First joke

[edit]

I don't have the year (1991?) but the first ever EGM april fools joke was a fake code for playing as Simon Belmont from Castlevania in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game.

Actually, the first was when EGM had a massive typo on the cover and tried to play it off as a joke. I forgot the year though... - Malomeat 18:26, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This typo you're talking about was in 1994's cover (StrEEEts of Rage, it said, or something like that, and I don't know if that's listed in the article), while the april fools joke started back to 1991's april issue :D D7maj (talk) 23:25, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Akuma in Resident Evil 2?

[edit]

I remember this bogus code appearing in their april 1998 issue, complete with pictures and all. They said you had to beat the game a bunch of times using only the knife and pistol in order to do some zombie bashing with this once elusive Street Fighter character... How come it is not mentioned in this article? (I never had the issue myself, so I can't check...) --Dez26 20:22, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah. I remember my friend tried to do it too. I forget the issue, but I know it existed.Phoenicks 06:05, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Additions

[edit]

I added the Jokes from 1999-2001, that should help expand the article.

Hints

[edit]

All the April issues I've seen had tip-offs in the joke articles, but this article only appears to mention the two most recent. I recall the SSBM one showed April 1, 2002 as the "unlock date" on the "dream is cast" message, and LotR Kart Racing had something similar in the race time. Can we get these added? --Shay Guy 04:05, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ironically

[edit]

The word ironically is used far too often in this page.

Ironically, it's not that necessary for the article's legibility.

Looking for Scan of the 2005 Article

[edit]

I'm looking for a scan of the Legend of Zelda article. If anyone could add it to the page, that would be awesome. Maybe we could all look and see if we can't find any old articles and scan it, while getting permission from EGM?

Cover typo as April Fools Joke

[edit]

I think I remember reading somewhere (perhaps it was their 200th issue where they had a special article on the April Fools jokes over the years) that the Streeets of Rage of typo was accidental and they played it off as a April Fools day joke.

The ¨Streets of RRRRRRRage¨ thing? That´s mentioned. - !Malomeat 22:44, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No, what I'm saying is that it wasn't ACTUALLY an april fools day joke. It was a real typo, and they later just said it was an april fools day joke. In this article it's treated as a real, intentional april fools joke.
I'll clarify. They published an "April" issue with a misprint of three "e"s in the word "Streets" about the coverage of games included in that issue. The next month, they claimed it was that years "April fools" joke. Years later, in an article about EGMs history (I don't recall exactly) it was disclosed that it had originally been a typo that slipped passed the editors. They did cover "Streets of Rage III", as I recall. --MeStinkBAD (talk) 01:01, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mushroom Kingdom Hearts Pic Wanted

[edit]

I can't find the MKH image anywhere! I checked google and it isn't here. I'd like it for a fanfic.

Sheng Long merge discussion

[edit]

I strongly disagree. The Sheng Long april fool's gag EGM did is notable enough by itself, and the article should be improved instead of rushed into a merging on an already large page, resulting in information loss. Not to mention the information posted last year by Alan Noon regarding the character's planned appearance in the movie based game would be something that wouldn't fit in this page at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Kung Fu Man (talkcontribs) 21:28, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2008 April Fool's Day Joke

[edit]

[Lego Halo] definitely an april fool's day joke. A new character supposedly being introduced is called 'Burt-041' 041= 4/1 April Fool's Day. NinjaRooster (talk) 18:06, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2013 April Fool's Day Joke ?

[edit]

The March/April 2013 print issue of EGM includes a story titled "A Mass-ive Shift for Final Fantasy" which details a new announcement from Square Enix concerning a "$41 Million" deal with BioWare founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk to develop "all major upcoming Final Fantasy releases". Besides the fact that there is absolutely zero substantiation for this story, and the subtle 41 (4/1), this is also a really awesome bit of news that would make a lot of people really happy -- so it can't possibly be true.
