I deleted this item: "Cam Johnsen was Conan's Best Friend in High School!" as it makes little or no sense in the other works catagory.

Not Too Much Trivia

You can't limit the trivia. Some people are not boring. Limiting trivia reduces everyone to the same b-o-r-i-n-g standards. If Wiki records history then Wiki must also record the mirth of the individual. And the trivia section bears this out.

Is it really pertinent to have what time he was born? Mike H 19:24, Sep 9, 2004 (UTC)

It's an interesting trivia bit. I don't have any objection to it being there. Beginning 13:16, Sep 10, 2004 (UTC)

Mondays

I removed the line at the end of the article "Late Night does not air new episodes on Monday nights." because I don't think it has anything to do with O'Brien or the article (There is no mention of mondays besides this). - Unsigned.

Right. Well, it's not on mondays. Do you even watch the show? Ace Class Shadow 07:54, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Cum Shot

In the education paragraph it says he graduated "magna cum shot".

LOL. Sounds like a dirty, dirty pun of magna cum laude. —MESSEDROCKER (talk) 21:12, August 27, 2005 (UTC)

Audience Interaction

Anyone notice that Conan pays a lot more attention to the audience now? Most of his jokes are groan inducing and comments about the audience's (often) mixed reaction frequently each monologue. In fact... Recently he stopped a bit to berate an audience member taking pictures of him.

Conan's style is changing. That's for sure.

--> www.wildboston.com/video/576/

Yeah, actually, that is the NBC photographer, not an audience member. (They don't allow tourists to bring cameras or other recording devices into the studio with them.) Even though Conan calls him an audience member, the guy really does work for the network, and Conan has actually "berated" the same guy on the show before, always in a playful and self-referential manner, typical of Conan's style as a host.
Sorry to burst anyone's bubble. This very erroneous rumor seems to have gotten a lot of play on the internet, much like the "David-Letterman-was-promised-the-Tonight-Show" rumor that I'm having to constantly remove from other articles. Telestylo 07:09, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

Conan/Alligator YTMND fad

Should we mention something about Conan O'Brien being the star of the "conangator.ytmnd.com Conan is... AN ALLIGATOR!" fad? —MESSEDROCKER (talk) 21:10, August 27, 2005 (UTC)

Interesting animation, but I don't think a YTMND 'fad' should ever be dignified with a reference in a non-YTMND related article. Sajt

if you search 'conan is' on ytmnd.com you get over 9 pages of him. I think thats pretty significant--eli

Webpage removal

Why does the conan-obrien.net webpage link keep getting removed from this article? I'm a newcomer--is there some WP policy rule against sites like this? I seem to find several such links on other celebrities' articles. Telestylo 07:25, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

Nov 9th baby

She did indeed, at 8:27 pm. nbcumv.com/entertainment/release_detail.nbc/entertainment-20051110000000-birthnoticefroml.html Conan is back tonight (Nov. 10) with a new show. :D

Award show

I recall in one opening monologue, Conan said he hosted an award show. He cheated by holding the envelope up to the light to see the name, and resisted the urge to walk on stage and screech the winner’s name in one syllable. I forget the award’s name, but shouldn’t that be mentioned in here somewhere? —Frungi 22:52, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

No, as his little cheat didn't affect a thing. --Jeffrey O. Gustafson - Shazaam! - <*> 00:42, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
I was actually referring to the fact that he hosted an award show. I suppose it was the 2002 Emmy Awards, and until it was announced in July 2006 that he’d be hosting that year’s Emmys, the article made no mention of it. —Frungi 03:59, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

White Stripes

I saw a music video today by the White Stripes and Conan was in it. If anyone knows anything about this, maybe it could get a brief mention in the article? Under trivia maybe.

It's in there, the second-to-last graf under Late Night. BabuBhatt 00:22, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

The quote

Under the "Quotes" section, I removed the following:

Somehow, Conan O’Brien has transformed himself into the brightest star in the Late Night firmament. His comedy is the gold standard and Conan himself is not only the quickest and most inventive wit of his generation, but quite possibly the greatest host ever." — Conan O’Brien, 2000 Harvard Commencement Speech

I wouldn't put it past Conan to speak of himself in the third person, but I checked the link and could find no quote resembling this. (Perhaps this was actually taken from the introduction to his speech, but I couldn't find that, either.) So I replaced it with a quote that actually did come from his speech. 23skidoo 06:04, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

It's real. I've seen a video of the speech somewhere (his show?) before. A google search of harvard.edu turns up an article which quotes half the quote.www.thecrimson.harvard.edu/printerfriendly.aspx?ref=503580. The full text can be found in an article on E2.www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=692946 --waffle iron 06:28, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
OK, I found it on the E2 site, however the quote was presented out of context anyway. If you read the transription you'll see Conan adds that he just made that up, etc. I have no idea why it didn't show up when I accessed the site last night. But in any event, if you want to put the original quote back, go ahead, however you should include the rest of the comment in order to give the quote some context (and explain why Conan is referring to himself in third person which is what made me suspicious in the first place). 23skidoo 15:44, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Why would you have to explain it? It's obviously sarcastic and self-effacing. --PhilKao 07:27, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Yet, ironically, that's what some critics currently think of him, so it could have also been easily been Conan actually quoting someone else about himself. Ace Class Shadow 08:05, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

Ireland

My understanding is that Conan makes alot of his Irish heritage and has possibly done a show from ireland as well as going all out st. patrick's day, should there be a reference to this in the main article?

O'Brien and YTMND

I agree with the discussion started by eli. Conan is HUGE on YTMND and YTMND is huge on the Internet. It should at least be mentioned somewhere. Especially when you mention the 'conan vs bear' stuff, which is my first time of hearing about it. =\ —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.102.10.188 (talkcontribs) 08:26, 12 March 2006 (UTC)

YTMND is really not that huge. Most people would not know what the heck you are talking about. ~MDD4696 18:16, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Rumors of Conan's Succession

Just wondering, can we get a source on the bit about Carson Daily being Conan's rumored sucessor? I know I've seen Carson's name mentioned for the job, but never in a way that conclusively puts him above several other names that keep coming up. Something I missed, perhaps? Lee Bailey 22:56, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

After some looking into the matter, I've removed the remark for lack of citation. I don't think there's really a clear frontrunner yet. Lee Bailey 00:27, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Agreed. Smigel taking over is a joke and Daly would probably be happier at last call. I guess, in a way, we might have another David Letterman-type incident unless Daly steps up and saus he wants to do it. The Anti-Gnome 00:34, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

I think The String Dance should be merged into this article. It's really not important enough to have its own article. Comments? ~MDD4696 18:15, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

I agree with the merging idea, but I think merging it into Late Night with Conan O'Brien is a better idea. Having an article for such a relatively unknown dance is just useless. --IceCube 03:40, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
I also agree but I say merge it into both Conan O'Brien and Late Night with Conan O'Brien because the dance is integral parts of both. - Patman2648 01:32, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Conan becomes host

Initially O'Brien was only signed on as a writer and producer for the new show, but when no host was found during the auditions, the hosting duties were given to him.

Is this accurate? It's in the article unsourced, and think it might not be the case. --Lee Bailey 16:44, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

I'm basically positive that the line is wrong. Based on my obsessive watching of _The Simpsons_ commentary, there had been talk that they wanted Conan to produce the show, but the Simpsons show runners had been adamant about NOT releasing him from hisn contract to produce the show. However, they DID give him clearance to AUDITION for the job of host, which he did, and then based on that and the confidence of Lorne Michaels, he got the job. I'm going to remove that line from the article. Croctotheface 15:16, 23 June 2006 (UTC)

Tarja Halonen

Has Conan ever visited other countries in his show? He was in Finland in February. Viihde 20:47, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

yes, I know for sure he did a show in Canada, and I believe he is planning, or has already been to Ireland... - Adolphus79 23:05, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
He's also visited U.S. troops in Iraq, although I don't know if that was shown on Late Night. There's a map on his NBC.com page, which shows all the countries, and other cities, that he's visited. riana 04:24, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Conan has visited many countries. One week in Canada and the Finland trip (which I'm not sure how that was handled, but I know at least one show was actually dedicated to it). All his other visitings have been remotes only. Bits aired during normal NYC shows. He has done remotes where
  • He visited his 'heritage' in Ireland (visiting O'Brien's Castle, among others)
  • He went to SLC for the 2002 Winter games, but my gut tells me he might have gone to Nagano in 98. I can't say that for a fact though. Actually, now that I think about it - I think it was the Sydney Games.
  • He visited Amsterdam
  • He visited Germany including a talk show that uses many American late night show bits
  • He visited several American cities as well (Houston, Chicago for a week of shows, LA for a week of shows, frankly a number of smaller places for remotes).

Simpsons?

The simpsons section mentions Conan "signed on as a writer and producer for the Fox series The Simpsons, where he also became a supervising producer". On the simpsons, writers room members are credited as producers for episodes; I think it is misleading to mention him as a "producer" for the simpsons (or a supervising producer - where does this come from?); as far as I understand it, he was only ever a writer for the show. Any source saying otherwise? TheHYPO 05:48, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Comedy and mannerisms section

This section has gotten out of control, sorry to say. It's at the point where people are just adding favorite parts from the previous night's show. Can we reach a consensus on which lines should be kept, maybe no more than 15 or so, and try to keep it to that? Beginning 12:03, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Anything he does frequently—not just (more than) once—and is easily recognized/acknowledged. Looking at it as I write this, though, I agree. Some of it even applies more to the show than him. I'll edit accordingly. ACS (Wikipedian); Talk to the Ace. See what I've edited. 17:00, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
A good third of the entrys in this section seem to me to be in the wrong place. All the things about stuff that happens on Late Night seem to be to belong in that article like things about the sketches and things of that nature, or banter with the band. I know it's hard to distribute because O'Brien can't be separated into an article for the character and the actor like most TV characters, but it seems like many of the items are of more interest to someone looking up the show itself than looking up o'brien. (Particularly since he is really the only star of the show, so what he does on the show is pretty much the show). TheHYPO 19:39, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Fair enough. I'll see what I can do. ACS (Wikipedian); Talk to the Ace. See what I've edited. 23:37, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Done. I hope the guys working at Late Night don't mind me effectively dumping the section into that article. ACS (Wikipedian); Talk to the Ace. See what I've edited. 00:05, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

YTMND Popularity?

His more creative uses of pantomiming have caught on fire with the YTMND circles as he is one of the best recognized figures as far as fads go. Would it be worthy of note in this article his YTMND popularity? Is he even aware of it? X^D Chicobo329 20:17, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Ratings drop?

The shows ratings have however been dropping and there have been instances where NBC has done re-runs of previously aired episodes.[4]

The linked source makes no mentions of recent ratings drops, and the fact that NBC shows re-runs is hardly exceptional or noteworthy. Also, the phrasing is awkward. NBC "has done reruns"? If no one objects or offers a better source, I'll delete this bit. --Thetourist 21:11, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

I'm sure ratings aren't on constant incline. The question is, even if they are declining, how significantly are they declining... just the fact that they are declining isn't significant in itself. But as you said, the statement above isn't even proof of that much. TheHYPO 22:30, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Chip Whitley

The wikipedia page Chip Whitley redirects to Conan O'Brien. Perhaps an explanation of this would be helpful. I am hesitant to add it myself as the only explanation i can offer is that he occasionally refers to himself as Chip Whitley on Late Night. If this comment goes unanswered i just might add that one little remark somewhere on the page.

The explaination was moved to the Late Night article with the rest of Conan's "shtick" TheHYPO 05:37, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Transfer of 'Late Night' cast to 'The Tonight Show'?

Curious if he is taking his any of his cast/crew from Late Night with him to The Tonight Show in '09? As much as I like Kevin, I'd hate to see Max and the band disappear (particularly LaBamba). And Conan just wouldn't be the same without Joel Goddard! Grammaticus Repairo 02:30, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

There are plenty of considerations. Is Max feeling too old too do the gig anymore? Does the band want to relocate to LA? (Is the show going to move to LA?) What are everyone's contracts. I would certainly thing that if MW7 wanted to do it and Conan wanted them, they would be the band. I expect the show to completely reinvent just as it did when Leno took over from Carson, and just as Late Night did when Conan took over. TheHYPO 04:36, 19 September 2006 (UTC)

But Conan's show/combination is proven and it would be stupid to change it. Comparing this switch to other shows is dumb. Others have started their careers by taking a show, not by switching like Conan is doing (if I remember correctly).

Letterman reinvented his show at least to a degree when he moved, and it was within NYC. He's about as 'lean' a change as you can get. Then you have someone like Craig Kilborn who left ComCent (Daily Show) for CBS and basically became a counter-Conan type show, with only a bit of his old show schtick. Noone has announced if the Tonight show is going to goto LA, but I believe the 'given' reason that it has been there for so long is because it's Hollywood and Tonight is expected to have the big celebrity guests, which are easiest to come by in Hollywood. Secondly, as a counter to Letterman who is in NYC, they don't want Tonight to also be in NYC such that the same celebs will be on both shows night after night. So assuming they move to Cali, as I already said, what are you going to do? force the band members to move to LA? If they don't want to live in LA, you pretty much have to get a new band. I expect the show to bring some of its old bits, and some new stuff. (I don't expect a massive change from monologue>desk bit>possibly having the TV over his shoulder>actual items, clutch cargo etc., but I could easily see a new theme song, totally new set structure and layout, maybe some different idiosyncracies than on the current show. facebook fanclubs

I don't see any reason for a facebook fanclub to be on a biography page. Not only that but there is constant defacing of the fanclub listing. I removed it entirely.

How Irish?

Exactly how Irish is he? I know he makes a big deal of it, but all it says in the article is that he is from a Irish American family. SteveLamacq43 22:59, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Funniest Man Alive

Hornymanatee.com

Can we get some sources or something on the "required by law" bit attached to it? I've been searching and I can't find any such law mentioned anywhere—the only mention of it I did find suggested that Conan was joking—and, frankly, I can't imagine any such law ever being passed or being considered constitutional. Kakaze 08:37, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Uh... this is NBC policy. It is not 'required by law'. The next time you watch 'Late Night', listen to what he says.

Wouldn't this be better off in the Late Night article? I know it has been added and then removed from it, but it would make more sense to put it there than here since it's a feature of the show and not of Conan himself. DiscordantNoteCntrbtns 04:41, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
It was most definitely not "required by law." It was a move by NBC to make sure that there would be absolutely no possibility of a defamation lawsuit.67.184.178.2 13:20, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Domain Name

On the "trivia" section of the article, a statement cliams that NBC purchased www.hornymanatee.com for $159. Yet a couple sentences later, the same paragraph says that NBC purchased it for $125. Could we fact-check this, because there is a contradiction here. Thanks. Arius Maximus 00:28, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Question

Does Joel Goddard have his own article here at Wikipedia. And what is the name of the guy on Conan who proceeds to run up the stairwell and to loudly profess that there is no reason to live, and then proceeds to tragically kill himself by kayaking down a steeply hazardous snowy mountain. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Berniethomas68 05:58, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Trivia

I've dumped a few of the trivial mentions in this article. wikipedia is anti-trivia. Some other "triviaish" facts in this article (eg: the emmys, Andy Barker, Labels for jars), I personally feel are more significant, and ought to be kept, but they really need to be incorporated into the article and not have single-sentance-paragraphs for each item, which basically makes a trivia list. Related info needs to be grouped better. TheHYPO 05:18, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

I don't see the why the Controversy section on this article is even here. It should go under/moved to the Late Night with Conan O'Brien article. Its not like he "directly" made the jokes in the first place. It only took place on his show, and it wasn't even directly his act. South Park

I remember Conan showing the clip and commenting that he would have done the voice if Parker and Stone had asked him. But I'm fairly sure that it was not an interview with the two. Also, IMDB doesn't list the writing team appearing on Late Night together -- just separately in 1998, 1999 and 2004.

Was alarm on show an indication of the stalker?

Recently an alarm went off during a taping of the show. Conan said he had never heard the sound before. Late in the show a voice came on the PA and said the situation was resolved. Did that alarm sound because the stalker was in the building? Does anyone know what date the alarm sounded? --Howdybob (talk) 09:47, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

It was a false fire alarm. Nothing to do with any stalker TheHYPO (talk) 01:50, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Conan's political affiliation

12.173.150.195 (talk) 05:38, 19 March 2008 (UTC)I'm almost certain Conan claimed (in conversation with one of his guests during the writer's strike) that he is a Republican. However, the Wikipedia article states he supports the Democratic party. Could someone please clarify? I'm sorry I can't remember more (like who the guest was or anything... I think he had the beard if that helps). I only remember it because it surprised me a lot that such a popular TV non-partisan entertainer would mention (almost, as if, in passing) his party affiliation on air.

I don't know. He's from the very liberal Massachusetts and He's Catholic (Catholics could go either way when it comes to politics). We shouldn't guess, though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.46.26.135 (talk) 02:04, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

Writer mention in openning paragraph

I found it odd that the openning paragraph has no mention of him as a television writer. I mean, he was a writer for several years, and was even a writer on The Simpsons, which is very notable. Sure, this IS mentioned in the body of the article, but a mention in the openning paragraph would tell people from the very beginning that he was more than a late night talk show host. See above (and below). It was a gag with one of the first guests on the new show. If there is a reliable source discussing it, especially in terms of how notable it is (which is extremely unlikely), it might be add-able. DP76764 (Talk) 22:21, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks, I figured there must have been much more to it since many people are calling him that. I've only seen it used in 2 or 3 recent articles (proper), but for the most part in the comments after those and other (recent) articles. None of which noting the origin, just using it as they would use a name, so I guess that isn't the type of sources required here. LittleMatchGirl (talk) 12:50, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Coco is popping up as his nickname everywhere now with the whole Conan/Leno/NBC "thing". There's even an imwithcoco.com website and an I'm With Coco Facebook page with almost 30,000 fans. It's pretty safe to say it's going to stick as a nickname at this point. I vote for putting it (back) in. Caben42 (talk) 22:12, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
Are we now insisting on sources discussing a commonly used nickname, rather than just, you know, USING it? That's a pretty arbitrary and ridiculous standard, DP. Are there articles discussing Thomas Hanks' use of the nickname "Tom" that you can point to? Let's at least PRETEND to be consistent, k? --John Kenneth Fisher (talk) 01:37, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
There are plenty more articles out there that use the term "Coco", but DP, can they just use "Coco" or do they have to explain it, to? Also ditto to Fishers rational comment.LittleMatchGirl (talk) 15:24, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Actually, Fisher's example is not a very good one. "Tom" is an extremely common nickname for "Thomas" and is known by pretty much everyone in the Western world (in fact, it's so common, it's in a dictionary). "CoCo" is NOT a common nickname for anyone at all. Apples and oranges. That being said, if someone can find a source with a statement as simple as "Conan, or CoCo as he's been nicknamed, etc etc", that should be adequate for inclusion. DP76764 (Talk) 16:39, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Technically it is a common nickname, but unfortunately for the argument, it is a nickname for a few female names ( [1]) So I stand corrected in my agreement. Anyway, here are some links that refer to it being his nickname: [2] , [3], [4] , [5] , [6] , [7] . LittleMatchGirl (talk) 22:46, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
So now the problem is that it's not a nickname ENOUGH people have? Should we remove "Fatty" from the Roscoe Arbuckle article? First it was too new, then time passed. Then it wasn't notable enough, but then it became incredibly noted around the web and elsewhere. Then the problem was that there weren't articles discussing it as his nickname, but then there were. Then the issue is that not enough people BESIDES Conan are called this, but you found a bunch, and Now it's that, yeah, but those are all girls? In my country we call that "moving the goalposts." If you don't think it's appropriate, fine, say so and we discuss, but don't be disingenuous about it. --John Kenneth Fisher (talk) 02:26, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Good luck with keeping it in. I won't expressly remove it, but other editors may feel it's not appropriate. You may need to request WP:CONSENSUS to get it to stick. For further reading, I would recommend WP:BLP; adding material to articles about people can be tricky and it's better to err on the side of caution. DP76764 (Talk) 04:06, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
I've edited the line so that it reads "He has been given the nickname 'Coco' by some guests and fans, especially within Internet culture." Maybe this will be a better compromise for the nickname -- it clarifies that it's not a personal nickname, but notes that it is indeed used. Perhaps more importantly, it more accurately reflects the sources, which stress its Internet-based usage. Does this work better for everyone? It should satisfy both camps, I think. the funny thing is, is you can go to many articles here and find things have been stated as fact and years have gone by and not a peep from anyone complaining that it isn't referenced. And here, someone puts up a nickname that is commonly being used and you gets slapped on the wrist. The reason I came here in the first place was because I was seeing it everywhere and was curious as to where it came from.LittleMatchGirl (talk) 01:56, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

He also said that he doesn't like the nickname Coco. On another note, this article is missing some information, such as the following. Conan appeals to the young and stupid. His jokes are idiotic and he just fools around a lot, which is not funny to someone with intellect and education. Personally, I'm glad he is off the air. He was truly awful. Him saying "will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting" is the best joke he has ever delivered, after he himself already ruined The Tonight Show with his crap! The Cory Booker feud was publicity, but its conclusion was also the occasion of a joint Conan/NBC donation of $100,000 to Newark Now. With the deletion of that section, that donation is now completely unmentioned, and no donation other than the minor political one is mentioned in the entire article.

We also have incidental things that rarely make the news, such as Conan buying pizza for the rally participants, paying the salaries for his non-union staff during the writers' strike, etc. All the Conan rallys had collections for Haiti. http://www.tmz.com/2010/01/18/live-conan-obrien-rally-protest-the-tonight-show-im-with-coco-nbc-jeff-zucker-supporters-facebook

Reliable source or not, you could see an NBC recording on YouTube which showed that he did in fact destroy the set. Comparing Conan's Twitter followers against Leno's is unfairly biased in light of their recent conflict as it's one of the limited ways Conan's fans can have access to him, as opposed to Leno who has a show every weeknight. In order to illustrate the relative size of Conan's Twitter following, perhaps Leno's numbers should be replaced with another talk show host's, or, better yet, another celebrity's altogether. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.33.115.207 (talk) 07:47, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

I don't think another celebrity should "replace" Leno there, since it is completely the point to directly compare the two. I don't know that Leno's following is so much smaller because he's on TV, as much as it is that he's less popular, and his viewership is older, and perhaps a few other reasons. Maybe someone else's following should be added for the sake of greater comparison, though. Does Letterman have a Twitter? Or Craig Ferguson? --Muboshgu (talk) 13:36, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

If Mr. O'Brien was subjected to a string of "serious" incidents from a number of people, it would be a signficant matter. But one person, admittedly a seeker of 15-minutes worth of fame and with clear display of unstable behavior and to go to such detailed recounting, I believe, is very excessive and totally unwarranted for an ecyclpedic Wikipedia article. I suggest a very brief paragraph of say 4-5 lines about the incident, a mild incident at best and leave it at that. werldwayd (talk) 22:26, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

Article for TBS show

Is it too early to create an article for Conan's new show on TBS? It has been announced, and there is enough information to warrant such an article. What shall it be called? I nominate it to be called Conan O'Brien TBS Show until a title is announced. Milchama (talk) 00:38, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Conan's Early Years

Conan was born in 2507 b.c. in a small town called. Ishikawa, Japan. He sooned rose through the ranks of his father's Butter Churning factory and became a well known American even though the U.S. wouldn't be created by him for another 2,000 years. He worked solo on many churning projects. But, soon he wanted more, so, one day he met Ron Jeremy in a dark alley. So, knowing that he was a trustworthy man they started there own churning emporium. There, they churned and churned until there butter sticks were beat red. Then they met a young man known to his people as Collin Sass, a.k.a. THUGNASTY. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.39.36.131 (talk) 16:23, 6 May 2010 (UTC)

Currently the link is not correct/not working as intended because of a typo. Additionally, I recommend that the link point to the general category "Wraparound_segment" rather than the sub-heading under a particular Simpson's episode since that would be more appropriate to defining and explaining the term (since it is actually used in a general context, and is not specific to that particular tv episode). -- Jdevola (talk) 19:56, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Pale Force

The page says that Conan visited County Kerry, Ireland for an episode of Late Night, but he actually visited County Limerick and County Clare. The Cliffs of Moher are in County Clare, and at the beginning of the segment for the show he mentions "I'm in County Limerick" and it appears (although I have not confirmed this for sure) that he is in Adare Village, which is indeed in County Limerick. Here is the clip from the Late Show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=-ajbDybJjiM#t=68s

In my opinion it should be made clear that Conan only jokingly protested his portrayal. It was clearly just in jest. 134.147.64.48 (talk) 19:04, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

Is it consensus that his work on SNL is not noteworthy in the infobox? I understand there is limited space, and that majority of the substance should be reflected on the main article. Conan Creates a LinkedIn

On September 27, 2013, Conan (teamcoco channel) uploaded this video titled "Conan O'Brien Will Conquer LinkedIn" on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cinb5tcRYXw

In it, he links to his newly created LinkedIn: http://linkedin.com/in/conanobrien

There are some obvious jokes on the page, but also one bit of information that, assuming its validity and not a joke that's going over my head, could be considered for the page.

In Background > Experience he writes: "Lighting Designer [at] Applebees International [for] March 1981 – May 1993 (12 years 3 months)."

This overlaps with his other jobs (a month while the host of Late Night and his work with both Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons); given that, and the longevity of the employment, I assume I'm missing an obvious joke. If so, at least this post can act as a reminder that the page could hold some valuable information in the future.

Article is inaccurate

Hi, I'm concerned that this article has been reverted to an earlier version. A lot of the information here is not up to date. For example, the picture that used to be here was from 2019 but this one is from 2015. O'Brien has also been hosting for about 27 or 28 years not 25, that's from a couple of years ago. There's no mention of his new HBO max show that is coming up or that he is ending his current talk show. His occupations also do not list podcaster. All the actors and comedians who have claimed him as an influence such as Seth Meyers and John Krasinski are missing. The entire influences section seems stripped down. The list of influences used to be much higher. On a whole this entire article seems to have been reverted to a version from a a few years ago.

138.88.227.232 (talk) 18:27, 7 April 2021 (UTC)

The list of occupations isn't supposed to include everything he's ever done. It's supposed to highlight the things he's most famous for. -Jason A. Quest (talk) 02:39, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
But what about everything else? This article clearly has been stripped down. What about the new information? What about the influences, which used to be more extensive? And the picture is out of date. The years he has been hosting is also incorrect. He'll be coming on 28 years when he ends his show in June not 25. --138.88.227.232 (talk) 14:45, 8 April 2021 (UTC)

Weird Formatting

I was looking at this article specifically after a conversation with my father because we were watching Sharktopus vs Pteracuda. I was looking to see Conan O'Brien was credited for his role on his Wiki and couldn't see it at first. I realized this is because, for some reason, the information is lined up wrong and instead of being put under the movie section of the list, the title is put under the year section, making it in between 2014 and 15 instead of listed as happening in 2015. The movie was released in 2015 and should, hopefully, be an easy fix.

There are a couple of sources such as facebook and youtube used that are typically unreliable but are OK for what they're used for here. The same goes for the HuffPost cites.

  • Suggest using {{Non-free use rationale}} in the FUR for File:TheDenialTwistVideo.jpg, but more importantly I don't think this meets fair use. It's not minimal -- it's used in three different articles for the same reason, and one of the other two would be a more likely candidate as the best choice. In addition, I don't think the reader gains anything from the image that they could not from text, particularly since the quality is poor.
  • What makes the following reliable sources?
    • filfre.net
    • everything2.com
    • revision3.com
    • nypost.com -- listed on WP:RS/PS as a generally unreliable source
    • FN 188 cites ""John Mulaney wanted to be like Conan O'Brien". YouTube. Archived from the original on February 12, 2020." Both the link and the archive link are broken. Dead links aren't a problem for GA, but what makes this a reliable source?
    • araratnews.am
    • soompi.com -- I can't tell if this is a news report or a user-generated article. I also see they cite this site, though I can't tell if that's reliable either.
  • "and a famous remote found Conan visit a historic, Civil War-era baseball league": what's a remote? I'm guessing it means something shot on site, not in the studio? If so a link would help; I suspect it's TV jargon. And it looks like it should be "visiting"?
  • "Later, USA Network handed out a 90-minute, cast-contingent pilot order to the medical-themed Operating Instructions from O'Brien's production banner" again sounds like TV jargon; I have only a vague idea what this means.
  • "He also helped open the Cor Unum meal center in 2006": since this is a place, not just an organization, suggest giving the location.
  • The "Filmography" section is mostly uncited.

I made a couple of minor copyedits, but there wasn't much to do -- the article is in excellent shape. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 16:28, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

I'll be addressing these bullet points the next few days. -- LuK3 (Talk) 16:43, 2 September 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the follow-up comments Mike Christie. I believe I addressed everything, please let me know if I missed anything. -- LuK3 (Talk) 12:26, 6 September 2022 (UTC)

All the above issues are fixed. I see quite a bit of new material has been added; looking through again:

  • "Sources familiar with the situation that O'Brien was unhappy and disappointed with NBC's plan": missing a verb?
  • "This spontaneity has translated to his remotes where he is put in novel and open-ended environments becoming some of his best-received work, such as a "Civil War-era baseball" remote during Late Night and his international Conan Without Borders shows." A bit clumsily phrased. How about "This spontaneity is also apparent in remotes in which he is put in novel and open-ended environments. Some of these, such as a "Civil War-era baseball" remote during Late Night and his international Conan Without Borders shows, are among his best-received work."

Spotchecking a couple:

  • FN 62 and 126 cite the "spontaneity" sentence above; verified.
  • FN 84 cites "By January 2010, O'Brien's ratings for The Tonight Show were much lower than they had been when the show was hosted by Jay Leno": source says "Leno's late-night replacement, Conan O'Brien, has not performed well either", which doesn't really justify "much" lower.
  • FN 151 cites "This sale included all other Team Coco podcasts including Inside Conan and Parks and Recollection, as well as the development of a comedy channel for SiriusXM radio service". Verified.

Remotes

Incredible that an editor of this page doesn't even know what Conan O'Brien Remotes are. Why are they editing this page if they aren't even slightly familiar with the subject? Remotes are the most famous part of his show. Deluzejaylewis (talk) 05:03, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

Typo in intro, don't have permission to edit

The last sentence of the introductory paragraph of the article says "As of 2018 have he been hosting the podcast series Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend." Obviously, this grammar is atrocious and needs to be fixed. However, the page is semi-protected so someone with the permission to do so will need to undertake this daunting task, and truly become the friend that Conan O'Brien needed this whole time. Thank you. Deluzejaylewis (talk) 05:00, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

This has been fixed. -- LuK3 (Talk) 18:18, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
