14 December 2012 (UTC)

_No MJ1982, the all recent use is from 250 million records and, 200 million records too (the 300 million is really a minority unimportant; and if coming from years past, it is actually a figure unreal). With Led Zeppelin I have no idea, but one has to evaluate each case, in this context the sales of John are as high of 250 million records worldwide. Moreover, we must take care of the issue of the references because some may be considered reliable sources for Wikipedia, but you better come entirely from sources related to the music industry. For example: Madonna International Federation of the Phonographic Industry 2006 (200 million albums, only albums) or British Phonographic Industry 2012 (300 million records: albums, singles and videos). I see that happens the exact opposite with John, in fact. Regards, Chrishonduras (talk) 23:53, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Hello. Here is written, that Elton John sold more than 200 million albums worldwide: http://www.contactmusic.com/pages/eltonjohn1x22x03x07 Is it a reliable source in your opinion? If yes, then what about singles - when only Candle in the wind '97 was sold in amount of over 33 million - how can it be possible that all together Elton sold worldwide only 250 million records? And here You have some more sources saying about sales of 200 million and even 250 million of Elton's albums only: http://books.google.pl/books/about/Elton.html?id=rVXrl8aZP0kC&redir_esc=y

Peacock words
I take issue with two statements in the second paragraph of the lead article that break WP:PEA guidelines on inappropriate encyclopaedic language - in this case making extreme claims. The first example follows the statement that the sale of records in the millions makes John 'one of the most successful artists of all time'. In the first place this is supported by a link to a website here that makes no such claim, so it is not adequately referenced. In the second, it is contentious that this puts him ahead of all (musical) artists in history, a statement that simply cannot be proved.
A similar claim is made that Rolling Stone 'ranked him Number 49 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time'. What the reference says in fact is that the magazine conducted a survey 'assembling a panel of 55 top musicians, writers and industry executives and asking them to pick the most influential artists of the rock & roll era'. This is completely different, placing him half way through a list of performers of a certain type of music. It is to avoid misguided claims on the basis of wrested facts that Wikipedia has cautioned against using such inflated language. I have therefore deleted both statements and am prepared to make it a matter for the Administrators in future. Mzilikazi1939 (talk) 15:11, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
Ann Orson, Carte Blanche
The article Rock of the Westies states:
- The song "Hard Luck Story" had already been recorded by Kiki Dee, and released as a single one year prior to its recording for Rock of the Westies. Along with "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", it is credited to Ann Orson/Carte Blanche (An horse and cart, Blanche) a moniker John devised when composing a song (music and lyrics) on his own.
However, the article Don't Go Breaking My Heart states that that song was written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin under the Ann Orson and Carte Blanche pseudonyms.
These articles should be made consistent -- is Orson & Blanche a pseudonym for John on his own, or for John & Taupin? And if the latter, can Orson be identified with John and Blanche with Taupin, or vice versa? Incidentally, "Cartier", which appears on the B-side of "Sartorial Eloquence", is credited to Dinah Club and Carte Blanche, presumably a reference to the two credit cards. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 06:40, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Sales - 300 million
Hello. I think it is the time to correct the value of Sir Elton's records sold worldwide. In this particular wiki-article about Elton John there is the number 250 million. It is only a claimed value, similiarly as those given in the article List of best-selling music artists (also 250 million and 200 million). Meanwhile there are several web pages (links below), when you can find a value of 300 million Elton's records sold worldwide. I suggested to editors of the above mentioned wiki-article List of best-selling music artists' to correct the value to 300 million or to add this value. For now I received no answer. Hi Maciek,
I agree with your contributions. I first wanna say I work for RIAA in the US. We are checking artists sales and sources. We have also a close connection to the magazine the rolling stone. The rolling stone in this area is considered one of the most reliable sources when it comes to artists sales. It is also one of the few reliable sources whick makes a difference between record , albums and single sales. So in Eltons case stated his album sales on " more than 250 mio" This means without singles , videos or digital sales.

I think you both are right! I looked your rolling stone article up and it just speaks of more than 250 mio ALBUMS! so his complete sales are some higher I think!--Rusex (talk) 13:45, 10 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi Guys,
many thanks to You, specially to U2new for the very substantial and friendly post :) So, taking into consideration the fact that alone "Something About the Way... / Candle in the Wind '97" sold worldwide over 33 million copies, I would judge the total amount of Elton's RECORDS sold worldwide for minimum 350 million copies! However it seems that either editors of english wikiarticle about Elton John or editors of many language versions of wikiarticles "list of best selling music artist" don't give a s...t about the reliability of the information provided :( Though the editor of the official site eltonjohn.com promised to re-consider the value 250 million RECORDS given in the site... we'll see what's next.
If I have some questions about Elton's sales certifications, I will not hesitate to contact You, U2new :))
Sorry for my english...
Cheers and respect, Maciek 94.124.18.19 (talk) 15:03, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
You are most welcome!

Ok guys so we should now think about which source(s) we take .Is there somewhere anyone who can help us editing the article, with new sources?
--Obahma (talk) 23:17, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
Hello there.
I think both sources ("U2new's" interwiew from The Rolling Stone and "my" article from The Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebritynews/5197203/Sir-Elton-John-adds-an-extra-date-to-his-tour.html ) seem to be reliable and to confirm Elton's worldwide RECORDS sales at the level of minimum 350 million. I hope we will find anyone willing to help us editing the wikiarticle :)
In passing: in my country, wikipedia is quite better organized - You can always edit every article You want, but Your edit has to be accepted by a moderator. Sometimes You have to convince such a moderator or make a discussion with him, but here You are from the start on the lost position and have to ask for.
Cheers,
Maciek94.124.18.19 (talk) 11:56, 23 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi , If you want ill change it for you in the next days? Agreed? Any extra information for the article. I checked the sources out and they are good agree on that ! Best wishes--Willy993 (talk) 17:07, 26 August 2013 (UTC)
Hey Willy993, if You may do it for us, it's really great! Thanks in advance, best regards, Maciek94.124.18.19 (talk) 13:13, 27 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi , agree with Maciek and U2 new. The telegraph is a good source along with the Rolling Stone--Rusex (talk) 14:42, 28 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi, thanks Willy993 for modyfing the article! I thought that You put in the article the value "350 million" or at least mentioned about "100 million singles", but anyway thanks a lot!
I just noticed that the first source (Rolling Stone interview) doesn't work anymore, but I have it saved and may facilitate it or upload somewhere, if needed :) Cheers Maciek94.124.18.19 (talk) 10:36, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Ok, we have 300 million!!!
Kind regards, Maciek94.124.18.19 (talk) 14:29, 2 October 2013 (UTC)
Information in the lead
It seems we have a disagreement about an entry in the lead section, about his song Candle in the Wind 1997. I reverted the change for reasons stated in the edit summary, an editor is in disagreement, so I'm here to reach consensus about the issue. To reply to Dennis lance's edit summary on their revert, I don't contest the importance of the song, I question the amount of information given to this addition. Mlpearc (powwow) 00:33, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
Ok, friend, now I understand Your point (that the LEAD section is too roomy and detailed). I'm gonna try to reedit it.

"John"
I don't care about all those "John this" and "John that". I'd rather read "Elton this" and "Elton that". Two reasons:
- He is better known as "Elton" than "John", if a single-token name is to be selected. Besides, in the USA, we're very often on a "first name" basis.
- "John", being a given name, brings about confusion when used as a family name.
What say thee ? --Jerome Potts (talk) 05:52, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
- I completely agree :) Cheers, MaciekDennis lance (talk) 14:07, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- WP:SURNAME would disagree.--Egghead06 (talk) 17:47, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm, there's the Names confused with common words and well-known single names clause in there (an example is Siouxsie Sioux), where "John" applies IMO. --Jerome Potts (talk) 06:50, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
- "John" is neither a common word nor a well-known single name?--Egghead06 (talk) 20:16, 7 December 2013 (UTC)

- As Egghead06 states above, WP:SURNAME & also WP:FULLNAME kinda makes this discussion moot. Mlpearc (open channel) 20:27, 7 December 2013 (UTC)
Why did Elton's voice change?
I heard that he blew out his vocal chords and required surgery years ago. I read (or missed it) nothing regarding that on the main page of his bio. His voice definitely changed from his earlier recordings to what it is now. Strange? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.114.69.149 (talk) 05:33, 17 December 2013 (UTC)
Prog Rock
Even though Elton John may not be considered Prog like many artists of that time, it seems to me early in his career there was a Prog influence or maybe could have been considered "Pop Prog". When I listen to "Empty Sky", "Funeral for a Friend" and even "Rocket Man" there's a Prog sound going on. So in someways, with all the genres he's in, couldn't Prog be one of them as well? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.80.110.225 (talk) 02:28, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
- Just because a couple of songs may have a "Prog influence", it does not necessarily warrant inclusion in the infobox. However, if you have reliable sources to back you up, then it may be something that could be put in the musical style section. Twyfan714 (talk) 21:58, 3 April 2014 (UTC)
Actually on Wikipedia, Empty Sky is considered a progressive rock album, and from what Wikipedia describes as progressive rock it fit the description. So why shouldn't he considered prog. I think it's justified and compliments his versatility as a musical artist. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.80.110.225 (talk) 05:19, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
- The infobox is a brief overview. Long lists detract from its usefulness. Adding multiple genres to it also confuses the reader as they have no way of knowing what proportion of their output applies to which genre. --Escape Orbit (Talk) 19:05, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
- The infobox should contain broad generalities. The article body is where John's foray into prog can be described. Binksternet (talk) 19:50, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
Elton John "Live in Australia"
This article fails to mention Elton John's fabulous live album "Live in Australia", released in 1987 and recorded in Sydney at the Sydney Entertainment Centre shortly after surgery to remove nodules on his vocal cords. The effect of the surgery on his voice can be heard on a number of the tracks on this album, when he drops an octave on some of the higher notes. This recording features a number of his great early tracks, and uses the backing of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The recording itself is only of the second half of the concert (the first half only featured Elton John and his band, with the orchestra only participating in the second half of the concert).
Tracks on the album are: 1. Sixty Years On 2. I Need You to Turn to 3. The Greatest Discovery 4. Tonight 5. Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word 6. The King Must Die 7. Take Me to the Pilot 8. Tiny Dancer 9. Have Mercy on the Criminal 10. Madman across the Water 11. Candle in the Wind 12. Burn down the Mission 13. Your Song 14. Don't Let the Sun Go down on Me Mbagshaw (talk) 04:21, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
Vocal
Recently a new list was released with singers vocal range. The list measured the ranges by all albums recorded by the singer. Elton s album voice range is from e2 ( mona lisas) till d6 ( social disease). I think this should as well be mentioned. http://www.samachar.com/This-Interactive-Chart-Compares-the-Vocal-Ranges-of-the-Worlds-Greatest-Singers-ofurLEdagie.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by MJ1982 (talk • contribs) 16:46, 16 July 2014 (UTC)
Edit Request - Marriage to Renate Blauel
Wikipedia article indicates length of marriage as 3 years. Article in People Magazine [1] indicates marriage of 4 1/2 years (Feb 14, 1984 - unknown date, late 1988). Cw3Retired (talk) 19:55, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
Remove the Redundancy!!!
"Nine-year anniversary" is redundant. The word "anniversary" means "a year's turning." The correct label is "ninth anniversary" -- which means "nine year's turnings."
There is absolutely *no* reason to say it is a "one-year" anniversary (or "three-year," "nine-year," etc.) since the word anniversary already has the concept built into it! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.115.74.132 (talk) 16:18, 23 December 2014 (UTC)
Save Rock and Roll??
For those who didn't know, Elton was featured on the titular track of Fall Out Boy's 2013 album "Save Rock and Roll", in fact he is even credited on the album's page in the track list, so someone should get on to adding that under the 2010 to present section of his life and career.

Elton John is married to David Furnish , he should be listed as Elton John's Spouse married in 2014. HeldonR (talk) 04:53, 19 February 2015 (UTC)
- Already done It's actually already there but, the {{Infobox musical artist}} does not support the spouse parameter, this is why it's not showing on the page. The infobox would have to be changed to {{Infobox person}} for that parameter to work and that would have to be discussed before that change would happen.
