Alaska State Troopers shooting
[edit]First off, COI: I live in Fairbanks and have had approximately 15 years worth of dealings with Scott Johnson stretching back to when he was an MP at Fort Wainwright(note: faulty memory, I had Johnson mixed up with another AST officer in my recollection of the former MP – the rest of the statement is correct). Most of these dealings were professional in nature, though very, very few of them can be considered positive. Saying anything more than that requires divulging details regarding my livelihood, which I don't care to do. For these reasons, I'd just as soon not be involved in this. However, did I see an edit summary stating that we can't include him just because one particular source doesn't mention whether or not he appeared on AST? I held off on reading the coverage of this story until this morning, when I had some time to digest it. I didn't want to spend a lot of time searching with my phone last night, even though talk on the streets around town since yesterday has focused almost exclusively on this story. I noticed that there's A LOT of coverage, and that most of the coverage is because of the TV show; news stories about cop killings in general seem to be boilerplate material nowadays. Following coverage, it appeared that earlier stories mentioned only Rich, but numerous later stories included mention that Johnson appeared on the show. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 01:15, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- I have no problem with them on the list. Not notable enough for an article, but more name recognition (right now) than a John Ruck Keene (nudge). Many readers will expect to see them here. But will they be treated as redlinks, despite the redirect? I'd like to think so.
- Sorry for your loss. Even enemies are important, and leave a void. I hope it isn't filled by someone even more interested in your livelihood. InedibleHulk (talk) 04:20, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- All deceased without an article are removed after one month, whether red link or blue link (redirect). WWGB (talk) 04:58, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- I was the original one that entered in Gabriel Rich. AST is one of the very few shows that I do watch on TV. It is interesting because of the unique challenges these guys face in their every day lives. Many of the officers have to fly planes, drive snowmobiles, or use boats to go on their appointed rounds instead of what a normal police officer goes through in a day. They also do not usually have back up anywhere remotely close to them unless they are going after a violent offender (as sadly was in this case). The villages up there only have an unarmed Public Service officer. Add in snow, wildlife and a very different lifestyle compared to the rest of the US, and it is very entertaining. As for notability, Rich has an IMDB page which is one of the things I consider when putting in "Reality" show people. He was featured in 6 shows [1] over the course of a few seasons.Sunnydoo (talk) 08:04, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- No Andrew Fincher, but not bad. I think I'll check that show out. Regular Cops is almost starting to finally get stale. It'd be nice to see some snow for a change. InedibleHulk (talk) 08:20, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
Efrem Zimbalist, Jr.
[edit]Shortening his credit on Batman: The Animated Series to simply Batman is misleading. The animated series was never referred to as just Batman. It has always been referred to by the longer title or by Batman TAS. If the entry for Zimbalist is too long, then it is Maverick that should be cut, as he was only a guest star on that series as compared to multiple seasons starring on the other shows listed.
I was a regular contributor to "Deaths In ...." but stopped in 2011 because user RAP was constantly trying to be the sole figure in deciding the credits listed for entries when actors and athletes were listed. I see little has changed here in 3 years. BurienBomber (talk) 20:10, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- Nice personal attack there. I don't decide the credits, I only get like that because its what I'm like. As I've brought up in the past, I have OCD, and get annoyed when something is altered, unless I understand its incorrect. Calling The Animated Series Batman is not misleading, as the reader is still being linked to the correct location. If you stopped editing this section because of me, you're obviously taking things personally for some reason. Rusted AutoParts 20:44, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- I removed Maverick, per the Rule of three (writing). Not a Wiki policy or guideline, but a good rule. InedibleHulk (talk) 20:53, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
There is literally no difference calling Batman: The Animated Series just Batman. The reader is still being linked to the correct location. No one is being deceived or misled into believing its another Batman. Rusted AutoParts 20:41, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- No deception, if the cursor is at least hovering over the link. But with eyes only, it looks like Batman (TV series). InedibleHulk (talk) 20:49, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- To be fair, I could say the same thing about the 1989 movie. Rusted AutoParts 20:56, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- Sure, but there, we don't really have an option. Though the Hungarian title translates to Batman: The Bat Man. InedibleHulk (talk) 21:00, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- To be fair, I could say the same thing about the 1989 movie. Rusted AutoParts 20:56, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- The "TAS" part is a bit better. InedibleHulk (talk) 20:54, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- As WWGB stated in his edit summary, putting "Batman: The Animated Series" doesn't take up that much space. It's also clear and to the point. — Wyliepedia 04:54, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
Ayers COD unconfirmed
[edit]Both comicbook.com and the Washington Post cite "complications from Parkinson's" as a report. Since User:Sunnydoo wishes to disacknowledge that, I'll ask the rest of the community. Is a reported COD reliable? Rusted AutoParts 03:07, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
- And this filters into the above discussion as well. First since this has gotten to be a huge issue, lets look at what we are talking about-[2]. That is a Death Certificate in the United States and how to fill it out. When you have a disease like Parkinson's that is an ongoing process it will be on the Death Certificate whether or not you die from it directly. If you die from a Complication (again above discussion), the Complication goes into Section 1 and the Disease into Section 2-4. In Parkinson's, dementia, and Alzheimer's, usually its an infection that kills you. So Pneumonia lets say in Section 1 and Alzheimer's in Section 2. If for some reason you would die from a disease process lets choose Cancer and not a complication (overloads electrical, hormonal or poisons system), then Cancer goes into Section 1 and the rest is left blank (unless there was another condition present).
- I for one am getting tired of all this stuff regarding CoDs and to the point where I think we should just take them out altogether. It is a lot of work that I and several others go through here translating articles and sifting the internet for sourcing for this stuff. And then we have people who just challenge every last bit of it. I am not worried about the challenges, it just gets to be a little much trying to get other stuff done at the same time. And apparently there is a cheering section that wants to shorten everything anyway so that it fits onto their mobile devices. This would be one way of doing just that.Sunnydoo (talk) 03:56, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
- People challenge content because there's always the chance it gets disputed.
- One version of events: "Sara Paxton died suddenly after suffering a stroke"
- Another version: "Sara Paxton dies of a heart attack"
Things get challenged, disputed, called into question, etc. because its how things go about. You can say I broke your lawnmower, I can say you broke it, and others can warp the story into something different entirely. So yeah, how dare I question whether or not the COD is accurate. Rusted AutoParts 04:04, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
- But that is just the thing @Rusted AutoParts:. I have no way of knowing whether or not the information that is being provided is accurate. The only one who does is the Coroner. At some point you have to take what is in a report, source, whatever you want to call it as accurate unless you want to personally verify every single death. That is why things like newspaper reputation matter. That is why you see me put in every large newspaper editor from here to Timbuktu even though I know that they are gone in 30 days. These guys are out there verifying the information so that I dont have to. If they dont do a good job, they end up on the black list sites. Since these sources arent on those sites, then I have to assume what they are telling me is accurate and without bias short of obtaining every single Death Certificate myself.Sunnydoo (talk) 04:12, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Bill Nunn's age
[edit]Had a little back-and-forth with User:Canuckian89 over whether the guy was 88 or 89. Seemingly ended when he provided a source, but now I see that source has its own problem. It calls him 88, but refers to a "detailed obituary" from Steelers.com at the end, and that says 89.
So, what are we to do? InedibleHulk (talk) 12:58, 8 May 2014 (UTC)
- Use the first press release issued by the Steelers, which says 89. — Wyliepedia 13:04, 8 May 2014 (UTC)

Food for thought on Charles Nabess, died May 6th 2014
[edit]As will be seen from this obituary posted online (http://www.obitsforlife.com/obituary/898063/Nabess-Charles.php), Charles Nabess, despite the age quoted in the source used (68), was in fact 67, having not been due to celebrate his 68th birthday until June 11th this year. Whether it is worth altering the entry to reflect this is up to those interested, as he remains and will remain a redlink. It also depends, of course, on whether the link I quote is considered a reliable source. I merely wished to flag this line of enquiry up. Best wishes. 86.112.67.18 (talk) 21:58, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
- "In the event that there is an error in the information presented, please contact the funeral home by clicking here." Does "here" just lead back to there for everyone else? That might indicate a reliability problem. Or a technical one. But if we have no conflicting source for a birthday, it wins by default, right? InedibleHulk (talk) 23:52, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
- Part of me figures clicking "Join Us" will lead to a note about requirements for editing, from which I could draw a conclusion. But I'm scared I might be reading that wrong. Someone else click it! InedibleHulk (talk) 00:00, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
I suspect a reporter or sub-editor has simply calculated "2014 – 1946 = 68" and not taken account of the months. Tributes linked to the family give age 67, which I think will be correct. WWGB (talk) 00:25, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
- So - if you believe 67 is now correct by some means of consensus, why has it become a halfway house at "67-68" (to quote how it now looks in the entry on the page)? That's a fudged result, one which I always hate to see, and might best have been left at 68 if the editor in question has that much of a problem with the reliability of the link. A bit of positivity in editing is always refreshing (and, NO, I am not logging in to make that edit myself!). 86.112.67.18 (talk) 09:59, 10 May 2014 (UTC)
- Just going for a little wiggle room. But if you'd like me to be certain about someone I just heard of, according to a website I just discovered, fine. He's 67 now. InedibleHulk (talk) 19:30, 10 May 2014 (UTC)

Prince Rupert Loewenstein Nationality Discussion
[edit]Loewenstein's nationality is a mess. He is from the House of Wittelsbach and has several famous relatives along side him. He was born after WWI when Germany took over the Kingdom of Bavaria, however, Bavaria has to be mentioned like the case of Quebec or other places in the world, Bavarians feel they are different and more special than the rest of German citizenry. Loewenstein also was born on the island of Majorca which is a territory of the Spanish. When WWII broke out, there was a difference of opinions between the Royals and Hitler in Germany. Many ended up fleeing Germany and settling elsewhere. Loewenstein's family took him to England where he settled, went to school at Oxford, became a high end banker and eventually guided the Stones to their fortune. So I am trying a Spanish-born British-German Bavarian aristocrat as his tag line, unless someone has a great objection.Sunnydoo (talk) 07:24, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- And they call the US a "melting pot". — Wyliepedia 07:33, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- And you can go here under the Bavarian Identity section [5] to see their declared designation, just in case anyone thought I was being snarky. There is a reason for it as they were recently brought into the German union would be my guess on it.Sunnydoo (talk) 07:36, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- Are we sure he held Spanish citizenship at birth and was not just a visitor/resident? WWGB (talk) 12:25, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- I pulled up the Spanish constitution and he did not qualify for citizenship unless his family was under duress from the Nazi's. Being that it was 1934 I think that is a little early for fleeing the Nazi regime. So I have removed the Spanish bit. The rest is pretty much a given as he did get British citizenship being naturalized and marrying a British lady.Sunnydoo (talk) 00:08, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
- Are we sure he held Spanish citizenship at birth and was not just a visitor/resident? WWGB (talk) 12:25, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- If it's so contentious, why not just say "Spanish-born aristocrat"? Ghmyrtle (talk) 13:02, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- Cant skip Nationality questions based on how we feel about a subject. Have to carry a balance toward neutrality to best describe a person to do them honor. We have a policy in place that works, it is the nature of all things however that you end up with things that fall outside of a system. Which is why we usually have a discussion to iron out all the wrinkles and move forward. Dual nationalities and the tri-nationalities are the ones that usually give us such fits. And it also does not help because various countries have various laws (as they are wont to do) on how one obtains citizenship. Some places if you are born there, you are a citizen. Other places, that doesnt occur. Some places you marry a citizen and you become one, other places not. Just have to research and sleuth out the details.Sunnydoo (talk) 07:56, 23 May 2014 (UTC)
