Notability

[edit]

Does this character pass the GNG? I'm counting two sources that mention her name in the title, and my first look shows the majority of the sources to be primary source, followed by reviews of the Sonic games with brief Blaze mentions. In this case, she would seem as notable as Green Hill Zone. Is there a reason why this is split out from the characters list? czar  02:08, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Mentioning her name in the title isn't necessary; we have plenty of video game character articles with no such credentials. The sources do, however, give actual, often detailed, opinions of her, unlike those in the version of this article that was merged back in 2010. Most of the sources indeed are primary, but plenty aren't. Would you be more comfortable if I expanded the Reception section with quotes or added secondary sources elsewhere in the article that aren't reception? Tezero (talk) 02:17, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I was just asking for curiosity—I'm not going to be the one to bring this to AfD. However, from my experience at AfD, this article would have some trouble on the "significant coverage" front due to very thin mentions in the lists and articles currently sourced. I'm not that familiar with any special criteria for fictional characters, but the lack of source articles dedicated specifically to the character indicates something about her notability. czar  04:11, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I can probably do more in-depth mentions; I've seen some but they didn't constitute real reception—a complaint I'm rather gun-shy toward—so I left them out. Tezero (talk) 04:16, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Talk:List of Sonic the Hedgehog video game characters#Notability for a notability discussion that pertains to this article and its series czar  04:15, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'll take this review. I mainly focus on copy editing issues too. I'll leave some initial comments within 48 hours if that's alright. Thanks! Jaguar 20:37, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Jaguar: are you still planning on finishing? It's 4/20 and, heh, I think it'd be neat to get this article in particular promoted today if at all possible. Tezero (talk) 20:14, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry for the long delay @Tezero:, I've had a busy holiday and my 420 has just finished (still recovering by the way!). Time zones are a pain. I'll start the review right away. Jaguar 21:14, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Initial comments

[edit]

Lead

[edit]
  • Everything checks out here - the lead complies per WP:LEAD and the GA criteria. I also see no copy editing problems here.

Design and characteristics

[edit]
  • "While crafting the 2005 Nintendo DS game Sonic Rush" - would 'developing' be a better word to describe the development/making of Sonic Rush?
  • I switched it to "creating". "Developing" would come off as repetitive wording, I think; this is why I don't like WP:VG's trend of saying "X character/game has received a positive reception." Tezero (talk) 21:54, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Blaze comes from a world outside the Sonic the Hedgehog series' main one" - please clarify, does Blaze come from a different world/dimension from the main Sonic the Hedgehog series? If so would Blaze comes from a world [dimension] outside the main Sonic the Hedgehog series?

Appearances

[edit]
  • "...but Sonic insists on helping, so she fights and defeats Sonic, while Eggman discreetly kidnaps Cream" - why did she fight and defeat Sonic if he insisted on helping her?
  • "Blaze, along with numerous other characters, is turned into a statue by the antagonistic Time Eater; when he saves her, she expresses regret at needing his help but thanks him anyway" - who saves Blaze? Presumably Sonic, but it doesn't say?

On hold

[edit]

From a copy editing point of view, there are very little prose problems with this article as much of it is under her appearances in the video games. I couldn't find many problems with the prose as they are mostly plot details, but other than that, all references are in check, the lead complies per the GA criteria and the Reception section is looking good. I'll put this on hold for the compulsory seven days but I know that these points will be addressed quickly! Thank you and sorry for the delay. Jaguar 21:40, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, heh, @Jaguar: I need to study for an upcoming test at the moment but I'll return before long. Tezero (talk) 21:57, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Close - promoted

[edit]

Thanks for addressing those points so quickly (and sorry for my long delay reviewing this). This article didn't have many problems so there weren't many points to make. Every section now complies per the GA criteria, so I'll promote this to GA. Personally I don't know much about Blaze as I've only played the older Sonic games. I don't know what the time is where you are, so I hope you have a good time today for 420! Jaguar 21:58, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
