Chenopodiaceae - Amaranthaceae
[edit]In the APG II system, of 2003 (unchanged from the APG system, of 1998), the family Amaranthaceae is placed in the order Caryophyllales. It includes the plants formerly treated as the family Chenopodiaceae. The name for the former family Chenopodiaceae has become a nom. cons. JoJan 08:43, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
Saponins and the use as food
[edit]I think there should be some information in the article regarding saponins. With quinoa (a relative of this plant), the seeds must be washed before use to remove the saponins. Saponins are also used as soap. According to http://www.ibiblio.org/pfaf/cgi-bin/arr_html?Chenopodium+album native Americans used saponins (likely from this plant) to stun fish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.2.73.157 (talk) 07:25, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Use as walking stick?
[edit]This reference is highly dubious, as Chenopodium album is an herbaceous annual species. There is absolutely no woody material whatsoever left behind by its growth cycle to be used as a walking stick. 67.142.172.27 (talk) 03:03, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- I tried to find a good reference for this but couldn't so I removed it.Glorioussandwich (talk) 05:57, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
That reference is fine. It indicates quite clearly that this plant was used as a walking stick in the past, which is all we need. The character 藜 is undeniably chenopodium album[1] [2] 74.102.173.9 (talk) 22:48, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Hello @Blindlynx: What is WP:UNDUE about this? — Invasive Spices (talk) 18:48, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
Chenopodium (album var.) missouriense
[edit]I created redirects to this article from Chenopodium missouriense, Chenopodium album missouriense, and Chenopodium album var. missouriense. C. missouriense has been demoted to subspecies status and is now considered to be a synonym of Chenopodium album var. missouriense. References: POWO; Alabama Plant Atlas; FSUS.
I see that C. album var. missouriense is not mentioned in this article. It may be worth giving it a passing mention or a section of its own. The taxonomy section might do well to have an update and to include info on the differences between the various accepted infraspecies, such as physical characteristics and geographical differences. I don't really have the time or energy to do that right now, but I thought it might be worth mentioning on the talk page. Delvethedragon (talk) 00:59, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Delvethedragon: Hi! Thanks for the redirects. I just reviewed and approved them. I totally get not having the energy to add information to the quality/depth you want, I do that all the time. In the future it'd be really helpful to have some brief mention of the redirect term on the target page just to speed up review time though so reviewers don't have to look it up. WP:RPLA covers something similar, but I don't think bolding every redirect mention is necessary personally. Anyway! Thanks for the work! :) originalmesstalk 06:31, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- Appreciate it. I will try to keep this in mind when creating redirects in the future. Delvethedragon (talk) 09:51, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
