Notes
[edit]Not sure I got the formatting right on the rating box, but here goes. The biography section seems fairly short but reasonable, the credits listed are a bit sketchy, and there's no real discussion of the subject's impact on the culture. Surely one of the most famous of the "Disney Legends" should have plenty of material to be discussed and cited. Karen | Talk | contribs 00:26, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Photo
[edit]Would it be possible to have a more recent photo than the mid-50's one? AnonMoos 00:21, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
Sedaka
[edit]A quick search fails to turn up and substantiation for the claim that Neil Sedaka's song "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen" had any connection to Annette, who would have been 19 years old that year. I see that there's a stub for the song that makes the same claim. Given her age, the claim seems unlikely enough that it really should either have a citation or be removed. Thanks! --Karen | Talk | contribs 06:28, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
Not a forum
[edit]I would just like to remind everyone that a talk page is not a forum. This isn't a fanclub, this isn't a chat room, this isn't a guestbook. Ideas and comments on the article are welcome, but personal comments about the subject of the biography should be kept to a minimum. --Ericdn (talk) 03:37, 14 March 2009 (UTC)
Explain
[edit]"to combat rumors that her impaired carriage was the result of alcoholism"
[edit]I can't trace if this is a spelling error or a little used statement. If it is a statement it should have references to explain it.
- No spelling mistake — "rumors" is a US spelling. Kelisi (talk) 01:46, 8 October 2012 (UTC)
Wasn't she popular for her bust?
[edit]Is there a polite way to say this within the article? TCO (talk) 10:32, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
- Inappropriate here perhaps, but to answer your question, no, she was popular because of her lovely personality, which shone through her eyes. --Sid the Obscure (talk) 07:14, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
- During her time as a Mouseketeer, that might have been true, but certainly her assets were well noted by the teenaged male population, especially during the "Beach Blanket" era. I speak from experience here.----
- She was, in part. here's a reference: [1]. Its not impolite, its just the truth. she was the gateway to romance and sexuality for a whole generation of baby boomer males. its well written about. it doesnt have to be mentioned in a rude way, but it does belong in the article.50.193.19.66 (talk) 22:24, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
- You think TMZ is a reliable source? Really? Boomer boys -- I was one of them -- developed crushes on Ms. Funicello when she was a Mouseketeer ... age 13-14. Her success Beach Blanket success was only because of that connection already made. -- 70.109.46.5 (talk) 05:47, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
- This kind of thing could go into a "media referances" section. There was a mention about her figure in the movie "Grease". Prior to the song "Summer Love" the men were questioning about the figure of the girl and one asked if she was "as big as Annette" to which another replied "no one's as big as Annette". But then someone would demand conformance with wikipedia policy that there would need to be a published third source of proof that the "Annette" mentioned in "Grease" is Annette Funicello.

- I'm pretty sure her bust size was a contributor to her popularity, just as much as her personality. I always like to use this to contradict people who make scathing accusations against contemporary Disney starlets. I still remember a Mad Magazine article that spoofed Happy Days (TV series), which contained a panel with Fonzie and Richie watching Annette on The Mickey Mouse Club, making a remark about her bra size being bigger than her mouse ears. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 18:29, 4 August 2014 (UTC)
About this - Annette makes a remark in her biography - just rereading to find out exactly where, and I will come back to this page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.234.68.109 (talk) 09:20, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
Found the part! It's in her biography, pp 114-115.
"For someone as reserved as I was, it wasn't always easy to pick up a magazine and read references to my newly blossoming figure. Mr Disney preferred that I didn't discuss my measurements, and I was happy to oblige him. It was certainly nice to be noticed for having a good figure, but sometimes the amount of attention mine received seemed - pardon me - out of proportion. Even today when people, men especially, attribute my popularity as a Mouseketeer to my developing bustline, I often feel as if I should point out that I was still fairly flat-chested then, and there were other girl Mouseketeers as "curvaceous," and I use that term loosely, as I was. But of course, I don't." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.234.68.109 (talk) 22:00, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
BUENA VISTA Records
[edit]The name of the record company is BUENA VISTA RECORDS _not_ VISTA. It's clearly stated on the LP jackets, the record labels, and if you google it, you will easily find the BUENAVISTARECORDS.GO.COM page, and given the paucity of acts currently on the label, typing FUNICELLO in the search box redirects to the Disney website where she's indexed in the numerous DVDs still in print.
W5 appearance
[edit]There is nothing in the article about Annette Funicello's recent (2012-10-06) appearance on the Canadian public affairs programme W5 (it was billed as a worldwide exclusive). It was her first appearance on television in years. She can no longer walk or speak, and her husband Glen Holt is still hoping for something that might improve her condition, having already tried just about everything. Peanuts reference?
[edit]Someone needs to comb the Peanuts comic-strip archives for this one. I remember seeing one of those characters (Linus?) saying "Annette Funicello has grown up!".
Just after I wrote the above, I located this on the Los Angeles Times website in the obituary (refers to Annette Funicello's 1st wedding, in 1965):
"On the morning of the wedding, Charles Schulz's 'Peanuts" cartoon strip marked the occasion by showing Snoopy howling, 'I can't stand it! This is terrible! How depressing ... ANNETTE FUNICELLO HAS GROWN UP!'"
I won't take it on myself to incorporate this into this Wikipedia article, but whoever does so needs to credit it appropriately. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.63.16.20 (talk) 19:06, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
Here it is! http://www.gocomics.com/peanuts/1965/01/09 If anyone knows how to put it in the article and cite it, that would be cool :)
Controversy
[edit]Perhaps now is inappropriate, but in a year or so someone should add that she was a spokesperson for the Florida citrus growers (orange growers) as an adult and that also I believe she made several controversial comments about gays (sorry my memory fails me for the specifics). She was quite religious (according to media accounts) and intolerant. Since this did make the papers at the time 80's ? 90's ? it should be included here. It was at the time, part of a national debate. (Think it was gays, not 100% sure-- some social issue, anyway)173.189.72.98 (talk) 03:22, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
- I think you're thinking of Anita Bryant. InedibleHulk (talk) 10:51, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
- Yes it was Anita Bryant and it was the 1970s. I realize this is a talk page, but if this post is going to remain here indefinitely, we need to be explicitly clear that this was NOT Annette Funicello. --- Crakkerjakk (talk) 16:04, 9 April 2013 (UTC)
- Indeed it is inappropriate to make such absurd claims about something you remember and understand so poorly. And if it had been true, any time would have been appropriate to add it. -- 70.109.46.5 (talk) 05:50, 6 July 2013 (UTC)
Fandom and 'cult'
[edit]I was reading this article through, and nowhere does it mention how BIG a phenomenon she was.
http://adoring-annette.tumblr.com/post/16814094871/disney-starlets-paper-dolls-featuring-annette
There were paper dolls of her, you could buy novels and comics and books and colouring books. I thought the paper doll pics were pretty cool, because she was marketed with Snow White, Cinderella and Alice! It was like she was a Disney character her self, Disney royalty. She was a real Disney icon, almost as much as the classic Disney characters. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.234.68.109 (talk) 09:35, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

Teen Beach Movie dedication
[edit]I understand the reason for the citation tag on her memorial in the opening of the 2013 Disney Channel TV-Movie Teen Beach Movie, but if you check the talk page there, that issue was already discussed. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 12:52, 4 January 2018 (UTC)
